Top 10 In 2019

Good morning! We are getting back to our usual routines today, how about you? Both girls have school, and my husband will be back in the office.

It feels good, but of course it’s Thursday, so another weekend will be here before we know it. This feels a bit like a practice round, but Monday will be game on!

I usually do a monthly Top 10 post at the beginning of each month, where I share the 10 most popular products and posts among JLS readers from the previous month.

Since it’s the beginning of a new year and not just a new month, I decided to post the Top 10 In 2019 in lieu of the Top 10 In December.

Top 10 in 2019: The 10 most popular products and post from my blog last year!

TOP 10 PRODUCTS IN 2019

Based on my ShopStyle analytics, these were the 10 most popular products across my blog and social channels last year. Most of these are sold out, but I linked them anyway.

#10. J.Crew Vintage cotton V-neck T-shirt // This was a great closet basic that got a lot of wear last summer and into the fall under cardigans and my denim jacket.

I hope they bring it back this spring, but maybe with a little more of a modest V.

#9. Caslon Drawstring Jersey Maxi Dress // I was super psyched when Nordstrom brought this Caslon maxi dress back for a second season. It’s so versatile and easy to wear.

I had the striped one the previous year and loved it, so I wasted no time grabbing up this black one when it came back in stock.

#8. KUT from the Kloth High Waist Ankle Cigarette Jeans // These jeans were an #NSale purchase, and they were a nice alternative to the more pricey AG Prima cigarette jeans, which were super popular last summer.

#7. LOFT Fern Kimono // I styled this kimono twice for the blog, and a lot of you loved it. I didn’t end up wearing it as much as I thought I would, but it’s a fun piece to have in my summer wardrobe.

#6. MOLOCH Acrylic Tortoiseshell Hoop Earrings // The tortoiseshell trend was hot last summer, and these earrings were a great way to participate without breaking the bank.

#5. LOFT Floral Mixed Media Tie Neck Shell // Such a pretty top, and so versatile! I hope LOFT brings back something similar next summer.

#4. “NYC” T-shirt in slub cotton // I definitely got my money’s worth out of this graphic tee! It’s such a fun way to level up a casual outfit.

#3. LOFT Floral Mixed Media Split Neck Shell // Another cute LOFT top for dressing up or down… this is sort of the spring version of the fall one that made #5.

#2. AG Prima Ankle Skinny Jeans // These jeans sold like hotcakes during the #NSale and long after. They were a great price for AG.

I haven’t been styling them much for winter, so I put them away, but I can’t wait to pull them out again for spring.

#1. Daily Ritual Women’s Supersoft Terry Hooded Open Sweatshirt // This cardigan was by far and away the most popular item on my blog last year, and it’s still available! I wore mine a ton.

What is really interesting to me is that almost all of the popular items were spring/summer pieces. I like fall fashion so much more. Go figure!

TOP 10 POSTS IN 2019

I shared my Year In Review last week, and I called out the most popular post(s) from each month, but still thought it would be interesting to see the overall 10 most popular posts I published last year.

These are listed in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular post last, based on my Google Analytics.

I rounded up a list of 10 wardrobe basics that never go out of style and what makes them timeless. These are the closet classics worth investing in good quality for the long term.

#10. Closet Basics That Won’t Go Out Of Style // This post is one I keep meaning to update, because it will be a great resource as I start styling some of these pieces multiple ways for upcoming blog posts. I promise to get that finished soon!

#9. 18 Ways to Wear White Jeans for Spring & Summer // White jeans are my favorite summer staple, and this post has a ton of fun ways to wear them.

Jo-Lynne Shane shares 5 Ways to Wear a Quilted Puffer Vest

#8. 5 Ways to Wear a Puffer Vest // We all love a good 5 Ways to Wear post! I’ll be doing a lot more of these this year, starting with grey sweaters next week.

I’m going to try spreading them out into 5 individual posts and see how that goes. Let me know what you think!

Shop Your Closet: 25 Fall Outfit Ideas to copy right now

#7. 25 Fall Outfit Ideas // Fall is my favorite season for outfits, and this post has so many good ones. Most can be worn right through the winter too, so it’s definitely worth a re-read.

2019 Swimsuit Guide for Women Over 40

#6. 2019 Swimsuit Guide // My assistant, Amy, and I work hard on this post every spring, so I was glad to see it rank in the Top 10.

#5. A Guide To Wearing Necklaces // This was a reader request… and it could probably use an update. Stay tuned!

2019 FASHION SNEAKER REVIEW & COMPARISON: Golden Goose Superstar, P448 John, Veja Esplar, Tretorn Nylite2Plus, Greats Royale, Superga Cotu, Taos Star, Josef Seibel Caspian | Jo-Lynne Shane

#4. 2019 Fashion Sneaker Review // This was a fun one to put together, although it was a ton of work. Would you like to see more of these? I’m open to topic ideas.

#3. Fall Wardrobe Essentials // Always popular, and definitely worth pinning for future reference.

How to Purge Your Closet and Love Your Wardrobe Again

#2. How to Purge Your Closet and Love Your Wardrobe Again // This post gets republished every year in January, and it brings in considerable traffic all year long, thanks to Pinterest and Google.

I do this process with each change of season, but I also keep a basket in my room and regularly discard things that I’m not wearing. It helps keep my closet under control, especially considering how many items I cycle in and out due to my occupation.

Fight the Frump: How to Wear Cardigans Without Looking Frumpy with real life examples and style tips geared for women over 40!

#1. How to Wear Cardigans Without Looking Frumpy // This is a repost from 2018, but it continues to rank highly, mostly thanks to its popularity on Pinterest, and it brings in some decent Google traffic as well. I’ve updated it several times, most recently in October of 2019, so it’s worth a re-read if this is something you struggle with.

And there you have it! Any surprises in here?

I really did expect to see more fall/winter products in the top 10, but the popular posts were pretty much what I was expecting.

Tomorrow I’ll be sharing my best fashion & beauty buys from 2019, and then next week I’m launching a series with 5 ways to wear a grey sweater! You won’t want to miss it.

  1. I love the sleeveless tops that you always share. One of my goals this year is to find several that I can wear to work and for everyday. Thanks for the tips and starting point.

  2. Buggers about that cold!  It started running through our family in the second half of December.  Knocked me on my tookus the week before Christmas..ugh!  Hope you get’ er done, quickly!

Enjoyed this post, of course.  How can you not enjoy the top ten of something you enjoy every day?  Your daily style is pretty much my uniform as well (although mine has a lot less flair and deets)… I just mean to say I appreciate all the thought you put into your posts, bc it helps me get so much more out of my closet.

    Happy new year!

  3. I would love a necklace update post. I’ve noticed that long necklaces ( anythymuch below the bottom of the bra ) are “out”. The newest length seems to be one that falls in the direct middle of the bra. Really Short necklaces seem “ of today” only if they are chain link and chunky.

  4. We are still in the holiday mode here. Our schools don’t go back in until Monday January 6… and our sons university starts Wednesday January 8. I’m hosting Christmas with my sister and her family on the 6 th so after that I’ll begin to take things down.. We are self employed so my husbands back today getting his feet wet and I’ve had some time in the office doing month end and getting set for this new year.. Sorry to hear your not feeling well hopefully it will pass quickly:) I plan to get back to my exercising next week but want to mix it up a bit this year somehow 🤷‍♀️. Any way right now we are all into watching the juniors hockey championships( we are big hockey fans) .. I’m looking forward to the grey sweater posts as I have a few. I’m anxious to see what’s coming our way for 2020 fashion and what trends if any we will be seeing.
    Have a great day

  5. Well, my diet starts today. Any junk food/sweets are going out the door so I’m not tempted. Wish me luck!
I did my closet yesterday morning. I’m not sure how good I was at purging but I have a bag filled with tops/sweaters/blazer to drop off today. It’s a start, right?
Karen mentioned trends. I’d love a post on the trends for 2020.

  6. I always love seeing a Top 10 post. I also love your Reviews and 5 Ways to Wear posts, too. I know you don’t wear a white button down shirt but I love a crisp white button down with jeans. Such a classy look!  So, perhaps you would consider a white button down review?

  7. Happy, Healthy New Year to you and your lovely family Jolynne – I very much enjoy your posts and updates.  I too need to get back to my exercises and yoga and definitely sensible eating.  However agree with your philosophy of acclimatising gradually !!
    All the best
    Jane

  8. I just finished putting my Christmas stuff away. I am now ready to start purging my closet. I love all your post and will be ordering more new things for spring and summer. I’m not much for sleeveless so I’m hoping you will post some tops with sleeves. Maybe a post that shows two looks a printed blouse with sleeves along side one without sleeves everything else could be the same

  9. I love this recap post Jo-Lynn! I’d really like to see you do a series of posts on building a wardrobe, kind of like your Timeless Closet Basics, only by wardrobe category. I feel like I’m always missing something basic to build an outfit, but I don’t know what I’m missing until I go to get dressed, and I’m not drawn to these things (like a basic white tee) when I shop. You are so good at analyzing what makes an outfit work, that I’d love for you to apply that to making a wardrobe work. I need a wardrobe building block tutorial — maybe a series focusing on fundamentals or building blocks (Outerwear Building Blocks, Footwear Building Blocks, T-shirt Building blocks, etc)  and then you can show us how to use those pieces in outfits throughout the year or thru a season. Maybe you can find a way to tie this into your goal for 2020 to focus on buying more quality pieces and less fast-fashion?

  10. I bought two of the Top 10 and haven’t worn either. It’s a lesson in needing to stop mindlessly purchasing stuff. I am hoping the jeans will fit in the spring so I can get some wear out of them.

I re-read the Closet Purge post and need to tackle mine soon!

  11. I actually read this yesterday, but didn’t get to comment.  I enjoyed looking back with you.  While I didn’t take everything out of my closet yesterday, I did take 95% of my upper body pieces out, pulled out a few tops that I know don’t belong in my closet, then did some rearranging.  I am happier with it now, especially since the true warm weather pieces are in the back corner.  The schools in our area do not start back until the 8th.  Have a great day!
