What I Wore Lately Vol. 39

Happy hump day, friends! As is the custom around here on Wednesdays, I’ve rounded up my outfits from the past week.

Of course, this was Christmas week for those of us who celebrate, and while we didn’t have any festive outings as we often do, I did try to dress for the various occasions… such as they were.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds, with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

What I Wore Lately

Last Wednesday, the girls wanted to run to the mall for a couple last minute things, so I went with them.

Cozy and comfy is the name of my game, and this is just another version of my go-to winter uniform. The only question was, sneakers or booties?

I chose sneakers…

And here’s a closeup of the sweater. It’s one of my favorites from this year’s #NSale, but unfortunately, it’s almost sold out.

I topped it off with a quilted jacket and grey scarf… at which point I realized you can’t even see my pretty sweater. Wahhh…

This is why coats are important. I should change mine out more often than I do. But aren’t my red nails a fun, festive accessory?

I spent a few hours on the morning of Christmas Eve working, and then I went for a run and got showered and dressed… to basically go to the grocery store.

Yep! That was my big outing on Christmas Eve. Paul went with me, so we called it a date.

I love this tee, and I’m so sorry I can’t link it. The leather moto adds a bit of toughness but keeps it casual.

To that, I added blue jeans and my grey Sorel wedge boots.

The weather was starting to warm up, but there was still a lot of slush and snow about. I thought these would be practical for running errands and also stylish enough to offset the moto jacket and graphic tee.

The hem of jeans was falling into my booties, and you know how I hate that, so I cuffed them, circa 2018! That does sort of chop up the look, but the t-shirt is a lighter tone as well, so I think it works.

I also wore my Smartwool socks in the Natural color.

Usually we go out for sushi for C’s birthday on Christmas Eve, but restaurants in our state are currently closed for indoor dining, and we were trying to be extra careful all week so we could see Paul’s mom on Saturday, so we did takeout instead.

I changed into a cardigan and slippers for the evening at home.

And this is what I wore on Christmas morning for breakfast and presents.

I always give Paul and the kids new winter pajamas on Christmas Eve, so for the last couple of years, I’ve been treating myself too.

But here’s a funny thing. My mom gave me this exact same pair of pajamas for Christmas. When I opened her present on Christmas morning, I was wearing the same ones.

I’m planning to exchange hers for a different pattern. A girl can always use another pair of pajamas, am I right? By the way, if you need new pajamas, some of these sets are as low as $21 right now.

The slippers are also from her, by the way. I love how they match the pjs.

After we opened presents, I changed into my favorite sweater/jeans/sneakers combo for the rest of the day.

I kept it casual because that’s how we roll on Christmas Day. Dressing up for holiday meals was never part of our family culture, or Paul’s either, for that matter. Even though it sounds like fun to me, I don’t see it starting now.

Oh, and the bracelet was one of Paul’s Christmas gifts to me, and I love it. He picked it out, which makes it even more special. I guess I should have put it on the other wrist to get a good picture.

The day after Christmas, we got together with a few of Paul’s family members for a short visit, and I threw on this simple outfit.

Wow, I’m looking puffy. Time to reign in the holiday eating extravaganza!!!

This angle is always more flattering… see?

If you ever wonder why I stand this way 75% of the time, that’s why.

That brings us to Sunday. I kept it simple, once again. I was running late, and it was cold, so I just threw on this tried and true outfit and dashed out the door. (I took pictures when I got home.)

I decided to class it up with my wool reefer coat, rather than my usual quilted jacket, and I added a red scarf because Christmas!

Here’s the obligatory fashion blogger pose, with my coat unbuttoned to show the whole lewk.

And this is how I really wore it because it was like 25 degrees outside.

When I got home, I changed into my new Zella leggings and this t-shirt Paul gave me for Christmas.

I’m not entirely sure what message I’m supposed to be getting from that one… Good thing I do love Philly!

Okay, so Monday! R wanted to exchange one of her presents for a different size and get some craft supplies with her Christmas money, so I got up early to work and get my run in so I could spend the afternoon shopping with her.

We ended up meeting Paul for a late lunch/early dinner at a local restaurant because the weather was so nice. It was our first time eating out in a few months, and it was wonderful!!!

I would have dressed a bit warmer, though, if I’d known we’d be dining outside in 50-degree weather.

And finally, yesterday… I wore the same jeans with my Zella ribbed funnel neck sweatshirt and these new high top wedge sneakers to go to a chiropractor appt.

I know I’m kind of late to the high top wedge sneaker trend, but I saw them when I was at DSW with R, and I thought they would make a good compromise between boots and sneakers this winter.

When I tried them on, I was sold. They’re sooo comfy, I love the fur trim, and the wedge gives me a bit of arch support too. They also come in black, but I went for the taupe.

  1. I’m Definitely ordering the comfy high top wedge sneakers. I broke my ankle & heel last May and they look like they will be perfect while I’m still healing. Now I just need to decide on the color. Best wishes for a wonderful New Year!

  2. You are always so chic looking –  dressed up, down or anything in between!  May you and your family have a happy & healthy 2021!

  3. The red scarf looks fabulous with the outfit you wore to church on Sunday!  Your new wedge sneakers are fabulous!  And I’m really glad to see you wearing a pair of sneakers with faux fur lining since I have a few pairs with it and had been wondering if they are current.  Great minds think alike – your new pj’s!  We also have rain, possible storms moving in.  Have an awesome day!

  4. Hi Jo-Lynne, As a fellow home-based worker, we have a similar casual style; however, since I live in So-Cal, this time of year I cannot embrace your love of sweaters, boots and coats. But, 2 years ago we went to a wedding in Philadelphia in February so I HAD to buy a ‘serious’ coat and a pair of warm waterproof boots. I wondered if I was overdoing it – I was not! When you agonize over the look of jeans with shoes/boots, etc it affirms my own dilemma. Regarding to cuff or not to cuff, might I suggest cuffing the jeans under instead of out. I do this often when I don’t like the length with the booties or shoes I am wearing. Just a thought, keep up the good work.

  5. What size are your wearing in the Halogen turtleneck?  Your usual small?  Do you find it is a little roomy?  Nordstrom website says they run large and to size down.  Also want to wish you and your family a healthy, safe and happy 2021.  I really enjoy your blog and appreciate all the hard work you do.

  6. You will love your Watch. I am surprised how many uses it has!  I bought it when we had the dog because I got tired of dropping my phone while juggling the leash and poo bags. I recently synced my grocery list with it so now I can shop hands free. I use AnyList.

  7. I really like those Sorel wedges. Zappos is recommending a size two sizes smaller than my usual American shoe size – does Sorel use a different system?
I do not need new shoes, but am tempted by the high top sneakers too, dang it.

    1. That’s odd. I believe mine are an 8. I can check when I get home. I will say that I find Sorel sizing to be terribly inconsistent. I needed a 9 in the duck boot style and an 8.5 in the Explorer Joan.

  8. I am thinking about wedge sneakers too.  How long will they be popular?  Since we go out so little these days, I hesitate to spend on a one season item.  Thanks.

  9. For Christmas I got myself the white northface jacket you styled in the fall. It was only available in black for awhile, but I stalked until I found it. Love it!!!
    Thank you!

  10. Great picks for last weeks dressing.  I wondered why you hadn’t styled the wedge sneaker. Everytime I’ve seen Cyndi style them I think I’d like them but just haven’t tried them. They look great on you. I wish we’d get some real Winter weather now. Why not? Stuck home so much. Today a big rain storm hit the NW and suppose to be wet and like 50’s. Ugh. Oh well, we are healthy. Still trying to decide if I want to take Christmas down. I think tomorrow is the day. My live tree is getting so dry. I’m enjoying the lights though. I think it’s going to be a long Winter. Off to my devotion. I checked out your blog before it. Lol.

  11. I had to smile about the comment about date night going grocery shopping with your husband Christmas Eve… ain’t that the truth nowadays? Grocery shopping and medical appts are the highlights of our week. You have inspired me to pull out my moto black leather jacket.   I meant to compliment how lean you are looking especially from yesterday’s post.  The black t-shirt with taupe shorts outfit in yesterday’s post really exemplifies how well IF is working for you: you are so lean and trim!  Not puffy/ fluffy at all! I realize that post/ look was from the summer months however wanted to compliment on your efforts. You look terrific!  Give yourself grace around the holidays: eating treats is part of the holiday traditions.  Some of my recipes and baking are made only at Christmas time so it is fun to indulge.  Can always wipe the slate clean in the new year.  The high top sneakers are cute! Enjoy your Apple watch.  My hubby loves his.

    1. Thanks, Yelena, yeah, I know. I’m not getting too worked up over it. I will reign it in next month. Oddly, I usually lose weight over the holidays and then gain in spring and summer, but last year, thanks to IF, I lost during spring and summer, so hopefully I will be able to do that again. Plus, I’m exercising more now so that has to help. 🙂

  12. I love all of these outfits!  That pretty red scarf really pops!  I’ve taken to wearing a knit hat and a scarf when I’m waiting for curbside pick up in my car with the hatch up.  Brrr!   I finally found a pair of high top sneakers after ordering and trying on several pair.  These aren’t wedges, but they are so comfy and I find myself reaching for them a lot when I run out for my pick ups.  I usually am dressed so casually, that these are the perfect thing!

      1. I found the OluKai Hawai’iloa Manu Hope high top sneakers.  They are a Hawaii brand and I have several of their sandals and slip on sneakers – my very small, very finicky feet love them!  When I discovered they had the high tops, I jumped on them and sure enough, they fit me well and are very comfortable.  I don’t even have to add my insole because the arch support is already great.   I find that brand on Zappos and Amazon.  These particular ones were from Amazon in the taupe and I loved them so much I also wanted a pair in black.  I did have to order directly from OluKai to get those because I couldn’t find them in my size otherwise.  They are very well made shoes and I highly recommend!

  13. As always I enjoy these posts.. I did manage to get in my jeans a few times over the holidays… let’s just say my leggings needed a break 😉. I really like those wedge fur lined sneakers. I have a pair from Nordstrom that aren’t lined and I love them , in fact it was nice and mild yesterday so I wore them. what brand are yours? Love your bracelet from Paul… he did good!!!!

  14. These are great…I giggled when I saw your black coat and red scarf, in the “blogger pose” and in real life because it’s COLD outside! HA!! (yay, I have commented in the past, saying I want to see coats buttoned up to see how they look/fit)!! I think I bought those same Zella leggings. LOVE!!

    1. Haha, I know! I remembered! I actually took the buttoned-up version first, and the open one was an afterthought. I do like how it shows all the components of the outfit, but it’s not very realistic.

  15. I love the wedge sneaker and picked them up at my local DSW today. I love your style and thank you for introducing me to the Zella brand. It’s features prominently in my work from home wardrobe. Also love your new bracelet!

  16. Thanks for adding your Christmas pajamas on your list. I had emailed about where you got yours because I couldn’t find an earlier post of yours. If you replied to me, I didn’t get it. Anyway, Soma has Cool Night pajamas that I’m thinking about trying because I get so hot at night with hot flashes. Thank you! Happy Blessed New Year to you and yours!

    1. Hi Gaylon, if I didn’t reply, I’m so sorry! Sometimes I read an email on my phone, and it gets buried before I get back to it. 🙂 But yes, I highly recommend these. A lot of others love them too!

  17. I love your necklace in the day after Christmas outfit. I’ve seen it on you a few times lately and love the simplicity. Do you have a link?
