What To Wear To A Concert

Last night I went to the Carrie Underwood concert in Philadelphia. We had SO much fun. Scroll down for some pictures of the show, but first I want to show you what I wore. Important things, ya know!?!

I actually get asked what to wear to a concert from time to time, so this is the perfect opportunity to write a post about it!

What to wear to a concert is always a bit of a conundrum. Of course, it largely depends on the weather, the location, and the style of music, but this is pretty much a standard concert outfit for me.

Outfit Details: Faux Leather Moto Jacket $145 | similar camo top $35 (another option $12)
black ripped jeans $188 (cheaper $49) | similar booties
moto hobo $325 (I actually recommend a crossbody for concerts)

The exception is the bag. I actually carried a crossbody bag, and I highly recommend that. You will be standing up much of the time, and you definitely don’t want a bulky bag to contend with. When I took these pictures, I wasn’t thinking about what I’d actually carry to the concert. I was thinking about what looked good with the outfit. 🙂

When I go to a music concert, I’m going for a cool, edgy vibe, and jeans and a t-shirt are pretty much a given. Layers are generally a good idea because you never know if it will be cold or not inside your venue. If it’s an outdoor concert, then you need to pay close attention to the weather forecast.

I didn’t want to deal with a bulky jacket in the arena, so I wore this a moto jacket over a long-sleeve t-shirt. I wore the jacket until we got to our seats, and then I took it off when it started to warm up. I just held it when we were seated, and when we were standing, I hung it over the front of my chair.

Carrie is partnering with Carnival Cruiselines and Operation Homefront on an initiative designed to support military families. These dog tags are available for purchase at merchandise stands at all Storyteller Tour stops as well as on board the fleet of Carnival ships. All proceeds go to Operation Homefront. You can see more about it in this video.

Because the concert supports military families, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to break out my camo.

I picked up this top at an online shop called Lulu’s a few weeks ago. There is a short-sleeved version available now. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. Or Target has one HERE, and it’s just $12.99.

Comfortable shoes are also a must for concerts because there is often a long walk from the parking lot to the conference venue, and once you get to the concert, you stand most of the time. These booties are from The Walking Company, and they are super comfortable. They have plenty of support for hours of standing and dancing.

I had such a great time with these girls last night.

Carrie puts on a great show. She sang many of her favorites like Before He Cheats and Blown Away.

I also love her gritty new song, Choctaw County Affair. But my favorite song she sang was Something In the Water. I know from hearing her interviewed that she is a confessing Christian, and that song puts her testimony right out there front and center. It was the perfect way to end the show.

  1. Great post Jo-Lynne! I too love Something in the Water!!! I just ordered the short sleeve camo tee from Target, along with a solid grey. The great thing about ordering from Target, you don’t have to pay shipping charges if you pick up the items in store! A plus! Hopefully, both of them will fit. I’m so glad y’all had fun last night! We are going to see Thimas Rhett on March 18. Yes, very comfortable shoes no a cross body bag are a must.

    Have a blessed day!

  2. Very cute! I ordered three of those tops from Z supply in Dec. Love the blue camo too. Love how you dressed it up. I REALLY need to buy some black jeans!!!

  3. Perfect outfit for a concert! About five years ago, I was going to see Bon Jovi in concert. I hadn’t been to a concert since college, and my teenaged daughter asked me what I was wearing. I showed her, and she said, ” Oh no! ” She then went shopping with me for something a little more appropriate for the concert. Ha!
Again, I love your outfit, truly a great choice!
So glad you had fun! Carrie truly is an artist. Love that she’s pairing up with Carnival to aid military families.

  4. Perfect outfit for a concert! I have seen Carrie at The Grand Ole Opry, love her! Glad you had a great time with friends 🙂

  5. Hello,Jo-Lynne!????
I wore the same style jacket for a Christian concert that my husband and myself went to. My jacket and purse are red. I’m glad you had fun at the concert.
    Much blessings!

  6. Hi, glad you had a great time at the concert! I saw Carrie Underwood years ago right after the American Idol season that she won. It was when the whole group including her went on tour.

Nice outfit with the jacket! What do you think about a black moto jacket in spring? I bought one at the end of fall and haven’t had a chance to wear it due to cold temps, snow etc. I wasn’t sure if it is too fallish for spring or if there is a way to pull it off! Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Jen

  7. Concerts are tricky to dress for, that’s for sure. Love your outfit! I especially like that jacket. Looks like you all had a great time.

  8. You look fabulous! Love your jacket. The whole outfit looks so comfortable for a concert and your right, a cross body bag would be idle for a
    concert.
is there a web site where one can purchase the dog tag to support the troops?

  9. Jo-Lynne, you look fabulous! I ordered the Moto jacket and it should be arriving EOB on Friday! I’m so excited to see how it looks on me. I’ll be eager to see how you style this jacket with other pieces. Your style is right up my alley. I’ll be celebrating the big 5-0 in April but I tell ya, you really are only as young as you feel and dress. My sweet 27 year young niece has been my fashion consultant and even she has commented on how young and hip I look! Thanks to you I have upped the ante in being more selective with my purchases and have chosen to spend a bit more on essential wardrobe pieces. Next up – investing in some good denim. AG and DL1961 are on my watch list. Blessings to you! I so appreciate your blog and the time you take to invest in us, your readers each day. You truly have a gift and a servant heart.

    1. I totally agree that age is only a number and style is more about your attitude and personality! I was just having that discussion with my manicurist yesterday, lol. She’s in her 50s and we were talking about ripped denim. Haha!! I do think investment pieces are worth it. I can’t wait to hear how you like your jacket!

  10. Hi,
I have a birthday party coming up next month and the theme is 1960s cocktail attire. can you help me dress up for this event?
    Thanks.

  11. Going to this concert this Friday night and I am beyond excited! I think I’m wearing a black lace top that I found at Anthropologie, (it was a splurge but it was 30% off ) and black distressed jeans! Not sure about footwear either my fancy cowboy boots or botties (changes the look completely) We shall see what my mood is on Friday!
Thanks for this post, I found it helpful!
