Valentine’s Day Outfit Idea: Pink Moto on Black

Happy Friday, friends! I’m back today with an outfit idea for Valentine’s Day. This outfit came together rather by accident, but I love how it turned out!

Usually when I’m in a rush and throw something together, it bombs… or at least there is one aspect I wish I’d changed. But not this time!

I had my eye on this pink moto jacket for quite a while before I pulled the trigger and placed my order.

It was on sale for like ever, and still fully stocked, so I finally broke down and bought it, and I’m so glad I did. They call it coral, but it is actually very much pink.

I wore it to go out with girlfriends the other night over an ivory tank with blue jeans, and in Wednesday’s What I Wore post, I shared some of my shoe options — including this look with neutral pumps.

I had been planning to shoot that look for this Valentine’s Day post, but once I shared the mirror selfie, it seemed silly to shoot the look for a dedicated post. Plus, I usually dress up a little more than blue jeans for Valentine’s Day.

So, when I was getting ready for this photo shoot, I quickly threw this look together with black coated jeans, a black tank, and black pumps.

I was afraid the pink jacket would look out of place with all the black, but it actually worked out quite well!

For accessories, I wore a chunky mixed metal necklace. This is how to do a statement necklace for 2020.

Statement necklaces aren’t “out” per se, but some styles look dated. The hammered silver discs and antique gold chain links keep this necklace modern with a bit of an edge.

My earrings are also Lucky Brand, and they have the two-toned metal look as well. I like how they coordinate without being matchy-matchy.

I also added a Victoria Emerson wrap bracelet.

This tank is a really nice layering piece, plus the straps are bra-friendly, so I can wear it without the jacket if I want. I like it so much, I have it in 3 colors — black, ivory, and a red that has been discontinued. It runs TTS; I have the small.

These pumps are nice because the pointy toe elongates the leg, while the chunky heel keeps them walkable.

My black coated jeans elevate the look and keeps it modern. The coated jeans, moto jacket, and hammered metal jewelry all have an edgy vibe, while the suede pumps and silky tank add some refinement and polish to the look, which provides balance and keeps it interesting.

By creating a column of black and adding the contrasting pink jacket on top, this look is very slimming, and I really like how the necklace pops.

What are your Valentine’s Day plans??? Do you go out or stay in?

We usually go out to eat, but not on the 14th, as we’ve found our favorite restaurants to be crowded and the food not up to par. We haven’t made any plans yet for Valentine’s Day… I guess we better get on that!

  1. Love this look! You look HOT! We are going away to a resort at Cape Cod. My parents lived on the Cape and we love it off season, so it will be nice. Even though we’re empty nest, getting away alone is nice!

  2. You always look so great in your moto jackets…  I keep trying them on but haven’t found one that looks right on me.  I really like the pink…it softens the look of the moto (which may be part of my problem beyond the fit).   Really sharp outfit!

  3. We stay in for the reasons you stated. We cook lobster at home, add a stuffed potato and usually a small cannoli💕🥂 Jo-LYNNE, you look fabulous in this outfit! How heavy is this motto jacket? I am envious every time you style them, but I live on the Gulf coast. Just wondering how much wear I would get out of it. Although it’s 37 this morning ❗️

  4. What a great outfit! It makes me sad that I look so awful in pink! However, I ordered the jacket in gray as I needed a spring jacket. (The beautiful gray leather jacket I bought from Nordstrom 2 years ago suddenly has an awful petroleum smell. I even had it dry cleaned! It didn’t help.) I tend to think of suede as a cold-weather fabric though so I don’t associate it with spring or summer. What do you think about wearing a suede jacket in the spring or even summer, Jo-Lynne?

  5. This is a gorgeous outfit and the jacket looks so nice against the black top. You did a great job on this and I would definitely wear this.

  6. Oh, I love this look on you and the outfit!  I’m glad that Paul will be back tonight and that Becca is feeling better.  Larry asked me last night if I had gotten him a card for Valentines Day and if were doing anything.  I said no, then he said, “we know that we are each other’s Valentines any way.”  I sort of fibbed, because I did buy him something useful, but I got me one too, just a different style.  But, it’s something very useful, if it indeed works.  Thankfully, the storms have moved out, but our county is one of several still under a flood warning.  Our sustained winds for a while yesterday got up to 46mph in our small town.  Have a great day!

  7. Great outfit.. I think the coated black jeans take it up a notch.. I have never tried them as they look a little stiff but maybe next season as I’m holding out for spring lol.. woke up to all ice today so waiting for it to turn to rain.
    Have a good weekend:)

  8. I’m going to copy this! I’ve got a pink moto from Loft a couple years ago that I love, and of course boatloads of black tops, pants, and heels. Also an almost eerily similar hammered necklace.
We are going to see Casablanca on Valentine’s Day — there is a special showing at a theater nearby so I’m excited for that. We already have our tickets. We like to go to nontraditional restaurants on Valentine’s because of the factors you mentioned; last year we did ramen. I put the boyfriend in charge of dinner so we’ll see what he comes up with.

  9. I admit I am not the biggest fan of coated jeans, but I love this outfit on you! The jacket is gorgeous and looks great with your coloring. And I agree that it looks particularly nice with all black, though I too would have been skeptical of the combination. Go figure. I enjoy when you link to other blogs. I actually got a link to Tania’s blog on my FB page the other day, and thought it was great. I’m not a big valentines day person, but I love the outfits anyway!

  10. This is SO cute!!! I just love this jacket….I feel like I might need to just pick it up…great color for spring!!!

  11. I love this outfit! I often wear a column of black because it’s slimming and easy to add that pop of color. This look is elegant but still sexy, perfect for date night. I often wear black jeans. Tried on faux leather but didn’t like it – too biker chic for me. I really like the coated jeans on you. Are they comfortable?

  12. Love this, every bit of it. It is really tempting to buy that jacket even more now. 🙂
Enjoy your husband coming home today! My husband travels as well and I always look forward to him returning home.

  13. That pink jacket looks great with everything. Today’s outfit is very sharp. I like the heavier necklace with a moto it’s more in scale.

  14. Love this pink moto jacket with the black so much!  I tend to forget to wear my black jeans – I really need to make more of an effort.  I love pink and black together.  Our Valentine’s Day is going to be a bit different this year.  We usually don’t go out on the 14th, but we were invited to go out with my daughter and her boyfriend to have pizza and go bowling.  They have tickets to the Symphony the next night for their own celebration.

  15. I ordered the grey jacket just before Christmas and just love it! The sleeves were over 3″ too long for me so I took them to a tailor and had them altered. Perfect! Am curious, though: Do you spray your suede jackets with any sort of a protector against potential rain drops, etc. and if so, which brand do you use? I have never had a suede jacket before and want to make sure it doesnt get ruined. thank you!

  16. Oh man, I LOVE this outfit. Super cute, Jo-Lynne. I like the tank and coated pants as well. Now I’m regretting getting rid of my identical pink moto. I found I didn’t wear it much and was in a purging rampage. LOL. I’m so sorry your daughter is sick. We were all out for the count in January with the flu so I’m grateful we’re all back to health! Will pray for a quick recovery.

  17. Loving this whole look on you!
That jacket looks sharp, and goes so well with the black, which I wouldn’t have thought initially
Great outfit, and you look fantastic

  18. Great post Jolynne!  I love seeing pieces dressed up and down, and even better that the two outfits are different color combos!  Have a suggestion tho, for the date night look, it’d be cute to add a silver clutch if you have one.  Would break up the black, and tie in your necklace.  Cute as is tho!

  19. Such a cute outfit! I have the jeans but haven’t been brave enough to wear them yet- seeing them put together like this, I’m thinking it’s time to give them a go! Love the jacket and after waffling a while on the color, I decided to take the plunge – but the color was sold out in medium at Nordstrom. Decided to do a google search to locate a medium – and what do you know, the Rack has some left only in medium so I happily snatched one a tout de suite! (the Rack clearance price was less than Nordstroms – check it out in case any of your followers are looking for a medium and lamenting the fact that they waited ;). Have a fantastic Sunday!

  20. Does the care label on this jacket read “leather dry-clean” or just “dry-clean” as stated on the  Nordstrom site?  Has anyone had their jacket cleaned, and if so, by which method? I’m concerned about the cost of upkeep.

  21. Love your Valentines outfit !
Wondering where a petite can get a cute moto jacket with short enough sleeves to wear, without alteration ?

  22. I just bought the pink jacket and I also love it!! It’s quite versatile and the weight is just right, not too heavy. I even bought the faux suede skirt in pink and it’s such a sharp outfit and at a great price. Your mix of pink and black is adorable. I wore the jacket and skirt with a zebra-striped blouse which I thought looked quite sharp also. Yay, bring on Valentine’s Day!!!💕
