10 Random Things I Did This Week

OH!  I have a #11.  Today at 1PM I’m going to be on MomTV with Real Life Sarah talking about what to wear to Blissdom.  So tune in if you can!!

So I was totally planning to make this post a part of Top Ten Thursday over at Oh Amanda.  And then after it was all written, I realized that there is no Top Ten Thursday.  There is, however, a Top Ten Tuesday.

Ba-dum-CHING!

Nevertheless, here are 10 new things I did this week:

1. I found a new farm!  This one is only 30 minutes from me, and they sell pastured chicken and eggs and raw milk for half the price of the other places I go.  Unfortunately I’m not so comfortable drinking their raw milk, seeing how there was raw chicken stored in the same fridge (EW!) but eggs get cooked, so I bought 5 dozen.  (And I wash them before I use them. Just in case you were concerned.)

2. I met Vanderbuilt Wife.  She was visiting her parents, and they only live 20 minutes from me, so we met up for lunch.  And I found out that her inlaws lived just around the corner from me for years.  Seriously, WHAT a small world.  Jessie is the sweetest thing, and we talked nonstop until I had to go pick up my daughter at preschool.

3. I found a doctor who is an MD and also takes a holistic approach to healthcare.  WHY is this so hard to find?  She was totally speaking my language, and now I have a new BFF.

4. I tried lacto-fermented salsa, and it was pretty good.  (I know, it sounds gross, but fermented foods aid the digestion process.  And these days we don’t eat nearly enough of them, if any.  Except for wine, ahem.)

5. I learned how to FTP.  (Although I’m not entirely sure that’s a verb.)  (And if you don’t know what that means, then never mind.  It’s geek speak.)

6. I redesigned Chic Critique!  Isn’t it beautimous?  I also created a reader survey, so if you are a Chic Critique reader, please take the time to give us your 2 cents.  THANKS!

7. I ran outside for the first time in 2010.  It’s been too cold up until now.  Not that it’s exactly balmy at 47 degrees, but I’ll take it.

8. I started watching 24 and American Idol.  I’m having a hard time getting into 24 this year.  How is it that a man can be beat within an inch of his life and not have a mark on him?  But anyway.

9. I cooked a parsnip.  I saw a bin of “fresh and local” produce at my whole foods store, and I thought to myself, WHAT kind of local produce is possibly available in January in Pennsylvania?  Well, parsnip, evidently.  So I brought one home and threw it in my pot roast for dinner.  No one really cared for it, but hey, you don’t know till you try, right?

10. I ordered myself some new business cards for Blissdom.  I’m following Sarah’s lead and making them about ME, not my blog.  They still have my cute little purse and coffee on them though.  I couldn’t resist.

So, did you do anything new this week?  Do tell!

  1. I wish I had something new this week. We went to the doctor for the first time in 2010. We are dropping like flies here in my house. I’m the only one not sick and I am packing my can of Lysol, so watch out germs!!

  2. Wish I had something new to share, but I’m in the middle of newborn baby life, so lots of diapers, feedings, spit-up etc……not complaining, just telling it like it is 🙂

But I was wondering what your thoughts were on the salsa. How does it compare to regular salsa?

  3. Man, 47 degrees and we would be out in shorts! Not really but that is a heat wave here.

New…just a MN blogger event. That’s about it. That was exciting enough!

  4. I’ve tried to like parsnips, but no can do. Turnips are much more mild and I like those in soups and stuff. They may be fresh and local right now too.

  5. Hmmmm. Can’t think of anything I did new this week, other than feed two extra daughters. But that’s been going on for a couple of weeks now, so maybe it doesn’t count.

#8 cracked me up because we were thinking the same thing. We’ve decided that when watching 24 you just have to suspend all sense of reality. It’s just for fun. It’s just for fun. It’s just for fun . . .

  6. I found out that the reason I had no students is because someone listed my classes as unavailable. I had to go in manually and make them available. Not once, but 3 times–someone at IT doesn’t like me!

  7. This week I roasted a pastured chicken and then with the leftovers made a healthy casserole that provided 2 other meals. Next I’ll make broth with the bones using your method. Also, purchased Celtic Sea Salt which is really tasty!

Re 24, we enjoy the tongue-in-cheek humor that makes it different from other shows…along with all the other “yeah, right” moments. Even though it’s totally unrealistic (isn’t it?) I get sucked in every year because I’ve just gotta see what will happen next.

  8. Congrats on your first FTP.(on of the side effects of being made to a computer nerd is knowng geek speak)

For my first..personnal ones have been, running my first half a mile in 10 years. Getting my first apron and gloves set for the kitchen (now am a complete convert).

Bloggy ones.. doing my first book review, my first book give away, my first mcklinky and reaching 100+ followers…all in three days. YAY

  9. We tried a new vegetable this week too. Also not a big hit. But at least we tried.

I’m having day feeling sorry for myself for some reason and the thought of going to Blissdom makes me green with envy.

  10. well….not a first, but i baked a loaf of wheat bread and made chowder. the bread was a hit, the chowder was okay. we texans are such meat lovers! I am looking for new bread recipes, i wanna make something other than loaf after loaf. I am a 24 fan….it is just for the escape, nothing real about it. Hubby likes it, and i like to see him enjoy things! I want to have cards made…there is an idea……

  11. What a great week you had! But what do you do with 5 dozen eggs? How long do they last? I made cream of celery soup, without cream! I’m trying to limit my dairy, so you use potatoes instead and you shhhhzzzz it up with the stick blender. Surprisingly delicious. Celery, honest to Pete.

  12. I’m starting a new campaign at work and went to a new restaurant at work.. I also started watching 24 this season!! The last episode was a bit gruesome at the end, ugh.

  13. Oh, Jo-Lynne! I am just sick that the MomTV thing didn’t work out 🙁 I’ve been kicked off my own show before- it’s frustrating sometimes. We’ll have to try it again sometime.

  14. Tuesday. Thursday. Whatevs.

YOU MET VANDERBILT WIFE. HOW DID I MISS THIS?!!! Jealous.

Did you know it’s illegal to sell raw milk in GA? OK. I can’t find it anywhere.

  15. Ooooh, #3 caught my eye. I’m a nurse working at a hospital and when I ask the docs if they know anyone who is an MD that takes a holistic approach to medicine they look at me cross eyed. Would you mind emailing me her name? From what I gather I live pretty close to you. I’m in Skippack. And actually I think your model house may just be the same as mine! Your kitchen and family room look way too familiar!
