What I Wore Lately Vol. 19

Happy hump day, friends! It’s time for another edition of What I Wore Lately. This is a roundup of my daily looks from the past week. It’s been quite hot here lately, so these looks are all about trying to stay cool and comfortable.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds, with a slight hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

What I Wore Lately

My girls wanted to go to the mall last week, and I decided to wear a casual dress for a change of pace.

This cozy knit dress is soft and comfortable, and it has just enough shaping through the waist to be flattering. I like the dolman sleeves and subtle boat neck, and the curved hem is a nice touch. (It runs TTS; I’m in the small.)

I thought it would go perfectly with my new P448 sneakers (a birthday present from my mom.) FYI, these sneakers are on sale at Nordstrom!

They seemed a little heavy with the dress, though, so I tried my Cole Haan Anica sandals.

I also added a long pendant necklace — this one was a Christmas gift from Paul a few years back, and it’s definitely more of an investment piece.

If you’re looking for something similar at a more budget-friendly price point, I found this. You might be able to put it on a longer chain.

I think I like the dress better this way. Which look is your favorite?

Daily Ritual knit dress // Cole Haan sandals // Yurman necklace (similar for less) // Lagos bracelets // nails

The next day, I spent a few hours boxing up returns, and then I hung out with a friend while her kids swam. This cool and casual look was perfect for a hot summer afternoon on the deck.

Just when I thought I was done buying sandals… I could not resist these slides when I saw them in-store. They have just the right combination of minimalism and whimsy, and they’re also 40% off.

My tank and shorts are TTS, but I sized down half in the slides.

Madewell Tomboy tank // Old Navy floral camo shorts // Marc Fisher studded slides (40% off) // Anna Beck pendant // Lagos bracelets // nails

Another day, another black tank… This one is also from Madewell, but it’s a little bit different from the one above.

And this time I wore the P448 sneakers all day. They have a decent amount of cushion and support, and I try to wear a supportive shoe on days that I do a lot of standing at my desk.

FYI, I had to size up to the 39 in these. I have a size 38 in this pair.

Madewell whisper cotton v-neck tank (also at Nordstrom) // Gap shorts // P448 John sneakers (20% off) // Anna Beck pendant // Lagos bracelets

I wore this next look to host friends in the backyard on Saturday night. Yes, another tank top and shorts combo… Did I mention it’s been super hot here lately?

Hey, at least I changed up my accessories this time. These earrings are lightweight and comfortable, even on a hot day.

The tank and shorts are super soft and comfortable, and I like how the gold slides are still casual but add a touch of glam to the look.

These slides have been restocked in most sizes, and they’re really cute on and comfy too. Use code SPRING60to get 60% off.

striped ribbed tank // Gap shorts // gold Steve Madden slides // teardrop earrings // Gorjana super star necklace // initial bracelet (gifted from a friend)

And this was church on Sunday… I knew I’d just be coming home and getting in the pool, so I decided to throw my hair into a ponytail and be done with it.

This dress is cool and comfortable, and so easy to throw on and go.

I did add some different jewelry, including the Kendra Scott multi collar necklace from Saturday’s Try-On Haul… which has been restocked!!! It says there are only a few left, though, so grab one quick if you wanted it.

Everlane seamed tank dress // Tory Burch Miller sandals // Kendra Scott necklace and earrings // Stella & Dot cuff bracelet

I skipped the hair and makeup routine on Monday, and just threw on this tank top and skirt to work from home all day.

I wouldn’t typically put this shade of blush with the rust-colored tank, but the Birks offer good support for my feet and back when I’m standing at my desk a lot, and it actually doesn’t look too bad.

Madewell Tomboy tank // CALIA woven skirt // Birk Madrid // specs

And yesterday, we had dinner outside with friends so I threw on this Old Navy boho top and Wit & Wisdom shorts.

It probably sounds like we’re throwing caution to the wind, seeing friends all the time, but it’s pretty much the same group of people, and we stay outside as much as possible.

I really like the longer shorts and the minimalist brown thong sandals with this top, and I added a Victoria Emerson wrap bracelet to jazz it up a bit.

floral top // white shorts // Tory Burch sandals (also at Saks and Nordstrom) // Victoria Emerson bracelet // Gorjana super star necklace

And that’s a wrap!

It’s been kind of a slow one week. We were supposed to be in Maine right now, but we’ve decided to stay put for the time being, so my calendar is pretty empty.

Make it a great day!

  1. You always manage to take simple color combinations & turn it into something classy!!   I love this black studded slides!   And how classy is the simple black dress with the gold slides?  Love all the looks!

  2. I definitely like the sandals with the dress more than the P448s. And I love P448s, but I agree that they just seem too heavy with the dress. I’ve been living in tanks and shorts all summer too. I ordered a few of the Madewell Tomboy tanks and really like them. I did actually put on boyfriend jeans and a short-sleeved tee last night when we went to visit my father-in-law in the nursing home. It was in the low 70s, raining, and felt chilly. I even threw on my Splendid thermal cardigan and was not sorry I had it with me. It’s the first time we’ve since him since March. We were outside, under a covered patio, behind a wall that they’d built of plexiglass/plywood. We were all wearing masks, and using phones for talking. Unfortunately we were told that we would be the last visitors for now because cases in the area (not at the nursing home) were rising again. 🙁 He was so happy to see us, and we were so happy to be able to see him. They’ve only been doing this for a couple of weeks. We’d had a prior appointment, but they’d canceled because there ended up being a heat advisory that day. Hopefully cases in the area start decreasing. I know it did him a world of good to see us, but he also stated several times that they take really good care of him. Thankfully he does like it there, and he does seem in good spirits.

    1. I’m so glad you got to see him. That’s one of the cruelest parts of this whole covid mess – keeping loved ones apart. We were fortunate that my FIL’s home allowed immediate family in to see him at the end.

  3. Yup tanks and shorts… its been so hot. I haven’t had a dress on much this summer, as by afternoon I am in my bathing suit in the pool. Love your hair in the pic with the larger glasses and boho top with white shorts! Have a good one.

  4. I like every one of these outfits – and def like the sandals better with the dress! Great examples of how one can be comfortable and still look put together and stylish. And YOU look fantastic!!

  5. While the dress looks good with the sandals and the sneakers, I prefer the sandals.  How are David’s ankles doing?  I have seen on the world news that y’all are experiencing the ridiculous heat, just like we are.  So, not only are Larry and I pretty well sequestered inside due to COVID 19, the heat and humidity has been added to the mix, and making us feel even more isolated.  Thank goodness we enjoy being around each other!  We were fortunate to have some rain late yesterday, which dropped the temp about 20 degrees, pretty quickly.  I hope you have a great day!

  6. I am trying not to be envious of all of your flat sandals. I lived in that type of sandal until my foot surgery and can only wear more supportive footwear now. There are so many cute supportive sandals now, so I am happy about that. But I am really enjoying the flat sandals vicariously through you!  Okay, I know the dress and athletic shoes are the trend, but I still can’t get my eye to accept it. When my teenage granddaughters wear it, it looks adorable and normal. But when I see it on women, my mind can’t adjust to that. I definitely like the sandals better.
I am having my surgery in about 3 weeks and at first they told us that my husband would have to drop me off and go home. We both were pretty unsettled about that, but now they are allowing him to stay with me. I only hope with the COVID-19 kicking up again, they don’t rescind that.

    1. Part, I feel the same way every time she wears heels. I love the look but just can’t wear them any more. 😢

  7. love seeing what you wear – I get so much inspiration from our outfits. By the way, the Calia skirt is on a flash sale today (wednesday 7/22)

  8. Ooh I like so many of the looks! Believe it or not it’s only 61 degrees today with a high of 72.. Getting ready for a hot humid weekend! Enjoy your day!

    Cindy

  9. Cute and casual. That’s the name of the game. I ordered those white shorts. I love WW. I reordered 1 & 2 sizes bigger though so they would have more of a loose fit. Waiting on them to arrive. XO

  10. Love all these outfits.  The 2nd way you wore the gray dress with the sandals is my favorite of the two. And I really liked the orange tank with the olive skirt!

  11. Last night Ann Taylor had the wicker clutch you styled a few weeks back with the floral tank and white shorts/white jeans, if anyone is interested. It was also 60% off.

  12. Hi!  Thanks for another fun post!  I am taking the Adore your Wardrobe course you recommended (fun!) and wonder what body type you were.  You mentioned you are a ‘slight hourglass’ but I haven’t seen that option in the course.  Please explain what you mean by ‘slight hourglass.’  Thanks again for brightening our days. Stay well.

    1. I’m a short-waisted curvy, by Kelly’s definition, but I don’t use the word curvy to describe myself because it’s a term associated with plus sizes, and I found that confused people. I say slightly b/c I was close to being a straight. My waist is 10″ smaller than hips but only 8″ smaller than chest. 🙂

      1. Thanks, Jo-lynne!  This explanation makes sense … and explains why I can’t replicate your front tuck options–I am a pear!  But I still love seeing what outfits you put together.

  13. Love sandals with the dress! Would you consider doing an article on comfortable sandals? Especially flats! I know it’s late in the game, but we may have over 2 months that we can Still wear them in Nebraska! I’m having trouble with one heel and need some sandal options. My feet are narrow

  14. Love to see these post what you are wearing for the week. 🙂 PLEASE be careful……whatever that means….LOL as even though you say you are pretty much around the same group of people, those people all hang with others and it really ends up your contact is with so many.  Anyone, symptoms or no symptoms can be carrying the virus.  I don’t have the answer, as I too struggle with how do we keep to ourselves and maybe only family if this is going to go on for awhile.  I would for sure do only outside and social distance the 6 ft.  My husband works for a Fire District and he sees whats out there and the numbers.  At first I was more brave, once things opened in our area, but then things started to spike so quickly and I backed off again.  Just yesterday I had coffee with a friend, outside social distancing and she was telling me how their church opened up and also she was attending the youth group and everyone wears masks, but by the end of the night all the kids and even herself were pulling their masks off down under their chin.  This is when I thought…….okay……now really she was exposed to all those kids and now I could be.  I just have to pray about it.  So nice you have the outside pool area to hang.  We aren’t having the hot weather you are.  But we are suppose to get it next week. (the NW coast)

    1. I hear ya, there’s always a risk. I guess everyone has to figure out their own comfort level, but for now we’re enjoying the opportunity to gather outside. I wish I thought this thing would be under control by the time cold weather hits, but I doubt it. I think it’s going to be a loooong winter.
