Classy Tweed Jacket Outfit for Date Night

Happy Monday, friends! Today I’m wrapping up my style series on 3 Ways to Wear a Tweed Jacket with a classy tweed jacket outfit for date night or business casual events.

I love how this tweed sweater jacket pairs with black jeans or pants and an ivory blouse.

For those just tuning in, this jacket has the structure of a blazer with the comfort of a cardigan, and I love the classic Jackie O vibes.

It has a flattering tailored fit and a one-button closure. I also appreciate that the shoulders aren’t super padded, and the sleeves are nice and long. All of these features help keep this jacket from looking too masculine, which is a risk with blazers.

Also, the black trim and faux flap pockets are nice details.

In the past two posts, I had a few questions about buttoning this jacket. It does button comfortably, but I think it looks more feminine and relaxed to leave a blazer unbuttoned. That said, you can definitely button it if that’s your preference.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures that way, but I will try to take a mirror selfie at some point and share that… maybe in this Friday’s try-on haul.

This jacket runs true to size. For reference, I have the small.

My mixed jersey tank is also from Ann Taylor, and I love how it pairs with this jacket. The rounded neck is the perfect complement to the structure of the jacket (and v-neck, should you decide to button it.)

I always think a top like this looks more feminine with a jacket than a button-up blouse, but you could certainly wear one of those too.

In that case, I recommend leaving the top few buttons unbuttoned to your comfort level. It’s slimming and elongating to the neck to show some skin in this area — especially if you have a larger chest.

My earrings and necklace are both Kendra Scott pieces. She makes higher end costume jewelry, which always wears well and lasts a long time.

These drop earrings are feminine and pretty, but they don’t overpower the look. And this delicate adjustable pendant with the black stone coordinates beautifully.

I wore black skinny jeans with this outfit because I was styling it for more of a date night look, but this could also work for a business casual dress code, and I might even wear it to church!

You can certainly swap out the jeans for black trousers to make it office appropriate, or if you want to take it down a notch, wear a white t-shirt instead of this silky shell.

It all depends on the occasion and your personal style, but this is a versatile outfit that can easily be tweaked for a variety of situations.

  1. As always, you look beautiful!  Thank you so much for your transparency…so refreshing!
I’m curious about your IF, and how you are doing so far?  I am on week 2, and loving it. I’m so glad you posted about it!

    1. Yes, I was thinking it was getting to be time for an update. I’m still doing IF and liking it. I had some issues with my plumbing working properly (sorry, TMI) so I spent some of recent weeks rather uncomfortable, but I think that’s working itself out. Um, #nopunintended 🙈

My weight loss pretty much leveled off after the first couple of weeks, and that was a bit discouraging, but I was warned that could happen, especially with not much weight to lose. I’m in it for the long haul, so I’m just trying to trust the process and keep plugging along. I’ve been tweaking my diet a bit, to see if I can get the scale moving again. I’ll keep you posted!

  2. Jo-Lynne… dying for an update on your skin care routine. I am 47 years old with under-eye puffiness and I’d love to hear more about the products you’ve found:) TY!

  3. Good Morning! 2 things….1st, I just want to say how much I love your hairstyle. It really suits you, and is so flattering!
2nd, I read your post most days, and a few months ago you made mention that you were a little heavier than you prefer and were wanting to drop a few pounds. I just want to say, I tip my hat to you in respect that you didn’t post daily about your methods…what you were eating or doing about it….but that you just did it! You said you were going to do it, you just did it, and you look great! Just saying! 🙂

    1. Thank you! For all of my life, I’ve played with various lengths of hair, but shoulder length has always been the one I fall back on. I think it was just like this when I got married, lol! Except, bangs. Why did no one ever tell me to ditch the bangs??? 💇🏻‍♀️

And as far as the weight loss, I have posted here and there about IF, but I don’t see any need to talk about it every day. Definitely happy with the results, tho! ☺️

  4. Very cute jacket!  I have a similar one and I love to wear it how you have styled yours, especially with jeans or a dress, though I like to add several necklaces to give off that Chanel vibe.  Someday, I would like an actual Chanel necklace. Or jacket. Or both!

  5. Another very nice look with the tweed jacket!  It’s awesome how the jacket can be dressed up, down, and somewhere in between.   My goal is to get away from having so many pieces in my closet that can only be worn one way.  I can’t wait to spend many hours in my closet reducing the quantity of clothes.  I hope are having a good day!
