The Important Things

I’ve been feeling quite self-absorbed lately.  I don’t like it.  All this shopping for the perfect party outfit and the general busyness of the holiday season has me ignoring my household chores and putting my family’s needs on hold.  And let’s not even talk about my daily devotions or preparing for my weekly Bible study.

Last night we had a bit of a scare here at the Musings household.  It was minor in the grand scheme of things, and it turned out to be nothing, but it got me thinking.  My mom has always said that she believes things like that often happen to get our attention, to remind us to take better care of ourselves or to get our priorities in order.

I realized last night that I need to get my priorities straight.  It’s fine to enjoy life and celebrate the holidays but the most important things are the everyday things — health, family, faith.  And those things should always come first.

  1. so true. except i am always too absorbed in ANYTHING NOT INVOLVING HOUSEKEEPING. lol.

i need to get a grip. 2008 will be here in a blink, and i want my house to be CLEAN and IMPRESSIVE. or, at least clean. haha.

glad everything is okay your way. it is, yes?

  2. I hope all is OK, but from reading your blog daily, I don’t think your priorities are one bit out of order. You absolutely deserve a “yummy mummy” outfit and should not feel guilty having fun with it. Your heart is with God and your family.

  3. Hi! I’m your weird friend. Congratulations (I always feel better when the wake-up call comes and ends up being small.)

Last night we ran into one of my husband’s co-workers, frantically searching all over the store for her purse! We came home and went through our credit cards, took copies of the backs so we’d have the numbers all in one place, and canceled several. My hero made the stellar suggestion that we not carry exactly the same cards, in case anything happened and we had to close accounts, so we could still have a credit card that worked.

I know it’s not the same, but it’s something that I would have felt really stupid if something had happened and I had not done it.

Does this ramble make any sense? Anyway, of course, I’m happy that everything’s okay at the Musings. 🙂

  4. I’m so sorry.
I can relate, though. Last night I was so distracted after running the babysitters home as they had another gig (I was hosting a babyshower and had left guests alone in my house). I dashed into the house with the dog baroo-ing his basset hound greeting. I left the car running in the garage. I could have killed my family.

Thankfully I found it an hour later after everyone went home and I went to the garage fridge for an ingredient for dinner.

Yes, I fully believe He used that to get my attention.
