The Best Smoothing Undergarments

Greetings, friends! I have a Saturday post for you this week because I want to tell you about the best smoothing undergarments, AND they are on sale this weekend!

I recently shared a white t-shirt review that was very well received, but the most popular follow-up question had nothing to do with t-shirts. Instead, this was the question landed in my inbox over: “What bra are you wearing under that t-shirt???”

It’s a very good question! You can be wearing the best fitting clothes, but without the proper undergarments, you will still look lumpy and frumpy.

That’s why I was so excited to try the new Soma Vanishing 360 collection.

Now you can say good-bye to visible panty lines, back fat, and the double boob. Yes, that’s a technical term.

I had all but given up on finding a bra that didn’t show through my t-shirts or highlight that pesky back fat. I just figured, that’s the way it is.

But you can see from the before/after pictures below that it is indeed possible to find a bra that eliminates both of those issues.

The bra on the left is my go-to, and you can clearly see the strap and adjustment hardware through my t-shirt.

The bra on the right is the new Soma Vanishing 360 Perfect Coverage Bra in the Adobe Rose color, and it’s almost like I’m not even wearing a bra at all! (But trust me, there is no way I’m taking these girls out without a bra.)

How does Soma work this magic?

The bras in the Vanishing 360 collection all have seamless edges that allow the fabric to sit flush against your skin.

Then the back straps are cut wider than the traditional bra, so they cover up and smooth over that area on the back that tends to “get caught” in normal bras and create those unsightly lumps and bumps.

To top it off, the straps adjust in the front, so there is no hardware to show through in the back of your shirt.

And then in addition to all that, the new Vanishing 360 bras also feature an ultra-thin neckline to smooth the front — no more double boob!

That’s what sets the Vanishing 360 apart from the other bras in the Vanishing collection.

While I’ve had bras I like over the years, I’ve never found one that does it all… until now.

Soma also has a 60-day risk-free bra guarantee.

That’s right. You can wear it, wash it, put it to the test for up to 60 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can return it, no questions asked. Plus, shipping and returns are always free on full-price bras.

But they didn’t stop there. Soma also has a solution for the dreaded VPL (visible panty lines.)

Their Vanishing edge panties are designed to completely disappear under clothing, and stay exactly where they should.

I have to say, I am duly impressed. I didn’t know such a unicorn existed.

Check out these before and after pictures…

I’m wearing the Vanishing 360 Hipster with a medium rise and full back coverage.

Granted, it’s not the most enviable rear view, but it’s as good as it is going to get! At the very least, I can make it as smooth as possible with the right underwear.

Each pair of Vanishing 360 panties is seamless, so they truly cannot be seen even under leggings and yoga pants.

I have never found a non-thong panty that I can confidently wear under yoga pants until this one.

But what really sets them apart from any other that I’ve tried is the patented silicone strips along the leg opening, which keeps them from riding up throughout the day. They really do stay put.

Plus the silky fabric is breathable and suuper thin and soft against the skin, and the solid colors options are even moisture-wicking, which makes them perfect for high intensity workouts, or really anything your day might throw at you.

Now is a great time to refresh your undergarments because Soma is running their Friends & Family Sale, where you can save 25% off your entire purchase with code 70217.

If you’ve been looking for the best smoothing undergarments, your search is over! The Soma Vanishing 360 collection truly does it all.

  1. Thank you for posting these items.  It’s always hard to know what works best, so it is nice to have a recommendation.  I just ordered a pair of the vanishing edge panties, because I’m not fond of wearing thongs.

  2. I had a bra fitting a week or so ago at Soma. I was due for one anyway and was encouraged to get one as part of my Adore Your Wardrobe class. The last couple of fittings were at Nordstrom, so I thought I’d try Soma for a change. Oh my gosh, I didn’t know bras could be so comfortable! No more red marks where my band goes! I probably tried on a dozen bras before we found the winner, but two sales associates worked with me and were very patient. I wore one home (Vanishing Edge Full Coverage) and then promptly ordered more online. I also bought more of the Vanishing Edge panties. I like the modern briefs. I can’t recommend Soma enough!

  3. I’ve been wearing the Soma Vanishing Edge Microfiber High Leg Brief for a couple of years. They really do eliminate VPL. And so comfortable – never feel like I need to tug on them or anything. Pricey, but worth watching for them on sale.

  4. So glad you posted this today, as I had been researching all over for underwear I could wear with leggings to workout. I am not a thong person because I have to wear a panty liner due to bladder issues (I know, TMI) but I workout 3 times a week at the gym and had a pair from Walmart that were no shows, no seams that worked great but they stopped carrying them and I googled and looked on Amazon for years. Finally, Soma to the rescue! I’ve been shopping there for years and they had a few styles that were okay for pants but not for leggings, until the Vanishing 360. They are awesome but very thin and kind of stick to your skin but that’s a good thing for working out. I bought them when they first came out a few weeks ago at buy 3 get 3 free and I love them. I am going to try the bra next! Thanks for sharing and stay safe and healthy and keep doing what your doing.

  5. Thanks, thanks, for the update on the Vanishing Line with Soma. I’ve been looking for undergarments like this. I needed this with the shirts we wear here.

  6. What a timely post! I’ve been wearing Soma’s Vanishing Back bras for a couple of years now and they’re the only ones that rein in my back bulge. I’m short waisted and that seems to be my problem area, along with my belly bulge of course, lol. I tried the 360 a few weeks ago but didn’t like it as much as the regular one. I get the front close bra, with a really wide band in the back to smooth my bulge. I also have the Vanishing Edge and Vanishing Tummy underwear and love how they eliminate panty lines. I wear thongs with jeans and pants but can’t stand them with shorts and dresses and these are perfect. I wish I’d waited to make my recent purchase so you could get the credit, Jo-Lynne!

  7. What a timely and informative post. Thank you so much. You said the hardware doesn’t show through the back of your shirt but does the hardware show through the front of your shirt.. Thanks in advance.

  8. I LOVE Soma bras. Have two and just order the BOGO!!! Have been wanting to try their vanishing line briefs too, so ordered 4 pair of those! Great sale and thanks for the heads up on it!!

  9. So timely. I bought the cute flowered front wrap dress you showed a while back and horror of horrors I have so much back fat that it doesn’t look so great from the rear view. Thank you being over 60. I am not overweight, 5’7″ 133 lbs. but all the weight has shifted to the mid-section. This may all be too much TMI as well, But all to say, what will help with that bulgy stuff just above the waist??

  10. Thank you for an informative post. I’ve been thinking about a good bra for under my tees. I will have to try one of the Soma bras.
A post that I would love to see is one on jackets that take you from winter to spring in pastel and light colors. I have seen lots of colored jean jackets, utility jackets, etc. but I’m not sure how to wear them. I live in Seattle where our springs are often chilly in the mornings and warm in the afternoons, so layers are necessary. Thanks for all your posts! I enjoy reading them and they help me know what is fashionably acceptable.

  11. After reading this post and some of the comments, I will definitely be placing an order.  Due to a skin disease right under my breasts, most bras with underwire hurt, so I hope I can find one without underwire to try.  I’m so excited!  Thank you!

      1. Thank you!  I placed an order for two pair of panties and two bras.  Thank goodness I pay the bills.

  12. I’d like to try one of these and will have to order online since there’s no store near me. How did you decide on the Rose (vs maybe the light nude or soft tan)?

      1. I was wondering the same thing (about the rose color).  Now that you have the rose, will you continue to wear it under a white t-shirt or would you prefer the soft tan? I want to order a bra specifically for white shirts. Thanks!

  13. Another great post.  I will try these.  I have two pair of panties from Victoria’s Secret years and years ago that I love. They are thicker and very smooth and kind of hold you in but aren’t super constricting and control top. They’ve stopped making them but I’ve been searching for something similar.  Does anyone know of any like that?  These sound smooth but much lighter and not as slimming.

  14. Thanks Jolynn, for the recommendations! I’ve been looking for my teen daughter, and these are some I think she will love!

  15. Thank you for these suggestions! I’ve had the vanishing edge bikinis for a few months  and have been very happy with them. Just ordered some of the 360 bra and hipsters – can’t wait to try them!
