Where We Stay

Thought some of my “regulars” might find this post by my aunt, Midlife Mom, interesting.  This is where we spent our two weeks in Maine.

Meanwhile here I sit, trying to wrap my brain around the fact that summer’s almost over and my kids start school two weeks from today.  And yet I realize that many of you are already back in the swing of things.  We take our sweet ol’ time here in PA.  And I am SO glad we don’t go back until after Labor Day.  I plan to squeeze out every last drop of summer.

As if summer is mocking me, both of my ankles are swollen beyond recognition due to some killer mosquito that must have thought I tasted pretty yummy.  I have four bites on each ankle, and besides itching and swelling and oozing, they hurt like the dickens.  I don’t know when or where he made his attack, but I have never reacted so horribly to a bug in my life.  I’m about ready to bathe in Calamine.  Any other suggestions?

**Update. Now one of the “bites” is blistering.  I’m thinking poison ivy or leprosy.

  1. I wish we didn’t start until after Labor Day. My daughter is already on her second week of Pre-K.

I can’t help with the bug bites…those little boogers get me too!

  2. Ouch! You could try some liquid benadryl. Try rubbing it on the bite first and if that doesn’t work take it orally. Hope it goes down soon.

  3. Hmmm, I’d say Poison Ivy, but then again, I’m no doctor. Have you been putting anything on it? Have you gone to the doctor to make sure you didn’t have an allergic reaction to a bite?

  4. We start in a week, and we’re in PA, no fair. I want my boys home until after Labor Day.
I’d say not to scratch but I doubt you’d listen to that. It sounds like poison ivy. I hope it clears up quickly.

  5. If you scratch it enough, it can blister and ooze. Ick! It will sting, but nothing cuts itching like VINEGAR. Take a cotton swab and dab it on the bites. Like I said, it will sting if the bite is “open.”

  6. I keep a skeeter stick in my purse at all times. Between Boo swelling up like crazy from bug bites and me being 5 and unable to stop scratching it helps. Otherwise we use the Calamine. Old stand bys always seem to do the trick.

  7. Chiggers? Or, as we call ’em in Texas, redbugs?

I had some funky itchy rash all over when I got pregnant with some kid, I think Maggie.

Ok, let me pause and say this is like the 4th time I have told this story this week.

Anyway, I went to el derm-o and they never figured out what it was – even got a biopsy – blah blah but what they told me to buy was SARNA lotion. You can buy it at the drugstore, but you might have to ask where it is.

Magic, magic stuff. Took the itch far away. Keep it in the fridge and it feels even better.

The pictures on your Aunt’s page are beautiful! I wouldn’t want to come home!
