The Perfect $30 Spring Cardigan

Happy Saturday, friends! If you’re a regular reader, this cardigan probably isn’t new to you, but I did want to feature it in a dedicated blog post because it’s so good! I wore it at Disney World, and I’ve already worn it a few more times since I’ve been home.

This is the perfect casual cardi for layering over a t-shirt or tank and wearing with jeans or jean shorts.

It’s made of a super soft jersey material, so it’s more sweatshirt than sweater, but it doesn’t look extremely casual either. It has a hood and pockets — both nice details. It really does look and feel more expensive than it is.

I have the rose, but it also comes in several other solids as well as a few marled and striped color ways. It also comes in a non-hooded version, if you prefer.

For size reference, I have the small. It definitely runs big, but I washed and dried it before I took these pictures, and it fits perfectly now, so I’m glad I didn’t size down to an XS.

I’ve worn this cardigan several different ways, but for today’s look I paired it with a white tee and wore cropped skinnies and white loafer mules.

I got my cropped skinnies last year during the Shopbop sale. They’re spendy, but I love the fit and feel, and I get a lot of wear out of them in spring and summer.

Because they’re not super skinny, I feel like these jeans give me the look of the cropped straight jeans that are trending, but they’re more flattering to my figure.

If you’re looking for cropped skinnies for less, this pair looks similar, and I also have and like this cropped straight pair at Loft.

I’m kind of obsessed with these white textured loafer mules, and they’re 20% off right now at Lord & Taylor. They’re a little stiff at first, but as I walked in them, they did start to loosen up. I think they will just take a little time to break in.

Loafer mules are one of the best transition shoes for spring. The open back is a little more up-to-date and feminine than the traditional loafer, but they are harder to walk in, so it’s a trade-off. If you’re not sure you want to commit to this shoe trend, Target has some nice looking loafer mules for less.

This crossbody is also a newer purchase. I’ve been wanting to add a white bag to my spring/summer wardrobe, and this one is perfect because it’s dressy enough to carry to church or out to dinner, but it’s not too much for an everyday look like this one.

The leather is buttery soft, and it has a nice microfiber lining. I got mine at Lord & Taylor, and it’s included in their buy more, save more sale — 20% off one item, 25% off two items, and 30% off three or more!

The day we shot this look, it was FUH-REEZING. Can you tell? My nose is even red, haha!

I can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can start wearing this outfit for real. I have a feeling it’s going to be on constant repeat this spring.

Outfit Details:

hooded cardigan (non-hooded version) // tee // cropped jeans (similar for less) // loafer mules // crossbody bag // star necklace // pendant

  1. Good morning – I bought this pink cardigan & the soft olive green one both after seeing them here & love them both. The fabric is soft & hangs so beautifully. Thanks for sharing this – and it’s a great price at $30 each.

Our mornings here in the Texas panhandle are still cold-but we’re warming up to the low – high 60’s most days. We even had a real thunderstorm last night with small hail. The rain lasted over 2 hours, thank the Lord it only hailed for a few seconds. But we needed the rain so badly.

    Have a wonderful weekend!!

    1. I looked at the nonhooded cardigan and planned to purchase but read some negative comments (no all, by any means, but several) on the drop shoulder seam and how tight the arms are. Do either of you have an opinion on those style features?

      1. I didn’t find the sleeves tight at all. I love the hoods as the wind blows here a lot so they’re a big help to my hair.

The drop shoulder seam is fine – the cardigan with of w/out hood a great purchase – very comfy & yet looks so nice.

      2. After you wash it, the sleeves do get a little tighter, but I like it that way because I have thin arms and I think cardigans look frumpy if the sleeves are too big. I’m going to guess that it depends on the shape of one’s arms, as to whether they’re deemed too tight or not. That’s probably why it only comes up in a few of the reviews.

I have had SO many people tell me they bought it and love it, so I think you’ll be fine! 🙂

  2. I love this cardigan, looks so cute and comfy. I think I would get a lot of use out of it this spring and summer. A lot of reviews do say it runs big as you also indicated. We are similar in size and I usually buy the same sizes as you.  I normally hang dry most of my clothes so wondering if the XS (vs small) would be a better fit?  Just wondering your thoughts. Thanks 😊

      1. Thanks Jolynne.  And just an FYI the Anastasia brow whiz eyebrow pencil that you recommended and I now LOVE (thank you) is on sale today only at Ulta half price.  I know you said you love them and buy 2 at a time.  I just bought 4. Lol.

  3. Yes that cardi is amazing!  I have the white/black stripe in the hooded version & the rose and black colors in the non-hooded version. As much as I love the look of the hood, I found that I prefer the way that the version without the hood drapes. Everything else about them is exactly the same- most importantly that buttery soft fabric!!

    1. Hey Katrina….is the rose color like it shows in Jo-Lynne’s pictures….pretty pink or more the muted dull pink like the Amazon picture shows?  I want to order but don’t really look good in the dull muted pinks.  Thanks.

      1. Kathy- I think that Jo-Lynne’s pictures are a better representation of the true color- at least on my screen!  I think it is a prettier shade than it appears on Amazon.  The good news is returns are super easy with Amazon if the color isn’t right for you.

  4. I just ordered the cardigan in the same color, Rose!  That is one of my best colors to wear, and I think I will get more wear out of it than a short denim jacket in a similar color.  I know that the longer length of this cardigan will be more flattering than the short jacket.  So, THANK YOU for sharing it again.  The sun is out here as well, which is awesome since the Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon began last night.  Have a fabulous day!

  5. Ooo! I’ve been looking for a new cardigan to carry me into spring can’t wait to check this one out. 😊

  6. I love these long cardigans you have shown us!  I just wish I could find them in petite.  They look so cute on you and I’d be tripping over them.  Ha.  I’ll just have to be on the lookout for something similar in petite.  I do love all the pinks you’ve been posting lately!

  7. Do you have the Daily Ritual Women’s Terry Cotton and Modal Hooded Open Sweatshirt or the
Daily Ritual Women’s Supersoft Terry Hooded Open Sweatshirt? One came up when I clicked the cardigan link and the other when I clicked the picture at the bottom of your post. Thanks!

  8. And…ordered!  I love the pink for spring, and your sizing notes are always super helpful and accurate. Thanks for the recommendation!

  9. Oh, I love this! I haven’t been buying or even browsing much (with the exception of those R&B jeans the second you posted they were on sale last week haha), but I just added 2 of these cardigans to my prime wardrobe. They just seem like just an easy, throw on and go top layer.

    1. Oh, and I forgot to tell you that ULTA has your ABH eye pencil half price today. I’m finally trying it 👐

  10. Good morning! It’s a cool, partly cloudy 65 degree day in Southern CA and I’m in black leggings, long sleeved white tee and the SAME cardigan you’re featuring today! 😊 I ordered it from your instagram link a couple weeks ago. I bought it in the marled gray color. It does run big! I bought the xs but had to wash and put it in the dryer before I got the fit I wanted. I think it’s because the hood is a little bulky, but It’s super comfortable and versatile. Thank you! 💕
So I wanted to also comment on how cute those white woven mules look on you!! I bet you’d look cute wearing them with jean shorts too. Are they comfortable?
It’s a working Saturday for me. I have my school open house next week and I have to go in and hang up all my students work.
Enjoy your early spring Saturday! 🌷

    1. Heather….can I ask your height.  I’m 5’3″ and trying to decide if XS would work for me.  I think the small would be too big and long.  I’m 122lbs.

      1. Hi Kathy, I’m 5’9” and the cardigan hits me right at lower hip length. Sounds like you’d definitely need the xs 😊 ……check on the amazon site though as they might offer petites. Or washing it in warm water and putting it in the dryer will definitely shrink it up a bit.

  11. Could you tell me what color pink the cardigan really is? I want to order it but I like the color it shows in your pictures, more pink but don’t really care for the color its shows on the Amazon site, more muted color.
