TRY-ON HAUL // WEEKEND SALE ROUNDUP

Good morning and happy weekend! You guys, the sales are INSANE right now. Unfortunately the Shopbop Spring Sale just ended, but Tory Burch, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, Macy’s, and J.Crew are all having mega store-wide sales right now.

A lot of the offerings overlap, plus some of the sales are scaled based on total purchase amount, so you have to compare to figure out the best place to shop, depending on what you’re looking for and how big your order is. Nordstrom will price match, but only on the lowest sale price on the scaled sales (i.e. Tory Burch.)

I also have more try-ons for you this week, mostly from Loft and Bloomingdale’s, but a few from Nordstrom. All info and descriptions are UNDER the pictures.

LOFT SALE: Full Price Dresses and Skirts for $49.50

Full-price dresses and skirts are marked down to $49.50 this weekend. See all my Loft Favorites in The Shop!

LOFT Garden Tie Waist Dress (size small) // This is a great little dress for Easter or other spring events. The cap sleeves are cut nice and high so they don’t show your bra strap under your arms at all — a rarity these days!

The tie is a little funky, so you have to decide if you like it or hate it, but it’s a fun detail. This dress also comes in plus and petite sizes.

also wearing: Sam Edelman Hazel Pumps

LOFT Tie Neck Maxi Dress (size small) // This maxi dress could be dressed up or down, and it’s also cut fairly high under the arms (yay!) This dress also comes in tall and petite sizes.

also wearing: Steve Madden Excited Espadrille Wedge Sandals

LOFT Button Down Pocket Flare Dress (size 6) // I would like this dress a lot better if the skirt were straight, but it would work well for ladies who love the fit and flare style. This dress also comes in plus, tall, and petite sizes.

also wearing: Steve Madden Excited Espadrille Wedge Sandals

LOFT Floral Wrap Dress (size small) // This is a true wrap style, and it’s is a no-go for me, but it would be nice for ladies who are smaller up top. It totally gapes open on me, and no amount of fashion tape would hold this baby in place. I do like the print a lot, though. This dress also comes in plus, tall, and petite sizes.

also wearing: Sam Edelman Hazel Pumps

LOFT Drapey Utility Jumpsuit (size small) // I had high hopes for this jumpsuit, but alas… it isn’t made for my short-waisted figure. It could maybe be tailored… but anyway, if you’re taller than my 5’5″ or if you’re long waisted, this might work for you. I love the styling, and I think someone should definitely snap it up. It’s also on sale for $49.50!

also wearing: Steve Madden Excited Espadrille Wedge Sandals

Bloomingdale’s Friends & Family Sale

FRIENDS & FAMILY: Take an extra 25% off a large selection of items labeled “TAKE 25% OFF” and on almost everything else, Loyallists get a $25 Reward Card for every $100 you spend. Ends 4/14. Discounts automatically applied at checkout.

Joie Okana Skinny Cargo Pants (size 29) // I showed these last week in the army green, but I returned those and ordered them in black. I’m really liking the utility pant in black for something a little different.

These are true to size, or size up if in between. They were snug at first but did stretch out some with wear. The price is up there, but they’re currently 25% off at Bloomingdale’s with free shipping.

Here’s how I styled them to wear one day last week…

Speaking of Bloomingdale’s, I went to the store yesterday and did a bunch of try-ons since they’re having such a good sale.

BeachLunchLounge Sleeveless Striped Tie-Front Shirt (size small) // This stripe top is a fun summer piece. I love the colors, and it has a nice fit. It’s a tad small on me, mostly in the chest area, so if you’re larger on top, you may need to size up. Otherwise, it’s TTS.

DL1961 Jerry Denim Bermuda Shorts in Hooper (size 29) // Bermuda shorts are trending this spring, and I’m not sure I’ll participate, although I am happy to see longer styles making a comeback for those who like them.

I’ll just say this: If you wear Bermuda shorts, make sure they fit close to the thigh. When they enter frump territory is when they are baggy and loose. I also think they look best on most of us when they end a couple inches above the knee. Only certain body types can look chic when they hit the knee.

As for the pair I’m wearing here, I don’t love them. They’re too wide for me, in my opinion. I do like the 9″ inseam, though, because they do end a couple inches above the knee. Again, I’m 5’5″ so take my recommendations with a grain of salt.

Joe’s Jeans Ozzie Frayed Denim Shorts in Alma (size 29) // These shorts are way more my cuppa tea. If I didn’t already have a pair of 4″ cut-off jean shorts that I love, I’d totally have come home with these.

The fit is great, the rear pocket placement is good, and they’re very comfortable. The denim is thick and stretchy but not too stretchy — they don’t feel like they’ll bag out. These are all around great shorts. They’re also 25% off at Bloomies.

Splendid Kate V-Neck Tee (size small) // Splendid is known for their incredibly soft tees, and this one is absolutely amazing. I love that it’s not oversized at all, has no funky boob pocket, no dropped shoulder, and a straight hem. It’s not particularly fitted, nor is it boxy. The v-neck isn’t too high or too low or too narrow. It could be slightly wider in my perfect world, but otherwise, this may be the perfect grey v-neck tee.

I need another grey tee like I need a hole in the head, but I couldn’t resist coming home with this one since it was 25% off. For size reference, I recommend sizing UP. I’m wearing the small in these pictures but I purchased the medium. The small fits okay, but I’d prefer a little more room, plus it may shrink some.

Sanctuary Beacon Leopard Print Tee (size small) // Y’all know I love a good leopard print, and I think think tee is a great way to incorporate the print into your wardrobe for spring. The material is on the thicker side, so it’s not see through, and I like the raglan sleeves and round neck. It’s true to size; I’m comfortable in the small.

J Brand Crop Skinny Jeans in Vanity (size 29) // It’s really hard to show details on black jeans, but these fit great, and I like the idea of a black crop jean for spring and summer. They’re also 25% off at Bloomingdale’s.

Wanna know how I’d style these jeans and the leopard top together? Shocker — I’d throw a denim jacket on top! Hey, when it works, it works!

Rag & Bone Jean Released-Hem Skinny Jeans in Alembic (size 29) // I’m loving the Rag & Bone jeans I picked up last month, and this pair is very similar, but with a released hem. The wash is amazing, and the fit is as well. I particularly love the rear pockets on Rag & Bone jeans, and the released hem on these is a fun detail.

These have a 8.25″ rise, a 27.5″ inseam, and a 10.5″ leg opening, so they’re lower rise (someone last week asked for more low-rise recommendations — here you go!) and they’re on the shorter side of “ankle length”.

The leg opening is slightly wider than some of my other legging ankle jeans, which gives them a slightly straighter look, which is where trends are going. All in all, a nice transition jean! These are also 25% off at Bloomies.

Sanctuary Countryside Floral Blouse (size small) // How pretty is this blouse!?! I love the color palette, the double v-neck, the shirred shoulders and flutter cap sleeves.

It’s hard to see here, but it also has a front placket that is a nice touch, but it makes it difficult to front tuck so it’s definitely best left out. It’s slightly longer in the back. You’ll see a lot more of it below because I tried it on with 3 different pairs of white jeans.

And yes, I’d wear it with a denim jacket too.

DL1961 Mara Instasculpt Ankle Straight Jeans in Oakley (size 29) // For a straight ankle style, these aren’t bad. I like that they’re not super wide, but they do have the modern straight crop look to them.

They have a comfortable 9″ rise, a 13″ leg opening, and a 27″ inseam — so on the shorter side for “ankle jeans.” Any shorter, and they’d be a crop. Of course that all depends on your height. On me, they’re definitely ankle-length.

The white denim is nice and thick and not see-through at all. And yes, they’re 25% off!

7 For All Mankind The Ankle Skinny Jeans in Clean White (size 29) // These almost came home with me, but I recently picked up a new pair of white jeans so I held off. Still, these are really good. A tad thinner than I’d like, but the fit is great.

The rear pocket placement is great, and the pockets are on the smaller side, which is what I find most flattering on me. They’re a classic legging ankle style with a 9″ rise, 28″ inseam, and 9.5″ leg opening.

PAIGE Hoxton Ankle Skinny Jeans in Crisp White (size 29) // Of the three white pairs I tried here, these are the thickest and softest and most comfortable. My favorite go-to white jeans for the past few years have been a Paige pair; they really do a nice white denim.

I love the higher rise on this pair, but unfortunately they’re a little long on me and would need to be hemmed. According to the website, they have a 10″ rise, 28″ inseam, 10.25″ leg opening; but I don’t think the inseam is 28″.

They’re way longer than that on me, so I’m a little confused, but anyway. Hemming them isn’t a big deal. If I hadn’t just bought the Joe’s pair at Lord & Taylor, I’d be tempted by these. They have great rear pocket placement, and are just all in all great jeans.

AQUA Striped Rib-Knit Dress (size small) // This is a really cute casual dress for spring and summer. I like the sleeve length. It’s quite body-con so that has to be okay with you, but otherwise, super cute and a good price when bought on sale.

I can totally see this dress with a blue jean jacket and sneakers for a casual weekend look, or with a white denim jacket and wedge sandals for more of a going-out look. Definitely size up, though. I’m in the small and would feel more comfortable in a medium.

B Collection by Bobeau Rowan Striped Faux-Wrap Dress (size small) // This faux wrap is a really soft jersey material — super comfortable, and easy to throw on and go. I appreciate that the neckline is tacked so it doesn’t gape open, but it’s too small on me. I would need a medium. It’s also 25% off!

Nordstrom Spring Sale

Finally, a couple of things that came in the mail from Nordstrom… these particular items are not on sale, but a ton are. See all my Nordstrom Favorites in The Shop!

Caslon Paperbag Waist Skirt (size small) // I styled this skirt in the camo print in this post, but I ordered the green because I thought I might get more wear out of it. I really like it, so I’m not sure which to keep.

also wearing: Caslon rounded v-neck tee with Soludos Slotted Thong Sandals (super comfy – on sale at Nordstrom!)

Caslon Utility Shorts (size 8) // These are a nice pair of casual shorts that make a great alternative to jean shorts. I had some requests for shorts in a 5″ or 6″ inseam, so I ordered these, and I think I’ll keep them. They have a 5″ inseam, a 23″ leg opening, and a 9 1/2″ front rise. They’re comfortable and easy to wear and also come in a dark grey, olive, and white.

Dolce Vita Cait Slide Sandal (also at Nordstrom; size 7.5) // These cheetah print sandals have a lot of nice details, and I managed to get them for 20% off at the Shopbop Sale. They have a slight wedge, so they’re not totally flat, and the interlocking straps with stud details are fun. I really like they paired with black shorts and pants.

Whew! I think that’s it for now. I did get another couple things in the mail yesterday that I haven’t tried on yet, so maybe I’ll add them later today.

Meanwhile, here’s my sale roundup, and now I’m off to update the sale pages in The Shop!

  1. It’s been so long since I’ve gone in to Nordstrom to try anything on. I just order. LOL You found some cute things in both places. I love the LOFT beach line, but they can’t be returned in store, so I never order them. (learned that the hard way) Womp-womp. Have a great weekend!!!

    1. WHAT!?! That is weird. And what in my post was Beach collection? I hate to pay return shipping. I’ve been spoiled by all the stores that provide it for free. I’m sure we end up paying for it somehow, but mentally, I prefer it to be wrapped into the price of the products rather than have it deducted from my returns.

      1. J–Lynne, I don’t even know where my head was when I made that comment (it’s true) but what was I thinking about? I’m really only partially crazy, not completely. Sorry is I got your blood pressure up. Maybe I was just thinking it was a PSA…who knows🤣

  2. Love the maxis dress on you girl…looks amazing and as you said can be dressed up or down.
I also thought the black jeans and white jeans with those tops and short jean jacket were awesome as well.

Have a great weekend…after days of warmer temps, were freezing again,  but only for today. Woo Hoo,

  3. I made some great purchases from Tory Burch and Nordstrom….shoes, handbag, and bra! I used to like Loft but lately most of what I see from there looks, well, kind of dowdy…but I’m not giving up on them!  Maybe it’s just me but I’m finding it hard to find spring things I like. Thank goodness it will soon be warm enough to wear my Lily, Jude Connolly, and Gretchen Scott dresses! Then I’m in my comfort zone. Thank you for keeping us posted on the best sales!

    1. Sorry..I’m a spelling freak so I must correct myself….Lilly and Jude Connally!! Sometimes spell check gets it wrong!

  4. I think the green jumpsuit looks good on you–I know you think the waist is too long, but the “blouson” effect is fine. I think you should get the jumpsuit hemmed and keep it.  While you look good in the skinny jeans and top look that you favor, I think the jumpsuit is a great change-up for you and is dressier than just the jeans and top, but can still be casual.

    1. Yeah, it doesn’t blouse in a good way, though. I think it looks better in these pictures than it does in person. I do think a tailor could fix it easily, though b/c the shoulder seams are just one straight seam with no arm cut out. And yeah, the pant legs would need to be hemmed as well.

  5. I also bought the red floral dress from Loft, and back it goes as well. I love the print, but the style didn’t work for me. I wish Loft dresses were a little longer!

  6. Jo-Lynne, the small in the red floral Sanctuary top fit well? I usually take a medium and am larger busted like you.

  7. Thanks for showing some try-ons from Bloomingdales. I recently ordered a pair of Mother brand jeans that you styled (on sale- yay!) from Bloomingdales and they arrived this past week. OMG they’re my new favorite denim!!! The fit is so good! It’s been awhile since I’ve been in the store but I do love them.  Their dressing rooms are always so clean which the OCD in me likes 😄
I love the sleeveless pink striped top and the denim Bermuda shorts and added them to my cart just now.
I also really like the cute, comfortable look of the Caslon tie waist skirt but it looks like the perfect length on you which would probably make it too short for me. Is it sitting right at your waist or below?

    1. Aren’t the Mother jeans good? I can’t believe I hadn’t discovered them before. Yes, I agree, the Caslon skirt will likely be short on you. I had it sitting below.

  8. Love when you post try ons! Everything looked good on you and lots of fun pieces for spring and summer. I agree the Bermuda shorts were not the best. They are hard to look flattering on most people. Too bad the red wrap dress from Loft didn’t work. The color and pattern were pretty, but it looks like you got the red blouse from Bloomingdales.

  9. I usually don’t like jumpsuits on anyone but I thought you looked great in the green jumpsuit! I also tried to order the cute green skirt but most sizes are almost gone 🙁 You also look great in short shorts but I do not so thanks for the tips on how to buy Bermuda shorts.  You really did look great in everything!

  10. Like another commentor, I’m having issues finding spring stuff I like. The LOFT prints just didn’t work for me, maybe because they seemed a little busy this time. Plus the colors don’t work for me.

Love the red top and white jeans combo! That’s a great look for you.

    1. Hey Barb! So good to “see” you. I didn’t love any of the Loft pieces either, really, except maybe the maxi, but I have a black one already so I think it’s going back. I don’t wear dresses much. If it came in a color, I’d grab it for sure. I wish that black shirtwaist dress came with a straighter skirt. Oh well! It’s Loft, so they’ll have more new stuff next week, haha! I feel like they’re inventory turns over so fast.

  11. Fun post as always.  I know I’m late to comment, but I wanted to say a few things.  First, that striped ribbed dress looks AMAZING on you.  Seriously.  I tend to think that style only looks good on twigs, but I love that on you.  If you didn’t buy it, go get it!  Seems like it would be the perfect churchy, brunch-y, not too fancy but more than jeans look. For me, none of the other dresses stood out.  Second, you are spot on with the shorts.  I look at the bermudas on you and think they’re cute (not great, but cute enough), then I see you in the shorter shorts and there’s no comparison.  Longer shorts may be trending, but I agree with your instinct to skip that trend.  Finally, love that cherry red color on you.  And then a question – have you worn Madewell shoes?  I was tempted by some cute sandals this weekend, but being me I figured I’d think about them, then I thought I’d ask you if you think they hold up well and that sort of thing.  Have a great week!

    1. I always love to read your take on these posts. That dress is cute, but I have a similar one from Banana Republic that I kept so I didn’t purchase that one. Now you have me rethinking it. 🙂

Yeah, I’ve experimented with tons of shorts over the years, and I definitely feel best in a 3 or 4 inch inseam.

Madewell shoes don’t fit me well so I can’t speak to how they hold up over time. My feet are too flat and I can’t keep them on. 🙁

  12. Great round-up! I’m going to have to check out the DL jean shorts fo sho! I’d like to see you do a big try-on post with various jumpsuits. I remember wearing them in the ’80s (dating myself) and can’t seem to “jump” back into this trend. Also, loving your dog photo-bombing one of your pics!
