What I Wore Lately Vol. 28

Happy hump day, friends! What I Wore Lately is moving back to Wednesdays, now that 22 Days of Fall Fashion is over.

This is a roundup of my daily outfits from the past week or so. It’s been busy in a mundane sort of way… lots of appointments and shuttling kids to and fro, with a few casual social events sprinkled in for good measure.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds, with a slight hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

WHAT I WORE LATELY

This first look hearkens back to the weekend of the memorial service. It’s from Saturday night, and we went out to dinner with some of Paul’s family.

I wanted to looked polished but not super dressy, so I paired this ribbed camel v-neck sweater with faded black jeans.

These are the Good American Good Legs jeans that I’ve been wearing allll the time. I swear, there is rarely an outfit that I think these jeans won’t look good with. I have to force myself to wear other jeans so I have some semblance of variety to my looks.

I tried it first with my jet black skinnies, which was fine, but I like how the faded black tones down the look and creates some juxtaposition — perfect for the casual venue that night.

For shoes, I went with leopard flats — flats because we would be doing some walking and I didn’t want to be overdressed, and leopard calf hair to add texture and pattern to the outfit.

The pointy toe and 1″ heel keeps them dressy enough for dinner out, whereas I don’t think a ballet flat would have worked quite as well. There are a few sizes left in my pair, and they’re 30% off plus an extra 60% off with code SALETIME. These shoes are really nice quality and very comfortable, but I recommend sizing up one whole size. I needed the size 9.

For other options, J.Crew Factory has a very similar pair of leopard calf hair pointy toe flats, plus there’s these leopard d’Orsay flats as well. I had them last year in a different print, and I found them quite comfortable, considering the price point. I took my usual size 8 in these.

Also, this sweater and this necklace are 50% off I actually ordered the necklace for the express purpose of wearing with this sweater (although I’m sure I’ll find other uses for it) and I love it. Since the camel is so close to my skin tone, I wanted some color to provide some contrast and to flatter my face, and this necklace does exactly that.

Whew! Okay, I promise I won’t write an entire blog post about each outfit. I just felt like that one had a lot of little details that went into making it work.

So this was Sunday, and I wore this to church.

It’s funny to think I was wearing a summer dress and sandals just 10 days ago. Wait until you see what I wore this past weekend…

Anyway. This dress was an #NSale purchase that never came back in stock — at least not in this color. It is, however, available in black and a light grey and currently 40% off, but Bloomingdale’s has a similar version for even less.

That one comes down to $91.14 in cart, so I ordered it, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I’m excited to see how it compares to the Nordstrom version.

I tried it with a few different shoe options… first, these Vionic sandals. But they felt too dark and heavy to me, and a little too dressy with the denim jacket.

So then I tried these strappy snake print sandals with the woodgrain heel… but I wasn’t loving this either. I can’t quite pinpoint why.

By then I was running late, so I decided to throw on my Millers and call it a day.

In looking back at these pictures, I think I like the snake print sandals best, but whatevs. The most important thing is to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. When I’m in a time crunch and I can’t make a decision, I usually fall back on what I know to be tried and true.

Okay, I promise to move more quickly through the rest of these! After church, I changed into these comfy clothes to hang out at home and visit with a friend later in the day.

This is the original Gibson x The Motherchic Beach Burnout Boyfriend T-Shirt, which I love. It is the softest thing, and it has such a good drape.

Well, they just brought it back in three new colors and renamed it the Vibe Check Burnout Boyfriend Tee, and it’s available on the Gibson Look website. I sized down to an XS in this tee.

Also, these jeans are the softest denim. I absolutely love them. They feel like I’ve had them for years. They’re TTS and currently 25% off.

I had a workout and a chiropractor appt on Monday, so I wore my Lululemon Align joggers and Athleta Cloudlight Stratus Tee all day.

That brings us to last Tuesday, and I had a dental appointment. I also needed to shoot one last look for 22 Days of Fall Fashion, so I put this outfit together and had Paul take some pictures out front before I left for the dentist.

That night, I went to a Bible Study with ladies from our church, and for some reason, I totally changed outfits. It clearly got warm in the afternoon, since I’m wearing short sleeves and sandals, but I don’t know why I changed completely. Any-who.

My cheetah tee is 40% off but only avail in the XS. (I’m wearing the medium, for reference.) Amazon has a pretty good dupe for $17, and it’s true to size. The color that looks the most like my ATM version is A-leopard03, but there are other styles and prints available.

I went back to the chiropractor on Wednesday morning, and I threw on this Indoorsy tee and joggers.

Later on, I had to run some errands, and I felt kind of schlumpy in the baggy t-shirt, so I changed into a short-sleeved v-neck tee and denim jacket.

By the way, this is one of my favorite t-shirts, and it’s 30% off right now. Size up, though. I have the medium.

I had an allergist appt on Thursday… I’m finally getting started on my sublingual immunotherapy drops. I threw on this camo pullover and washed black jeans.

I had some errands to run on Friday, and it was rainy so I pulled on this stripe sweater and jeans with my low-heeled leather booties. I recommend sizing down half in these booties.

On Saturday afternoon, I went shopping and out to lunch with a friend, and I fell back on this tried and true outfit. It was chilly so I added the hooded leather jacket.

And here’s a top-down selfie I took outside while I was waiting on my friend to pick me up. I like how you can see the textures and shades of black better in this lighting.

And this is what I wore to church on Sunday. It was verrrry chilly when I was getting dressed at 10AM, even though it ended up being a beautiful, mild fall afternoon, so I pulled out a cashmere sweater and paired it with black jeans and my black suede pumps.

Somehow I lucked out and found this Vince Weekend V-Neck Cashmere Sweater for almost 70% off back in July… I shared it in a Try-On Haul and told you that I would be wearing this all winter.

I don’t have any idea why it was on such a deep discount when it’s still in their lineup and fully stocked this fall, but this is how to build a wardrobe of quality pieces without breaking the bank. I expect to have this sweater for many years.

I ran and worked out on Monday, but afterwards I was a total schlump. I wore my workout clothes the rest of the day with my big fuzzy Barefoot Dreams cardigan on top. It sounds gross, and it is, but I did at least change clothes between running and lifting. #keepingitreal #nopicturesplease

Yesterday, I showered and put on real clothes, but I didn’t wear any makeup. These jeans are back on sale, and I love them but definitely size down if ordering. I have the 27, and I almost wish I had the 26.

Also, these are the cushiest sneakers ever. They’re all on sale again, and I would say they’re TTS, but my feet kind of swim in them. They will definitely work for those with wider/thicker feet.

Okay, that’s a wrap. Tomorrow I’ve got a new fall outfit for you, and then on Friday I’m planning to show a few older looks with modern updates, so stay tuned for that!

  1. Good morning. We have been doing hybrid since school opened in August in FL. We really like it. Everyone is wearing masks the whole time. I send Clorox wipes for him to wipe off his desk at each class and purell on his backpack. Schools seems to be taking everything very seriously. It’s nice for them to have face to face learning. Have a great Wednesday.

  2. I need a new gray t-shirt. Do you prefer the Gibson or the Splendid one, Jo-Lynne? I’m thinking the Splendid would be more of an “all-purpose”, but I do love the burn-out design of the Gibson. And as I try to pay more attention to my wearing/buying habits, I find that I don’t wear the “all-purpose” pieces as much, preferring the “fun” pieces. I have been wearing the R&B jeans non-stop, but am wishing I’d sized down 2 instead of 1, especally since, depending on style, I wear a 30 or 31. I got the 30s but am having to wash them after 2 wears because I end up with a baggy bottom. Not pretty.
    Happy Hump Day!

    1. Lindsey was the first fashion blogger I ever found and followed….I miss her WIWW posts! Thank you Jo-Lynn for keeping me styled and for all the work you put into your daily posts.

  3. Well I didn’t know the story behind what I wore Wednesday 🤷‍♀️. Love these posts and really like the mix of outfits. Glad to hear there is more normalcy coming back. Our son is suppose to have some classes in the new year back on university campus! Let’s see😉.  Our numbers have been really good thanks to our Atlantic Canada bubble so we are headed in the right direction for now! Very thankful for that as we approach our Thanksgiving weekend.

  4. Old Navy has Faux-leather Pointy Toe Loafers and also ballet flats that might be perfect with your dress/denim jacket.

I am short, with a short torso, so wear a lot of tee shirt dresses. I have found ballet flats to work for me. Sandals with heavy straps weigh me down.

  5. Thanks for keeping it real….. Thats what we all love about you! Love all the looks. My husband did the sublingual allergy immunotherapy drops for the prescribed 5 years. It really helped him. He no longer dreads spring time. Yay for that. Good luck with your therapy.

  6. You look beautiful in everything! I love the dress & jean jacket – couldn’t decide which shoes looked best with it – I don’t know how you decide! Love the utility jacket & green camo shoes – too cute!!!

  7. Such awesome news about Becca and the marching band and the modifications to how she will get her education!  I always enjoy these posts!  The style of the Gibson tee is really spot on.  Our weather has decided to keep us confused – today thru Tuesday our highs will be in the upper 80’s, it’s 92 now, and the lows will be in the upper 60’s to low 70’s, with miserable humidity.  It’s not nice of Fall to take a break like this, and force us to turn the AC back on.  I’m glad I kept some shorts in my closet.  I hope you’ve had a good day!

  8. Thanks for these round ups. They’ve taught me to really focus on what activities and events I have coming up in my schedule and then plan outfits in advance that are going to allow me to look and feel my best as I make my way through each day. So much better than winging it when I wake up in the morning and then feeling frazzled, frumpy, or uncomfortable for the rest of the day.

I got the Good American Good Legs jeans today, and I see what you mean. I love them so much that I am worried I will never wear the two pairs of black jeans that I bought only a month ago.

  9. I LOVED What I Wore Wednesday with Lindsey on The Pleated Poppy!  I clicked on every one of those little pics to see everyone’s outfit!  It is how I discovered you and started following you!  🙂  I miss her blog!

  10. Love this post! Will you please share the source of the taupe bag you are wearing with the white denim jeans, striped sweater, and denim jacket? Thank you so much!!

  11. Could you share the source of the ring on your left hand? I have been searching for something like that forever!
