The Winner and an Arm Update

And the clever titles just keep on coming.

So we got 200 comments on the Julian & Co. giveaway!  Wow, y’all sure do come out of the woodwork for a jewelry giveaway.  Of course there can only be one winner, but when you have an occasion to pamper yourself or someone else, you know where to go for gorgeous silver personalized jewelry.

The winner for this giveaway is Kari of Kari’s Ramblings.  Kari, you will be receiving an email from me shortly.  Congratulations!!

And thank you to Julian & Co. for sponsoring this giveaway.

In other news — the arm.  It seems that I almost definitely have tendinitis of the elbow.  Which may require cortisone injections.  (Do you recall how deathly afraid of needles I am?  I’d rather birth a baby in the car on the way to the hospital in the middle of a snowstorm than endure an injection of any sort.)  I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that.  For now we will try an anti-inflammatory and better posture.  Thus, my new chair.

And it gets better.  Oh yes it does.  We’re not done yet.  It’s two for the price of one!  I might also have carpal tunnel, so I got a referral for an EMG.  Which basically sounds like a method of Japanese torture.  It also involves needles, the thought of which makes me want to crawl under my desk and suck my thumb.

I did pick up a wrist brace at Target this morning, as many of you suggested, and I haven’t been on the computer much at all today.  I am thankful for a holiday weekend so I can take it slow.  I can already hear you jeering at the mention of me taking it slow.

Perhaps with all my time away from the computer, I can shop for a lamp to replace that dilapidated thing you see in the above picture.  It is the only source of light in my office, and it’s clearly on its last leg.

Meanwhile, I hear it’s time for Driveway Happy Hour down the street, so I’m off.  (I just love my neighborhood.)

Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!  And while you feast on burgers and dogs fresh off the grill and set those miniature American flags in your flower planters, say a prayer for the troops overseas whose families are missing them this weekend.

  1. ooo yuck.. I just got a cortisone shot in my achilles tendon yesterday.. lets just say it was not fun! Hopefully yours doesn’t come to that!

  2. Ouch…I not a fan of shots either…although I do think I could handle a shot better than I could delivering the baby the way you described it!
Glad to hear you got a chair and the brace…and I am so glad to hear you are going to take it easy too.
By the way, love the wall color and your clean office!
    Have a good weekend!
(I should have thought to come here first to check on you before I sent you the email asking how you were doing.)
(now this is like an email!)

  3. Hi Jo-Lynne, I’ve had 3 cortisone shots in my back before, so if you have any questions, or need that support, just hollar I understand. Honestly it could make a world of difference. I am glad that your taking this weekend off, I hope that helps. Did you get some wrist pillows? LOL my hubby got some for me, because I do graphics myself. Good luck and have a great weekend.

  4. I hate it that all that awful stuff is going on in your arm and hand…but that is one FINE looking red office!

You hadn’t mentioned it, but I knew you were just dying to!

Have a good weekend…and REST! We’ll all live.

  5. Sorry about the potential needles in your future. Have a great holiday weekend and enjoy your down time. Thanks for the reminder about praying for the troops.

  6. Ouch!!! I had this same situation when writing a couple of my books. Resting your arm is a must.

    Do you have a laptop?

I’ve found that if I change the way I sit… sometimes on the couch… sometimes at my desk… sometimes at the kitchen table… this helps.

I think it’s just not letting the same muscles, tendons, whatever, getting overused in the same position.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

  7. You need a cushion thing for your wrists (from my Dh, the industrial engineer). My neck and arm both hurt until we got a riser for the computer (and it has a cupholder!), a proper desk chair and the wrist cushion thing. LIFESAVER!

  8. sorry about your elbow. i’ve had some problems with my hand and also had an emg. i can’t tell you that it was exactly a pleasant experience, but hopefully, you’ll get some answers. lovely office!

  9. Hey! How was driveway happy hour? It is sad – I have figured out Brian’s blackberry so I can’rt even get away from my blogging addiction here! We are having fun though! Hope you guys are too! Take it easy breezy! (How do you spell check on one of these?)

  10. I have kind of the same problem but not as bad. Someone told me to sit on a exercise ball while I am typing. It makes you have great posture and it’s the perfect size. It’s crazy to say, but it’s help. Have a great weekend!

  11. Back from Paris and sorry to hear of your hand/wrist troubles. I am with you on the needles thing….what am I saying, I am NOT with you, I am not even cowering behind you….in fact I am thankfully all the way across the ocean from you and the needles! (I am sure you feel so much better now with my ovwerwhelming sympathy!)

Take care, and try not to blog TOO much. Could you bribe one of your kids to type for you? (or would that be exploitation of child labour?)

(Way too many brackets in this post) (Sorry)

  12. Hi, just thought you may like to know that vitamin B (i think it may be b6 in particular- you would need to check) can really help reduce carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms. I have had the tests done and ended up having surgery on both of my hands in the end but Vit B definitely helped.

  13. While I’m saying a prayer for the troops I’ll also say a prayer for your arm… Sounds very painful! Do they know the reason? Too much typing? Ack!
Anyways, you have a wonderful blog here… =)

  14. Oh, I hope it feels better really soon!
    Take care of yourself!
Sounds like a fun neighborhood, indeed.

  15. I just want to tell you that I am really sorry that I put off getting an EMG. I was just plain lazy. But after enduring one, I had good reason to avoid it. Sorry. Suffice it to say I will NEVER get acupuncture.
