What I Wore Lately vol. 21

Happy hump day, friends! I’m currently sitting in a Starbucks parking lot, waiting for my Americano to cool off, using their WiFi so I can get this post up and my newsletter out.

Hurricane Isaias blew through here yesterday and left a bunch of flooded roads and downed power lines in its wake. Good times!

Meanwhile, the show must go on!

I haven’t been feeling terribly inspired in the fashion department as of late, and I think you will see that reflected in these pictures. I almost didn’t even post them, and then I thought I might as well because otherwise the #NSale is going to totally overwhelm what little summer content I’ve got.

It’s not that I’m ready for fall. I most certainly am not! I intend to soak up every last drop of summer, but I’d be happy to do that wearing the same shorts and sandals every day.

Any-who. Enough of my rambling. For better or for worse, this is what I’ve been wearing lately…

What I Wore Lately

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds-ish, with a slight hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

I wore this first look to PT last Wednesday. These joggers are my all-time favorites, well worth the spendy price tag. So comfortable, great quality, and the fit is on point too.

They run small; I have the medium.

Afterwards, I changed to take my daughter to a doctor appointment. I kept on the grey tee, but switched into jeans and sneakers and added some jewelry.

I love this tee — it’s pretty basic, but it is soooo soft and just a nice shade of grey. Size up if ordering; I have the medium.

grey Splendid tee // rag & bone jeans (exact/similar) // P448 sneakers

The next day, I had an early morning appointment with my orthopedic doc to follow up on my hip/butt/back issue, which is finally improving. Yay!

After that, I had a mani/pedi appointment, so I kept on the joggers because I could pull them up easily. Of course, I wore flip-flops home from the nail salon.

Vuori joggers // Athleta tee (wearing Volcanic Violet, size S) // P448 sneakers

The next day, I actually did my hair and put on real clothes! Even though I was mostly at home, I wore jeans and a tee. Both are soft and comfortable and have that great lived-in fit and feel.

As someone in my Facebook Group put it so eloquently yesterday: If you wear yoga pants every day, you have no idea how big your butt is really getting… #justsayin

Truer words were never spoken.

FYI, these Paige jeans are 25% off at Verishop with code HIGHSUMMER, with free 2-day shipping and free returns! I take my usual size 28.

Paige high rise straight leg jeans // cut-out tee (wearing Green Motif) // Birks

Okay, this was yet another day at home. I’m losing track of which day was which. #summertimeblues

And I think both the tank and shorts are sold out, but I’ll link them anyway in case of restocks.

Madewell tank // Gap shorts // Birks

And that brings us to Sunday… I wore this floral top and white jeans to church. This blouse is on sale, and fully stocked! It’s really a pretty one. And my go-to white skinnies are on sale too!

floral blouse // white jeans // wedges (old Stuart Weitzmans) // similar bag // cuff bracelet

And I changed into this old tank top and jeans for Sunday afternoon. I was totally lazy… laid around, napped, read, etc. It was lovely!

striped tank (old) // Citizens shorts // Birks // hoops

On Monday, I thought all day I was going to be getting my hair cut, so I didn’t bother fixing it. I did put on makeup, though.

Turns out, my hair appt was Tuesday… d’oh!

rag & bone Vee Tee (size M) // Paige jeans (similar on sale) // Tory Burch sandals // Lucky Brand necklace

And yesterday, I did absolutely nothing with myself. I didn’t even take a picture. I woke up to rain and gale force winds, and by lunchtime we were without power.

The sun was shining brilliantly by mid-afternoon, but we are still waiting on power to be restored… good times! I sure do wish I’d bothered to wash and fix my hair on Monday.

Oh, well… if all goes well, I will finally get to the salon tonight for my cut and color. *crossing fingers*

Meanwhile, I’m off to Nordstrom to shop the Anniversary Sale with a ball cap on… and a mask, of course. At least they have A/C and WiFi, right?

Wish me well!

  1. Oh wow, you do have a good attitude after all that’s been thrown at your 25th anniversary! We’re in NC and fully expected to lose power but thankfully did not. So grateful because temps have been in the 100s with high humidity the last 3 weeks and our last hurricane outage lasted 6 days. Been through this so many times that I’ve become a bit of a Boy Scout like your husband. I have a whole list of things to prepare in the 3 days before the hurricane hits. Grocery shopping for easy prep foods, all ice packs frozen for cooler, gas in cars, cash from ATM, all laundry done and dishwasher run. Drives my husband a little crazy in the process but at least we’re as prepared as we can be! Hope your power is back very soon!

    1. Thanks, Kelly. I try. No sense getting my panties in a wad over things I can’t control. So glad you didn’t lose power this time. We don’t get many hurricanes and rarely lose power, so I’m not in the habit of preparing like that. This new house, though, is on well and septic, so definitely a different ballgame when we DO lose power. We may have to invest in a full house generator at some point, but as sure as we do, we won’t lose power again for years, haha!

  2. Jo Lynne I love your get up and go attitude! You sure do keep it real which is why I enjoy following your blog. I hope you enjoy your day at Nordstrom and have a chance to celebrate your 25 th Anniversary! We just celebrated our 31 and I can tell you not every year did we get out or away and do something over the top.. sometimes we were at our kids sporting events cheering them on and that was ok and celebrated a week later lol… it’s all good:) I look at the days we have together throughout each year . Wishing you and Paul the best today.
    Karen 💕

    1. Yes, many anniversaries were spent that way! I had high hopes for 25 being extra special, but it is what it is. We do have reservations at a cool French restaurant on Sat nite… hoping that works out.

  3. Happy anniversary! It will certainly be one to remember. It is your love that makes the day and year and marriage.
Do the white Madewell jeans run true to size? I am thinking of ordering them.
Have a wonderful day! Hope you have power soon!

      1. Thank you! I may order them and try them. I usually wear 28 in Loft jeans, so I’ll see how these look.
I have had such a hard time finding good white jeans that fit and that are not see-through. These look great on you.

          1. I ordered 2 sizes just in case. I joined their insider or whatever they call it so I get free shipping.

  4. Happy 25th Anniversary!!! It’s sure to be one you’ll never forget….
And have fun doing some shopping for us gals!  We survived that unpronounceable storm as well, 5” in my rain gage and some wind but that’s about it up here in my area of NE PA. My morning adventure is a skin cancer checkup, fun times!  Better safe than sorry though, as I’m from the generation that opted for baby oil as sunscreen, 🤔 #whatwerewethinking

    1. Thanks, Gina. And yes, I get those checkups regularly too. Melanoma on both sides of my family, so I’m high risk. No baby oil but I definitely have had my share of sunburns over the years. #ooops

  5. You have such a great attitude!  Some days during this quarantine are better than others. I have a pity party for a moment and then realize all I have to be grateful for. Enjoy the A/C at the mall, it’s not underrated!  Happy shopping.

  6. Happy anniversary. If you made it to 25 and are still happy nothing else matters. I was feeling a little fed up with 2020 this morning and your post made me feel better. It was a pep talk of sorts. Ha. I love that you are so real. Sorry about your hair appt but at least not like covid closing. Can’t wait to see your try on. Have a good day.

  7. Happy anniversary! Hope you’re doing something fun to celebrate. Your positive attitude is infectiuous.

  8. We were supposed to be in Australia for our 25 th wedding anniversary this week,  so I can empathize with you!

  9. So glad you guys are okay. Hurricane season is upon us and it seems like we have one somewhere every week. Last week it hit the Texas coast and we got some rain from it in SA but it’s due to our climate change and if you want to watch a good series on this on Netflix it’s called Down to Earth with Zac Efron. Have fun shopping and happy anniversary. I know this year hasn’t been the best but it won’t last forever. We will get through this 💕

  10. My husband & I celebrated our 25th anniversary at home due to him having knee replacement surgery a few days before our anniversary. I joked & told him this was definitely in the “in sickness & in health” category of our wedding vows!!! I love your “What I Wore” daily look posts!

  11. Happy Anniversary, 25 years is an amazing accomplishment.  Celebrate all the wonderful things you have had because of each other, life is good…even though 2020 really seems like a test!  I loved this post!  I enjoy when you get real!  I must say it doesn’t seem to matter what you are wearing, you are still gorgeous!

  12. you are keepin’ it real…..love that! Happy Anniversary! Its the best Day ever, as you said. All the swirl of good, bad, ugly, and treasured days gathered together.

I have faith that you will see Paris!

    Loved Paul’s post too.

  13. Happy Anniversary! It’s mine too. 🥂 Are you doing anything special? I didn’t make a reservation so getting into our fav restaurant might be a no go.

I just can’t get excited about shopping. It’s still too warm and once fall arrives, where will I wear these new pieces with Covid? 🤔 Plus, I want to drop some of the weight I gained while being home. I bought a Fitbit Monday and it is motivating me to get out and power walk 2/3 times a day. I can do this!!!

    1. We have reservations at a really cool French restaurant on Sat night… hoping it works out. A bit nervous about dining inside, but it’s a small place, and supposedly they are following protocol. Good luck with the Fitbit!

  14. Your wonderful, positive attitude is inspiring! Thank you!
I hope your power is back on soon.
    Happy Anniversary!

    1. You are sweet. I think I’m more resigned than positive, but I guess that’s better than angry, right? 🙂 We got power back late last night, but more rain expected today, sooo… I hope it doesn’t wreck more havoc.

  15. Happy #25! Your anniversary will be a memorable story to tell your grandkids some day! HA!!! Looking forward to your recommendations after visiting the mall today, and I hope you are able to get your hair appointment rescheduled! Enjoy this beautiful day (the day after a storm is always spectacular!) and hopefully your power will come on soon.

  16. Dealing with the hurricane issues,,,flooding, no power, etc. Is somewhat a “normal” occurance that people can prepare for. I personally would rather deal with that, than this COVID the entire world has and won’t go away.

  17. Hope you have a great day and Happy Anniversary! I think you put it best when you said it is not just about one day, but all the days that got you here. We had an anniversary trip to New York that we had to put on hold a few years ago, but when we did finally get to go, it was amazing. So many good memories. Here is to your rescheduled trip (whenever that may be). 🙂

  18. Happy 25th wedding anniversary! Love your positive, “get it done” attitude. So sorry you lost power. It seems like this year is testing all of us. Good luck at Nordstrom.

  19. Just want to let you know how very much I appreciate your posts! I love your fashion posts, but I also love, love, love your posts that talk about keeping things positive and real, especially nowadays. This year has been hmmmm, I’m not really sure how to describe it without inserting a swear word 🙂 but one for the record books, at least. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts today! Looking forward to your finds at the #nsale! Wishing your a wonderful day, hurricane fallout and all!!!

    1. Thanks, Sandy. Honestly, I’m more resigned than taking it in stride, but trying to keep looking at the bright side. For now, just thankful to be healthy amidst this Covid craziness.

  20. Happy Anniversary! Also getting a cut/highlight tonight, but this will be my third haircut since Illinois started opening up. Honestly, the first time I had it done after going so many months without, it was absolutely amazing…so enjoy!

    1. I can’t wait. I did get a color a while back – a friend did it for me. But I haven’t had the full-on treatment since February. I’m very much looking forward to it.

  21. Happy Anniversary!!  My husband realized the other day that we had both completely forgotten our 24th Anniversary in July. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

  22. This is a great get real/real life post- and that’s why I love you! Thanks for sharing the real life stuff and your thought process/ attitude check into gratefulness! I have the same moments myself and it’s great to know I am not the only one😂. Love your positive attitude and thanks for shopping for me and helping me try to stay relevant! Happy Anniversary! Hope you enjoy NSale as much as I enjoy your posts❤️

  23. JoLynne, this post, beginning to end, is why I follow you (and continue to follow when I have no money to spend on clothes).
Happy Monumental and Memorable Anniversary! ❤️

  24. Happy Anniversary. 25 yrs is certainly something of which to be truly proud. Congrats!  Loved your analogy. Everything is what we make it.
We lose power frequently and installed a natural gas generator 10 yrs ago that automatically turns on within a minute of power failure. We are often away so it provides peace of mind. Also sooo nice when we are home. Like magic.
I love this post because it’s realistic and I’m pretty sure we can all relate. I sit here in my stretchy cropped workout leggings, tee & hoodie as I write.  Seinfeld had a comment about sweatpants (that I now associate with all stretchy bottoms). “It’s like telling the world you give up”. I always think about that when I’m tempted to wear leggings too many days in a row. Leggings lie but my skinny jeans do not.

  25. Happy 25th Anniversary!  Boy, think of the stories you have to tell!  Hoping you make it to Paris someday, when all this craziness calms down.  Enjoy your time at Nordstrom.  Looking forward to your reports!

    1. I hope so too, but honestly, at this point I’ll be happy just to get “normal” life back — dining out, kids in school, no masks, etc. Travel suddenly has lost its allure, but maybe it will come back when things settle down.

  26. I loved your thoughts about marriage and your attitude about celebrating 25 years in crazy conditions! It was so well said! You are such a great example of marriage and family! I married a boy scout too and am so grateful he learned the skills he did. Hope you have a great anniversary! Happy 25. 🙂

  27. Happy 25th Anniversary to you and Paul!!
Wishing you both many  more years of happiness and love!!😊🎊❤️👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  28. It’s a little after 4p, and I am hoping that y’all have power and cell service now.  Happy Anniversary!  I really do like the joggers and have contemplated ordering a pair, but I already have so many pairs in my closet that I really enjoy wearing, so I’ve refrained.    I hope that you enjoyed your shopping time in Nordstrom.

  29. From the page of 25th wedding anniversaries gone bad, it could be worse!  My husband and I were on a cruise, all dressed up for a photo.  When I placed my left hand on my left shoulder for the pose, I felt something odd in my anniversary band (I had been wearing as a wedding ring since out 10th anniversary) was split completely in half right between the diamonds!  HOW does that happen?  On the actual day of our anniversary!!  We’re happily retired now and living the good life lol!  Of course we relocated from northern Virginia to Georgia in the middle of COVID, but that story is for another time.  You look so beautiful in your cap and ready to take one for the team!  Go Jo Lynne!

    1. Gah!!! That’s terrible. Yeah, things can always be worse, I suppose. Still no power or WiFi but at least we got a 2nd generator and hooked up the well pump so we can flush the toilets and take showers. I’ll take it!

  30. Happy Anniversary! What a crazy few days y’all are having. Your attitude is great about it all. Can I just add, I was shocked when you said y’all don’t have A/C.  Do you mean you don’t have it because of the hurricane issues or just don’t have it? I’m in the South, so the thought of no A/C is scary! Lol

  31. Happy 25th Anniversary ♥️ I love that you are so down to earth. We will celebrate our 60th anniversary on August 28th. We always have stories to tell. Lol

  32. I got an email from Verishop that my size was available in the Paige Hoxton Jeans, but there are no returns. So now I’m not sure if I should order or wait for them to go on sale at Nordstrom. Do you think Nordstrom would price match? I’m wearing my Paige Sarah light-wash high-rise cropped slims today and I absolutely love them. I love the small back pockets on Paige denim; so flattering.

    1. Hey girl, sorry not to answer sooner. I don’t dare advise anyone to order something on final sale – it’s so hard to know but I will say that Paige is generally very good to me, and these are right on point. If you like the styling, I think you’ll love them. Definitely reach out to Nordstrom about price matching. Worth a shot.

      1. Okay- I’m going to call Nordstrom today and see if they’ll price match. I have another pair of Paige jeans that I love (I think they’re the Cindy or maybe Sarah…can’t remember- would have to go look 😆) but I have the size 28 and they fit perfectly, but you never know with different styles even within the same brand. I appreciate your feedback!

  33. Happy Anniversary.  Hope you had fun at the NS sale and getting your hair done.  Love your attitude and the pic with your Starbucks.

    1. No hair yet, didn’t get power back till midnight last night. GAH! Hair salon should be up and running now too, supposed to go tonight. BUT expecting more rain and t-storms today… so we shall see.

  34. Happy 25th! You know what they say, “the couple that self-isolates together, stays together”
This is certainly one for the history books!
Looking forward to your N sale finds – I’ve been wearing a baseball cap (for the first time ever) lately, too.

  35. Happy Anniversary! You have overcome many obstacles for 2020, but you have met them gracefully. Blessings to you and your husband and family.

  36. Happy 25th Anniversary a day late Jo-Lynne!! I hope you had a nice evening with your husband celebrating in some fun and romantic way. 🙂
We are having all our kitchen cabinets painted and can’t wait to go from a medium maple color wood to a beautiful white. I missed any and all emails yesterday. Sorry you missed your trip and I can sure relate. We will be celebrating our 30th anniversary and we had a trip planned to Venice Italy, Croatia and the Greek Isles. We had to cancel everything and are so disappointed. I know that we have so much to be grateful for. We live in sunny Florida close to the beach and enjoy life.
P.S. I really like the joggers and have been looking for a nice pair.
