Top Ten in September

Happy Saturday! Today I’m sharing my Top Ten in September. This is when I round up the most popular blog posts and retail products from the blog and my social media channels during the previous month.

September was an interesting month — it’s the first time that no What I Wore Lately or Try-On Hauls made the top ten! But I’m getting ahead of myself…

TOP 10 POSTS IN SEPTEMBER 2020

Based on Google Analytics, these were the top 10 posts on my blog during the month of September — but not necessarily the posts I published last month. Sometimes older posts still get a lot of traffic from Pinterest or Google, so they continue to rank in the top 10, even through they were published a while ago.

These posts are listed in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular one last.

#10. Drape Collar Knit Blazer Outfit

I styled this drape collar knit blazer back in August with black pants and heels, so I wanted to share a more casual way to wear it. The rest of this outfit is made up of closet basics — blue jeans, a t-shirt, and loafer mules.

#9. They Had Me At Easy

My first inclination was to wear this sweater with blue jeans, but I pushed myself to think of something else, and I really like how it pairs with the faded black denim that is trending right now. And there are those Everlane loafer mules again!

#8. Sleeveless Turtleneck + Cropped Flares

This is the post that launched our 22 Days of Fall Fashion style series, and it is my least favorite outfit of the month. #trueconfessions #cantwinthemall

When I get complaints that all of my looks are with skinny jeans, I want to point to this post. There is a reason I don’t wear other styles very often.

#7. Cropped Cardigan Outfit for Fall

These ankle-length cigarette leg jeans in a trendy faded black wash were my second attempt to deviate from my typical skinnies. I like them a little better than the crop flares above. They’re kind of fun for a change.

Cropped cardigans are also trending this season, and I really like the fit of this one, plus camo! (It’s TTS; I’m wearing the small.)

#6. Try This: Utility Jacket + White Jeans with Grey Tee and Ankle Boots

Try This: Utility Jacket + White Jeans with Grey Tee and Ankle Boots

I love this color combo, but I don’t love the proportions of this outfit. (I explained more in the post.) I plan to recreate it with different jeans or a different t-shirt.

#5. How to Wear White Jeans After Labor Day

This is an old post that I updated with fresh pictures and pinned to Pinterest, and it really took off this month! It’s always a popular topic this time of year, and it has some fun outfit ideas if you’re looking for ways to transition your white jeans for fall.

#4. Women’s Pant Styles and Hem Lengths Demystified

I updated and republished this post at the end of August, and it continued to get a lot of page views last month.

#3. Fall White Jeans Outfit with Ankle Boots {or Mules}

white jeans outfit for fall

This may be my favorite look of the series. I just love the color combination, and the proportions seem to work a lot better than the similar outfit above.

This t-shirt is longer and cut a little fuller, so there was more of it to blouse out over the top of the jeans. Plus, the denim jacket is shorter than the utility jacket and has really nice structure. I also like that I can leave my jeans un-cuffed with these booties… these are small details, but they make all the difference!

#2. How to Wear Cardigans Without Looking Frumpy

Fight the Frump: How to Wear Cardigans Without Looking Frumpy with real life examples and style tips geared for women over 40!

This post is consistently one of my top referrers from Pinterest, and it has been since I wrote it several years ago. It’s often #1 in this list, but it was demoted to spot #2 this month… I guess people are more confounded by skinny jeans than cardigans these days.

#1. Are Skinny Jeans Out of Style?

This post is going bonkers on Pinterest, and it gets a decent amount of traffic from Google as well. In fact, September was the 3rd month in a row that this post was in first place, even though I wrote it last winter.

If you found my blog from this post, let me know! And if you have any other topic ideas I should tackle like this, I’m all ears.

Okay, moving on to popular products…

TOP 10 PRODUCTS IN SEPTEMBER 2020

These were the 10 most popular products across my blog and social channels last month. They’re listed in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular one last.

#10. Banana Republic Relaxed Cowl Neck Top

This top tied for 10th place, and I wanted to share it because it has  been restocked, AND it’s 40% off + extra 10% off applied at checkout! It’s a little summery, but it would be fine for warmer climates this fall or for layering under jackets.

I think it would also make a great little Zoom top, although some say larger prints are better on screen. Still, the color is vibrant and the neckline is flattering. I’ve worn it out to dinner a few times, and it would be nice for work wear. It’s TTS; I have the small.

#10. Caslon Crop Utility Pants

I’ve really enjoyed these utility pants so far this fall. They’re really easy to style, comfortable, and flattering too. They’re also 40% off, and they come in grey and camo.

These pants were snug right out of the box, but they loosened up and fit nicely now, so I recommend sticking with your true size. I have the 6.

#9. Caslon Drape Collar Knit Blazer

I love the idea of dressing up jeans with a blazer, but most blazers are a little too tailored for my taste. This drape collar knit blazer is the perfect solution. It’s elevated and still comfortable. It also happens to be on sale right now! I found it TTS, but some ladies have sized down. I have the small.

#8. ATM Schoolboy Cheetah Print Slub Cotton Tee

This was one of my biggest surprises of the #NSale. The price tag had me totally put-off at first. Even on sale, it’s a splurge. But once I tried it on, I could see what all the hype was about.

The quality is fantastic, and it has such a nice fit and feel. I love it and have worn it a ton already. It’s almost never in stock, but if you can snag your size, it’s on sale again. (I have the medium.)

#7. Gap Easy Sweater

I guess you all really like this color! I was drawn to this easy sweater — that is actually the name of it — for the cheerful purple/burgundy stripe pattern when I saw it online, and I was thrilled with how soft and comfortable it was when it arrived in the mail.

The stripe color ways are low inventory, but the solids are still fully stocked. It’s true to size; I have the small.

#6. Talbots Soft Merino V-Neck Sweater Dress

I’m happy to see this dress ranking in the top ten! I didn’t want to let this whole series go by without a single dress, so I was thrilled when this one arrived in the mail and it fit so perfectly.

It also comes in grey, navy, and a gorgeous russet; and it’s 40% off  with code SMILE40! It runs TTS; I’m wearing the small.

#5. Vince Camuto Jean Jacket

You probably already know of my love and adoration for this jean jacket, and it’s currently 30% off. It has washed and worn well, but I feel like it is finally starting to look its age. I’m tempted to buy a replacement while it’s on sale. It runs TTS; I have the small.

#4. Caslon V-Neck Cotton Pique Sweater

I think the colors in this sweater are so pretty, and it’s just a nice piece to throw on and go. I guess you all liked it too, since it’s #3!

It does tend to “grow” as you wear it, so you may want to size down if ordering. I have the small, and I’m wishing I had the XS.

#3. Caslon V-Neck Slub Sweater

I love this lightweight stripe v-neck sweater for transition season. It’s flattering and layers easily under my denim jacket or utility jacket. Unfortunately, this tan color has sold out, but the red is actually very pretty too.

I’ve already washed it (I laid it out to dry) and it didn’t shrink at all. It was a bit wrinkly, though, so I took an iron to it. It looks like I should have done a better job on the hem, ooops! It’s TTS; I have the small.

#2. Caslon Colorblock Sweater

This sweater is cozy and comfy, and it has a relaxed fit without being schlumpy. It holds its shape well too.

It comes in a bunch of other solid colors as well as a few color block patterns, and it’s true to size.

Drumroll, please! 🥁  First place goes to . . .

#1. Yidarton Leopard Print Top

This is the t-shirt I found as a budget alternative to the popular ATM cheetah print tee from the #NSale (#8 in this list). It’s true to size; I’m wearing the small.

It seems to be pretty good quality, and I really like the print. I guess a lot of you liked it too, because it sold like hotcakes this month.

And that’s a wrap! Which posts from September were your favorites, and did you score any of these Top 10 products?

I love getting feedback from you all when you purchase from my site. It’s good to know what resonates, and I always want to be sure my recommendations are spot-on. It makes me so happy to hear when you’re pleased with a purchase; and of course if you aren’t, that’s helpful to know too.

  1. I hate that you got out of the house with Caroline & then the test was canceled. I’m ok with changes, but not so Ok with no communication. Good grief.

But I hope your day goes up from here.

I think one thing about fashion is that styles should be flattering. This your skinny jeans. Honestly I can look at your outfit for direction but chose to style it all the same but a different flare to the pants/jeans.  I’m always amazed at folks who can’t figure that out. Lol

I had an appointment last week with my surgeon who did the knee replacement. He told me I was 4-6 weeks ahead of schedule, walking great & unless problems arise I’ll only have one more appointment with him. Wow!  I knew I was doing good – but didn’t know how good. The physical therapy paid off – all that pain & challenge was well worth it.

You have a great rest of the weekend. I’m planning to!!

  2. I ordered the Gap Easy sweater because of your recommendation but I haven’t worn it. The bold, pretty colors make me smile. You know what would be a good post, Jo-Lynne, how to style tops with the olive cropped pants. I would like that because I have a pair of them. Thanks for sharing with us!

  3. My fav outfit#3. I was able to purchase the rust top from Zappos; already had the white jeans and jean jacket to complete. Thanks for the idea.

  4. My niece just flew to Texas to take the SAT since they kept cancelling at home in CA. A lot of her friends were traveling to Utah and Arizona to do the same. Crazy times.

So glad you posted the BR cowl neck back in stock and on sale. I have been wanting that one since you first posted it. Perfect under a blazer for CA Fall.

    1. Oh my gosh, that is crazy! Thank goodness my kids are past that stage but it seems ridiculous to not be able to take SATs spaced several seats apart and just have more of them. These certainly are strange times!

    2. That is insane! We are ditching it. I’m not playing this game, and colleges aren’t even requiring them this year.

Glad you snapped up that BR top. It’s so cute on.

  5. Jolynne, , would you please consider taking some pictures of your closet and posting them? I would like to see how you organize it.

    Thanks!!

  6. That dress-beautiful on you, Jo-Lynne
and it looks comfortable as well.
Hey can I get first dibs on your denim jacket if you replace it? 😃 !

  7. I just grabbed the Caslon color block sweater when it went on sale. No color block options were left but I ordered the rust and grey heather and love them. They are thicker than I expected and so soft. Thanks for the heads up on the sale!

  8. My Caslon v-neck striped slub sweater came today and I love it!  Although, it seems more pink than red, it is still a pretty color.  I’m so glad you posted that one!  It is a perfect weight to wear right now and will be great under a jacket later on.

  9. My favorite Top 10 Post was # 10 and the #1 item was the Leopard Print Top.
I liked your white shoes in the #10 Post as opposed to the other dark slip ons.
We are having very warm days here and the idea that I could wear white sandals and a
white T-Shirt looks “cool ” Pun intended!

  10. I bought the #1 pick! I hope you got the benefit. I read your blog every day, sometimes comment but rarely purchase. Not that I don’t like anything, I just don’t buy that much. So I’m excited that I actually bought the most popular item! (And I really like the shirt!)

  11. Oh my goodness! I ordered the caslin sweater too! Two purchases in the sane week…that’s a first for me!😊
