What I’m Running To Right Now

I’m still running.

barefoot running

I can’t believe I’m saying that. I have never kept up any form of exercise for more than 3 or 4 months, but I have now been running somewhat consistently for 2 years? Maybe 3? I don’t even remember when I started.

I don’t run as often or as fast or as long as I’d like, but I’m still getting my bootie out there, and that’s what counts, right?? This morning I ran 3 miles in 30 minutes — a new record for me. WOO!

I’m not really into it for time and speed, and I try to keep my expectations low. I don’t want to lose the fun of it. I say “run” because it makes me feel athletic and powerful — two things which I am certainly NOT — but truthfully it is jogging with a bit of walking thrown in there. At any rate, I’m still going strong.

One of the biggest incentives to get out there is having new music on my playlist. I try to change it up often. Here’s what I’m running to right now. I’d love to get some suggestions to replace some of the songs that are starting to get tired.

Warning: not all of these songs are family friendly. I choose music for this playlist that has a beat that gets me moving, and that is my only criteria. So, with that said, here it is.

What music do you have on your exercise playlist???

  1. I listen to many of those songs when I run and/or stationary cycle. My latest ‘playlist’ is a pandora station that started with Raise Your Glass. I love Gives You Hell for the last push of the run.

Some days I run to all Pink songs – she pumps me up. 🙂

  2. So glad you are still going. I don’t run as often as I need to/want to lately, but it makes me incredibly happy that most days I can still pound out a mile in 11 minutes and 2 miles in 24 or so. I was listening to Harry Potter on my ipod on the treadmill, but that got old. I just bought Switchfoot’s newest album, Vice Verses, and that is what I have listened to the most lately. I don’t know specific tracks yet, but they are always reliable. I have a few songs on my playlist that are in Spanish, that I got from Zumba. I have no idea what the words are, but they make me move and smile while doing it. Oh yeah, Holly from Marathon Bird turned me on to Imagine Dragons. The album I have is It’s Time. Good stuff.

  3. I don’t run, but I do a workout called “the daily method”. They always play a song by LMFAO called “I’m sexy and I know it”. I love this song and could listen to it over and over! You should give it a try!

  4. I run 3 miles 3 for 4 times a week. I started running about 4 months ago and hope I will stick with it, but some days it’s soooo hard to be motived. Are you still running in the vibrams? How did you transition into them? I’m reading Born to Run, like you said, It’s a great read. I’m trying to change the way I strike my foot, more to a toe strike than a heel strike, hoping to get rid of some of the knee problems I’m having. Having any less or more injuries with the vibrams?
    Thanks!

    1. That’s great! I’m doing 3 miles at least 2x a week. It is hard with our current schedule to get out there 3 times, but I’d love to be doing 3 or 4. It is hard to get motivated, but the second my feet hit the pavement, I’m so happy I did it. And I feel great all day afterwards. I’m hoping that knowing that will keep me motivated.

I LOVE THE VIBRAMS. I do not have any more knee trouble. Every once in a while, I get a twinge, and I try to pay attention to my form and it never seems to get bad. I have strained my achilles tendon a couple times, not bad enough to not run on it, but I know that without the kind of support traditional sneakers give (I say “that kind of support” b/c it isn’t necessarily good, but it has babied our joints and muscles in such a way that we have to really be careful until we are built up to running the way nature intended) I have to be more careful with form.

I wear the Vibrams to the gym too. I tried sneakers one week, and the lunges and squats hurt my knees. So I went back to Vibrams. They feel so much better. I never wear sneakers, if I am out and about I wear ballet flats or flip flops or Keens if I have on athletic wear. So my feet are just not used to heavy, constricting shoes, so the Vibrams just make sense for me, I guess.
