Mom Style: What I Wore This Week 06.15.11

Here we are again! I’ll try not to bore you with the same old tanks and jean shorts. This is what I wore running errands one day last week.

The orange sleeveless T is by Patagonia. I picked it up in an outdoorsy store in Maine last summer. I liked that it’s a little bit shorter than most tops nowadays, which makes it a better fit with skirts. The gray twill skirt is from Banana Republic, I picked it up last fall. It’s a little shorter than I prefer so I always wear it with flats. I threw on that gold bracelet because it was handy but I usually wear silver with gray. And the outfit could use some earrings. I think I was wearing diamond studs. Just a simple, casual outfit for running errands and working at home!

Okay so here I am last weekend in Cape May (I know, what a job I have, right?) getting ready to go out to dinner at The Rusty Nail.

This is a new outfit for me. I wanted to be cool and casual because we were going to be eating outside at the beach. And I had this metallic vesty sweatery thing that I picked up on a whim but hadn’t worn and wasn’t sure how I was going to wear it. When we had our All Things Chic style event at Bloomingdales last month, the displays were all about crisp, clean neutrals — this summer’s hottest trend.

I decided to try the gray vest over my white cropped skinnies and a double layer of white tank tops. I kept the neutral thing going with the pewter sandals and my Stella & Dot Riviera Coin Necklace. I’m not sure it’s my most favorite outfit, but it was fun for a change.

I wore this casual outfit for an afternoon exploring Cape May because it was quite hot and I didn’t want to get a “farmer tan” — yes, I am just that vain.

Finally, this is what I wore yesterday to run errands and hang out at home. And I got to grace the dentist’s office with it — I had four cavities. Isn’t there a point at which you have no more teeth to fill?

I don’t feel totally confident in this outfit, and I’m not sure what it is about it that bugs me. The sweater is kind of long. It definitely doesn’t look right with shorts. I decided to wear it yesterday because it wasn’t as hot as it’s been so I could wear my cropped jeans. Perhaps it would probably look better with full length skinny jeans. I thought it was fun and different and added interest to my favorite black tank.

Okay, that’s enough of me. What about you? What did you wear this week? Did you play along?? Leave me a link if you did, and I’ll do my best to stop over and visit!wiw thurs

  1. I think maybe I need to be taller. That sweater is LONG. I’m going to try it with skinny jeans next.

And also? Those cropped jeans – that I love and adore and I’ve had 2 pairs – I think they’re on their way out. I didn’t feel very good in them yesterday. I think the skinny trend is getting to me, and they felt dated. So weird how quickly things change.

    1. I’ve been to intimidated to jump on the skinny jean train. I’m so afraid they’ll look terrible on my curvy figure. Perhaps I’ll change my mind if I could do some serious shopping without all three kids with me :o)

  2. I love that coin necklace! It’s so beautiful! I think I’m going to have to work a I Wore It Wednesday into my blog, cause this looks like fun! 🙂
Girl, you can pull off that white outfit. I’m already white enough so I don’t know how well it would look on me.

  3. The white and neutrals are gorgeous!

Ahh, Cape May….My hubby and I met in Ocean City, NJ 20 years ago this summer! 🙂

      1. 🙂 so did we – 2 years later in the same spot where we started dating. Not sure is even there today….it was a food court close to the pier. We went upstair and well, I said yes both times!

  4. Actually, the white/neutrals outfit and the outfit that you wore yesterday are my favorites. I think that your cropped jeans are okay because they still fit close to the calf and aren’t too wide at the calf.

I’m dying for a pair of white skinny jeans or white skinny cropped jeans. I just have not found the perfect pair!

  5. Love the White and silver outfit. I’ve been eyeing that same Stella and Dot necklace for a while. You’ve proven it’s versatility so I may just have to have a party this summer!

  6. In answer to your question about having your teeth filled . . . . My dentist has filled every single one of my teeth (or so it seems) . . . twice! Because once he’s filled everything, one gets a crack in it and he has to do it again. Grrrrr.

  7. YAYYAYYA It’s WIWW! I love you in orange.

The last outfit, it could be a few things… and because I’m in training I’d like to see what you think… (shaking in my boots at even attempting this)….
The armholes on the sweater makes it look like it’s too big for you..and I don’t like how thick it is around the neck area.
The sweater has a lot of detailing on the front and at first I thought it was a thick ribbed sweater..
The sweater looks like it is bulky at the bottom making you appear a tiny bit heavier than you usual super skinny self.

Hrmmmm it appears I don’t like the sweater. AHHAHHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH Well ya win some ya lose some.

  8. When I moved to the Upper Valley I made my friends pinky swear that they would stage an intervention if they ever saw me in a vest. But those vests are very cute and perhaps even wearable so I’ll edit my vow and say I’ll never wear a fleece vest. I specially like the silvery one. I can’t bring myself to wear a tank top on it’s own but a vest like that pulls the outfit together without the bulk of a sweater.

Oh, and thanks to your earlier post, I had my very own CAbi shopping spree in my very own living room and I am hooked! Thanks!

  9. No need to question your final look – it’s a wonderful, casual interpretation of the outfit you wore in white. As always, I love how beautifully put together you are.

  10. Lovin the white outfit! With our 105 degree Texas heat right now it just looks cool and put together, something no one in Texas is pulling off these days, we are not wilted but melted already, and it is only June. I like the metallic & love the necklace. Of course I also love the Saturday tank, shorts & sandals….it looks real 😉

  11. I LOVE the white outfit (I have some white CAbi pants that I may have to try it with) and the top outfit is perfection as well. I’m also loving the new header.

  12. Love the first and last outfits, very nice

Love that you are standing on a chair as well, lol

    Thanks for sharing

  13. I love all of your outfits but the white one for dinner out on the beach is my favorite! I totally want some white skinnies for summer!

  14. The white outfit is my favorite. It caught my eye when I was reading this post on my phone! I love it. As for the last outfit, I think the knit detail on the trim makes it seem a little heavy for summer. And I am totally with you on avoiding the farmer’s tan. I definitely plan my outfits based on sun exposure and tan lines. 😉

  15. Love love love your skinny white jeans, white tank and silver vest ! I have some skinny white capris and wear them ALL the time but that’s a new combination I really like. Of course in Texas it’s 100 DAILY already. UGH so I’m not sure if I could even do a vest, but I can find some way to work those neutrals. THANKS!

  16. I love the white outfit. You look absolutely great in it.
I have to comment every few months or so about how much I love your blog. So…here goes: I love your blog!
It’s your “voice” in your writing. So.very.readable.
(Your comment about the dentist! That’s one of the things I truly adore about your blog. You keep it open and honest and totally funny and relatable. ) Thanks!

  17. I like the all-white outfit…definitely a nice change-up.

Speaking of teeth, I just went to a dentist in jersey on Tuesday to have a cavity drilled out and filled anew (it broke). Fun times…{note: sarcasm}.

  18. I had to scroll up to reread what you said about the white outfit. Not your favorite. Wow. I’m LOVING it. Dreaming up my own way to copy you even as I type this. 😉

  19. LOOOOVE the all white/silvery vest outfit. I’m def stealing that one. Beautiful as always! It is always such a pleasure to read you WIWW!
