Thursday-Thursday

Yeah.  I’m real clever with the titles this morning.  So I know that a lot of you are still not seeing my new BLOB.  But my expert installer Heather, who has been working tirelessly on this migration and is probably right now cowering under her bed, trying to avoid any more of my emails (just kidding! she would NEVER do that; she has been so great through this whole process), promises that “everything should be right by tomorrow”.  So hang tight.  Cause I know this is all you’re thinking about.  Sheesh, could I be any more self absorbed?

Oh, and if you are still living in 1950 and using Internet Explorer, for the love of all that’s beautiful, please install Firefox and use it from now on.  I promise you will thank me.  (And you might just see my blog, if you aren’t seeing it in IE.)

Meanwhile, enter my giveaway for the pashmina/silk scarf below.  It’s gorgeous.  And all you have to do is leave a comment.

So on a more personal note.  I feel so out of touch with y’all.  I’ve been so wrapped up with the gift guide and moving to WordPress and fielding pitches from PR people wanting reviews and giveaways before Christmas that I haven’t had ANY time to read blogs in WEEKS.  If it weren’t for Twitter, I’d have no idea what’s going on in blogland.  And my comments are still considerably less than what they used to be (with the exception of my post about boots – y’all do come out of the woodwork to discuss fashion!)  And I’ve been thinking.  I know.  Frightening.

But in all seriousness, I think I’ve allowed the business of blogging to crowd out the community of blogging.  And I’m starting to feel a little lonely over here.  (And yes, I remember well when I was thrilled to have 3 comments on a post.  I am NOT taking double digits for granted.)  But at the blogger luncheon on Tuesday in NYC, we were talking about how much we love the community we’ve created on our blogs and that the other benefits are all bonus.  And I truly feel that way.  But I think I’ve been so busy trying to keep up with everything I’ve taken on and all the emails that constantly fill my inbox, that I have lost sight of that.  And I miss it.  I miss YOU.

So I’m going to work on getting the rest of my blogs moved to WordPress.  (Heather, we WILL make it out alive.  I promise.)  And I am going to get this gift guide off my desk by Monday if it KILLS me.  (And it might.  But just WAIT until you see it.  You’re going to find SO many awesome gift ideas for the holidays!!!)  And I’m going to finish the reviews and giveaways I have lined up.  And I’m going to finish all the Christmas blog designs that are waiting on me.  And THEN.  Then I’m going to take some time off from the business of blogging and make time for the friends I’ve made along the way that I’ve been neglecting.  And I can’t wait to visit you all.  In fact, I promise to take sometime tonight and visit everyone who leaves a comment on this post.  I used to do that, visit all my commenters.  But I’ve gotten so lax.

Meanwhile my parents are coming this weekend, and we are celebrating my son’s 9th birthday.  Do you think they’ll notice if I don’t clean the house?  Because really.  WHEN will I fit that in?

So anyway.  If you’ve gotten this far without falling asleep, please leave me a comment, tell me what you’re up to this weekend, how your fall is going, what you’re eating for Thanksgiving dinner, ANYTHING.  Talk to me.  And I promise to stop by and say hello.

PS.  I met Kim on Tuesday, and her post today is EXACTLY what I’m talking about.

  1. LOL! You are so funny! You make me tired just reading all you have planned … and there was no mention of Christmas shopping, baking, cards — or keeping up with laundry, dishes … shew!!

At my house everything’s coming up puppies! We have a new Black Lab/Blue Heeler puppy, seven new “Pom-Shih” puppies — with two that need some supplemental feedings every few hours. They add extra laundry (bedding), extra dishes (bottles) and LOTS of extra time!

    Have a great Thursday-Thursday … and Friday-Friday … and Saturday-Saturday. :o)

  2. Love the fall colors.. told you that on twitter.. but I figured you would like to hear it again :-)! I am looking forward to the gift guide.. I have a lot of shopping done.. but Im stuck on a few people!

  3. I love your blog. I am new to the blog’in world. I am finding that when I actually have time to put something on my blog, that I feel such a release. When I read other blogs it gives me a connection to the ‘outside’ world. Being a stay at home Mom can be very lonely at times.

You want to know what I am up to? I am wondering how I can really get started bloging? I want to know how I can review products and give them away. I am wondering how all this works. Can you make a little money at this? I have heard about it, but don’t have a clue as to how. My youngest is getting older and I MAY have some free time in the future and would love to be able to stay at home and make a little money and still be able to be available to volunteer at school, church and etc. Also would like something that would regenerate my brain cells.

I am also cleaning out the guest bedroom from all the clothes that my kid’s have out grown. Got to get the room ready for my husband brother and his wife to stay in over Christmas. It is a HUGE project. I must add that I have a 3 year old Princess home with me too. She is such a HELP!!!

But I am not as busy as you are. You really do a ton.

Keep pushing on and know that you are loved and admired.

  4. Everything is showing up, but the ads are all up top and I have to scroll down quite a bit to get to the posts. I’ve missed you too! Not up to much, discovered facebook and have been using it like most people use twitter. Wishing I had more time, like always…

  5. I agree about Firefox! I’ve been on it for years and would never go back to IE! I just LOVE tab browsing – I usually have 5-10 tabs open at a time! LOL

I’ve been able to see your new digs since early yesterday! Love the new look and colors!!!

  6. I’ve been using Safari instead of IE and I really like it.

I’m so excited that I’m actually doing something this weekend- it’s usually a whole lot of nothin’. I’m going with my mom and sister to get pedicures and then have lunch!!!! We live in the same area, but we rarely get to do stuff together without kids. It’ll be such a treat.

You’re off the hook for stopping by since we’ve already emailed this morning :). One less thing on your list!

  7. Loved this psost, we all get busy sometimes. I am a HUGE Naysayer though…I do not like firefox at all, it is so limited compared to IE 7 – I tried chrome, it has potential but needs some time…I will be forever on IE I am sure…I am awlays surprised at the firefox supporters…maybe it is because I am old and have been using ie since it’s creation who knows…I can see your blog, it just has an enormous amount of white space on it, and I don’t care because I don’t come for the white space or the ads I come to read what you write because I enjoy it!
THanks for all you do for all of us
    Terra

  8. I am also very excited for the gift guide. I’ve bought roughly none of my gifts and am hoping for some righteous inspiration. No pressure though. I love reading blogs around the holidays just to see other people in the holiday spirit and read about all their traditions and recipes and such.

We made a Thanksgiving meal list last night, and the starches are a significant contributor. Mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cornbread, macaroni, rolls,… Luckily the fruit in the pies will balance everything out.

  9. Love the new look. And I can read it now. Stop making fun of us IE users – its what I know. When I get a pretty new Apple like you I will make the switch. Here is hoping that Santa is good to me this year!

  10. Oh how you make me laugh! I just read through your “100” post and realized why I enjoy reading you so much-we have MANY things in common. My #2 son turns 9 on Saturday. The blog looks quite lovely too! Have a wonderful day!

  11. I am your 12th to comment – you will have lots of visiting to do.

    Enjoyed this post,

I have been blogging less these last few weeks, and not doing much commenting either, just reading through the feeds.

Had to come and see the new look – I like it 🙂

  12. Great post. Totally get you. Still love ya and your blog.

I switched to Firefox. Trying to figure it out.

Can see your new digs now – very beautiful!

  13. I love the new look. I’m moving from wordpress.com to self-hosted in the next couple weeks. Fortunately, we’re making my design from scratch, so I don’t have to migrate that.

This weekend we’re celebrating a birthday too. My baby turns 6. As of today, I haven’t cleaned the house, bought supplies, or bought or wrapped gifts. And today I felt so lousy that I laid on the couch all day. I’d better hit the ground running tomorrow.

My goals are to create a biz like yours, so I’ll be interested in your journey of balancing biz with community.

    Thanks!

  14. Hey girl, I have missed your postings this last week! I swear I feel like the world is ending if I don’t get to read at least one post from you a day! Looking forward to having you back in full swing. I love the new fall colors! Good job! I need a cool new look, I have been using a generic template, but I’m thinking about finally joining the rest of the world and pay you to make me pretty! I’ll be checking out your other site….

  15. Hi – it has been a long while since I’ve been able to read blogs too. I miss it! Can’t wait to see the gift guide you’re working hard on – it looks like blogging has been very good to you. Take time to enjoy it!

  16. Well, I’m new to reading you, and I’m loving the blog (and the design, gorgeous!) and can’t wait to see the gift guide! Here’s hoping you get some time to enjoy blogging again real soon. ::fingers crossed::

  17. Love the new look of your blog. I have IE and Firefox. I tend to be on firefox more because I love the google reader with the firefox add-on (I read about on your blog) that allows you to see the actual webpage in the reader and keep track of tweets in the corner. I am on IE right now because I was curious to see if it looks right now and it does! One problem with Firefox is not everything on the internet works with it yet so sometimes I have to switch to IE but I love that you can have both. Sounds like you are very busy but you have a plan and that is half the battle!

  18. Hey! I finally got to see your blog on my computer….I’ll look into the whole Firefox thing when my hubby gets home and I have time to look into it!

I am doing the Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s this weekend (see my post – Fighting for Memories – if you haven’t already. Then just catch up on housework.

Other than that, I am officially addicted to blogland, so I know what you mean about missing the socialization it brings with it. Have a wonderful weekend with your family!

  19. Love the new look. Girl – I know you wrote a whole post about it but I don’t know how you do it all. I know everything you do for your interpeeps turns out wonderfully so I would bet things around home a pretty good too. Does the Mommy guilt every hit? What about your hubby is he supportive of all that you do?

What am I doing? I am supposed to be working but I have been seaching esty for a cute tooth fairy pillow for the kiddo – any suggestions?

This weekend we have the wrap up of soccer, the team party, a birthday party oh and the house needs to be cleaned and the laundry needs to be done and I’ll probably have to work.

  20. Your post desribes my life. I have really missed your blogging, but I understand how busy you are. Love your blog! Enjoy your time with your parents.

  21. I feel your business pain. I haven’t been taking the time to comment on the blogs that I read (or really reading them, for that matter) because I’ve had so many things going on. I won’t even go into my “blog” that my wonderful hubby set up for me months ago that I still don’t take the time to write on. I promise I’ll let you know when I finally do!

Have a great time with your parents this weekend! (I’m sure they won’t even notice a messy house!)

  22. Finally! I couldn’t find ya for a couple of days (even with Firefox). This is a great post and I think you will enjoy slowing down a bit after the craziness of December.

You realize that since you said you would visit the commenters – you will probably get 100 comments or so on this post – LOL!

Your Fall colors are lovely and I am looking forward to the gift guide!

  23. Your son and I share the same birthday, November 14! I’ll be celebrating with my family. Enjoy your weekend, too, and a very Happy Birthday to D!

  24. I’m here and I see gold and red! YAHOO!
I’m glad to hear about what’s been going on. I haven’t been able to keep up with as much as I would like to lately, but I am doing my best!
This weekend, well, since Monday is my B-day I WAS supposed to go to the Hilton all weekend. BUT my DH who has put off finding out if they have rooms available until TODAY just told me he didn’t know if we were going to be able to go OR NOT! SO, who KNOWS what I am doing this weekend.
As for Thanksgiving, well, that’s sad too! I am not sure if we will have Thanksgiving with the family this year ON Thanksgiving. All of my kids have other plans! I know I know, isn’t my life pitiful? Bet you wished you had never asked!
At any rate, I hope my page is one of those ones you are talking about doing before the break! My Diva’s gotta be Christmasy!

  25. Life sure can get crazy busy, can’t it? It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now. I’m just doing some blog hopping tonight…I’m glad I found yours. I have enjoyed what I have read. I look forward to coming back.

  26. I’ve been feeling out of touch too. We have just finished up a really busy season, and of course now moving into the holiday season, it won’t be much better. I’ve had a hard time visiting all my regular blogs to readl, and even when I do, I feel like I’m just peeking in the window and moving on, as I just haven’t had a lot of commenting time lately. But I’m really trying to get better!
I love your new look…I couldn’t see it because apparently I’m subscribed to the typepad address. I typed in your url and voila…beautiful fall colors! So now I’m off to resubscribe!

  27. For some reason your new page doesn’t update in my google reader or on my blogroll. The last post shows as “Back to NYC” but when I click on it, it says the page no longer exists (but does show the new colours). If I type your address directly into the address bar, I have no troubles seeing and reading your newest post. Strange.

  28. Love the new blog. It looks great.

I could give you a massive brain dump of all that is going through my head, but I want you to like me, so I won’t do that. 🙂

Husband and I and Baby are going to Austin this weekend for a wedding. It is November, but I’m wearing a sleeveless dress anyway (with a jacket of some kind). The people getting married are both from our college circle of friends, so it is going to be great fun. And the bride told me all about the cakes and I think that is what I am looking forward to the most.

My blog traffic is w-a-a-a-a-y down. But then I have not really given much time or thought to it, so that is no surprise.

I can’t wait for the gift guide, even if all I am doing this year is “window shopping.”

  29. I’m still here – I’m still reading. I’ve been guilty of being too busy lately too. But in my case, my blog has suffered. People still visit but I’m not getting comments. I sometimes wish life would slow down just a little bit. I just wrote about missing my babies and where has the time gone?

Don’t worry, we’re still here. And I’m definitely still here even if I’m not commenting.

  30. I’m still here too. Not like you have to wonder where I am, I keep popping up all over your world. Anyway, love the scarf and love the new home. Did you ask for guest reviewers a few weeks ago? It was before I had a blog, so I didn’t respond to the post. Maybe I read it somewhere else…. Anyway, have a great weekend.

  31. Well, the first thing that comes to mind is that I don’t know what the heck firefox is, so I’m still in the stone age I guess. I can’t devote any more time to blogging or blog reading at this point–I’ve barely got my head above water as it is!!!

Next, I’m still in that “grateful for a few comments” phase of blogging. It’s fun, and I’m trying not to make it a JOB. Because I’ve got enough of those right now! But anyhoo, go ahead and stop by and leave me a comment. It’ll boost my ego!

And last, Thanksgiving day, oh my. Well, we’ll start off the day with fasnachts. This is a Pennsylvania dutch goodie that my Daddy always made, and now my husband makes them! That and mimosas and coffee. Then I’ll make dates wrapped in bacon, and stuffed mushrooms and ham rolls and stuffed celery and roasted asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and we’ll snack all day so that we’re not hungry for supper. for supper, we’ll have all the traditional foods, an orange herb roasted turkey with sherried gravy, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, real whole cranberry sauce, broccoli casserole, and for dessert chocolate mousse pie and pumpkin pie. And coffee. I can’t wait to sip a glass of wine with my supper and maybe have a glass of Bailey’s in the evening with my husband, while we start the parade of Christmas movies. 🙂 Yes, this is my season! I should have saved this for a blog post. Ha ha! Maybe this will be your own private preview of my “welcome to the holidays” post. 🙂 Aren’t you special?!

Love your new digs…the colors and the swirlies are lovely. 🙂

  32. First of all – HI! Secondly – I’ve been totally out of the loop and out of the community for, like, months now so you’re probably doing better than I am. Life just happens that way sometimes – and really, life is too short for blog guilt!

I LOVE the new digs. Hooray and congrats on everything!!
