Tie-Back Double-V Sweater & Hudson Jeans

Greetings! I hope your week is going well. Today I’m styling off-black skinny jeans from Hudson Jeans with a fun teal tie-back double-V sweater and leopard flats.

I wore basically this same outfit to church last Sunday, but I wore my black suede mules instead of the ballet flats, and I swapped out the choker for my monogram necklace.

I like both versions but I think this one is my favorite. It’s nice because it’s comfortable enough to wear for everyday but the sweater has some fun details that level up the casual look.

Hudson Jeans sent me these black skinnies to try out and share with you. They’re the Nico ankle super skinny jeans, and they fit like a second skin. I wore them all day Saturday, and they didn’t bag out, although they do soften up and mold to your body as you wear them through the day. For size reference, these are the 28, the same size I wear in most other premium denim brands.

There isn’t a huge difference between legging jeans and super skinny jeans, but you can see that these are snug without being skin-tight. They have a 9″ rise and a 28″ inseam with a 10″ leg opening, and I like that they’re made of 98% cotton. They’re super soft and comfortable to wear all day.

This wash isn’t a jet black; it’s more of a faded black with a casual vibe to it, but you can definitely dress it up or down.

On top, I wore this tie back double v sweater I picked up at Loft a few weeks ago. I love this teal color for fall. It looks nice with black and grey particularly, but you can also wear it with a dark wash denim or a lighter wash. I just stay away from the mid-wash denim so there is some contrast between the two shades of blue.

I also think this sweater would be gorgeous with white jeans. I would just wear boots or booties to make sure it looks intentionally like fall.

The tie back detail is really fun, and I like that it shows some skin without sacrificing modesty, and you don’t have to worry about it being so low that it may show your bra strap.

As far as silhouettes go, this probably isn’t my best look. The sweater doesn’t have a lot of shape to it, but it’s nice for those days when you want to wear something cute that isn’t clingy.

I felt like the outfit was rather plain on its own so I jazzed it up with leopard flats. These sold out, but I also love my Felicia flats in leopard. In fact, I almost wore those for this shoot. I could go either way with this outfit.

For jewelry, I thought this choker necklace with the tiger’s eye stone on a black cord worked well with the leopard flats.

I added gold earrings and a stack of gold bangles to complete the look.

  1. SUPER cute! I love this sweater and can picture it a lot of different ways! I love it with the black and leopard! I also picked up the orange cardigan from old navy because I kept looking at the picture where you styled it with leopard flats and an orange tee and I need to make that outfit happen!!

  2. I’ve been debating all week on buying the Minnie Flats in Tortoise. I’m taking it as a sign that I should since your link included Tortise.

  3. That’s such a pretty color and I love how you paired it with leopard print. I have found that the jewel tones really work with the leopard print though I only own accessories with the leopard print. I guess I haven’t gotten that daring yet! Have a great rest of the week!

  4. So pretty Jo-Lynne!  The teal colored top is a great color on you!  The fall colors are not evident too much down here, just yet, and our highs are still in the 80’s.  However, that is much better than the 90’s.  And there’s more wind, which is nice.  Now it looks like starting Saturday we are going to be dealing with another hurricane, in less than 4 weeks.  Not good!

      1. Yes!  Of course, the path is changing, so AL and LA may get hit hard, with GA just getting rain.  I’ve read tha5 October is a big month for hurricanes.

  5. Love everything about this outfit. The leopard outfits are perfect. You look amazing from head to toe. I have seen the Target flats and I wonder about that curve if they would stretch out good and be comfortable or just be kinda pinchy at the heels. Love the polish too!

  6. Great outfit. Love the teal sweater– debating. A couple of times I’ve put Loft items in the shopping cart and then not ordered them because of the $9 shipping. Guess Nordstrom has spoiled me, lol. Also like the Hudson jeans. I bought a pair of Hudsons during the Nordstrom sale and they fit so well. And I don’t have to constantly tug them up!

  7. That sweater is such a beautiful color! I like the details, too.
Can you tell me, what size did you buy in this one?
Lately, Loft sweaters and tops seem to be running big (but not every style).

  8. I have a question about your TB leopard flats: are they shiny? (It’s hard to tell in the picture.) Are they really comfortable? Like could I teach in them all day long? ????

    1. They’re patent leather so yeah, definitely have some shine to them. They took me some time to break in. I actually got blisters the first day I wore them walking around the mall, but now they’re broken in. My leather ones (not patent) did not give me blisters or take time to break in. I can definitely stand all day in them. I’ve worn my grey ones all over airports, etc.

      1. Thanks so much! I might try them. I have a pair of Syeve Madden leopard flats that I bought a year ago, but they’re open on the sides and sometimes my feet slip out of them when I’m walking fast- and I’m on my feet all day. They’re also not very comfortable, but hey they’re cute so I put up with it.
I saw a woman at the grocery store yesterday with the TB black ballet flats with the gold medalian and it was a super cute look.

        1. I do love those black ballet flats with the gold medallion. So classy. I got the similar ones at the #NSale (not nearly as comfortable) so I can’t justify them. I also like the brown with the gold medallion, but… I have so many shoes. LOL!

If you are going purely for comfort, the Sam Edelman leopard flats are like wearing slippers. I also like the look of them, they’re just different. These are really gorgeous, though, and different from the calfhair you usually see.

  9. Love the outfit! I scored some Sam Edelman leopard ballet flats at Nordstrom Rack a few weeks ago. I see they still have them online, super cute and I loved the price for quality shoes. I can’t wait to wear them more this fall and winter, thanks for the inspiration.
