Waiving the White Flag

I have about 5 posts whirling around in my brain but there’s no time to get them out.

For the dear commenter who thanked me for Tuesday’s post and admitted that sometimes it seems that my life is so idyllic, you may be interested to know that I just survived a 30-minute tantrum from my 3-year-old who wasn’t perfectly satisfied with the way her shoes felt after I put them on her.  And when I say I survived, I’m talking BARELY.  Life with this child is a constant whine fest and I’m so over it.  She turns 4 next Saturday.  Someone please tell me it that it ends.

Her only saving grace is that I get to drop her off at school for four hours today while I get out for some girlymama chat and caffeine, which will hopefully equip me to get through the rest of the terrible threes.  Or at least the rest of today.  I guess a mocha latte can only do so much, right?

P.S.  I just found out that although I filled out picture forms and wrote checks, they somehow did not get into my kids’ backpacks.  And today is picture day, of course.  I guess I’ll be stopping at the elementary school on my way to coffee and girl chat.  Joy!

  1. Thanks. 😉

And if my almost five year old is an example… the whining does not get any better. Sometimes I want to lock her in her room. And lots of times I do make her go sit in there until she can “speak in a normal voice.” Sorry.

  2. LOLOL – oh my. I have a best friend who has one of those children. 🙂 I feel for you my friend! 🙂 Have a fun time today doin’ the girly thing…I’m due for one of those soon, been working hard around the house and I want pampering, Starbucks is calling my name, I just know it! 🙂

  3. I have a three and a half year old that is KILLING me! I keep hoping that her baby sister isn’t picking up on her behavior. I can’t go through this again!
    Thanks for keepin’ it real.

  4. I only have one girl. I keep hoping it gets better too. She just turned five but I think she is getting worse. I hope at some time it will be better. She throws tantrums worse since she started Kindergarten. I guess I am used to the easiness of boys.

  5. I our house it wasn’t the shoes – it was the socks. Toe seams on children’s socks. We STILL deal with this. Every time we buy socks it is a quest. Every time we buy socks we give away/return bags of socks.

    sigh.

and no, it doesn’t end at four. sorry.

I seem to always forget the picture day form. Thankfully, they want the sale so much, they always give me a second chance on the packet of proofs that come back.

  6. It definitely does get better. I always say I could see a light at the end of the tunnel when they turned 4. Don’t know why, but 4 seemed to be a turning point.

Of course, hormones start to kick in around 8, so brace yourself.

And I have an 11 year old who came home and whined all the way until bedtime. 🙁

  7. Hi Jo-Lynne:
My 4 year old daughter whined from age 2 1/2 to just about 2 weeks ago. I dreaded my evenings just thinking about her whining, demands and her clinging to me all over the house. The last 2 weeks have been heaven, she turned 4 in August so I’m sure she has matured and I am so thankful to God she is hopefully over the whiney stage or at least I hope it is. So I’m sure your 3 year old will soon calm down and you will see a difference. Good luck and much patience to you! Love your blog by the way!

  8. Well, at least you are still blogging to tell about it. I can’t even manage to do that this week.

I have to say that with both of my children, age 3, was the absolute worst. I could not wait for them to turn 4.

    Hang in there!

  9. You can make it! You can make it! Or as I told my friend this morning, people who are idiots have done this, so we can, too!

Oh, any my car makes it’s way back to pre-school for extra trips MANY days. Many, my friend.

  10. Three and four was tough with my girl. We didn’t have terrible two’s, but three (mostly) was rough. So hang in.

Though as I alluded in Tuesday’s post, I just had a 10 minute screaming/crying (mostly her — ha ha) argument with my newly 11 year old. I’m hoping that it eases when real puberty hits, but isn’t that supposed to be when it peaks???

  11. I have a 17 year old goddaughter—and no the whining, temper tantrums don’t quit. I have a 22 year old who realized that whining and temper tantrums will NOT get him what he wants. I do not know what the difference is or why it happened this way.

But that’s why we have babies. If we had teen-agers or whiney 3 year olds first, we would never reproduce!

  12. Our 3’s were awful with both of our girls but stick to your guns (or duct tape) or whatever you use! I remember using my grandma’s phrase “you can get glad in the same pants you got mad in missy!” Mine got better with age and as teens they are a joy (mostly with the exception of the weepy week ;})

    Hugs!

  13. Oh, I can so relate! I have a whiner (he’s 4) and some days, he kills me. Really. There is nothing that can suck the life-blood out of me more than whining. I was joking with my husband just the other night that there is so much work to be done with that boy before we’re ready to marry him off. It’s my mission to make him a suitable husband for some poor, unsuspecting girl out there. And some days, I’m just not sure I’m up for the job. 🙂
