Trunk Club Unboxing + Try On Haul

Greetings, friends, and happy hump day! Today I don’t have one new outfit for you… I have approximately 30. (Yes, I counted!)

I decided to go ahead and share a try on haul as part of my 25 Days of Summer Fashion because… well, why not? These are still complete outfits, just mirror selfies rather than professional pictures, and I think most probably prefer those anyway.

I’ve been saving up try-on pix for a while, so grab a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, a can of soda… whatever floats your boat, because this post is a doozie!

Trunk Club Unboxing + Try On Haul

You know the drill… I order a lot of clothing to vet for the blog, and much of it goes back. Some things don’t work for me, but it might work for you, so I share my hits and misses.

For size reference, I’m 5’5″ and about 140# at the moment. I tend to run between sizes a lot — maybe most of us do — but I find this happens more when I’m up 5 lbs from my ideal weight (which I am now… hello, summer!)

All that to say, I typically wear a small or medium in tops, 6 or 8 (28 or 29) in shorts and pants, and a size 8 in dresses. I’ve got more of an hourglass figure, so I look best in structured pieces, but I try to mention how items might flatter other body types when I can.

Let’s get started! All links and descriptions are below the pictures.

Trunk Club Unboxing

I received a box from my Trunk Club subscription last week, and it was an interesting selection… more of a spring box than a summer box, but I did like most of what my stylist picked for me.

Seychelles Mint Condition Slide Sandals (size 8) // These are incredibly comfortable, the straps are a suuuuuper soft leather. I love the asymmetrical styling and I just think they’re fun and different. I did stick with my usual 8 in these, so I’d say they run TTS.

also wearing: Mother Looker ankle skinny jeans (size 29) with J.Crew tie front tank top (size S) and CORE life hooded open-front cardigan (size S)

Caslon Henley Tee (size M) // This tee is a nice quality, medium-weight knit. It’s soft and feels good on. I like the henley styling and that it’s not too low-cut. It also has longer sleeves than some tees — so if you’re not a big fan of your upper arms, you might like this top.

My stylist sent me a medium, which is a size larger than I typically wear in the Caslon brand, but I think it’s the right size. Because it’s a stretchy knit that is fairly form-fitting, I wouldn’t want it any tighter.

I don’t love the shirttail hemline but otherwise, it’s really cute. It comes in a TON of colors (and some stripes) and retails for $29, which is very reasonable for the quality.

Kut from the Kloth Gidget cutoff shorts (size 8) // These shorts are thick and stretchy and very comfortable, and they have a 4″ inseam, which is a nice length for most women. They’re TTS or size up if in between.

Nine West Gianna slides (size 7.5) // I love these slides so much I have them in both camel and white, although I find myself wearing the camel more. The quality is really nice for the price point, and I love the details. You may want to size down half, especially if you have flat or narrow feet. I often size down half in slides.

Caslon Cinch Waist Utility Jacket (size S) // I really like this jacket, and the black-white crossdye is a welcome change from the typical olive green utility jacket. It’s a nice mid-weight, definitely more of a spring or fall jacket than a summer one. This jacket runs TTS (true to size), or size down if in between.

also wearing: J.Crew Vintage cotton V-neck T-shirt (size M) with Paige Verdugo ankle skinnies (size 30; size up) and Nine West Gianna slides (size 7.5; size down half if you have flat feet)

Caslon Hoodie Pullover with Mother Looker ankle skinny jeans and Veja Esplar sneakers

Caslon Hoodie Pullover (size S) // I love this hoodie. The mélange knit is sort of a sweatshirt material, and I like the texture a lot. It’s light enough to wear with shorts on a cool summer night, but also warm enough to wear with jeans this fall, and it’s priced at just under $50. It’s true to size for Caslon, the small fits me perfectly.

Mother Looker ankle skinny jeans (size 29) // I still love these jeans, and I do believe they’ve replaced my beloved AG legging ankle jeans as my go-to casual distressed jeans.

I can’t believe I’m even saying that, and I still have both, but I prefer the 9.25″ rise and 27.5″ inseam of these Mother jeans over the AG’s 8.25″ rise and 28″ inseam. These rarely go on sale, although I did snag mine for 25% off, so I will keep an eye out for you!

Veja Esplar sneakers (size 39/8) // Also still loving these kicks and happy with my decision after reviewing over 10 pairs of sneakers earlier this spring. They broke in fairly easily, although I still don’t lace them into the last holes. This exact style is hard to find, but there are some sizes at Bloomies, Nordstrom, and Need Supply Co.

Caslon Linen Blend Boyfriend Blazer with Mother Looker ankle skinny jeans (size 29) and Veja Esplar sneakers

Caslon Linen Blend Boyfriend Blazer with Mother Looker ankle skinny jeans (size 29) and Veja Esplar sneakers

Caslon Linen Blend Boyfriend Blazer (size S) // This jacket is also really cute on, but the boyfriend blazer really isn’t my style.

If camo isn’t your thing, it comes in other colors — some solids and some stripes. The white and flax are really nice neutrals if you need work wear, and of course they can be worn casually as well — as shown here. It’s TTS, or size down if in between.

also wearing: J.Crew Vintage cotton V-neck T-shirt (size M) with Mother Looker ankle skinny jeans (size 29) and Veja Esplar sneakers (size 39/8)

Bobeau Side Tie Tee (size S) // This was my favorite piece in the whole box, and it’s definitely a keeper. I’m loving tie-front tops this season, and I love how this tie is on the side. It comes in 7 colors, but it’s just a tad see-through, so go with a darker color if you’re concerned about that.

also wearing: Joe’s Jeans Bermuda frayed cuff denim shorts (size 29) with Lucky Brand Garston espadrille sandals (size 8.5)

Madewell The Addie High-Heel Mule (also at Nordstrom; size 7.5) // I kept both pairs of shoes that came in this trunk. I’m loving the bombé straps on these mules, and the 2 1/2″ block heel gives you a nice lift while still being super walkable. The tan color is a great neutral, and they also come in a multi-color style.

These shoes are great for narrow feet — most mules are too big for me, but these are perfect. You may want to size down half; I typically wear a size 8 in sandals, but sometimes a 7.5 in slides, and these are the 7.5.

GOOD AMERICAN Good Curve Straight Leg Jeans (size 6) // Okay, I’m just not quite sure what to say about these. First of all, it’s hard to photograph black jeans. I tried to lighten up the shadows so you can see the details, but that makes the seams look odd.

I like how these fit, but I don’t think they’re flattering on me… if that makes any sense. They look more like a kick flare than a straight leg on me, and I think they’re also a little too long… or too short, depending on what you’re going for. This 29″ inseam just doesn’t work for me in a straight or flare jean, though.

also wearing: Madewell Whisper Cotton Crewneck Muscle Tank (medium) with Tory Burch Ines Slides (size 8)

I tried them on with another top and shoe combo, just to see if I like them any better… and I don’t. This still may not be a good top and shoe combo, but if I have to work this hard to figure out how to wear them, I’d rather pass.

also wearing: LOFT Striped Ribbed Raglan Tee (size M) with Nine West Gianna Slides (size 7.5)

Try On Haul: LOFT

Okay, moving on to LOFT try-ons. Right now (as of Saturday, 6/22/19), they’re running a 50% off sale on select full-price summer items, and 40% off almost everything else!

LOFT Geometric Bow Back Vintage Soft Tank

LOFT Geometric Bow Back Vintage Soft Tank (size S) // Love the detail on this top, but the color doesn’t do much for me. I thought it would be a bolder shade of coral. I’m sure it would be cute on someone, though, and it’s included in the 50% off sale!

For size reference, I’m wearing a small, but it’s a little snug through the chest area. I’d recommend sizing up to allow for shrinkage, especially if you have a larger chest.

also wearing: Kut from the Kloth Gidget cutoff shorts (size 8)  with Nine West Gianna slides (size 7.5)

LOFT Striped Roll Cuff Girlfriend Chinos (size 6) // I think these pant are so fun! They’re just such a fresh and summery look, and lightweight enough to be an alternative to shorts for those of you who don’t like to show your legs.

Unfortunately they’re selling out fast, so grab them if you want them. They run TTS, or size down if in between. They’re 40% off right now!

also wearing: J.Crew Vintage cotton V-neck T-shirt (size M) with Tory Burch Miller sandals (size 8)

LOFT Ikat Cotton Linen Drawstring Shorts (size S) // These shorts are another fun, summery item from LOFT, and they just went 40% off. I love that they have external rear pockets, as most drawstring shorts do not.

also wearing: J.Crew Vintage cotton V-neck T-shirt (size M) and Treasure & Bond Miles Slide Sandals (size 7.5; on sale for $39!)

LOFT Star Vintage Soft Tank (size S) // This top could be worn anytime, but wouldn’t it be perfect for the 4th of July??? It is more of a swing top, which is not the most flattering on me, but I know a lot of you like that style.

On the plus side, the material is not see-through, and it’s very comfortable. It’s also 50% off!

also wearing: Joe’s Jeans Bermuda frayed cuff denim shorts (size 29) with Lucky Brand Garston espadrille sandals (size 8.5; size up!)

LOFT Striped Hoodie (size S) // I love this hoodie… it’s very similar to the Caslon one above, but since I’m a sucker for stripes, I kept this one instead.

I will wear it exactly as shown here… with jean shorts and sneakers, or perhaps my Miller sandals. This pullover is also 50% off!

also wearing: Joe’s denim shorts and Veja Esplar sneakers

LOFT Striped Ribbed Raglan Tee (size M) // This top is the same as the pastel one I featured in Monday’s post, and both are currently 50% off.

I sized up to a medium since the ribbed material makes it a little more clingy than some of my other tops, but I could get away with the small, so I’ll say it’s TTS. The neckline and sleeves are super flattering.

also wearing: Paige Verdugo ankle skinnies (size 30) with Sam Edelman Regis slides (size 7.5)

LOFT Ikat Tie Hem Button Back Top (size S) // I like the front of this top better than the back, but the back is kind of fun, I guess. I would definitely recommend sizing up in this one; the small is rather tight on me. It’s also 40% off.

also wearing: Kut from the Kloth Gidget cutoff shorts (size 8) with Tory Burch Miller sandals (size 8)

Try On Haul: Boden

Boden is running a big summer sale, with savings up to 50% off. All of these pieces are included. Click through to see the sale prices.

Boden Polly Jersey Midi Dress (size 8R) // I have this dress in the floral print, and I liked the fit but not so much the print, so I ordered it again in the black.

There’s something about the neckline/chest/sleeves of this black one that I don’t love, and I’m not sure why I didn’t notice it in the print. I’m not sure if it’s that the print distracts from this issue, or it just fits differently.

It’s a really nice quality dress, though, and flattering otherwise. I’d definitely recommend trying it if you like it.

Boden Cressida Jersey Dress in Ivory (size 8L) // I ordered the long length in this dress because I was afraid the regular would be too short on me, and I do like the extra length, but overall it’s not very flattering on me. The pintucks and lace trim across the chest area draw undue attention, and it bulges out over the belly where the pleats are.

I think this dress would look nice on a woman who is smaller on top — especially those with a pear shape. It’s true to size for Boden; the 8 is the right size. Also, it comes in navy as well as the ivory I’m wearing.

also wearing: Madewell The Addie High-Heel Mules (although I would not wear these shoes with this dress…)

Delphine Jersey Maxi Dress – Red Pop Jungle Vine (size 8R) // Yes, another Boden dress. I’m obsessed! I ordered all these during their 30% off dress sale, although none are on sale at the moment, unfortunately.

This dress is so pretty, and I love the print. It also comes in 3 other colors/prints, if this is too bold for your liking. It’s TTS for Boden; the 8 fits me perfectly.

Dolce Vita Noor Sandals (size 8) // Love, love, LOVE these sandals. They are so comfortable, and I think the stitching along the footbed is such a fun detail. The leather strap across the foot is soft and comfortable as well.

They are quite high, though — they have a 4″ heel with a 3/4″ platform, so that’s like walking in a 3 1/4″ heel. Definitely wearable for many of us, but if you have a hard time with heels, these aren’t for you.

Boden Frill Jersey Tank – Red Pop (size 8) // This top doesn’t flatter me, but I think it would look good on someone — again, probably a woman who is smaller on top. It also is kind of boxy and long, so take that into consideration.

I really like the details and quality of fabric — the bobble detailing and ruffle neck is very pretty. It comes in other colors too.

also wearing: Joe’s Jeans Bermuda frayed cuff denim shorts with Lucky Brand Garston espadrille sandals

Try Ons: Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor Eyelet Ruffle Doubleweave Sheath Dress // I had high hopes for this dress, as I typically love a sheath and Ann Taylor does such a good quality dress, but this one misses the mark. It’s cut too straight the waist area, and the armholes are too big and show my bra, which is a major pet peeve — especially in a classic style like this. I’m sure it would be cute on someone, but I’m not sure who to recommend it to.

For size reference, I ordered both the 6 and the 8, and I’m wearing the 8 in the top picture and the 6 in the bottom one. The 6 was a better fit, so I’d say it’s TTS or size down if in between.

Ann Taylor Floral Tie Front Midi Dress (size 6) // I was thinking of wearing this dress to a wedding I have next weekend. It’s really pretty on, and I love the navy and marigold combo. Plus it looks great with yellow shoes, although I’m not sure I’d wear these mules for the wedding. Definitely size down in this. I’m actually thinking of trying it in the 4.

also wearing: Steve Madden Esmeralda Slide Sandals (size 7.5)

Ann Taylor Matte Jersey Shoulder Tie Flare Dress (size S) // This one does not fit well over my chest, unfortunately, because otherwise I like it.

The quality is lovely, and I do appreciate that it has a snap to hold the wrap front closed. Unfortunately, on me, it’s barely hanging on for dear life, haha! The shoulder ties are a fun detail, and I like the midi length for a change.

also wearing: Madewell The Addie High-Heel Mules (size 7.5)

Try Ons: J.Crew Factory

J.Crew Factory V-neck button-front dress (size 8) // Cute dress, but pulls across the chest and gapes in the armholes. Yet again, this would look better on someone smaller on top.

You can see why I rarely wear dresses. It gets frustrating to find so many cute ones that just don’t fit my chest. Sizing up and then having the whole dress altered is an option, but I’m not willing to go to the trouble and expense unless it’s something I love and plan to own for years.

I don’t really need any new dresses right now — I have enough that do fit well, and I just don’t wear them that often, so these are all going back.

also wearing: Steve Madden Esmeralda Slide Sandals (size 7.5)

J.Crew Factory Tie-front tank top (size S) // Okay, now this I like. I’ve kept it and I’m considering ordering other colors. I think this top may be a good solution for wearing with skirts that need a more fitted top, especially since I prefer not to tuck in my tops.

I’m wearing the small, but I do wonder if shrinkage will be an issue when it’s washed. I find that tie-front tops look best when they’re slightly snug, or they tend to bulge over the belly area, so I kept the small, but I’m going to wash it before I order any more. I’ll keep you posted.

also wearing: Joe’s Jeans Bermuda frayed cuff denim shorts (size 29) with Lucky Brand Garston espadrille sandals (size 8.5; size up half!)

Amazon Fashion Haul

Daily Ritual Women’s Lived-in Cotton Short-Sleeve Crewneck Maxi Dress (size S) // This dress is cute, but not very forgiving if you have any lumps and bumps. I’m sucking in my gut for all its worth, haha!

I don’t know that sizing up would help — it’s already plenty long in overall length and also under the arms, so I don’t think I’d like the medium on me. The quality seems decent, though, and it’s not see-through. It comes in lots of colors too.

also wearing: Seychelles Mint Condition Slide Sandals (size 8)

Daily Ritual Women’s Jersey Short-Sleeve Boat Neck Shirt (size S) // I’m really pleased with the quality of Amazon’s Daily Ritual brand. This top has a nice, silky feel and good drape. I also like the boatneck and dolman sleeves. It’s just a nice elevated tee, perfect for pairing with anything from jeans to shorts, and skirts to dress pants.

also wearing: Kut from the Kloth Gidget cutoff shorts (size 8) with Nine West Gianna slides (size 7.5)

Daily Ritual Women’s Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans (size 29/8 R) // These jeans are just okay for me. They fit nicely, although verrrry snug for a size 29/8. They have a nice, deep indigo wash — these are the Blue Overdyed. They length is good, and the fit is on point, but they’re not that comfortable. Still, for the price, not a bad deal.

also wearing: Madewell Whisper Cotton Crewneck Muscle Tank (medium) with Seychelles Mint Condition Slide Sandals (size 8)

Try Ons: Revolve, Target, Express, & Nordstrom

Sanctuary Sundrenched Ticking Stripe Shirtdress (also at Macy’s; size S) // This dress is cute, but way too short for me. I like the idea of it — the ticking stripes, the v-neck, and the shape of the sleeves. It’s cute; I just wish it were longer. If you’re petite, you may like it.

also wearing: Tory Burch Ines Slides (size 8)

Universal Thread Women's High-Rise Double Cuff Bermuda Jean Shorts with Universal Thread Blue Stripe Collared Button Down Shirt

Universal Thread Women's High-Rise Double Cuff Bermuda Jean Shorts with Universal Thread Blue Stripe Collared Button Down Shirt

Universal Thread Women’s High-Rise Double Cuff Bermuda Jean Shorts (size 6) // These jeans shorts are pretty good. I have to say, I’m impressed. I like the fit and the wash a lot.

They’re very snug, so I’d like to try the 8, but it could be that these stretch out some with wear and are the right size.

Universal Thread Blue Stripe Collared Button Down Shirt (size S) // I’m generally not a fan of collared shirts, but this one caught my eye when shopping in the store, and I couldn’t resist bringing it home with me. It is soooo soft, and has a really good drape. I like how the model on the website has it knotted in front — I’m going to try that.

also wearing: Seychelles Mint Condition Slide Sandals (size 8)

Universal Thread High Rise Skinny Jeans (size 8) // These are cute jeans, and they fit well, but they’re verrrry high rise, just be aware. They’re a little roomy, so I think I could probably size down to the 6. They also come in pink.

also wearing: J.Crew Tie Front Tank (size M) with Seychelles Mint Condition Slide Sandals (size 8)

Ali & Jay Sleeveless Slim Leg Asymmetrical Jumpsuit (size M) // This jumpsuit is interesting and different. I think the asymmetrical detail on the front is really fun, and it has a way of disguising extra volume in the belly area. I also like the tapered leg as opposed to the wide-legged jumpsuits that are so popular right now.

Unfortunately, it’s a little low-cut for me personally, but it still looks good on. It just depends on the size of your chest and your personal comfort level. The medium is a good fit for me, so I recommend sizing up if in between.

Express Heathered Off The Shoulder Lounge Drawstring Jumpsuit // If anything is going to make me a jumpsuit convert, it is this one. It is so so so so so soft. I can’t help but feel I’m too old or too something to pull this off, but I’m tempted to keep it just to wear around the house.

I tried the small and medium (wearing the small in the top picture and the medium in the two bottom pix) and I’m not sure which way I should go — probably the medium, so I can throw it in the dryer without worrying about it.

also wearing: Seychelles Mint Condition Slide Sandals (size 8)

Okay, so that’s a wrap. WHEW!!!

I hope I gave all the sizing info I needed to, but of course I’m happy to answer any of your questions in the comments.

  1. Love this post. We are very close in height and weight. Are you willing to share your bra size? I would  like to know because as a DDD it would be helpful to know for reference for your tops. By the way, you look great in everything!

      1. Thanks!  You are so much narrower than me on top. I’m a 36 or 38 DDD. My height and weight is almost identical but I’m very broad in the back. Not my booty though. Lost that completely when I lost 70 pounds to get to this weight!

  2. I like both those hoodies.  I’m much shorter than you-5 ft and short waisted also.  Since neither of them come in petites, does one run a little shorter in overall and sleeve length.  Do you think either of them would work?  I’m usually a 6 petite or small petite.

    1. It’s hard to say, since I already sent back my Trunk with the Caslon one. The length looks very similar in my pictures, but on the website, the Caslon one says it’s 27 1/2″ long and the Loft one says it’s 25 1/2″ long. So maybe go with Loft? But wait for a sale… it will be on sale again soon, I am sure!

  3. Epic try-on post! Thanks for including the Boden items. I’ve been tempted to order from them, – it helps to see the clothes on a “real” person.

  4. You must be exhausted!  Haha….but that was awesome!

So much to love here….but that jumpsuit at the end looks fabulous on you!!!  As an older-than-you who asks myself the same questions, I promise that you’re not too anything for it, except too perfect.  I picked up a similar one (sleeveless with tie shoulders) from the loungewear section at Target.  I assume it’s the same fabric…soooo comfy.

I am definitely going to check out yours…so you see, if it’s “too” anything for you, it rules me out completely!

    1. Thank you… I am so tempted to keep it. I love the neckline, and it’s more flattering overall than I expected. But the material… that was the clincher. The second I felt it when I pulled it out of the box, I was done for! I may never wear it out of the house, but it’s kind of cute for wearing around on days I’m not going anywhere… which are many!

  5. Love your tag, “Make this a great day”.. coincidentally on a day that I was fussing about someone else ruining my day lol.. I am gonna call it a “God thing ” and then go look at that last jumpsuit you showed😉😊.. it looks like it would be a lot of fun to style and be super comfy at the same time.
    Awesome post.

  6. O.M.Goodness!   I’m sweating just looking at all the clothing you tried on!   Excellent job highlighting all the pieces you’ve shown.  I’m liking the Caslon utility jacket. The color is so different.  I could see getting some use out of it with this weather we’re having!  Did you end up keeping the heather gray jumpsuit?   It looks like such a comfy piece to wear around the house!  Thank you again, for taking one for the team with that try on haul!

  7. Boy, you have tried on a lot of clothes.  The aqua Calson top is a great color for me, so it just might find a way into my closet.  I’m with you on not wanting my bra to show, especially when wearing a nice dress.  I’m still skeptical about ordering clothes from Amazon, so I appreciate you sharing the brands that you’ve tried, along with your verdict.  I like the black side tie top, but I prefer no see thru!  Have a great day!

    1. The black isn’t see-through, but I do need a black bra wit it. 🙂 I can see you in that Caslon top – I think you’d like it! And yeah, Amazon is really hit or miss. I like their Daily Ritual brand, and I’ve been sticking to that one lately. And then they carry some name brands too, of course.

  8. Love this post! You look amazing in everything. Really love that color blue of the caslon henley…Like some other posts on here, I am petite 5 ft so with some of these longer dresses they would have to come in a petite otherwise they look ridiculous on me. I do find that the Loft petite dresses work really well for me. I have also tried the Nordstrom Trunk twice and my stylist just came seem to get anything right…you had some wonderful pieces in yours. Thanks again for this great post.

  9. How about a water? I’m on the treadmill 😉 Like everything, but love the floral maxi dress and the fitted jumpsuit!!!!

      1. Jo-Lynne, I love stripes too! I was in J Crew yesterday, wearing a striped top and buying striped shorts. The checkout girl told me Friday is National Stripe Day! How knew😆

  10. That Boden Delphine maxi is striking on you! Loved this post – I’m taller than you are by a few inches with a longer torso but wear a solid 8, so it’s nice to see where hemlines and waistlines fall in your try-on sessions. thanks for sharing!

  11. These are my favorite of your posts. I am thinking of ordering the Loft striped pant. It has caught my eye before, but after seeing it on you, I think I will try it. It’s the pesky shipping fee, though. If I wait until they offer free shipping, it will probably be sold out. But if I order and it doesn’t fit, I have to pay to ship it back, too. But half my wardrobe is Loft, so I will probably go ahead and get them. Thanks for always taking one for the team, with all your try ons. It’s so helpful.  And you look great in so many of them!

  12. I follow a healthy handful (or two) of fashion bloggers and you clearly put in the most time! I understand bloggers need to have sponsored posts (among other ways to earn), but one cannot possibly L-O-V-E everything received for free. I appreciate your level of detail and honest opinions. Thank you for all the time you put into this and for being a trustworthy and relatable source of fashion inspiration!

    1. PS…I know the red Ann Taylor dress was a miss for you and I can see the potential armhole issue….BUT, you look fabulous in the size 6!!

    2. Thanks, Ashley. Although I will say that most of the time, bloggers get to choose the items we feature in sponsored posts, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility to like them all. 🙂 But I know what you mean. That is why I like to show some misses too, because no one likes everything they order. 🙂

  13. Would you mind sharing the name of your stylist with Trunk Club? I have been using their service for many years but recently have had my stylist switched several times and still haven’t found a good fit yet to replace my previous stylist. The styles you showcased here almost match my style perfectly. Thank you!

  14. I really like these try on hauls! I’m glad you show items that don’t fit great also as it helps me understand my fit issues a little more. I’m about the same age, but you are more daring than I am (no shorts and no tank tops). Ironically I can’t find dresses that fit either–I’m petite with a size smaller on top that bottom, as well as super small on top (XXS with narrow shoulders and AA cup). I have the most luck with Loft curvy sizes but those are still hit or miss and skirts and dresses don’t come in curvy. Dresses don’t work unless I get them altered on top, which means I have to REALLY like the dress to go to that much effort. When you style an item, it usually looks better than the web site it’s posted on. I will think something you are wearing is cute, but on the model it’s bland (coloring, lighting, model too skinny?)

  15. I hope you kept that red & white Boden dress…it was so pretty on you! Thank you for this…I’m sure it took a lot of time 🙂

  16. Ok – so the very first top – the blue one looks AWESOME on you – that color is so perfect. The last off the shoulder style jumpsuit is way cool too….I’ll be 52 in July and i would wear this. Maybe not “out” but def around the house or on vacation.

  17. I struggle with dresses also. We are similar size and shape and I recently bought a wrap dress from j crew that worked for me. I ended up with a medium petite even though I am not normally a petite size. The medium covered “the girls” and the petite kept the torso from being too long-I am short waisted as well. It is a midi, so length wasn’t an issue in the petite.

  18. Some great looks here! Thanks so much for sharing and putting in so much detail. Did you find the white Boden dress see through? The reviews on the site all mention the fabric being very see through. thanks!

  19. I love your try-on Posts, and this one is EPIC!  Everything is beautiful on you, and I will be shopping some tops.  I love your expressions when you’re taking a selfie of something you’re not “sure” about.  Too cute!!

  20. I love that navy and yellow dress! It is pretty awesome, as are some of the tie front tops. A lot of great finds! Thanks for sharing and for all your hard work! 🙂 I also really love the camo blazer and am going to see if I can find something similar here in Canada.

  21. Jolynne you look Great in everything you tried on. Especially in the bold colors. Your best color is the Orange. So pretty on you. Love the Try On Hauls. Keep them coming. Have a Great Rest of the Week!! —-Linda

  22. Oh my, Jo-Lynne! So many pretty clothes and shoes!! I ordered the Seychelles Mint Condition sandals in the light gold. They look  comfy and different, and after seeing them on you I had to order them.  I also ordered a couple of the tie front tanks from the J.Crew factory.  It helps so much when you do these try on sessions.
I’m still going through this post, as there are a few other items on my list that I plan on ordering.  So, again, thank you for this very helpful post.
I think you look wonderful in all of the things you tried on, but my faves are the red maxi dress, the navy jumpsuit, all the shorts, and that grey jumpsuit at the end looks perfect on you! I don’t think it looks too young on you at all!
I know this is a very long message, but I really loved this post!!

  23. Phew! This try on sesh is great! I appreciate your hard work and efforts! Your blog is like visiting with a real friend! Love the concept of Trunk Club through Nordstrom alas they do not deliver to Canada, only within USA. Drats and bah humbug!😕

  24. I love the navy floral dress and the Ali and Jay navy jumpsuit on you!  It looks like they were made for you.
    Great try on session!

  25. What a great post! Thank you for doing all this work!!! So many things look great on you and I always appreciate your honest opinions.

  26. Wow what a haul lol… I’m going to say my favorites are the stripe hoodie ( I’m a sucker for stripes too) and I love the light grey jumpsuit.. it looks really comfy and would be cute running errands even with dare I say white converse and denim jacket . Could be a great transitional piece.. the tie tops are cute too saves guessing what to do with the front .. thanks for a  bunch of outfit ideas…

  27. So many cute things!  Love these try-on hauls with the hits and your misses.  Thanks for being so real.  I particularly loved that first Caslon jacket and I actually just ordered the Universal Threads jeans in pink.  I’ve tried on and returned several pairs of pink jeans and hopefully these will be the ones I keep!

  28. So many cute things!! I LOVE that Caslon s/s baby button t. I’m usually not a fan of the sleeve length, but it’s so cute on you I might try it. It actually looks way better on you than the Nordy’s model! I actually almost bought the lavender in the store one time, but I like the blue much better, esp after seeing it on you!

I also love the Caslon hoodie! I’ve been looking for a hoodie and it looks like it could be perfect. Do you feel like that one would be too long to wear with shorts? (I wear the same length as you.) There’s another Caslon hoodie that’s a bit shorter but the navy is a bit more practical…and would be super cute with white jeans! Thanks for a fab post! You must have been exhausted when you were done trying!
