What to Wear to Christmas Eve Service

20 Days of Winter Fashion may be over, but I still have a lot of outfits in my queue! I also want to start releasing my gift guides, so I’ll probably have to double up on posts some days to fit in everything I have planned. Be sure you’re signed up for my email newsletters so you don’t miss anything! If you don’t want to hear from me every day (I can’t imagine why not…🤔), there is a weekly option that goes out on Saturdays where I recap all my posts from the week.

I’ve styled quite a few party looks this season — a cocktail dress, velvet jeans, a sequined cami with coated denim, and a lace tee with blue jeans — so for this holiday outfit, I wanted to share something for a more conservative venue. This is something I’d wear to a Christmas Eve service or out to dinner on Christmas Day, or perhaps for a holiday office party after work. You could actually wear this all day and then just add a red lip for the party afterwards.

I’ve had these black pants for several years, and they’re my go-to when I want to swap my black skinny jeans for trousers. They’re the effortless slim bootcut pants from White House Black Market, and they’re made of a fabulous wrinkle-resistant, packable fabric with four-way stretch.

These pants hold their shape throughout the day and don’t ever wrinkle, plus they’re incredibly flattering. They come in short, regular, long, petite, and plus sizes. For reference, I’m wearing the 6 regular.

Also, right now you can save 40% off your White House Black Market online order with code 69802, plus they’re offering free shipping on any size purchase for a limited time.

This beaded yoke sweater was sent to me from Dress Barn, and it’s understated yet festive. You could wear this sweater for so many occasions. It looks classy with these black pants, or you could pair it with winter white pants for a different look. I would even dress it down with jeans and flats if I was volunteering for my child’s holiday school party.

The fine gauge knit is soft and comfortable, and the beaded yoke is so pretty. Here’s a better view. This sweater also comes in off-white, if red isn’t your thing. For size reference, I’m wearing the small.

For accessories, I added some blingy earrings and a beaded wrap bracelet. I also carried a beaded minaudière (it’s old, so no link) but you could go with something more casual if it better suited your venue.

These dorsay ankle strap pumps are super comfortable and walkable, and still give you that delicate look of a stiletto. Mine are from a few years ago, and I think they’re a higher heel than the current ones, but they look exactly the same otherwise.

Dress Barn also sent me this sequined printed sweater to share with you, and it’s also lovely paired with black pants for a more conservative holiday event. FYI, they also make affordable trousers as well as a pull-on ankle pant that would work with either of these sweaters. You can see more in this post.

I like how the model on the website wore a large pendant necklace on top. I didn’t have quite the right thing, so I stuck with my large sequined earrings (also old; sorry!) I couldn’t seem to track down the exact necklace the model is wearing, but this pavé fireball necklace would look nice on this sweater.

This time I carried a black patent clutch because I felt like the minaudière was too much with the sequined top.

Both of these sweaters are highly versatile, and best of all, very affordable. Right now Dress Barn has BOGO 50% off all their tops and sweaters, and you can check out their Sparkle, Glimmer, Glow collection for more festive holiday attire at great prices.

  1. I LOVE Dress Barn! Every time I am in the US I always make a stop there. I got a dress for my sons graduation this year from them. Both great tops. Love the red color! 🙂

  2. What elegant and festive looks! Both sweaters look fab! I may copy you for our Christmas Eve church service.

Out of curiousity, how did your FWTWL journey go? Its a tough time of year to contemplate weight loss when we are tempted with so many sweets and treats. But there is always the new year to get back on track. Am interested in your honest, candid opinion.

  3. Those dress pants look perfect on you. There is a great fitting pair of trousers for every shape out there. It just takes trial & error. I’m still on the hunt.
I love the neck on both tops. Just enough scoop to show a little skin for that feminine feel.

  4. I think the red sweater and black pants look absolutely smashing on you!!! I always seem to forget about Dress Barn but they sure have some cute items – Thanks so much for styling their clothes on your post!!!

  5. Love the sweaters but especially the one with the detailed neckline. I usually stop in to Dress Barn when visiting the USA. last visit to Florida they had a different name but can’t remember it. Thanks for sharing another great look.

  6. Jo-Lynne, you look so pretty in both outfits and the sweaters are so pretty!  I hope you had a good day!

  7. Love both of these sweaters, so pretty and festive!

I am adding dressbarn (locally it’s a Roz & Ali) to my list of places for style challenge pieces. They seem to have a lot of cute things! I want to stop in and get a feel for their sizing on me. Love that they offer a ship to store option too!
