What to Wear for Casual Spring Celebrations

Greetings, friends! Today I’m teaming up with JCPenney to style a couple of spring looks for your outfit inspiration as we look ahead to Easter weekend.

These are on the more casual end of the spectrum, for those of us who have casual spring celebrations on the horizon — basically anything where dressing up a great pair of jeans is appropriate. As y’all know, this is my favorite type of outfit to style (and wear!)

I’m wearing these Levi’s 711 Skinny Ankle Jeans and taupe heeled sandals for both outfits.

The Levi’s 711 is the closest style I could find to my favorite legging jeans. They have a comfortable mid-rise and fit snug to the leg from hip to ankle. They have a good amount of stretch and are very comfortable.

They seem to run more true to size than the other Levi’s I’ve tried — I’m wearing the 29, and I think I could even size down to the 28 because they’re a little loose around the waistband and hip area.

These jeans have a 27″ inseam, which is on the shorter end of the spectrum for ankle-length jeans. Typically “ankle length” is from 27 — 29 inches, but of course where they actually hit your leg will depend on your height and body type. I’m 5’5″, for reference.

On me, these jeans are the perfect length for wearing with booties and sandals that have a higher shaft, as these do.

I absolutely love the color and styling on these sandals. The strap design and ring detail are on trend, and the chunky 3.25″ heel gives them plenty of stability. I find them very easy to walk in.

My only caveat is that they run big. I ordered my usual 8, but I could use a 7.5.

On top, I’m wearing this pretty floral number by Liz Claiborne. While I like it paired with jeans, this top would also make a great work wear piece for those of you who need that.

It feels really nice on, and it comes in a bunch of great prints. The sesame geo would be gorgeous paired with black pants, and the black spots goes well with black or white, or you could pop it with a pair of yellow or pink pants.

I like the zipper detail in the back and the way it skims the body nicely without clinging. This top runs true to size; for reference, I’m wearing the small.

I topped off the look with a white denim jacket — my go-to “completer piece” during spring and summer.

This outfit combines all 3 of my components for making an interesting outfit — the blouse is the focal point, the jacket is the completer piece, and the edgy sandals create a nice juxtaposition with the feminine blouse.

I’m also wearing gold bangles and double hoop earrings.

For a more casual look, I swapped out the floral blouse for this ruched sleeve striped tee. This is another Liz Claiborne piece, and I love the ruched detail on the sleeve and the flattering v-neckline.

It comes in several color combos. I also ordered the green and navy stripe, which I like a lot, but I decided to wear this rose garden stripe because of how well it complements the bag I’m carrying.

This is the perfect outfit for a casual family get-together this spring or for meeting a friend for coffee. For a more casual vibe, you could swap out the heeled sandals for flat sandals or sneakers.

Outfit Details:

floral blouse | striped tee | white denim jacket | blue jeans | sandals | satchel | bracelet | earrings

  1. I’m  so excited! I clicked on the sale alert for the black and white cheetah flats you have styled. They are 50% off today and on their way to my 🏡! Thanks for that option.

  2. I’m so obsessed with stripes this year more than just the good ole nautical look  of navy and white from years passed. Love the colors in the stripe t you choose. I have an olive green utility jacket and am searching for a pant so I’ll be on board to a degree, but not over the top as it may be short lived 🤷‍♀️…

  3. Both tops are so pretty, but I really like how the stripped one is made, especially on the sleeves.  I hope to add it to my closet soon.  I used to shop at JCPenny regularly, but now I forget about checking them out online.  Thanks for the reminder!  Have an awesome day!

  4. These are cute outfits.  I like both.  I’ve realized I definitely need petites in tops so the Liz Claiborne won’t work, but it’s nice to see all that JC Penneys has to offer.
Have you ever come across a white jean jacket that doesn’t have the silver buttons?  I think that’s what I don’t care for in them, for myself.

      1. Check out Chico’s. I just purchased a great white denim jacket with gold buttons, and there’s often a discount code being offered on their website!

  5. Simple, fresh looks. I love both of these. I’m going to have to check out JC Penney. Good to about the jeans since Levi’s do seem to size differently.

  6. I wore a lot of Liz Claiborne blouses when I was working. I liked the subtle details that elevated their blouses.
I really like those Levi’s on you. Perhaps size down one but they are keepers.
Are you carrying more structured bags now? I’m shopping for a spring purse for my daughter and myself.

  7. Oh, how I wish that striped tee came in petite!  I’m looking for more tops with the elbow sleeves this year.  And the detail on those are fun.  Love both outfits!  We are very casual for Easter around here.  Even for church.  So these would be perfect for my weekend.

      1. I just received the Lucky Brand pink Ava skinnies and I love them!   I will have to hem them, but otherwise they are perfect!

  8. Good Morning Jo-Lynne,  love the looks today and especially the white utility jumpsuit you pictured in the collage.  When I click on it though it goes to the Nordstrom green shirt dress.  Cam you tell me where it’s located? I don’t see it on Nordstrom website…

  9. Hey Jo-Lynne. I’ve been wanting to try Levi jeans but wondering if these have stretched out with wear.  Do you recommend sizing down in these?  Great look. I like the outfit with the red blouse the best.  Just curious, when you work with JCPenney’s or anyone else, do they give you the clothes for free? Did you keep these or just style them and give back?  Also could you send the link to the Tues. LIVE like you usually do?  I don’t have facebook. Thanks so much.

    1. Yes, in this particular pair, I recommend sizing down. That’s not true for all Levi’s though. Many of them I need to size up. These didn’t stretch out on me, but they were stretchy, if that makes sense. So I’d definitely buy them snug.

Every brand collaboration is different, but with most of the brands I partner with, they supply a stipend to purchase clothing for the post. Some will send the products directly, but either way, I’m free to keep them. I’m also free to choose what clothing I want to feature. I hope that helps! 🙂

  10. The Lucky Jeggings you styled last week fit great and I love them but they smell terrible. Any suggestions for getting that funky smell out of jeans?

  11. every time you do one of these collaboration posts, I think… Jo-Lynne wouldn’t really wear this in real life.

    1. Hi Marcy. You seem like you “know” me so you must also know by now that this is both a personal style blog as well as a resource for women looking for fashion inspiration at a variety of budgets. I get asked quite a bit for more budget-friendly options, so some of my collaborations are geared to fulfilling those requests. Anyone who has been hanging around for a while knows that I do collaborations with a wide variety of retailers — some where I shop regularly and others that are not as familiar to me. Either way, I only accept partnerships that I believe will serve a portion of my readers. 🙂
