We Interrupt This Vacation For A Very Important Announcement

Last year I got it in my head that I wanted a pair of black jeans.  If you’ve hung around here for any length of time, you know of my penchant for a great pair of jeans.  I have quite a collection, but none in black.  I looked and looked but never found exactly what I wanted.  There was one pair that I considered briefly, but the price tag was too hefty for my budget at the time.

Now, I’ve never been much of an “off-price” shopper, mostly due to the fact that I get overwhelmed when I have to dig.  I’m spoiled.  I prefer to shop at stores that make it easy on you, even if you do pay a premium.  But every once in a while I find a needle in the haystack when I give the off-price stores a try.

For example, when we were shopping at the TJMaxx in Boston last week, I scored a pair of Joes Jeans for $79, which may sound like a fortune for a pair of jeans, but considering that they’ll run you $150 and up at Nordstrom, I didn’t have to think twice before putting those jeans into my bag.

At the TJMaxx/Marshalls event that I attended, I learned that off-price retailers are able to sell products from the current season because they can buy smaller quantities than the department stores, and also they promise not to return anything to the vendors.   That way, they get the best possible prices and pass them on to us — just a little factoid for ya.

So yesterday when I was out shopping with my best friend from high school and her gorgeous 5-month-old miracle baby, we decided to walk through Stein Mart because, as I told her, “Boomama always talks about finding the best deals at The Stein Mart.”  And she didn’t even blink an eye when I mentioned a friend named Boomama.  I guess my friends and family are finally getting used to me referring to people by blog title.

I don’t have a Stein Mart where I live, so I was curious to see what all the hype was about.  We wandered around, talking our faces off the whole time, and just as we were heading out the door empty-handed, I spotted a table stacked with Lucky Brand jeans.

You know where this is going, don’t you?

Long story short, I am now the proud owner of a great pair of black jeans, grand total: $49.99.  I’m sure your life is complete now that you know.  Carry on.

  1. there are several steinmarts near me in memphis. they often have COUPONS for 30% off one item, or an additonal 50% off all clearance. the coupons run in the paper on friday or saturday. if you are near a steinmart on the week-end, keep that in mind! your $50 jeans could go as low as $35! BONUS!

  2. Nice find! I too am searching for that elusive pair of black jeans…I hate spending too much on jeans but I fear I will have to shell out big bucks or never get a decent black pair.

  3. We have a Stein Mart in my town. It is fabulous….but I’m jealous of people who live close to a Wegmans. It takes me 12 hours to get to one. 🙂

  4. I discovered Lucky jeans a few months ago and am totally in love. I am tall (5’9″) with a 34″ inseam and they fit perfectly. I am partial to the Sweet n’ Low style. They have great prices at Stein Mart, but sometimes the selection isn’t the greatest. Macy’s often has them on sale 40-50% off, too.

  5. Glad you found just what you wanted. I have a Stein Mart and a TJ Maxx less than 5 minutes from my house…whoo hoo!

  6. I had to google Steinmart! I have to admit that I live a couple blocks from Filene’s and a Marshalls and another discount store and I’ve never been. I’m just not sure I have the patience!

  7. i am jealous and awed. i have never found a great deal at steinmart. i guess i’m just going to have to keep trying…

  8. You said: “I’ve never been much of an “off-price” shopper, mostly due to the fact that I get overwhelmed when I have to dig.” That is SO me.

I just get so overwhelmed at Ross and thrift stores and those kind of places. I want to go into a clean, pretty, well-lit store and find exactly what I’m looking for. Spoiled? Yes. But it’s much easier.

Congratulations on your great find, by the way. I don’t think there is a Stein Mart in my area.
