What I Wore Lately Vol. 37

Happy hump day, friends. What I Wore Lately is back on Wednesdays!

This is when I round up my daily outfits and share a little about how they came together and where I wore them.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds (on a good day) with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

WHAT I WORE LATELY

This first outfit harkens back to the first Friday in December… I had an appointment for a mani/pedi so I wanted to wear pants that I can roll up to my knees. (In other words, not my beloved skinny jeans.)

Also, this Christmas graphic tee had just come in, and I wanted to wear it. The salon is always chilly, so I threw a cashmere cardigan on top.

The next day was Saturday, of course, and Paul and I took the girls to a coffee shop to pick up some locally roasted beans, and then we went to the mall for little while.

Coffee is Paul’s new hobby. I guess I can live with that!

I wore my new Naadam cashmere crew with blue jeans and taupe suede booties. Simple, but elevated… at least, that’s what I was going for.

I’ve been trying to take more angles of my daily outfits. What do y’all think? Helpful, or overkill?

This sweater is so luxe and soft… seriously could wear it every day. It’s still on sale, but all sales are final.

I can tell you it runs true to size, and it’s boxy but has some drape. The small is about 24″ long from shoulder to hem, and the sleeve length is generous but not exaggerated.

It was a chilly day, so I wore my favorite quilted jacket on top. I wish Burberry still made this or something similar, but they don’t. The closest I can find is this classic jacket,

A few years ago, I stalked this jacket until Bloomies did one of their Take $25 Off Every $100 You Spend sales (which they actually have going on now) and I snagged it. I’ve worn it almost daily during the fall and winter for the past 4 or 5 years, and it’s still going strong, so I’m definitely getting my cost per wear out of it.

Naadam cashmere crew (S) // AG Farrah skinnies (TTS but I cut an inch off the hem) // Vince Camuto booties (size up; wearing Tuscan Taupe) // Yurman hoops // Burberry jacket option (similar for less)

We had church on Sunday, and for anyone just tuning in, our church is very casual. I still usually dress up a bit out of habit… and because what else do I get to dress up for these days? LOL!

This is the other Naadam sweater I decided to keep from the Black Friday sale. Love the details in the knit, and the relaxed fit. Plus, the softness is out of this world. See my Naadam sweater reviews for more info.

I paired it with black jeans and pumps for a classic look. FYI, these jeans are $25 off at Bloomies right now — not a huge savings, but I wanted to mention it.

They’re actually denim — 98% cotton/2% elastane — whereas so many black jeans have a lot of rayon and stretch and are more like pants. I also like how the raw hem adds some subtle texture and toughness to the classic outfit.

I had a chiropractor appointment on Monday, and it was chilly so I wore a turtleneck sweater with jeans and booties and a vest. I love a monochromatic outfit.

The jeans are the Express luxe comfort knit black skinnies I featured in this post, and they’re marked down to $48. They’re very flattering and hold their shape throughout the day. They run true to size; I have the 6.

And these boots are definitely keepers. They’re super warm but lightweight and comfortable enough to wear all day. See my full review in this post.

I don’t think I went anywhere on Tuesday, but I was cold in the house, so I threw on a sherpa over a t-shirt with blue jeans and the same Sorel boots as the day before.

P.S. This sherpa is on sale, and different colors have different prices. This is the Light Brown Animal Print for $49.99 but it’s low inventory. The Brown Animal Pattern for $51 is similar and fully stocked.

And the next day, I picked those jeans up off the floor and put them on again. Please tell me I’m not the only one who does that…

I had some people ask me about the fit of the Liverpool jeans… particularly the rear view. You guys know me so well! They actually have a fabulous fit from all sides; I took a few shots to show you. Here’s an up-close of the front.

My exact pair with the button fly did sell out, but these are the Abby ankle skinnies, and they come in tons of other options for washes and styles.

And the dreaded rear view…  (Sorry it’s blurry…. taking these shots is hard, yo!)

I like the size and placement of the pockets. They’re not too big, which can flatten out my already wide tush, and they’re not too small, which can make my bum look bigger/wider than it is. And they are perfectly centered on each, ahem, cheek… for lack of a better word.

However they’re designed, it helps to lift and shape because very few jeans look this good from this angle.

Believe me, I take no joy in analyzing my hiney for the Internets, but pocket size and placement can ruin a great pair of jeans, and there really is no better way to illustrate that than to show you the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Fortunately, in this case, it’s all good!

Also, my Tory Burch flats are from last year, but she just came out with a new style in a similar color. The metal logo is kind of blinged out so they’re more expensive than mine were, but I linked them anyway. Maybe they’ll go on sale.

I love to wear burgundy shoes with neutrals like grey, denim, black, and taupe.

And here’s a close-up of the sweater. This sweater is really soft and thick, and I think the taupe color is so pretty.

It has nice, long sleeves too! It’s a bit roomy on me, but I’ve got a feeling it will be perfect after it’s washed once or twice. The fabric is 70% Acrylic, 27% Nylon, 3% Spandex.

Okay, so I was really struggling with these pictures. In trying to get an accurate color of the sweater, the walls look yellow… I dunno!  I figure you’d rather see the sweater the right color than the walls.

I threw on this relaxed sweater with black jeans and boots to run some errands.

My earrings are old, so I linked to other John Hardy hoops. I also added a Victoria Emerson boho cuff.

These jeans fall over top of the front of the boots, but the do sit inside the tab in the back. I’ve tried cuffing, but I like it better this way.

I’m also wearing my Smartwool socks.

I got back from my workout last Friday and snapped a quick pic before I jumped in the shower because I love each one of these pieces. I should have showed you the tank, though. #ooops

Later that day, I went to the salon for a haircut/color… actually, she just did color since it was cut 6 weeks ago and I like the current length.

I threw on this outfit because it was a mild afternoon, and I wanted to wear my Merry Christmas tee.

When I got back, I had R take this picture by our little kitchen tree because I was feeling cute. Of course, we went nowhere that night.

We came **this close** to going out for dinner… it was the night before our restaurants closed for indoor dining. But Paul had a late Zoom meeting, and by the time he was done, I was on the couch with a glass of wine watching Emily in Paris, so we ordered takeout instead. Probably for the best, indoor dining right now makes me nervous.

This one got a little blurry because I was moving when she snapped, but I like how it shows my hair — Nicole straightened my hair with the flat iron. Usually I like it to have more body, so I don’t usually flat iron it, but it looked so sleek and cool.

Oh, and this jacket, you guys. IT’S BACK!!! I am so excited! I love mine and wear it every chance I get, and it’s annoying that I can’t link it, but they brought it back and it’s 40% off… which leads me to believe, they are restocks and it will sell out again. So grab it if you’ve been wanting it.

I have the small, and it fits a little snug, but I can wear it comfortably over a thin sweater.

I threw on my Zella fleece pullover with grey jeans and my Sorel boots to run some errands with the girls on Saturday.

And I wore this dress to church on Sunday.

I’m having the same issue with this dress as I did with that sweater. The lighting gets really funky with my reds and oranges. It’s a little more rust than it shows here.

And that afternoon, I threw on this familiar look to take the girls to the mall. It was actually in the upper 50s on Sunday, and now it’s snowing. So strange.

That brings us to Monday… I have no idea what I did on Monday, or what I wore. I don’t seem to have any pictures, and my calendar is empty. I was probably working all day.

Yesterday (Tuesday, although this is posting so late in the day on Wednesday, most of you will probably be reading on Thursday) I wore this cozy outfit to run a few errands and to the chiropractor.

Clearly, I decided to keep the Lennox shearling boots. I felt like the ones without the shearling looked too combat boot, and these look more winter boot.

I played around with this scarf, but I didn’t end up wearing it. I didn’t think it was cold enough, but then on my way out the door, I realized how cold it actually was, and I swapped the vest for my Burberry jacket. But anyway, this is a cute look, so I’m sharing it.

vest (old) // Naadam cashmere crew (TTS) // similar rag & bone Cate skinnies // Sorel Lennox boots (similar at Nordstrom) // Everlane scarf

Whew! These get so long when I miss a week! Especially when I actually get dressed every day, ha!

I’ve been really trying, even though I’m not going anywhere that matters. I just feel so much better when I put on makeup and wear real clothes.

  1. Love all the looks!  The Zella black – grey pullover suits you well!  The Liverpool jeans are great; very flattering.  Think that the black Sorrel boots are keepers: most functional with our winters.  Hopefully you didn’t get as much snow as they were predicting and have power.  Its crazy how the weather can be so up and down: 50s one part of the week and a blizzard the latter part.  Hope you are all doing well in your part of the world.

  2. FYI- unfortunately I did not have good luck with the Express black luxe jeans you featured above. I bought them right after you shared in your other post as I’d been looking for a faded black jean. I ordered a size 6 Tall and while I loved the color and stretchy feel, I could not button them around my waist; they were SO high waisted they literally came up to right below my lower rib cage. Such a strange fit on me. I looked closer at the rise and it said 12 1/2 inches high, so then I looked at the rise on my Paige and AG and Madewell high rise denim and they’re all between 10” and 11” high which is so much more comfortable for me. YOU must have a tiny waist…..that IF is working for you! 😉

    1. Interesting! They definitely are high rise. I have a very high waist, which is probably why they work for me. I would only wear them with tops untucked over top – a front tuck would look silly. I wore them all day and was impressed that they didn’t bag out, but they were pretty snug in the waist and by the end of the day, I couldn’t wait to get them off.

As far as IF, the body recomposition is supposed to be a real thing. I’ve been keeping track of my waist measurement, to see if it changes even if my weight does not. So far, it hasn’t really, but I do have an hourglass shape — my actual waist (which is very high on my torso) is a full 10″ less than my hips. Of course, most pants don’t hit that high, but these come close!

My belly measurement does fluctuate with diet/monthly cycle, etc. and that is where the waistband of most pants hit, so I definitely feel it when I’m bloated or put on a few pounds.

  3. Yes!  I ordered the Caslon jacket before I finished reading your post. It looks so cool on you but was already sold out when I tried to order it when you first showed it. Hopefully, I won’t get the dreaded email that unfortunately, it sold out quickly and I won’t be receiving it after all. I could not find any of the Abby jeans from Liverpool in my size that were not sold out already. I should have jumped on them the first time. I really like your try-ons because we have similar body types, although I am shorter, and it helps to see how things fit.

  4. I love all the detail in these posts! Please don’t cut them down to less. That’s one of the reasons I follow you….because you give all kinds of detail!! Love all these outfits!

  5. “Believe me, I take no joy in analyzing my hiney for the Internets” – this made me laugh so hard🤣 I appreciate all the photo angles. I know what works on my “hiney” so size of pockets and placement are important to see. It doesn’t hurt that we have very similar shapes.
Thanks for these posts; they’re my favorite.

  6. I just received my Lennox boots (same color as yours) in the mail today and I am in love. Your boot post was so informative and definitely helped make my decision easier. Did I need boots? The answer is a resounding “no”! But I really wanted something trendy, comfortable (which Sorel’s are) and still functional. These fit the bill perfectly.  I will definitely put a protective spray on them because of the lighter fabric, but I can’t wait to wear them.

  7. I love your hair straightened with the flat iron….so pretty!
Thanks for introducing Liverpool jeans. I’m going to take the plunge and order a few pairs to try (I’m still on the hunt for a casual faded black & found one on their website) . I even ordered a pair for my son to try because they offer different inseam lengths and he’s 6’4” and has trouble finding jeans/pants that are long enough. And I read about their eco friendly production and sustainability ….I like that.

  8. Love all these outfit combinations! And it’s nice to see I’m not the only one already getting plenty of wear out of the black Sorel Explorer boots. I have to convince myself to wear something else every couple days! I sized up half and they’re perfect even with wool socks.

  9. Here it is almost Friday night and I have finally been able to sit down and enjoy this post.  While I enjoy seeing several angles of what you wore, if only sharing one picture will help you, I can live with it.  You are so good to respond to inquiries, so if I have a specific question about an item, I will ask.  It was 25 here this morning l which is cold for us.  We had so much frost that it looked like snow.  Unlike the past two days, we actually made it to 50 today and the sun was shining bright.  I just took a cherry pie out of the oven for Larry’s 74th.  After dinner we are going to head out to look at Christmas lights.  Have a great evening!

  10. Hello Jo-Lynne, I enjoy all of your “What I Wore Lately” posts because you DO give lots of information. Other bloggers just show pictures with very little detail. I love that you dissect your outfits and give reasons why you chose each component of your outfit. In this case, more is better! Thanks for all that you do, Jo-Lynne.
