What I Wore Lately vol. 11

Wow, the last two weeks have flown. I feel like I just posted one of these, and it’s already time again! I actually double checked the calendar to make sure it’s been two weeks.

Every other week on Wednesdays, I share what I’ve been wearing, and today’s the day! I also have an outfit evolution for you.

Mother Nature is still being a fickle woman, and these cozy looks are very unusual for late April, but it is what it is!

Okay, let’s get started!

For size reference, I’m 5’5″ and 135-ish, and I typically wear a small in tops, 28 in jeans, a 6 or 8 in dresses, and a size 8 shoe. I will give sizing notes, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.

MY DAILY LOOKS: WHAT I WORE LATELY

I wore this first look to take a few packages to the UPS store, and we stopped through the Chick-Fil-A drive through for lunch.

This cardigan is more sweatshirt than sweater, but it’s cozy and comfy and perfect for super casual days when I still want to look put-together.

I’m sort of on an every other day routine for getting dressed and putting myself together. This was clearly an off day.

These are my favorite leggings — so soft and comfy-cozy. I put them on almost every morning now, when I get up with the dog, and wear them until I shower and get dressed for the day… that is if I shower and get dressed for the day.

This was another day at home… I know, so unusual!

This tee is plush and soft, but it’s pretty much sold out. Watch it for restocks, though, as returns are taking longer to process these days.

Another at-home day… evidently I didn’t even bother to pretend to put on real shoes.

LOFT is doing 60% off when you buy 5 or more full-price styles, and I highly recommend snapping up this sweatshirt and sweatpants, if you don’t already have them.

I have the black, and my 17 y/o has the grey, and we both love them and wear them a ton. They’re TTS, or size down if in between. I have a small in both.

Lou & Grey softblend sweatshirt // softblend sweatpants // thong slippers (TTS)

This was a rainy Sunday, and I don’t think I ventured outside all day. In fact, that’s my pajama shirt. (Yes, I wore it to sleep in the night before.) I just put on a bra and threw on this cardigan and joggers.

I guess I put on the sneakers and necklace to look put-together? I dunno… but I do recall wearing these Adidas sneakers all day, and they’re very comfortable.

This is the day we got Ozzy… it was sunny but chilly, so I wore this cozy sweater — definitely one of my top 5 #NSale purchases last summer.

sweater // jeans // sneakers // earrings // necklace

And, you guessed it… another day at home! No clue why I added earrings and a necklace. I must have run out to the grocery store or something. Oh, wait. I remember. This was the day of my Facebook Live.

This front is super cute and cozy, and my leopard slip-on sneakers are 40% off right now! This is as low as I’ve seen them.

twist front top // jeans // sneakers // earrings // necklace

The next day was Wednesday, and I didn’t grab a picture. I’m sure I was wearing leggings and a sweatshirt all day.

Then on Thursday, I put myself together again to do a bunch of try-ons for my Friday try-on haul. After that, I ended up wearing this cozy cardigan for the rest of the day.

I don’t normally like hoods on my cardigans, but this one is lightweight, and I think it’s a fun feature. I also like that it has a slim fit and skinny sleeves — both features that make it very flattering for a long cardigan! (Read more of my frump-fighting tips for wearing cardigans.)

This tank is great for layering under cardigans. Remember, LOFT is doing 60% off when you buy 5 items or more, so this is a good time to stock up on basics like these tanks.

And then, the off-day… Oh, well. I’m nothing if not predictable.

This Athleta hoodie has a slightly cropped fit, and it’s nice and lightweight for spring. I love this opal green, but it comes in some other fun colors too. It also comes in petite, tall, and plus sizes.

Okay, now I have an outfit evolution for you. In last week’s try-on haul, I was debating about keeping these jeans. They were 40% off at the time, so the price was pretty good for Paige.

I was drawn to the straight style and retro wash with destroyed details, but I wasn’t sure if I could pull them off or which shoes worked best with them.

Last Saturday, we had a “pandemic birthday parade” for one of my daughter’s friends. If you aren’t familiar, this is when people line up and drive by the home of the person having a birthday with signs and balloons. I decided to get dressed as I would if I was going to a real birthday party, so I started playing around with these jeans.

I had already tried them on with a bunch of different sandal options, but I wanted to see how they would look with sneakers, so I threw them on with my trusty Veja sneakers and a white tee.

It works, but it’s plain, plus it was too chilly to go out without a long sleeve layer.

First, I tried on the leopard utility jacket. (I got it for $74 thru Trunk Club, but I can only find it now at Revolve for full price.)

The plain beige is 50% off at Nordstrom, and there are some other colors marked way down at Nordstrom, plus that sage green is 25% off and fully stocked at Neimans.

I like this look better in these pictures than I did in person. At the time, I just wasn’t quite feeling it.

It didn’t help that my 14-year-old daughter hated the whole ensemble. She told me the jacket looks like something the guys on Duck Dynasty would wear, and the jeans… well, she just thinks they’re ridiculous. (Both my teenage girls are still #teamskinnyjeans all the way.)

Okay, I really need to steam the back of this jacket…

I decided to ty it with the Madewell cardigan instead… the jacket makes a bit of a statement, and the jeans are a new look for me, and altogether it seemed a little bit much for the occasion.

This cardigan is a little more casual than the jacket and tones down the jeans a bit, but I really didn’t care for it with the jeans and sneakers. I can’t say exactly why.

I decided to see how it looked with the Birks.

I like the rose color of the sweater with the sandals, but I think the sandals and the jeans together are too boho for my personal style.

They work, just not for me. It may be time to give up on these Birks.

At this point, my daughter was telling me it was time to go, so I decided to resort to my comfort zone — skinny jeans and mules.

This works, but I really wanted to wear that cheetah jacket, so I swapped the sweater for the jacket, and then I was happy.

This was exactly the look I was going for. The jacket brings just the right amount of edgy to the simple white tee and jeans, and the loafer mules keep it modern.

Altogether it’s casual but polished, classic but trendy. I will definitely be wearing this combination again!

As for the Paige jeans, I ended up keeping them. When it was time to return my box to Trunk Club on Monday morning, I couldn’t bring myself to include them.

I learned a long time ago to trust my gut on matters such as this. There have been a lot of times over the years that I was unsure about a new style or an article of clothing that seemed a little too edgy or trendy or rugged or something… but I kept feeling drawn to it. When I finally decided to just wear it and own it, the next thing I knew, it was my new favorite. I have a feeling these jeans are one of those times.

While they didn’t quite work with the jacket or the cardigan, I like these jeans with the t-shirt and sneakers. I think they’re more of a summer jean, and I have a feeling I’ll enjoy them once the weather warms up and I can wear them with casual t-shirts and sandals, so I’m holding onto them for now. (With Trunk Club, you can return them later if you change your mind, as long as the tags are still on.)

Okay, that was a long one!

Next up, a simple athleisure look for another day at home. This is what I wore on Sunday.

hoodie // tank // joggers // sneakers // specs

Monday was a crazy day. I was up early with the dog, threw on the same joggers and a different sweatshirt, and never even put on makeup. I meant to, but it just didn’t work out. I won’t bore you with the details, but sometimes I wonder how I got everything done when I wasn’t on stay-at-home orders.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, and I got dressed and put on makeup so we could shoot a few looks for the blog… coming soon!

After that, I wanted to see how the Ann Taylor sage green jeans looked with a sweatshirt for more of a dressed-down look, so I threw them on with my white J.Crew hoodie and my Vejas.

I’m holding my purse and a Post-It note with a grocery list because I was on my way out to the store. (I always leave my purse in the car and stick my car key and credit card in a pocket to go into the store, but I still like to bring my purse unless I need something when I’m out. Plus, it’s my habit, and it helps me feel somewhat normal, even though the situation is anything but.)

These jeans are marked down to $35, by the way — that’s 65% off, and the sale ends today.

Someone asked to see them from the back, so here you go. They fit great — the rear pockets are perfectly centered both vertically and horizontally, and they don’t bag out. This was after wearing them for several hours.

I believe I said earlier that they run big, and I could have sized down to a 4. After putting them on again yesterday, I realized I could not wear the 4.

They do fit a little looser in the leg than I’m used to, but the fit is perfect in the hips and waist.

They have a comfortable 10″ rise with those “magic pockets” to help keep things in check, and they don’t bind at all, so they’re great for those of us who carry a little extra fluff in the belly area.

Overall, I’m very impressed with these jeans for the price point, although I’m considering cutting off that fluffy fringe and leaving a raw hem.

And that’s a wrap! I hope you all have a great Wednesday!

  1. Thank you for keeping it real during these strange times. I enjoy your posts each day. I have a quick question… about how long is it taking Loft to process orders these days? I placed an order on April 19 and have not received a shipping notification yet. I’ve checked the status and it still says processing. I’d like to take advantage of the sale they are currently running, but I’m a little hesitant considering how long my previous order is taking. Not that I need these things anytime soon. We are going nowhere fast down in NC.

        1. Hi Sarah,
I placed a Loft order (jeans and a blouse) on April 26th when they had the 70% off discount. It still hasn’t come yet.

    1. Sarah….I too am waiting for a shipping confirmation and its been awhile since my order.  I did get an email saying that its being processed and sorry for the delays due to Covid 19.  I think we all are needing some LOVE in the mail huh?  I don’t “need” what I got, I just wanted it.  I told myself its my Covid 19 cardigan.  LOL

  2. Another great post Jo-Lynne. So many cute items. Thanks for the rear view on the sage Ann Taylor jeans. I always look at the back before I decide to keep any jeans I buy. Not to mention telling us about the 65% off. 🙂
On another note I’m wondering why your post keep going into my “junk” mail. I’ve been retrieving it out and placing it into my in box for weeks now, but wondering how to fix that. I tried going into my preferences and that didn’t work. I’m a technically challenged person sometimes, but my husband is very good with computers and he doesn’t know why it keep doing that either. Interesting because I have been following you and Cindi for a very long time and Cindi’s mail has never gone to my junk folder.
Do you or any of the ladies have anything I can try so I don’t have to keep looking at my junk mail everyday? Thanks.

    Can anyone help me out?

    1. Try adding the newsletter’s “from” email address to your email account’s contacts or address book. Then your email account will recognize that the newsletter is from a “known” sender. I hope this works for you!

  3. I found such a PERFECTLY FIT jean at Target of all places !!!! Target’s Universal Thread brand !!! The perfect amount of stretch/spandex, and a variety of designs (reg hem, raw hem, button-fly front, zip-front, etc … and a LOAD of colors to choose from ! I bought the light green, peach, blush, light grey, and bright yelllow !!! $28 a pair !!!! Just such a perfect jean !!!

  4. When I look at the picture of the Paige Cindy jeans on the Nordstrom website, the bottom hits the model a couple inches above her ankle where her calf is starting to widen. You can see more skin and the bottom of the jeans don’t look wide. I wonder if the reason you are struggling a bit with the jeans is that they are longer, so less skin is showing and they hit on the thinnest part of your ankle. I notice this because I am 5′ 3″ and struggle with the length of pants. Pants look more proportioned to my body when they are either below my ankle or about 2 inches above my ankle. Anywhere in between and they look more like floods on me! Thanks so much for continuing to post fashion…it is so nice to have a nice diversion to look forward to every day. I especially love the evolution of an outfit posts!

    1. Yes, that is exactly the problem, which is why I was going to return, but the more I play with them, the more I think I might like them anyway. I’m seeing some of the straight styles being worn ankle length too (which is how these fit me.) But it does take some getting used to, and you have to get the right top and shoe combo as well, so it looks intentional and not like floods.

  5. Good morning! Love all these looks need to jump on those mint colored jeans why they are on sale. I wanted to ask, I am wanting to buy some white AG jeans. Do you stay with your normal size of 28 when you buy that color or do you size up?

  6. I love those Paige jeans WITH the Birkenstocks. They are so good for your feet and that color is amazing. Have you tried the Arizona style ? I thought you mentioned you were not a fan of that style. They are my favorite Birk and I love them with cropped jeans. I am just sorta over the whole skinny jeans thing – all of mine bag at the knees (yes, I have Joes, Paige, AG, Madewell – they all bag in the knee). The cropped flare eliminates that issue. Anyway, on a side-note, Ozzy is super cute 🙂

  7. I love your “what I wore” posts. You keep it real and even admit it. THAT is what makes you great. You are a real person with real struggles and you will share, even on your bad days. ou don’t sugar coat it and make everyday “great” We all need to know everyone has a bad day and it is not always rainbows and bunnies. It makes it easier to give myself “grace” on the days I want to stay in my PJ top and sweat pants. And you keep it humorous and give us a smile. Thank You

    1. Rhonda said it best: thanks for keeping it real in week# whatever the heck it is of lock down. Its not all “rainbows and unicorns” is my usual expression….. Quarantine casual is our new fashion phrase. Cautiously optimistic about country slowly opening up. Hoping for the best. How about using an old cross body purse to go grocery shopping with hands free? I am using an old one that I plan to toss once pandemic is over.

  8. I’m glad to see that you do have days where you don’t wear makeup or jewelry because 90% of my days are like that.  I am contemplating the spring colored jeans, if they come in a color that works for me.  The mint green is not a color that suits my skin tone.  Thanks for showing how your outfit evolved for the drive by birthday event!  I agree, that what you ended up wearing, was the best.  Enjoy your day!

  9. Great post! I love how you manage to make “quarantine casual” look fun and put together. Even the PJ shirt looks cute! Love those lulu joggers on you. Love the sweaty betty sweatshirt…so tempted by that one, but the price is killing me (and I don’t know that they have my size anyway). Love that grey and white cardigan. The only thing I’m not loving is those Paige jeans. I agree with the previous poster who said the length seems off for you (and I don’t see how you could shorten them without ruining the distressed hem, which is cute). I am also distracted by the whiskering on the front. It’s just too whisker-y for me. I love the wash, and get the temptation to do something other than skinny, but those don’t do it for me.

  10. Hi Jo-Lynne, can you help me w/ the lululemon align joggers.. what size did you order? I am usually an 8 in jeans and I don’t want these too tight. Some reviews said to order up to get a more jogger vs legging fit. Any thoughts? Thanks so much 🙂

  11. Good morning JoLynne, I have to say my heart skipped a beat when you said you leave your handbag in the car when you go into the store. I worked at a mall for a few years and many people came to walk indoors before the shops opened. The biggest form of theft was the smash and run, literally smashing the car window to get the handbag someone had left in their car when they went in to walk. Also a TJ Maxx manger shared with me to always wrap the child safety belt through the strap of your handbag and lock it as thieves look for that easy grab and run out the door. I’m using a wristlet now when I grocery shop. Thanks for your great post, I am always inspired even when it’s cozy clothes 🙂

  12. These posts are fun to read. The cheetah jacket is really cute, but I think putting a light color tank under it (rose, pink, taupe) would look good and make the cheetah print pop more. You wore two hoodies. Atleta and J Crew. I’m in the market for one. Do you like one over the other?

    1. I’m I have that rose tank from Madewell… I’ll try it. I like the J.Crew better, I think. It’s more versatile in my opinion – I’m more likely to wear it with jeans. And I like the v-neck and contrasting threads on the ties.

  13. Well you sure as heck can’t go with what a teenager says about clothes…..all they care about is what is “in” with their group and often the looks terrible on anyone older than 18 (often looks terrible on teenagers too LOL). Your “utility jacket looks great!
I have never been a fan of “whiskering” on jeans…..they just look fake to my eye because they are not what happens when I make my own “whiskers” by simply sitting down in my jeans over time

  14. Love the post! I’m can tell that my eye is getting used to seeing the cropped straight and the cropped flare. I also really like the cropped flare with the Birks, but I also am a fan of the boho look. So if you’re not, i can see why you don’t necessarily like it for yourself, because it definitely has that vibe. So much so that I’m really tempted to to get those sandals. 😀 I’m just ordered a pair 7FAM cropped flares. We’ll see. I know I’ll have to have them hemmed (or cut them off), because they’ll be too long, and I’m just not sure if cropped flares will look okay on someone as short as me. And I love that Athleta cardigan. I bought one about a year ago, and loved it so much I bought one for my daughter-in-law (who also loves it).

  15. Hi I’m a nurse and just wanted to say you are actually doing the easiest thing from an infection control standpoint by not taking your purse into the grocery store.  Anything we take in needs to be cleaned when coming out.  I’ve also been just taking my keys and list, with my debit card in my back pocket.  Before all this started, I would take my purse in but kept it on my shoulder the whole time, however many women put it in the buggy.  I’d recommend against that even under normal circumstance.  But for right now take in as little as possible, then wash hands and wipe everything off after leaving!  Also for those wearing gloves while grocery shopping, anything you touch with the gloves becomes dirty.  So the same rules apply!

  16. I just started to tell myself pretty much the same thing, that at least every second day I will get dressed in something other than joggers or leggings. On Monday it felt nice To put on my jeans and a new soft comfy shirt I had just got in from Abercrombie. Today I should’ve been back in jeans of some sort but was too tired after cleaning and doing my workout so leggings it is🤦‍♀️… The suns back for the rest of the week and the snow we got unexpectedly is melting 🤗. Tomorrow I will get back in pants lol. I really like the outfit you ended up wearing for the bday drive by… the first jeans just didn’t work … but I agree they seem more like summer ones to style.. maybe a chunky heal of some sort with the tee you originally tired. I applaud your patience with them . As for me I would have given up by now too much fussing.. Can’t wait to see you style them again.

  17. I only take my debit card and car key into the store as well no purse.. in fact I just leave it home. My phone goes in a ziplock baggy but stays in my pocket ( just in case I need it) I wear disposable gloves and mask into the store and then once the car is loaded up they all come off and go into the garage bag I keep in the trunk. I Lysol my hands to drive home. Once I get home a new pair of gloves go on to unload the car and bring the bags inside. I unload the bags with one gloved hand pass to clean hand and Lysol every item before it goes away.. all bags are thrown in recycling everything wiped down one final time ( counter) then I go to shower and put all clothes into the wash machine by themselves.. no wonder I try to do a grocery run every 3-4 weeks.. it’s exhausting!

    1. Karen…..I thought I was the only one who did this.  It is exhausting.  I try to wait as long as I can before going to the grocery store.  I feel stressed the whole time shopping.  So many people just aren’t doing the mask, gloves and social distancing and I wish they would.  I live in Oregon, which our state is doing pretty well compared to others, thats for sure, but I don’t want people to get lazy about what they should be doing.

      1. I’m in NS and our stores have been pretty good about the 6 feet rule. The lanes in the grocery stores are marked with one way tape. There are foot print signs to stand on while waiting in line and the cashiers have plexiglass in front of them. Most people wait for you to move ahead even when your getting your stuff in each isle.. I’ve seen more people wearing masks then I thought I ever would.. still seems so strange, but may be our new normal. Take care😀

        1. Karen. Yes our stores have all those same precautions but I guess I meant the people themselves just crowd in isles they want and won’t move along or wait if you are getting item so I feel I’m trying to get away from people the whole shopping trip. Just stressful to me. More are wearing mask and gloves but I wish everyone would. Thanks. You take care too.

  18. I think the paige jeans are good and glad you kept them, but I think it was the look with the sneakers I didn’t like. I like them better with the yellow gold sandals. I think the jeans look better with a little more ankle showing.  I think you will like them best with your summer sandals to come.  I’d like them better without the cut out back hem, but overall they fit you good and look good.  I like your “what I wore” post.  Keeping it real during these times.  I had to laugh about what your daughter said about the jacket looking like something off of Duck Dynasty.  It doesn’t at all. I haven’t thought about that show for years.  It really was funny.  Did you do a LIVE yesterday?  I didn’t see the link.  I don’t have facebook and watch later with your Wed. link.

  19. I love the color of the Ann Taylor jean’s but not a fan of the fringe either. I have a pair of Loft jeans that I like but they have the same fringe so only wore them with tall boots this winter. Not sure why I never thought to just cut if off, thank you for the suggestion!

  20. Do your Loft black sweatpants shed? I noticed some reviews on Loft mentioned it but wanted to see what your experience was before I decide.

  21. Your daughters are so funny! (Duck Dynasty)
In my area the teenage/early 20s girls are all wearing the straight leg or wide leg jeans with the uneven hems, plus I’m still seeing them wear a lot of distressed jeans too (at least my son’s GF does and she’s 22). And SUPER high waists! Although my son’s GF is super tiny around that high waist! 😄 but high waist jeans and crop tops are all I see her wear!
I loved your outfit “evolution” and love the final outfit combo you chose! I found myself nodding myself in agreement with you along the way while reading it! I also agree that the sage green jeans would probably be more versatile/current  with a raw hem; I definitely cut them!
Thanks for your outfits! Stay healthy!
I actually went to the dentist today because I chipped a crown over the weekend. Fortunately it was just a chip that he smoothed down (I’ll prob need it replaced in the next year or so) but it was strange going into an office! They had me wait in the parking lot in my car and called me when it was time to walk up. They’re using a skeleton crew right now and only seeing one patient at a time. Dentists (I was told while there) are the most at risk to covid19 for obvious reasons). Fortunately I was in and out in less than 20 minutes.

  22. I’m a day late on this post but had to comment.  I love the Paige jeans!  I am a fan of the straight leg and I liked each way you styled, with the jacket & sweater, although I do agree they will probably work better with just a tee in summer.

Also, love the Ann Taylor jeans except the hem, then I read you’re thinking of cutting off that to a raw hem.  I agree!

You had some fun pieces in this post even though I’m at least a day late to the sale prices.  If you love it, it’s worth it sometimes.  Those Paige jeans are in my cart!

  23. Thanks Jo-Lynne! I will try what you and Barb said as your post today was still in my junk mail this morning. 🙁
