Where Do You Live?

Lori of Just Pure Lovely, who I got the privilege of meeting in Disney World a couple weeks ago (hey, girls, when are we having that reunion!?) is hosting a monthly carnival called Where Do You Live?  She wants to know, well, WHERE YOU LIVE.

But not just where.  She wants to know ABOUT where you live, specifically, what makes it unique, or at least special to you.  And I do love where I live, so I jumped right on this bandwagon!

When I was driving home from the park yesterday, I kept stopping the car and getting out to take pictures, much to my children’s concern.  But, see, around here, you can actually stand in the road long enough to take a picture without risking life and limb.  That is how LITTLE traffic there is.

I live in what I call a rural suburb of Philadelphia — an area beyond the suburbs that is slowly becoming built up with newer developments and shopping centers, but is still largely rural.  My development is located on farmland, and there are farms surrounding us on three sides.  We moved here a few years ago from a densely populated borough on the outskirts of Philly, so passing cows and sheep when I drive my kids to school was quite a novelty at first, and I have to admit, it hasn’t entirely worn off yet.

Here are a few pictures I took today.  This is the farm behind our development.  I know.  It was a horrible time of day for picture taking, so bear with me.

I wanted to get a shot of the cows and the sheep on the farm I pass on my morning walk, but they weren’t outside yesterday.  Usually they are more sociable than that, but it was kind of a gloomy day here.  I felt like staying inside, myself.  Perhaps I will get a chance to snap a couple shots today.  I had great intentions of going out at dusk last night, but you can imagine how motivated I felt to get in my car and go take pictures after cooking and cleaning up dinner for my family.  Yeah, that wasn’t happening.

Next month I’ll have to get a little more creative and find something besides farms to photograph.  Please consider playing along!  I’d love to know about where you live.  And be sure to link up at Lori’s place, so I can find you.

  1. Oh, to have a FARM to look out at instead of this confounded elementary school. In our last home in Atlanta we had a pond and a horse pasture behind us… I miss that pastoral peacefulness. I shared a post from my archives at the carnival. Thanks for the heads up! xoxoxo

  2. Oh, wow, when you say Philly suburbs, I’d have NEVER thought you see something so pretty! And you have the big city amenities to boot. I’m so glad you showed us.

    Thanks for playing along!

(I still can’t get over the cows we see, either. It’s been 4 years since our move.)

  3. I moved from Michigan to Arizona and I miss seeing BIG RED BARNS. THank you so much for sharing your photos…

  4. Oh we live in big red barn land too! Seriously, I have a cornfield that butts up to the corner of our back yard and we are in the city limits!

    Only in Iowa.

  5. My Brother in law in is Malvern and we visit every Christmas. We love it, love it, love it. Such beautiful country and farms and the convenience of the big city. The best of both worlds. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Lovely to see your neighbourhood. Love that red barn. I will start to take a few pics, both up here at our holiday cottage, and at home too. Looking forward to playing along.

  7. I love the part of Pennsylvania. I’ve said before my bro lives in West Chester. The drive on the Turnpike through the Allegheny Mountains is my favorite.
Two years ago when we visited we spent time in Lancaster and visited the Herr potato chip factory! NUM!
I’ll have to do this on my blog. We have a festival going on this week so I’ll take pictures and tell a story.

  8. Your pictures make me homesick! We moved to the Atlanta area from Bucks County a year and a half ago. We were only there for a couple of years, but we absolutely LOVED it there. I am always wondering where you live and if it is anywhere near Buckingham! The ice cream place you pictured recently looked VERY familiar!

  9. Beautiful! My hubby grew up in York and was born in Lancaster. I’d love to live there or in Gettysburg.

I loved the earlier story on the cow in the road. LOL It made me think of last Friday when I was picking up the kids from school and stopped for traffic. I saw this group of horses to the right. One looked like he/she was having some sort of fit………moving and shaking all over the place. Then BAM out flies a baby pony! Yep, right there across from the school. We stopped and watched for awhile and the kids got a kick out of it.

  10. Although the immediate area around you looks pastoral, I have to laugh because overall I think this area is overly congested and built up. But then again I grew up where it really was the country. I guess it’s a matter of perspective:)

  11. Isn’t this a neat meme? I love all the green and serenity of your surroundings. We still have a lot of snow on the ground and it snowed two or three days this week.

Thanks for sharing. I hope to put my own up later this weekend.

    Carol
