What I Wore Lately Vol. 14

Happy Saturday, friends. I hope you’re holding up okay. It’s been quite a week.

Please know that the last thing I want to do is trivialize more important things that are happening in the world by continuing to post about fashion, but that is what most of you come here for, so that’s what I’m trying to deliver. I’ll share more from the heart in tomorrow’s Coffee Talk post.

While we’re doing 22 Days of Summer Fashion on weekdays for the month of June, I decided to move my Try-On Hauls and What I Wore Lately posts to Saturdays.

I was going to alternate them each week, but then I thought, why not just post them together? So this is a little of both. Let’s start with the try-on haul.

Try-On Haul: LOFT, Everlane, Vuori, Paige & Boden

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds, with a slight hourglass shape. My usual sizes are 6/28 in pants/jeans, small in tops, and a 6 in dresses. I’ll try to mention the sizes of each piece and how they run, but if I forget any, feel free to ask in the comments.

LOFT Striped Rivera Shorts with 4 Inch Inseam size 6

I don’t know why I ordered these shorts; the LOFT Rivera shorts never work for me, but I was drawn to the fabric… Although when my daughter unpackaged them for me, she said they look like a couch, and now I can’t unsee that. 😂

First of all, these shorts are way too big, even in the size 6. They almost fell down. But they also have a super wide leg opening — LOFT Rivera shorts always do. That’s why I said they never work for me.

I don’t mind how they fit across the bum, but again, I don’t care for how wide they are in the leg opening. The size 4 will probably pull across the bum, so they’re definitely a no-go for me.

That said, if you have more muscular legs or carry more weight there, these might work well for you. Just be sure to size down; they run really big.

I do like this fabric a lot. They’re 100% cotton, lightweight and breathable, and even if they look like a couch, I think the colors and pattern are really pretty for summer.

FYI, LOFT is doing 50% off sitewide with code LOVE, plus $20 Rivera pants and shorts, so these shorts are just $20.

VERDICT: Returning; too big, and just not for me. But a good option for someone!

LOFT Frayed Skinny Bermuda Shorts in Indigo Wash size 6

Now, these fit perfectly in a size 6. If anything , they’re a bit snug, but they’ll probably stretch out with wear. Most LOFT denim does.

These shorts have an 11 1/2″ rise with a 8 1/2″ inseam, and I like the high rise on these because the denim is thick and stretchy, and I feel like it holds everything in.

This 8 1/2″ inseam is nice too — they’re a true Bermuda without being excessively long. Of course, this all depends on your height and the length of your legs, but they work well for me, I think.

They definitely have a narrow leg opening, which again, I like, but if you have more athletic legs, they may not work for you.

I like the dark wash, and the subtle whiskering at the hip. I just don’t care for the contrived frayed hem. I’d rather just cut it off and leave a raw hem. My only concern is that then they’d be shorter than I want… but I may try anyway.

VERDICT: Keeping, and cutting off that frayed hem for a clean raw hem.

LOFT V-Neck Tank Top size S

The material on this tank is so silky smooth, it’s really nice. I checked the fabric content, and sure enough, it’s 95% rayon, 5% spandex.

I typically don’t care for the swing style, but this one is fairly subtle, and it’s nice for a change — especially for those days when you’re feeling the bloat.

I also love how this top fits around the arms and across the chest. No bra showing around the arm holes, and it doesn’t gape or anything. Also, while it’s white, there’s no significant show-through.

VERDICT: Keeping!

LOFT Daisy Midi Skirt size S

I’m always drawn to these satiny midi skirts cut on the bias, but they really do not work for my body. I look like a big rectangle, even with a fitted top. I took this picture with a front-on angle so you can see what I mean.

I mean, I suppose if I stand the right way and suck in my gut, it’s okay… but that isn’t really practical. By the way, this is with the tank folded under, to get the right length.

I tried a front-tuck, but it still feels kind of boxy, and I feel like it draws attention to my middle… although I was extremely bloated the day I tried this on. (Sorry if that’s TMI, but it’s been a rough week for the peri-menopause!)

So then I did what I always do when I want to create a more pleasing silhouette — I added a denim jacket for structure.

Better, I guess, but I still don’t think I’ll ever feel comfortable enough in this skirt to wear it. It’s such a pretty print, though. I hope it works for someone!

also wearing: LOFT tank with Vince Camuto jean jacket and similar slides

VERDICT: returning

LOFT Dolman Tie Waist Midi Dress size S

I ordered this dress like two weeks ago, and it finally came in! I really like it — it pretty much defines effortlessly chic. The material is a soft jersey knit that’s 56% rayon, 36% polyester, 8% spandex.

It has a straight, relaxed silhouette with a removable tie waist, and it’s a midi length with side slits. The short dolman sleeves are a nice touch.

I do wish it was an inch or two longer, though; because it ends at the widest part of my calf, which is generally a no-no.

I don’t know, what do y’all think? I might like it better with a flat slide, but I put on these wedge espadrilles because I thought they made a nice contrast with the navy blue.

also wearing: Dolce Vita wedges and Fort Collins boho cuff

VERDICT: Keeping? I think.

Everlane The Denim Button-Front Pencil Skirt size 29

I’m so bummed this skirt is almost sold out, but I’ll share it for the heck of it. It is one I requested weeks ago, and it finally came in this week.

(Full disclosure: Everlane invites me to choose a couple of their pieces each month to review. I am under no obligation to post, unless I want to. Everything else in this post, I bought and paid for myself.)

This skirt really is denim skirt perfection. It’s the perfect medium blue wash, I love the retro button front and A-line shape.

It’s supposed to hit right at the knee, but it’s a tad longer than that on me, but I don’t mind it. I kind of like this length for a change.

And here’s one more shot; I’m sharing mainly because of the adorable photo bomber in the background. 🐶

also wearing: Everlane rib cap sleeve tee with Tory Burch sandals

VERDICT: Keeping!

Paige Jax Denim Bermuda Shorts size 28

You may remember that I shared these in my last Try-On Haul, but they were the size 29 and a little too big. I re-ordered the 28 when they were on sale.

Unfortunately, this pair came with a crooked zipper, which I think you can see pretty well here.

They’re also verrrry low-rise, which I don’t remember bothering me in the last pair, so I looked it up, and supposedly it’s 9 1/2″, but it sure doesn’t feel that way.

Maybe because this pair is tighter, it just feels a little low to me. I think I’d always be trying to pull them up. Isn’t it funny how quickly we get used to the new styles? I used to love an 8″ rise, and now anything less than 10″ feels low to me.

On the plus side, these shorts are made of a thick 98% cotton, 2% spandex, and they aren’t see-through at all. They have a 10″ inseam, so they’re a true Bermuda length, and they fit pretty close to the leg, the way I like it.

Sizes are getting depleted at Nordstrom, but there are more sizes at Saks and Amazon.

also wearing: rag & bone The Slub Tank (size M) with Birkenstock Madrid sandals

verdict: Returning; re-ordering and hoping for a straight zipper.

Vuori Ripstop Shorts size M

Because I love my Vuori joggers so much, I ordered these ripstop shorts, thinking they might be a nice comfy loungewear short for summertime, but they’re actually rather stiff.

I ordered the small and the medium, and I definitely need the medium. Even these pull funny across my hips.

They’re a nice length, though, and the design is really cute. They’re made of 98% cotton, 2% elastane; and they have a 3 1/2″ inseam. This is the Army green, but they also come on Charcoal and Copper.

They do have a working button and an elastic waistband as well as the tie. I don’t need the tie to hold them up, but it does have the trademark Vuori stripe, which is a fun detail.

If you like to hike and need a good pair of activewear shorts, these are probably worth a try. But if you’re looking for around-the-house comfort, as I am, I’d keep looking.

VERDICT: returning

Boden Odilie Jersey Dress size 8

FYI, Boden is currently 15% off with free shipping and free returns; the sale price shows up in cart.

This dress is really pretty, but I’m not sure it flatters me as much as some others I’ve tried.

It feels really nice on, though. It’s made of a super soft viscose with a hint of stretch, and it skims the body with a drapey fit-and-flare silhouette.

I really like this yellow pattern too. It also comes in two solids and two other prints, and it runs small. I sized up to the 8. It also comes in petite and tall sizes.

VERDICT: returning

Boden Giselle Jersey Dress size 8

This dress is made from a soft, textured slub jersey cotton; and I really like the semi-fitted shape as well as the v-neck and button-down front. The deep pockets and fixed tie belt give it some utility details.

Here’s a look at the back. My only complaint is the length; I wish it were longer.

I could try the long size, but I’m afraid it would be cut too deep under the arms and maybe too long in the waist, but maybe it’s worth a shot.

Also, it fits really nicely around the arm holes. I know I always mention this, but so many sleeveless tops and dresses gape or show my bra.

I really like this deep marine blue; such a pretty color, and it should flatter almost anyone.

also wearing: similar Nine West sandals

VERDICT: Undecided. Is it too short?

Okay, moving on to my daily outfits from the past week or so…

What I Wore Lately

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds, with a slight hourglass shape. I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe unless otherwise noted.

This first look is one I wore after a photo shoot with Alison. It was a really humid day, and my hair frizzed out while we were shooting. I love this floral tee, but it runs small. I’m in the small, but I probably should size up. Also, it’s 50% off today!

LOFT wildflower tee // Levi’s jeans // Tory Burch sandals // Anna Beck pendant

I wore this next outfit to PT. I usually wear some version of this.

Lululemon tank // Vuori hoodie (more sizes) // Lululemon joggers // Nike sneaks // specs

After PT, I changed into this top and shorts for the rest of the day.

LOFT dolman top // Kut from the Kloth shorts // Marc Fisher sandals // Lagos earrings

Last Saturday, my dad was here, and I decided to dress a little nicer than usual. I love this top, but it’s almost sold out.

I even added some statement earrings and a two-tone bangle.

Sanctuary top // AG white shorts // similar Nine West sandals // earrings // bracelet

And this was Sunday, I guess. It wasn’t quite as warm as Saturday.

Treasure & Bond tee // rag & bone Cate skinines (more options) // Birks

Another PT appointment…

Lululemon tank // Vuori hoodie (more sizes) // Vuori joggers // Nike sneaks

These are getting out of order, but no one cares, right? This was the day D and I visited Paul’s mom.

LOFT henley tee // rag & bone Cate skinines (more options) // similar Nine West slides

I threw this on for a day of working from home, and I think I ran to the grocery store at some point. Loving these yellow shorts for a change.

WHBM shorts (size 4) // AllSaints tee // Tory Burch sandals // Anna Beck pendant // Stella & Dot bracelet

This was the day of my allergy testing… fun times.

For anyone who’s been following along, I am definitely allergic to dogs, which I knew because pugs kill me. Cats showed up, but not as strong as dogs, which is weird b/c I am soooo allergic to cats. Dust mites and ragweed came in very strong, some molds and grasses and trees reacted slightly.

But there were lots that didn’t really show up, and I was supposed to have those retested (that’s the typical procedure), but my reaction to the dust mites was so strong they wanted me to come back in two weeks to finish up.

This cardigan is really nice and lightweight for mild summer days, and like everything at LOFT right now, it’s 50% off.

LOFT floral henley tee // LOFT shirttail cardigan // rag & bone Cate skinines (more options) // Tory Burch ballet flats // Anna Beck pendant

I threw this on after a photo shoot with Alison, and I had to take R to an ortho appt later that day. I know, for being on stay-at-home orders, I do get out quite a bit.

AllSaints tee // Gap shorts // Birks // Kendra Scott hoops // Lagos necklace

Finally, what I wore to last night’s graduation party with friends from my old neighborhood…

When I got dressed earlier in the day, I tried to jazz it up a bit with a Victoria Emerson bracelet, and I wore slides.

But then the heavens opened up, and it started to rain. Of course it did. It’s 2020, after all.

So I changed into leather sneakers so I could walk in the wet grass.

I also changed my bracelet because the other one seemed like a bit much with the sneakers. Probably silly, but I’m an over-thinker!

LOFT dolman top // rag & bone Cate skinnies (other options) // Veja sneakers // Lagos earrings and necklace // Talbots bangle

  1. I love that yellow Bodin dress on you…yes it’s different than what you normally wear but it was so nice on you. A comfy dress just to throw on for at home or going out.

Also, I know you personally prefer shorter tops/blouses/tshirts and that is what you believe works best on you….BUT, a lot of us (I’m assuming) that are in the age bracket of your followers have tummy issues that need to be more covered. So while its awesome to see your personal style and what you prefer it would also be nice to see longer tops/blouses/tshirts as well, (without a disclaimer that you don’t like it because you know…power of suggestion) so that we can incorporate that styling into ideas and suggestions for those of us that need to cover up this area.

and one more thing….yes we come here for fashion and yes the world is heavy right now but its overwhelming if EVERYWHERE we look its about the heavyness. I crave normalcy and positive things along with keeping myself informed but I don’t expect my favourite fashion bloggers to be experts on the other topics that are currently surrounding us. We all have the freedom of choice to read where we want and if someone feels that this is too frivolous for them at the moment, then yes that is a personal choice but man Jo-Lynne I just love a break from it all to go and see/read fashion, home and all the things that can ground me during these times.

    1. Yes, we can be concerned and aware of what is going on in the world without immersing ourselves in it 24/7. In fact, it’s just not healthy to do that. But I like to at least acknowledge that there is more to life than fashion.

As far as the longer tops, I hear you, but I don’t think it does a service to anyone to try on a top that isn’t flattering and pretend to like it. I know you didn’t quite mean it that way, but that’s how it would feel to me. 🙂 Also, longer tops aren’t always the answer – they may be, but not if they throw off your proportions or don’t work for your body. A better solution is layering (I know, but summer…) and structured pieces that help re-shape or camouflage that area. I actually do have a belly, but I find that shorter, more fitted tops usually look better than the longer ones.

All that said, your feedback is noted. I will see what I can find. 🙂

      1. Another idea is shorter tops that have a looser fit at the belly— peasant style, empire waist, banded hem, etc.  Anything that has a little bit more room in that area without being too loose or baggy.  I’m a petite pear, don’t normally have the belly problem but did when I gained weight a couple years ago.  I can’t wear tunics bc the overall length is wrong for my height, and as a pear I don’t want a hemline hitting at my hips.  So I focused on shorter tops that were fitted in the bust and shoulders but not belly.  Hope this helps!
Btw jolynne, I agree that the navy dress hits you at the wrong spot on your calves, but have you considered having it altered to be shorter?  It’s so pretty and other side flattering!

  2. Hey there – a couple of questions; what size Vuori joggers did you get? I am a little bigger than you, so I usually size up one size from whatever you get 🙂 Also, why don’t you like wide leg pants? I bought the Ponte Black wide leg pants from Loft recently. The smalls were slightly too small, and the mediums lay perfectly, but the waist is too big, so I am having the waist tailored – with the tailoring and sale price, the final cost was still LESS than the full price of the pants. I don’t know, I think wide leg pants would look great on you. What do you think?

I like what the other person who commented had to say about our current times, it is heavy and I enjoy escaping with your posts, even if it’s just for a bit. Keep it up, please (but really, do what works for YOU). Cheers!

    1. I got the size M in the Vuori joggers. I tried the small, and they just were a little too snug.

I don’t look good in wide pants b/c I’m wide in the hip area already, and they just hang straight and make me look like a big rectangle. 🙂 Also, they tend to have elastic waistbands, which also don’t seem to work for me. They add visual bulk or something, and finding a top that works with them is a pain. I can order some and show you what I mean! 🙂

      1. Thanks for the sizing tip on the Vuori joggers. I’ve been ordering so much lately, but I really want to try these.

LOL – You don’t have to order wide leg pants for me, you’re great with proportions and nobody wants to look like a rectangle, even me.

  3. The blue Boden Giselle dress is NOT too short. It’s a good length on you. I think some dresses and skirts now are too long or awkward length and can look dumpy. I’d keep it. When the weather gets hot you will like the length. I’m going to check it out but I’m 5’3” so it might be too long for me. Great post. You must be having nice weather to wear shorts so often. I really like your yellow shorts with the grey t shirt picture. Rain just came this morning for NW Oregon and looks like staying awhile. :(. Even snow predicted in the mountains down to 4000 ft. Crazy. We had been having mild sunny mid 60’s or better. I’m ready for summer now that things are starting to open up.

    1. I’ll hold onto it and see how I feel when it comes to wearing it somewhere. It does come in petite, by the way.

Yes, we’ve been having some really warm days. It’s going to be 84 today.

      1. I agree with Kathy about the Boden Giselle dress. It looks fabulous on you. You have great legs. Wear this with pride! Somewhere down the line, with age, comes not so great looking knees 😂. I still tend to ignore them, however, because midi styles make me look dumpy.

Please, please keep giving us an escape from all the heavy news. Our mental health requires it.

  4. Great post! I love the yellow shorts (but a tad too short for me) and the yellow dress. I guess I love yellow☀️  I’m glad you said the floral top from loft ran small. I got it and thought it was just me. I need to either return or exchange. I also got the shorts and the fraying bothered me as well. Haha! Regarding your allergies. A while back when you were having dizziness I messaged you about allergy testing because I experience vertigo and it was related back to allergies. And what I didn’t mention at that time is my big reaction was to dust mites! So much that they had to give me a Benadryl at the doctor’s office to combat the swelling and itching I had. Yay😐  I take daily OTC allergy meds and also  prescription nose spray when my allergies get bad. Usually fall and spring. Maybe because I have seasonal on top of the indoor allergies. Anyway, just thought I’d weigh in. Maybe your vertigo is related and something you may want to mention to the allergist. Good luck finding answers or at least relief! Hang in there. Also, I enjoy your blog and emails for your fashion and your good heart!

    1. That is SO interesting! I am having vertigo today, and I was around a cat last night, and had some mild asthma, and I have some residual allergies this morning. I was just thinking it seemed allergy related. I will definitely mention it when I follow up.

  5. I wanted to ask about the miller sandals.  I like the ones you have on here, are they the patent leather?  And I think I’ve noticed you wearing different colors before, what neutral color do you like best?  Also, the Birkenstock’s you’re wearing are so cute! I wanted to ask how comfy they are and if they’re hard to keep on your feet.  I’m just wondering since they have only one strap if they’d be hard to walk in.

    1. Yes, I do have the Millers in a few colors. This is Makeup, and it’s my favorite. Sand Patent is more yellow, but still a great neutral, and SO durable. They still look new, for real. I wear to the beach, the pool, anywhere and everywhere. The Makeup I save for when I want to look nicer, and I do love the color. I have gold too. But I like Makeup best. Some people have to size up half but I wear my regular size 8.

The Birks stay on my feet a lot better than I expected. They took a little breaking in, but I got used to them pretty quickly. I did buckle them on the tightest setting.

  6. Hi Jolynne!
These try-on and what I wore posts are some of my favorite. I have a similar build to yours (5’4″/133/30DDD with a slight hourglass shape) so you’re like my personal fit model (lol)! I also like that you show how the clothes fit from several angles. It’s all very helpful in gauging how a garment might fit on me. On top of that you share the shopping links – what could be better?😊

I love what you do and I’m so happy you keep it to fashion and lifestyle. I found a few fashion bloggers to follow in these past few years whose style I like and stopped subscriptions to fashion magazines. First because I feel like bloggers are more in touch with wearable fashion and second because I didn’t appreciate the editorial content of the magazines. The assumption is that women all have the same viewpoint on politics and world affairs and that is simply not true. I found/find that assumption annoying and divisive so I chose to stop subscribing.

I like what your previous commentor Sharon said on this topic – I really can’t say it any better.
Please keep doing what you do. I will definitely keep reading.

  7. I really like the Loft denim shorts!  It is interesting how once we get used to a high waist on our bottoms, everything else just doesn’t seem as comfortable.  While I like the dresses you tried on, I think you can find some that flatter you more.  Savannah is definitely a cutie.  I hope y’all are having decent weather today.

  8. Thank you for staying true to yourself while you also let us in to your life just a bit to see the cost of achieving the balance. I think you are actually serving as a pretty awesome role model (for us as well as your kids!).

I know there are days when I think fashion is too trivial and other days when I can’t stand one more news alert and I’m ready to immerse myself In that same fashion. We are all just trying to figure it out and I pray we give each other grace to do just that.

AND….for what it is worth, I love the Boden marine blue dress on you, including the length!

  9. Had to speed-read this today but I’ll circle back later when I have more time. I see several cute outfits. Thanks for all you do. You bring joy and a comforting norm to my day.  I’m grateful.  These are difficult times and I take it very seriously but you provide a mental balance for me. 🤗

  10. You look gorgeous in everything you wear but I gasped when I saw you in the blue Boden dress!   Gorgeous!    And I bet it would look good styled with your street sneakers too!   I have prayed for you these last few weeks with the issues you’ve shared.    May God continue to bless you and your family!

  11. I’m sitting in my backyard here in NE Ohio watching the tree pollen fly in the air along with the cottonwood seeds (allergy sufferer’s nightmare!) and I had a couple of LOL moments while reading your post. Between the little photobomber and you comparing yourself to a rectangle, I was giggling AND appreciating the chance to giggle! Please continue to do what you do. On a personal note, you’ve helped me tremendously while I curate my closet and that, in turn, helps me get the most for my dollar. Thank you for the bright spot you give your readers.

  12. I was just curious what the difference in this red skirt and the leopard one you like and styled recently? They seem similar to me but you don’t think this one is flattering.

    1. Fair question. Not much. I think the black top may have been more forgiving, making the leopard a little better, but neither fit me great. I kept the leopard but not sure I’ll end up wearing it. Maybe I should try with a more form fitting top – the Everlane one.

  13. Thank you so much for putting some sunshine and distraction in our life.
It’s nice to think about something good for a few minutes.
I start my day with coffee and your blog.
Thank you and please keep up the good work and most of all a great attitude. Barb!

  14. Great round up today! I love that pink top on you and the ‘couch print’ shorts look much better from the back. It seems like dress lengths are all over the place this summer and you look good in all of them. Thanks for sharing your style with us on your supposed to be day off.

  15. I just started following you. My husband and I are both Air Force veterans, blessed to live and travel all over the world.  We pay attention to news everywhere, and truly feel deep pain for our country/world.   However, I can honestly say that after finding you and Cyndi, I look forward to checking my email every morning. I save you two for after reading the news. You’re like my dessert! 0f course since I’ve been following you, a lot of my emails are order confirmations😻 I love all things fashion, especially jewelry and handbags. I’ll be 56 Wednesday and still learning about life, fashion, everything.  Thank you for sharing your heart, while sharing fashion. We can do both. I have a few ?? about items, but will ask later. Again, thank you for what you do. Happy to have found you during this crazy time.

  16. Such great options out there for summer. You look great! Have you ever worn
the Rivera pants from loft? I was going to order my normal size 6 but reviews say they big and bag out .i just wondered if you knew or not?

  17. I really like the Giselle dress and it’s not too short:)  love seeing what you wear these days. The outfit with the cardigan was my favorite. Hope your allergies get figured out:)

  18. Fun looks!  Thanks for sharing!!  Love the yellow shorts and the teal dress!
For the joggers, do you prefer the Lululemon or Vuori more?  How to they compare for fit through the leg?

    1. Hm. The vuori are a little loser and more comfortable. But I like the look of the lululemon a little better. And I could have sized up to an 8 in those. I probably should have. I like that the lulu has no tie waist. They’re more like leggings in the waist so my tops lay flat and smooth. It’s a toss up but probably the Lulu, if I’d sized up.

  19. I loved the blue Boden dress on you & I actually think the navy Loft dress would look better shortened 🙂

  20. Love your try-ons. I’m always in search of new outifts to wear and you provide lots of inspiration. I’m not a fan of the Boden dresses on you. They are Ok, but I think there are others that look better. The blue Boden looks a little short in the waist on you IMO. The color is really pretty though. I loved your white shorts options and I actually just ordered a pair of white jeans form Madewell based on your review. They are on sale right now too! Thanks for all you do.

  21. I think the navy dress and the yellow dress are a bit too long. That’s a hard length, mid-calf, to pull off and it tends to go frumpy.

On the other end of that, if I fear a dress may be too short I do the sit down test. Am I comfortable with the length when I sit down?  For me the answer is usually no.   Hope that helps!

    Have a great Sunday!

  22. I just want to tell you that you look amazing in shorter length shorts. Although you look great in the Bermuda style too, you have such great legs that the shorter length makes them look so long and lean. I also really love the red Loft skirt and white tank with the Jean jacket. Such a classic summer look. How is your hip issue coming along?

  23. Good morning! I noticed your lovely graceful bag in the background. Can I ask- is that the PM or MM size? Thank you! Have a great day!

  24. Though I read your blog every day, I rarely make a comment. But after seeing you in that Boden dress and you questioning if it was too short, I just had to say absolutely not. I’m not a big fan of midi dresses anyway, though I know they can be pulled off with the right shoes and perfect hemming to hit the sweet spot. But I think that Boden dress is pure perfection for you.

  25. For the Rivera shorts at Loft, I always size down, I am normally a 6P (I think that correlates to a regular 4) and I buy size 2 in Rivera shorts. I go possibly also wear that 4s, but the 6s would be huge on me. I have no idea why the sizing on the Riveras is so far off of their normal sizing.

  26. I have the same issue that you have with shorts’ leg openings being too wide.  Last year, I stumbled upon Lee Riders mid-rise denim shorts at Walmart, of all places.  They are amazingly great-fitting shorts!  The leg openings are perfect….close to the leg but not tight.  They are a substantial stretch denim with good back pocket placement (I’d never looked at that until I started following you!)  I don’t usually buy clothes at Walmart but I am sure glad I gave these a try!  I haven’t looked to see if these shorts are still available this year at Walmart.  I look for them on Poshmark and can often score a good deal on there.  Speaking of that, I found a new-with-tags LOFT aqua floral top on Poshmark (that you have styled with white jeans) after I missed getting it before it sold out on LOFT last year.  I was soooooooo excited!  Now I’m really debating on whether to get the White House Black Market yellow shorts…..I love gray tees and have several.  Those yellow shorts look terrific on you with the gray tee!

  27. Hi Jo-Lynne, what size are you wearing in the AllSaints gray tee. It looks really cute with the yellow shorts. I like the color of the Jersey dress and don’t think it is too short (unless you think it might shrink on washing). Thank you for continuing to to post the What I Wore pics. They are my favorite!

  28. Hi, Jo-Lynne, as always, these posts are so helpful. I have to weigh in on the two blue dresses. I think the Loft navy dress looks too big on you. You have a terrific figure and I think it hides it. Now, the marine blue Boden Giselle dress…wow! IMHO, it is not too short and it displays your figure nicely. Thanks for providing a much needed distraction!

  29. Hi Jo-Lynne!
The links in your post don’t work for me.
I appreciate your thorough analysis, pros and cons of each outfit.
Thank you for sharing these try-ons.
