Try-On Haul: Trunk Club, LOFT, Nordstrom, Amazon & More

Well, friends. It’s Friday, and we’ve made it through another week! Four down, ??? to go…

Meanwhile, I have a new Try-On Haul for you. Hopefully this gives you a light diversion from whatever heaviness you may be feeling today.

I got a Trunk Club delivery last week, which was full of athleisure and loungewear, and I also received a small LOFT order and a few other odds and ends from Amazon and Nordstrom.

I tried to create complete outfits with most of these pieces, so even if you aren’t shopping right now, hopefully you’ll find some comfy #stayathome outfit inspiration in here as well.

Try-On Haul: Trunk Club Unboxing

For size reference, I’m 5’5″ and around 135 with a slight hourglass shape. My typical sizes are small in tops, 6 or 28 in pants and jeans, and 8 in dresses.

My Trunk Club stylist sent me a bunch of activewear and loungewear for sheltering at home. I had to laugh when I opened the box because so much of what she sent is similar to what I’ve been ordering for myself lately.

I love how she sent me total outfits — it makes it so much easier to imagine how the pieces will work in my wardrobe, even if I didn’t keep every outfit in its entirety. I did some mixing and matching, so there is some overlap in my items below.

I hope it doesn’t get too confusing, but I also really like how she sent pieces that not only make complete outfits, but that I can mix and match.

Sweaty Betty Ab Crunch Tee (size S) // This top is breathable and very comfortable, but it’s too see-through for my comfort level. It has cute details, but it still seems awfully expensive for what it is.

VERDICT: returning

Sweaty Betty Jacquard Workout Leggings (size S; 25% off) // I love the jacquard pattern on these, and I wanted to love them, but I kept getting distracted by the contrasting seams up the middle of the front and back.

Am I the only one? This is why I always wear black leggings.

Otherwise, they’re adorable, great quality, and very comfortable. They’re also on sale! If they don’t have your size at Nordstrom, there are more sizes at Sweaty Betty, and they’re 25% off when you add to cart.

VERDICT: returning

Alo Freestyle Mock Neck Sweatshirt (size S) // This sweatshirt is amazingly soft on the inside, and I think this muted lemon color is really fun for a change.

I like the fun details like the raw edges and the cool neckline, and it’s just a cozy, fun piece to throw on with joggers or leggings, or even jeans for casual wear.

VERDICT: Undecided; if it were on sale it would be a no brainer, but it’s pricey for a sweatshirt to bum around in.

Alo High Waist Moto 7/8 Leggings (size S) // These are so fun and trendy, and I love how they look on. They also do not crease in a funky way at all in the crotch area, like so many leggings do. They’re really good quality and so cute.

Unfortunately, they’re kind of itchy inside, so I’m on the fence about keeping them since I have so many leggings right now that are more comfortable than these.

VERDICT: Undecided

Sweaty Betty Fast Track Quilted Running Jacket (size S) // This piece is really interesting, and I would definitely keep it if it were going to be cold here for a while longer.

I love the chevron-quilted body and fitted long sleeves with reflective cuff details. The under layer is very snug, so it doesn’t allow any air through when you’re running, but the over layer is cropped and gives it a really cute shape. Very fun piece!

VERDICT: Reluctantly returning; I just don’t need it right now, and I can’t think about buying ahead for next fall, especially at full price. It will be here soon enough.

Adidas Edge Lux 3 Running Shoe (size 7.5; need an 8) // Now, these I love. They’re very soft and cushioned inside, and they have a good amount of arch support. I love the white and gold combo, and they’re lightweight on the foot too.

I don’t have anything quite like this, and they’ll be great for walking the neighborhood this spring and summer.

VERDICT: Exchanging for a size 8

Honeydew Intimates Easy Rider Sweatshirt and Sweatpants (castaway, size M) // I love these, they are so soft and comfy. The raw edge v-neck is fun, and I like the banded bottoms on the pants. So many of the straight leg ones are too long. (See below.)

Unfortunately, they’re way too big for me, even though I can see why she sent me the medium. This is the size chart: S=0-2, M=4-6, L=8-10, XL=12-14.

VERDICT: Exchanging for small

Try-Ons: Nordstrom

Moonlight V-Neck Long Sleeve Pajama Top with Moonlight Pajama Pants (teal mist, size M) // These are also super soft and comfortable, and they’re a little thinner than the Honeydew pair above. I really like this teal mist color, but the pants are really long.

VERDICT: Undecided

Moonlight V-Neck Long Sleeve Pajama Top with Moonlight Pajama Pants (black, size S) // Because I wasn’t sure about sizes, I also ordered the small. These look better, but they’re a little snug in the belly area, which is annoying. I don’t know about you, but I like my pajamas to have plenty of room.

They’re not binding, though, and the pants and top are plenty long, so I may keep these instead.

VERDICT: Undecided

Boden Robyn Scoop Neck Tee in SPRING (size S) // I already have this top in the navy, but I thought the SPRING graphic was so cute.

I love the neckline and the cut of the sleeves and the cheery spring colors. I just wish it didn’t have that annoying curved hemline. It’s okay with the front-tuck, though.

VERDICT: Keeping.

Rag & Bone Nina High-Rise Ankle Skinny Jeans in Sin City (size 28) // These are super soft and stretchy and comfortable, and I love the length. (I ordered them to have a pair that is shorter — all my other jeans except the lighter Rag & Bone pair interfere with these sneakers.)

Unfortunately, the rear view is a deal breaker. I don’t care for how the pockets sit up so high.

VERDICT: Returning

Madewell Summer Ryder Cardigan in Heather Ocean (size S) // I have this sweater in the light grey, and I like it so much, I thought I’d try this light blue. I feel like it’s a little shorter than my grey one, but maybe I’m imagining things.

I like it, but I don’t feel like it’s as versatile as the grey, so I’m undecided about keeping it. It’s a great price, though — 50% off at Nordstrom!

also wearing: AG The Prima Ankle Cigarette Jeans (size 28; 25% off!) and Tory Burch Howell Court Sneakers

Treasure & Bond Updated Washed Tee (size S) // I absolutely adore this shirt! I love a good tie dye, and this one seems a little more refined than some. It’s also amazingly soft and has a great drape. I also really like the cuffed sleeves and the twisted neckline.

It’s 40% off and only available in limited sizes, but it also comes in a black version that’s cool too, and that one is 33% off and fully stocked.

also wearing: AG Farrah Skinny Ankle Jeans (size 28; 25% off!) with P448 John Sneakers

I also love how this top pairs with these off-black jeans. Unfortunately, they’re really low inventory right now.

Size-wise, this top runs a little big. I could probably size down to an XS, but I’m keeping my small. I’ll throw it in the washer and dryer and hope it takes up a bit.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: Madewell 10″ High-Rise Skinny Crop Jeans in Hartland Wash (TTS) with similar espadrilles

Treasure & Bond Long Sleeve Ringer Tee (size S) // This is another Treasure & Bond tee, and again, the material is soooo soft. This one might be slightly thicker than the tie dye tee above, and it’s really nice for this transition season if you live in a cooler climate as I do.

The fit isn’t as relaxed as the one above; I definitely could not size down in this one, but the small fits fine.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: AG Farrah Skinny Ankle Jeans (size 28; 25% off!) with P448 John Sneakers

Amazon Fashion: Core 10 Joggers

Core 10 Cloud Soft Yoga Fleece Jogger Sweatpants (size S) // I tried these a while back in the medium, and they looked ridiculous, but they were so comfortable, I wanted to try the small.

They’re very soft and stretchy and fleece lined, so incredibly comfortable. I still don’t love the fit, though. They’re too tight in the legs and too long in the crotch. (I hate that word… is there a more delicate term???)

Anyway, I can’t say I love the fit, but they are very comfortable, so worth a try if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option.

VERDICT: returning

also wearing: Vince Camuto denim jacket (size S; 40% off) with BP. crewneck tee (it’s a good one for $15!) and P448 John sneakers

Try-Ons: LOFT

LOFT is doing a buy more, save more sale with 40% off full price styles, 50% off 3 full-price styles, and 60% off 4 or more full-price styles.

It’s not hard to find 4 items at LOFT, and 60% off is an amazing savings. It doesn’t get any better than that until these items hit the clearance rack.

That includes these amazing Lou & Grey sweatpants and their matching sweatshirt. I wore this yesterday, and oh my word, so comfy.

Meanwhile, I got a few more really cute tops in the mail this week!

LOFT Knit Button Down Top (size S) // I really like this top for a change. The knit material is very soft and has a great drape, and the relaxed collar with cap sleeves is more feminine than most button-down blouses.

The black sold out, but it’s also available in a really pretty soft blue/grey color.

also wearing: Madewell 10″ High-Rise Skinny Crop Jeans in Hartland Wash (TTS) with similar espadrilles

I also wanted to show it with white jeans because I love black and white for spring.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: Madewell 10″ High-Rise Skinny Crop Jeans in Pure White (TTS) with Sam Edelman Tesma Slides (TTS; 40% off!)

LOFT Petal Sleeve Mixed Media Top (size S) // Finally, this pretty blue top will be perfect for church or work this summer. If we were going to church for Easter, I would probably be wearing the outfit above. Sadly, it’s almost sold out, but I wanted to share it anyway.

  1. Love that track jacket! It looks really good on you too. Like you said, not great for running but I could see that as an athleisure outfit and great for running around on the weekends and looking put together. I agree with you on the Sweaty Betty patterned capris–very cute but those seams just draw attention to the wrong areas on a woman. Sad, because I think they ruined a great pair of pants.

  2. Looks like you got some cute stuff. I’m just not buying anymore spring items for cooler temps as it will so be summer. I do already own a pair of Adidas Edge Lux sneakers in the black and white and although they are super cute, I don’t think they are as comfortable as my Adidas Ultraboost. So I wear them only for running errands and short walks but not for running or working out. I did like those Sweaty Betty Leggings until you pointed out the black seams and you are absolutely right, it’s a deal breaker.

    1. Yeah, I wouldn’t wear these to run. But I think they’ll be good for walking and for when I want to wear joggers/leggings on casual days. My Nikes are like that. I can’t run or work out in them, but they’re so squishy and comfortable for casual wear. My Nikes are black so it will be fun to have a white pair.

  3. So many cute items!! I started IF in Feb. (down 20, 50 more to go), so I can’t really buy anything right now. But I sure enjoy these posts and can’t wait until I’m at goal and can buy!

      1. Thanks Jo-Lynne – you inspired me! Susan, weekdays I fast 20-22 hours, weekends 18-20. I’m also walking 3 miles a day, but mostly because it makes me feel good to move. I love the delay, don’t deny mentality. Waiting for my window to open this afternoon to decorate sugar cookies with my college-aged daughter!

  4. I always look forward to these try on hauls.  Enjoyed the Loft items. Thank you. Honestly, I cannot handle all the loungewear. Maybe that’s all people are buying/wearing. Every.Where.There’s.Loungewear. 🤦🏼‍♀️ It’s depressing.

    1. I agree about all the loungewear. It is depressing. At home is one thing, but when I see people in public wearing loungewear, pajamas, or just looking sloppy now and pre-coronavirus, I just cringe. I always look forward to the try on hauls, but I’m getting tired of the loungewear. Plus, even though we may not be able to attend church now or going out for dinner, we can still dress up at home this weekend for Easter or any day of the week. I have no problem dressing up to go to the grocery store either during this time. Please start showing more jeans, skirts, dresses, jackets, and fun tops again.

      1. I live in Austria and, even though it’s a rural area with lots of small towns, no one here would dream of leaving their house in loungewear or, heaven forbid, pajamas. I’m always shocked when I travel back to the States to see what some people consider appropriate for wearing outside of their home, and I’m not talking about athleisure wear but actual pajamas. It’s one thing to be comfortable, but there should be some limits.

          1. JoLynne, just to clarify, my comment was most definitely not directed at you but was in response to what a previous post had said about people going out in their pajamas.

  5. Thanks for the try on post. Those are my favorite along with what you wore. What color is the Madewell Summer Ryder Cardigan. Is it really the ocean blue blue color or more of a medium gray? I have the light gray and charcoal, but wasn’t sure on the color of that one. Have a great Friday!

  6. I love tie dye, too, but unfortunately I discovered (after buying one) that red tie dye shirts tend to look a bit like (sorry, no nice way to say it) a bloodbath. My husband kindly pointed that out to me, and now I can’t unsee it. Sorry! I’m all in on other tie dye colors, just not red or dark pink!

  7. I agree with you about the leggings and why many of us wear blacK or darker colored ones. The Sweaty Betty ones with the accent seams in the wrong places, calling attention to parts of our body maybe we don’t want to be high lighted .
I have changed my attitude about workout and casual clothes. I am much more willing to spend more money on these since I wear them more often. I’m glad you are showing some higher quality brands. I like Lululemon but often find them too pricy, same with Sweaty Betty. I guess I need to re-evaluate.
I know you put a lot of work in these posts, so thank you!

    1. Yes, same. I never spent this much on leggings and workout clothes before, but I do wear it a lot, and there’s a big difference in fit and feel. I also think it will last. My girls have the amazon leggings, and they look good, but they do need to be replaced fairly often. My Zella holds up okay but it doesn’t feel as good as the Sweaty Betty and Lulu. I do like Athleta, and those last me forever and feel good. I’m excited to get those Fallon joggers… if they ever come in!

  8. I LOVE the Vuori joggers! I have a black pair I bought last month at the start of our quarantine and wear them practically every other day.
I wanted to buy the LOFT black button down tee you featured above but it’s all sold out! Shoot! That one is totally my style – I have a LOFT sleeveless top very similar to that one that I bought 5 years ago (but still wear because I love the button-down style with a collar). I saw it in gray but I’m not sure it’s as versatile for my wardrobe.
Do you find that the Madewell button front white jeans stretch out with wear? I bought them through your link last month because I thought they were really fun and cute. They looked great when I first put them on and walking around they’re good, but as soon as I sit and stand and sit again and cross my legs and work etc….I stand back up and they look terribly bunched up and the buttons pull in the front not laying flat – I feel like I’d be constantly tugging and pulling them up if I wore them “outside the house” in the real world. Is it just me? They look different on you- not as high in the waist as they literally go way up over my belly button. Thinking I should return them. ☹️

      1. Hmmm….I wonder if it’s because I bought the Tall version? Maybe they’ve added an extra inch to the inseam? They’re really just too long in the torso and too high on my body (which is funny because I’ve always thought I was really long waisted). I tried once more yesterday and the buttons didn’t stay lined up after wearing them around the house and out to the store for an errand (the buttons pulled in opposite directions) and the material is pretty thin and showed bumps. I was feeling it hard to breathe as if I had on a corset around the middle! 😬 I started getting paranoid about having the covid-19 virus. Maybe I’ve gained weight and flab during quarantine?? 🤪 I ordered my regular size 27 in the tall.
They look super cute on YOU! On me I felt a little disheveled and a little self conscious too. So weird huh?
I’m looking for a fresh new pair of white jeans though so keep sharing what you find. This pair will have to go back.

  9. I love all these comfy clothes.  Sadly, most of them won’t fit me as I’m crazy tall.  The joggers and leggings would look like capris!  By the way, you can say “the rise is too long” instead of “they are too long in the crotch.”

  10. Love it all but especially the sweaty betty leggings. But more than I usually pay. We’ll get through this. I am already feeling the end coming. I can’t remember what scripture but it says. Thur far. 1 Samuel 7:12. Just looked it up.

  11. You are looking fantastic, Jo-Lynne!
Heading over to Loft to see what’s left in my size.
    Happy Easter, He is Risen

  12. The washed tee and the Lou grey sweatshirt and joggers are my favorite. I’m beginning to see the difference in quality joggers as compared to cheaper ones. What fabric content do you look for when purchasing joggers or sweatpants so they don’t pill? Also can you provide the link again for accepting parcels during Covid-19. Thank you so much
    Happy Easter

  13. Thanks for sharing all these! I am not much of a leisure wear buyer but am learning that it is nice to have some comfy pieces at  times. I do hear you about the see through white tee as well as the seam that goes up the back and front of the gray leggings.  I am really grateful that you care about things like that and that you don’t have a hard time saying it.
