What I Wore: Girls’ Lunch Out

This is an outfit I wore to have lunch with a girlfriend after my photo shoot on Monday.

I wasn’t planning to make this into a blog post, but Alison took a few pictures since we were together anyway, and then when I got them back I liked them so much I decided to go ahead and share them today.

Unfortunately, this blouse is low inventory, but I’ve shown it a few times before, so maybe you have it hanging in your closet and need some new inspiration for styling it, or maybe you have something similar.

I’m loving florals grounded on dark backgrounds these days, and this one seems to go with just about everything. I’ve worn it with different combinations of grey, black, white, taupe, and denim.

This time I wore it with blue jeans, a taupe moto, and nude suede pumps.

I picked up these AG Farrah skinnies during the Shopbop sale last month, and I’ve been wearing them a ton. They fit similarly to my old favorites — the AG legging ankle jeans — but they have a more current higher rise.

Because I’m short-waisted, I think I look best in a lower rise, but as I’ve put on a few pounds over the last couple of years, I’m appreciating the high waisted trend for holding in all the jiggly stuff.

To keep a good balance, I’ve compensated for the higher rise by going up an inch in my inseam length. I used to wear 28 or 29 inch inseams, and now I look for 26 or 27. These are a little longer than I prefer at 27.5, but I don’t want to shorten them because I don’t want to lose the frayed cuffs.

This jacket is an oldie but goodie. It’s very comfortable, and it layers so nicely over blouses and sweaters. This year’s version comes in three great neutrals.

For size reference, I take a medium in BlankNYC jackets, and I’m wearing a small in the blouse and a 29 in the jeans.

I accessorized with only these mixed metal leaf drop earrings, but this look could also use a necklace. I usually wear one with this top to help fill the neckline, but then I go with a smaller earring.

The pumps certainly elevate the look, and I love a great pair of pumps, but I’ve also worn block heeled sandals and ballet flats with this blouse and jeans. I often wear these cutout shield sandals.

This outfit is perfect for this mild fall weather we’re having here in Pennsylvania. I keep the jacket on indoors if I’m chilly, and I remove it if not. When I wore it to lunch, I did take off the jacket inside the restaurant because it was such a mild day and it was comfortable inside.

  1. That is a very nice outfit, and the blouse does have a lot of pretty colors in it.  The length of your hair now is very flattering.  Have a great day!

  2. I’m so sorry about your feet, Jo-Lynne. After a night of dancing Saturday night in heels, I decided I needed a more comfortable cocktail/black-tie shoe. I like around a 3″, preferably with a bit of a platform, but they’re not easy to find in the strappy sandal style. (You can find them in pumps) I ordered a box of neutral-colored strappy heels from Zappos and then a second box, which I’m waiting for now. Hopefully, I’ll find something. I ever ordered a pair of Stuart Weitzman thinking I’d pay anything not to have my feet hurt. I was so disappointed. They were a gorgeous leather, the construction was well made, but they were so uncomfortable. 🙁 Luckily, I’m not a quitter.

I chuckled when I saw your Thursday outfit with the Free People top. I have the same outfit on today, down to a shorter necklace, which I rarely wear. Love. Love. Love my new snakeskin booties. Happy Thursday!

    1. I went through the exact same hunt this fall – we had 2 fairly formal weddings. My opinion of the Stuart Weitzman was the same as yours. I ended up with Paul Green Agusta Heel sandals and love, love them – similar style to the SW but shorter, block heel and so comfortable. They are limited sizes on Zappos but are on sale if you can find them. The only drawback is that they are black suede – which worked for me this fall but it would have preferred black leather. Good luck.

    2. Funny you thought the SW was uncomfortable. Which ones did you try?

There is no definitely padding, but I actually find them very comfortable, especially this pair I wore – https://shopstyle.it/l/9yic. I wore them and danced all night back in August, and my feet felt great.

But sometimes that chunky heel just doesn’t work… like with the black dress. The nudistsong with the 4″ stiletto is just a TAD too high for me. I don’t even walk naturally in them. They are just sooo gorgeous. I probably need to switch to this one with the 3.15″ heel: https://shopstyle.it/l/9yiX.

Please let me know about the shoes you try and which ones work out for you.

  3. Love this outfit. I don’t have that top (although I was extremely tempted to buy it), but I have another red floral top and a plum-colored floral top that could easily stand in for it in this, plus all the other pieces. I might give it a try soon 🙂

  4. I love your outfit. I’d have to swap out the shoes though. I broke my ankle 4 years ago and unfortunately I can’t wear shoes with thin high heels anymore. But hats off to the ladies that can!

    1. Yeah, a chunky heel is way more practical. 🙂 True confessions… I switched to those chunky sandals I linked before I went out to eat. My toes were still bothering me from the nerve issues I’ve been having, and I decided I needed something with more stability.

  5. Great top (I wear mine all.the.time. 😊)
I can’t imagine wearing jackets and jeans. We’re deep in our October heatwave and fire season made worse by Santa Ana winds blowing hot dry air. I just turned on the news and am watching acres and acres of land and homes burning north of Los Angeles. This whole week has been in the 90s. 🔥🔥🔥 Suffice it to say, this is not my favorite time of year. Can’t wait ‘till December!  I don’t know how the so cal bloggers style outfits at this time of year! I’ll be taking a break from reading the blog for awhile,  but it’s not personal, it’s just because the region we’re I live doesn’t give me any need to shop for warm clothing. I’ll check back in closer to Thanksgiving. Blessings to you! 💜

  6. Jo-Lynne, this is such a great outfit, I can understand why you photographed it after all! I also am loving the colors for Fall and the nude suede pumps are spectacular. I really like the taupe moto jacket and would love to add one to my closet but it’s not a color that flatters my skin tone that well. So I stick with my black, cognac, and green ones.  Thanks for the beautiful outfit inspiration!

  7. Haha, I wish. I lost 5 lbs in Sept… and gained it back, and lost it, and gained it back and here I am.

For the past few years, I’ve done diets (usually low carb/Whole30 types of eating) and lost 5-10 lbs and even kept it off for maybe 6-8 mos, but it always comes back to this.

So thank you, but I am pretty much just bouncing around, playing with the same 5 lbs. I think my body just really wants to be this weight at this point in my life.
