Memorial Day is right around the corner, and it’s finally warming up around here and starting to feel like summer! I hope the weather cooperates this year because we’re planning to have some friends over for a barbecue and hopefully some swimming.

Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ, attending your hometown parade, or visiting an historic site, it’s always fun to give a nod to a patriotic holiday with your outfit.

You can’t go wrong with white shorts and nautical stripes, and this Caslon tank is stretchy and soft and very comfortable.

For those not familiar with Caslon, it’s one of the Nordstrom Made Brands. I love shopping these brands because they offer the quality and style that Nordstrom is known for, without the markup that often comes with the big name designers. And of course, shipping and returns are always free at Nordstrom.

This tank is 100% cotton and runs true to size. It comes in several solid and stripe color ways, and I appreciate that the straps allow you to wear a regular bra underneath. (I recommend this one for larger cup sizes.)

These white shorts are one of my go-to summer closet staples. They have a 9″ inseam with unrolled cuffs, but I like to cuff them, which brings them closer to 7″.

The fabric is lightweight and stretchy and comfortable, but not see-through. Just be sure to wear underwear with no-show edges in a color that matches your skin tone… something like this.

I elevated the look with espadrille wedge sandals. I love the perforated detail across the leather strap, and the espadrille style platform wedge is such a classic style for summer.

These sandals are true to size, or size up if in between. I’m wearing the size 8, but I often size down half in slides.

I accessorized this outfit with a simple gold chain link necklace and white threaded hoop earrings. I also consider my nail polish an accessory. Since the outfit is blue and white, I added a pop of red on my nails to complete the Americana color palette.

Here in Philly, it’s often chilly on Memorial Day, so I picked up this Caslon space dye sweater just in case.

I’ve always loved the juxtaposition of a sweater and shorts, and this is such a nice pairing. This sweater is soft and cozy, and I love the contrast stitching at the neck and hem, as well as the raglan sleeves.

STYE TIP: Raglan sleeves are a great way to soften broader shoulders.

This is also the perfect sweater to have on hand if you’re celebrating MDW at the lake or the beach, since it can get nippy on the water.

And of course, you’ll need a great pair of shades while you’re enjoying the outdoors on Memorial Day weekend. These DIFF cat eye sunglasses have glare-reducing polarized lenses, and they’re lightweight and comfortable to wear.

I pulled together one more look for those who like shorter shorts. This Caslon Rounded V-Neck T-Shirt is a staple at Nordstrom year after year. It’s the perfect slub texture and a great price point for a classic white tee.

It pairs perfectly with these navy crossdye Caslon Tie Waist Linen Shorts for a breezy summer vibe. They run a little small; I am wearing the medium, for reference.

I just added these Dolce Vita braided slides to my summer closet. They’re right on trend with the puffy braided straps and squared-off toe, and I like how they complete the look.

This outfit is perfect for those who are spending their Memorial Day Weekend at the beach or in hot climates because the pieces are all lightweight and breathable and made of natural fibers.
