The Eyes Have It!

I’ve been reading Carmindy’s latest book, get positively beautiful (stay tuned for a giveaway at the end of the month!)  She takes each facial feature and spends a chapter explaining how to maximize your assets using her makeup techniques.

I was particularly intrigued by her chapter on eyes.  According to
Carmindy, "opposites attract".  She advises using shadows, liners, and
mascaras that contrast with your eye color to make them pop, but she’s
careful to point out that there are no hard and fast rules so
experimentation is key.

I have brown eyes, and for as long as I can remember, I have been
wearing brown eyeliner and shadows.  But Carmindy suggests BLUE!

Now, I don’t know about you, but the mention of blue eye makeup
brings back flashbacks of high school.  I attended high school in the
eighties, when the only thing bolder than the blue eye shadow was the
wave of mile-high bangs plastered with Aqua Net.  So at first I was
all, HUNH-UNH.  No WAY!

But then I read on.  To keep it modern, Carmindy advises using
neutral shadows with blue eyeliner.  She also suggests trying shades of
forest and emerald green.  I was intrigued.

So I hopped in my car and stopped into my faithful Sephora store where I picked up an eyeliner by Make Up for Ever in Iridescent Navy Blue.

  1. I agree. I have a deep, cyan-leaning blue that I wear in various combinations with brown and peach, or alone. Often I will use the neutrals as shadow, then wet an angled brush and use the blue as liner.

(Which reminds me, I have a painting I must finish before watercolor class tonite. Gotta run! But not without looking at your photos.)

Okay, what you have pictured is very much like what I do. 🙂

  2. I like them both! I think it looks good b/c it’s NAVY (when you first said ‘blue’ I pictured bright 80’s blue). It’s different; surprising.

I have blue eyes, and I wear brown liner…

  3. I have worn navy eyeliner (top lid only) for years. It is enough to brighten my eyes, but I don’t think it screams BLUE either, LOL (at least I hope not). You might like it!

  4. I always have to go buy something new after I ready your blog. Now I have to know what Carmindy says about my green eyes. You’re costing me a fortune in these tough times chickadee. 🙂

  5. This makes SO much sense!!!! Brown and Black always make my eyes pop more than pinks and blues!!!! Although, when I wear green, they pop, but that could be because my eyes are blue-green and it forces the green out. Who knows!
