Top Ten in July 2020

Greetings, and hello Monday! It’s time for my Top Ten in July. This is when I round up the most popular blog posts and retail products among JLS readers during the previous month.

July was kind of an interesting month on the blog. Since I wasn’t purchasing as much, my Try-On Hauls were kind of lame, and they don’t monopolize the top few spots like they usually do. Then one of my older posts went gangbusters on Google and Pinterest and took over first place.

As far as products go, you all were loving my Amazon finds last month! I don’t buy a lot of clothes on Amazon, but when I do, they’re always popular. Talbots actually ranks a few times, and there’s even a book in my Top Ten!

So anyway, let’s get started.

TOP 10 POSTS IN JULY 2020

Based on Google Analytics, these were my top 10 posts during the month of July — but not necessarily the posts I published last month.

Sometimes older posts still get a lot of traffic from Pinterest or Google, so they continue to rank in the top 10, even through they were written earlier. I figure they deserve a mention if they’re still getting ranked.

10. Fall Looks from the #NSale Preview

In this post, I created some outfits with items from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Preview. I can’t wait to actually try things on tomorrow, and create outfits with this year’s selections. Until then, I’ve been having fun with Nordstrom Looks!

You can follow my Nordstrom Looks page, and I’ll try to keep adding new outfit ideas as I have time.

9. Try-On Haul + July 4th Sales

This Try-On Hauls was fro earlier in the month, but most of these items are still in stock. There are some good Everlane and Anthro finds in this post, as well as a great little Amazon dress that was super popular this month.

8. Summer Q&A: Fashion, Beauty, Health, Life

I was trying to do these Q&A posts monthly, but I fell off the wagon this summer. I’m glad to see y’all still like them. I’ll try to keep them in my regular rotation of post features.

If you have any questions for my August Q&A, feel free to email me with Q&A in the subject line.

7. What to Buy at the Nordstrom Summer Clearance Sale

Nordstrom is clearing their racks to make room for the #NSale, and that means tons of summer styles at deep discounts. I rounded up my favorites in this post.

6. Try-On Haul + Weekend Sale Picks

Another Try-On Haul with some good finds, including this jumpsuit, which you’ll see again in the Top Ten products list!

5. How to Look Classy on Any Budget

One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to fashion and style is that it costs a lot of money to look classy, but there are simple tricks you can learn to elevate your style without spending a lot of money.

I tried to round up some tips that I use, and I also googled and added some of those that resonated with me too.

4. How to Instantly Level Up A Casual Outfit

In this post, I showed how easy it is to level up a simple outfit with a piece of statement jewelry — a bracelet from Victoria Emerson Design, to be exact!

She’s having another sale right now, so be sure to check them out if you’ve been wanting one.

3. Dos and Don’ts for Wearing Shorts

This is a post from earlier this summer that continues to get a lot of Pinterest traffic, and it’s still relevant! I admit, the title is a little bit dramatic — there aren’t really “rules” for wearing shorts, but hopefully these tips will help if you struggle with them.

2. 2020 #NSale Preview: Prepare to Shop!

I’m loving the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale online preview this year! I’ve been able to take my time and take a deep dive into this year’s inventory. I was expecting to be completely underwhelmed by their offerings this year, but I have to say, they’ve done a good job at bringing back some old favorites and creating some new styles that are on point.

I can’t wait to get to the store tomorrow and try some things on! Of course, I’ll be sharing with you on my social media channels, so be sure you’re following my Instagram and Facebook Group!

1. Are Skinny Jeans Out of Style?

This post was written back in the winter, but it has gone bonkers on Google and Pinterest lately.

I probably should update it a bit with some newer pictures. I’m actually thinking some side-by-side images (with current skinny jeans looks next to the older ones) would be more helpful than the way I have it structured. Funny how these things become clear when I re-read a post a few months later.

Anyway, I thought it was fascinating that this post suddenly started showing up in my stats after all these months. I guess I should write more posts like this.

Okay, moving on to popular products…

TOP 10 PRODUCTS IN JULY 2020

These were the 10 most popular products across my blog and social channels last month. They’re listed in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular one last.

10. Relavel Travel Makeup Train Case

I guess I mentioned this when I posted my updated makeup routine. While it says it’s a travel case, I use it all the time for my makeup. I store it in my bathroom closet, and put it on the counter when I’m doing my makeup.

It does get a little dirty over time (as you can see!) so I replace it every so often. It’s probably about that time again…

9. Old Navy Mid-Rise Everyday Patterned Twill Shorts

These shorts were a fun find, and a lot of you seemed to like them too. They’re cool and comfortable, and the floral camo print is fun for a change. Plus, the price is right!

They’re TTS; I have the 6.

8. Talbots Cap Sleeve Sweater

This classy sweater easily pairs with shorts and jeans on the weekend or skirts and pants for work.

It comes in several colors, and at the moment, it’s on sale for $22.49 plus an additional 15% off in cart! It’s TTS; I have the small.

7. Talbots Straight Leg Crop Jeans

These are the pants I’m wearing with the pink sweater above. They’re thinner than some, but not see-through, and they have a straight crop cut that works well with sandals.

They’re TTS, or size down if in between. I have the 4.

6. Old Navy Boho Tassel-Tie Top

Another Old Navy find, this feminine boho style blouse is really cute with jeans and shorts, and it also comes in a really pretty coral floral.

Be sure to click on the regular sizes, if that’s what you’re looking for; for some reason, my link defaults to the tall sizes. It’s TTS; I have the small.

5. Daily Ritual Women’s Jersey Muscle Swing Dress

This easy swing dress is only $20, and I love the fit. Usually swing dresses are way too voluminous and tend to add visual weight, but this one has a nice shape through the waist and just enough of a flare to keep the style of the swing dress without being overwhelming.

It comes in several colors, and it runs true to size. This is the navy in a size small.

4. Fast. Fast. Repeat. by Gin Stephens

I actually had a book rank in my Top Ten this month! Fast. Feast. Repeat. by Gin Stephens is a handbook to intermittent fasting. I’ve read a bunch on this topic over the past few months, and this one is the most comprehensive and easy to read. Highly recommend.

3. KUT from the Kloth Lauren Crop Jeans

These jeans have been around for a few seasons, and they continue to come out with new washes to keep them current. I really like the texture to the denim and this darker wash.

They’re a straight crop, but a slim fit, which I find more flattering than the wider straight cuts; and the inseam is 25 1/4″, so they’re a true crop.

2. Daily Ritual Rayon Spandex Fine Rib Wide-Leg Jumpsuit

I was surprised to find this knit jumpsuit in 2nd place, but it really is cute, plus soooo comfortable. I like to wear it for casual days at home when I want to feel somewhat put together but cool and comfortable.

It comes in 5 colors, and it’s priced right around $30. It runs true to size; I’m in the small.

Drumroll, please! 🥁  First place goes to . . .

1. Daily Ritual Cozy Knit Dolman-Sleeve Boat-Neck Dress

Another Amazon Fashion Find! This cozy knit dolman sleeve dress really is an impressive find for $26.

It’s soft and cozy and comfortable, it has a really nice shape and flatters the figure without clinging. It comes in several colors, and it runs true to size. You can even wear this into fall with a denim jacket and sneakers or booties.

And that’s a wrap! Which posts from July were your favorites, and did you score any of these Top 10 products?

I love getting feedback from you all when you purchase from my site. It’s good to know what resonates, and I always want to be sure my recommendations are spot-on. It makes me so happy to hear when you’re pleased with a purchase; and of course if you aren’t, that’s helpful to know too.

  1. Thanks for the recap and lots of good stuff in July. I’m sure it’s a challenge during these uneasy times to know what to post and what people are actually buying right now. So this is always interesting to read. So I have a Nordstrom question for you. I wasn’t planning on buying anything this year but……in looking through the preview sale there a a couple of things I’ve been wanting a great prices. With that said, they are in my wish list but not sure when I can shop? I am an Insider member but don’t have a Nordstrom CC so from what I read, I can start shopping the sale Aug 13, right? Now if I apply for a credit card will I be able to shop sooner?

  2. Great post. How do you think makeup bag would work for storing everyday make up to keep off counter. I’m trying to reduce clutter. Also if you are at a loss for blog post would you include some things that are no longer in style to get rid of. Maybe scarves for summer etc. I read clunky jewelry and long skirts too.

  3. Can’t wait to see what you find tomorrow at the NSALE.  I see there isn’t a lot of new styles but a lot of the old ones from last year they have brought back. This can be good if you have a favorite from last year that needs replacing or missed getting.  I’m just not high enough status to be able to shop early enough to get things I don’t think.

  4. I always enjoy seeing this monthly post/recap.  One of my very favorites is the post on how to look classy on any budget.  I hope that the weather up there doesn’t get too rough!

  5. I bought #6 the Old Navy boho shirt and I love it! It has become my favorite summer shirt. So cool and comfortable and cute. Thank you!
