What I Wore Lately Vol. 79

It’s been a while since I’ve shared What I Wore Lately! These pictures span the past three weeks or so, and our weather has warmed up here in Philly so I’m finally getting to wear some of my spring clothes.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops, a 28 or 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

What I Wore Lately

I wore this outfit on a weekday to run some errands. I love this color combo; I think it’s so fresh and fun for spring.

denim jacket (S) // Caslon tee (S) // Mother Hustler (28) // Birks (39) // necklace // bracelet

We went to see our daughter perform at the high school jazz band spaghetti dinner one Friday night. It was pretty outside, but not terribly warm, so I pulled out my Marrakech Lange jacket. It’s finally on sale, and most sizes are still in stock.

The next day, I met up with some ladies from church for lunch. It was sunny but windy and chilly, so I wore this outfit with my LOFT trench on top.

dolman top (S) // ecru jeans c/o (6) // Kork-Ease heels c/o (8) // Tory Burch hobo bag // earrings c/o // necklace // bracelet c/o

I wore this white denim look to church. My green floral blouse keeps going in and out of stock, but it’s a great price if you happen to see it in your size.

And that brings us to the Monday of my surgery! I’ve been pretty much living in stretchy clothes ever since. Out of habit, I guess, and also curious to see how I looked, I took pictures most days. And yes, I realize I just invited everyone to examine my b00bs! 🤪

After breast reduction surgery, you’re swollen and a little misshapen, and you go through some phases where the shape is a little funky as you’re healing. Eventually, they’ll settle in and look more natural, but that can take up to 6 months. I also had gauze lining my bra to protect the incisions for the first couple weeks. All that to say, this is not necessarily how I will look after the dust settles, so to speak.

outfit details

I have had a few occasions that warranted real clothes. This dress is a few years old, but I found a similar style by the same designer in the same color, so I linked that below.

And then it was right back to athleisure. This Athleta Cloudlight Stratus Tee is an oldie but goodie, and it’s currently on sale! Mine is starting to pill and has some stains, so I just ordered a new one.

Also, I like how these lululemon Align joggers have a flat waistband with no drawstring to add bulk in the midsection when I don’t want to tuck in my shirt.

This is another “outfit” that’s been on major repeat. I love this Maine raglan tee; I picked it up in a shop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, last summer on our way to Maine.

I finally looked up the brand and found their website so I can link it. I’ve been wearing it a lot with the lululemon Align joggers or the Vuori. I wore this to run my daughter to Target last Friday.

We had tickets to the Patsy Cline musical in Philly on Saturday. I was still swollen and bloated from surgery, so I needed something comfortable and stretchy. This jumpsuit seemed like a viable option, so I tried it on to see how it fit.

The show was a matinee, and the black jumpsuit can read kind of dressy, so I tried to tone it down with shoes and accessories.

I first tried the jumpsuit with metallic wedges, but I didn’t care for that look, and they aren’t great for doing a lot of walking. So then I tried these black sandals. They’re much more comfortable, but maybe too dressy for the daytime event.

Then I thought, what about nude shoes? So I tried my old Stuart Weitzman NearlyNude ankle strap sandals (Adobe) and the Dolce Vita Paily slides (Cafe).

I had pretty much decided on the Stuart Weitzmans because I like the “barely there” minimalist vibe as opposed to the thick, braided strap on the Paily slides, but I was still feeling like the heels were a bit much.

They were probably fine, but then I remembered these strappy low-heeled Dolce Vita Haize sandals from last year. They also have a minimalist vibe, but the flats seemed more appropriate for the daytime show. They take the dressy black jumpsuit down just a notch. So this was the final look! (I also brought my denim jacket along in case I got cold during the show, but I didn’t need it.)

My jewelry was all chosen to be more casual and help tone down the look, and somehow I managed to put together an entire outfit of sold-out items. Sorry I don’t have more links!

QUESTION: Do you all like it when I go ahead and link sold out items, so you can get the info, or does it feel like a tease?

For anyone wondering, I’ve mostly been wearing soft post-surgical bras like this or this around the house, but I usually wear this Natori wireless contour bra with “real clothes”. I don’t love it, but it does the job for now. My shape and size will evolve and fluctuate for a few months, so I’m trying not to buy too many bras just yet. I also wore these Spanx shaping shorts under the jumpsuit and the two dresses in this post.

Okay, so this is what I wore to church last Sunday. I just ordered this Eileen Fisher tank dress because I have a similar one one in the berry color from the 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and I love it. It’s my go-to casual spring/summer dress because it’s easy to dress up or down, and the quality is fantastic.

This one is a pima cotton, rather than the rayon/spandex blend, but it’s still a really nice quality. This is the kind of dress you can keep for years and it will never look dated. I recommend sizing down in Eileen Fisher dresses, by the way.

After church, I changed back into stretchy clothes to hang out at home and visit with a friend. I don’t know why I took off the necklace and not the rest of my jewelry.

I put the same outfit back on when I got up on Monday (sans the jewelry) so I didn’t bother to take a picture.

Then yesterday, I met a friend for breakfast. It’s been over two weeks since my surgery, and I’m starting to feel somewhat human again, so I decided to try on some jeans. I went for a classic black and white outfit, but the fray hem ankle bootcut jeans keep it modern.

I picked up this tee on sale back in the winter, and unfortunately it’s sold out now, but here’s a link to all the AllSaints Emelyn t-shirts. I love the rolled edges and the shape of the v-neck, and the fabric is really nice, as well. (I also have the grey marl.)

  1. I am so happy to hear you are feeling like yourself again! I had a similar procedure a few years back and it took a few weeks, but it’s so worth it. Enjoy yourself shopping for things that work for you and thanks for sharing.

  2. JoLynne, it is good to read that you are almost back to full steam, even if it will be 6 months before the girls settle into final shape and size. There are some of us who are following this journey of yours with self-interest. Would you be willing to post before and after pictures in the same top/dress/swimsuit? I mean, when you feel like your body is at or close to its final adjustment.

    1. Definitely! I was waiting until they aren’t so swollen, b/c right now I don’t think they look that different from before when I’m wearing that Natori bra. Also, my old bra was such a good one and held them up where they belong, that I don’t think the difference is going to be super noticeable in clothes, even when they do settle.

Where it is verrrry noticeable already (other than being nekkid) is in swimsuit. I hardly ever posted a selfie in a swimsuit b/c I felt so uncomfortable with all the cleavage. And there was only one kind I would wear – it basically had a built-in bra. Now I feel like I can wear almost any style. The girls just stay right where they belong. It is amazing! 🙂 🙂

  3. Thanks for the post. I bought the Eileen fisher dress yesterday. Glad to see you are doing well and looking fabulous as usual. Love all you posts. It is very helpful to me. Just curious about the camera bags you have- eg. Gucci- I’m always wondering about how much space in those bags ? What do you have in them? Can it hold your sunglasses?

    1. They are the perfect size, in my opinion. I once went to NYC for the day and carried everything I needed in the Gucci camera bag. Both the Gucci and YSL camera bags are flexible and quite roomy inside. I can fit my sunglasses, but I usually don’t put the sunglasses case in there. I always carry a small wallet, my key fob, a purse-pack of Kleenex, a lipstick, a couple of tampons (TMI, sorry!) and a hand sanitizer. And I can slip my sunglasses, when I need to.

  4. Do I mind if you link sold out items? No, not if you do not mind if I track them down elsewhere and then buy them or something similar from a competitor who may not pay you commission on the sale.

    1. LOL! That is totally fine, and is why I do it. 🙂 I usually google and try to find the sold out items at other retailers, but if I can’t find it anywhere, I figure I can link it so you can find on ebay or poshmark. Plus, sometimes you guys actually do find it somewhere when I didn’t, and you let me know, which is helpful.

      1. Those gorgeous and comfortable Vince Camuto Molisana Wedge Shoes that you like and have worn in several photos, HSN has them for 20% off. No other retailer has budged from $99 yet.

  5. I don’t mind seeing the sold out items because the information is valuable and teaches me the kind of look I could be going for. Glad you are feeling well!

  6. All of your outfits are great and you look great in them. I am glad you are recovering nicely. Good for you to do “this is how my surgery went” comments. I gave several friends who would benefit from this procedure who are now in their 60s and suffer with all kinds of health problems.
I appreciate showing the links even if the items are sold out and also giving similar options. That green jacket is gorgeous !

    1. This one is super easy — it is stretchy, so you just pull it down, do your bizness, and pull it back up again. It is good quality so it doesn’t get pulled out of shape or anything. If I had to deal with a zipper, I’d be out.

  7. I don’t mind you sharing a link when sold out. I like to see what web site you used, cost etc I learn something lol

  8. Hi,
It’s great to hear how well you are recovering!

Do I mind when you post/link something sold out? Not at all. It’s helpful if there are similar items linked, but, if not, that is okay, too. Sometimes disappointing that it is gone, but It still gives me an idea of how to wear something/how it looks/what is on trend.

Thank you for all of your hard work putting all of these posts together….especially while recovering!

  9. You look great and glad you’re feeling much better! As for whether I mind if you post items that aren’t for sale anymore, not at all. In fact, sometimes you post something that I bought from you and I enjoy seeing it again, especially because I usually still have the item! So it’s nice to see and admire it again.

  10. Great post! I purchased the Michael Stars jumpsuit awhile back, LOVE IT! My husband comments each time I’ve worn it about how great I look in it!
Comfy & flattering. Dress it up or dress it down. Everyone needs this jumpsuit in their closet.

  11. Glad your recovery is progressing well. I’m sure it’s not easy sharing that much personal information but it is helpful to anyone looking to do the same thing.

I don’t mind you sharing items that are sold out. Sometimes I’ve gotten lucky and and some sizes have been back in stock after you said they were sold out. Plus there’s always eBay and Poshmark and all of that. 😉

  12. Jo-Lynne,
Happy to hear you are healing well.
What size Spanx did you purchase?
    Thank you,
    Mary Ellen

  13. So good to see you recovering well and wearing “real” clothes!! As for “out of stock” items, please continue to post anyway. I can still shop my closet, or go to the website and find something similar, etc. Thought of you yesterday when we were at the Shopping center in Collegeville (Town Place??). I will post a photo on the Insiders FB page later!! Enjoy your pool later this week, it’s gonna get HOT!

  14. So glad to hear you are doing well! You look beautiful as always, and thank you for all you do for us. In response to your question, I like it when you link sold-out items. It helps me to understand what the brands and dimensions are — we can still learn about the clothes if that make sense. Hope you have a great day!

    1. Yes, totally. That is also partly why I do it. I am more likely to link if the info is still there. If not, I usually try to link something else, or just say it’s sold out.

  15. I’ve been envious of your Maine tee since the first time you posted a photo. Ordering it today, especially since I won’t be able to go to Maine this summer. What size is yours?
I love the Michael Stars wide-leg jumpsuit. I’m going to see if I can find it anywhere else. I’ve become a jumpsuit girl, even though they’re hard to find when you’re short-waisted. I love that they are comfy, but look put together. So glad your recovery is going as planned, Jo-Lynne. You look terrific!

  16. A shaper question… what makes you choose the Spanx over the Wacoal? My Wacoal just arrived yesterday (thank you!) and while I haven’t worn them yet, I did try them on and I think they’ll be okay to use occasionally. I’m not a layering fan but they feel pretty thin so I think I can do it!

    1. The Wacoal is more for light smoothing than heavy duty shaping. I wear the Spanx OnCore Mid-Thigh Short when I want more tummy and saddlebag control, lol.

Spanx has 3 levels of shapewear: smoothing, shaping, and sculpting. The Spanx OnCore Mid-Thigh Short is level 3. Here’s what it does: “This sculpting shaper is lightweight and powerful, featuring fully-bonded front-panels for a tabletop flat stomach and edge-bonded side panels for comfortable, squeeze-free slimming.”

The Wacoal Body Base Shorty is comparable to a Spanx Level 1, I believe.

  17. You look great, even recovering from surgery! I’m happy it’s going so well for you. I like for you to link sold-out items anyway for a variety of reasons, in part because I can stalk the item in case it’s restocked. I do wish I’d purchased that jumpsuit when it was in stock! I’m surprised they haven’t re-stocked it since it has been so popular. BTW I ordered a couple of the Loft items you featured in Daily Finds– the striped tank sweater and the snap henley tank. Both are going back; the striped one is rough and has awkward proportions and cuts up too high under my arms, which is weird because I’m usually finding the opposite in tanks. The snap henley is super soft and would be great except it flares out strangely under the arms. Not sure what’s going on with Loft, but NOTHING seems to fit me well from there anymore 😕

    1. Well, that’s a bummer. My order with the tank and a few other pieces just arrived but I haven’t tried them yet.

And I’ve learned with Evereve, they don’t usually restock items once they’re sold out. My guess is, they sell off any returns in their brick and mortar stores.

  18. Please continue to post info on items out of stock as occasionally they come back or you may be able to find the item elsewhere.

  19. You look great, so glad you are feeling better every day! Thanks so much for putting in all the effort in your posts, they are very helpful!

  20. You look great and it was nice to see this post and catch up on what you wore. I’m so glad you are feeling better and better with each day. I know you’ve been through a lot and probably have had some rough days you haven’t complained about. So happy for you. Once all the swelling is down etc. you will have fun dressing your new body. I bought a beige crossbody bag and it seems I always struggle getting it to match my neutral shoes. My shoes are either too cafe’ color like the dolce vita ones, or more beige or cool beige than the purse and I don’t feel I can buy a purse for each shoe. Do you always match yours or can it be off and be okay? I love the style of the Eileen Fisher dress but just don’t know if I want to spend $168 for a cotton tee dress. It is however just the style I need for Summer. Another rainy, dreary day here in NW Oregon, after warm and sunshine yesterday. I really am wishing we could get on a warm, sunny schedule and stay on it. Its been a cool, wet Spring for sure. I think we get the same weather as you being on opposite coasts, but you might have better Summer weather than me. Enjoy your day.

    1. They don’t have to match exactly, but I like it when they are both warm or both cool tones. I tend to gravitate to the cool taupey tones, so most of mine are in that range.

  21. Glad you are feeling better and your out and about, I have several clients (yoga, Pilates) that have had that surgery and could not be happier with their results. Thank you for posting the links, I am loving the green denim jacket, I will be adding this for an upcoming vacation and of course I’ll be wearing this all summer, it’s so fresh and cute

  22. I like that you still link the sold out items. I purchased this jumpsuit back when you first featured it and enjoy seeing what shoes and jewelry you paired it with.

  23. You look terrific! I’m so glad you are doing so well! As far as links go, I like when you post them, even if the item is sold out. If nothing else, it helps me shop my closet for something I might already have that will work! Yay for nice weather! We have basically gone straight to summer here in south Louisiana. 🥵

  24. You look great! I’m sure you are more comfortable. We use to live in Lee, New Hampshire. I worked in Portsmouth, such a great town.

  25. I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling good and healing well after surgery!
I’m looking for very casual dress options that have some detail or waist, a straight up cotton tshirt dress doesn’t hide enough (dealing with some tummy weight right now)-preferably under $100. Any ideas?

  26. I love the jumpsuit on you and am wondering what you’d recommend as a topper if you need something to wear if it gets chilly?
