White Jeans for Winter (or Fall)

Hello and welcome back to 20 Days of Winter Fashion! Today I’m styling *gasp* white jeans for winter. Of course, this look would be also be great on a chilly fall day.

I still get people asking me if it’s okay to wear white jeans after Labor Day, and the answer is YES! Most definitely.

How to Wear White Jeans for Winter

The key to wearing white jeans for winter is to make sure they look intentional by pairing them with winter colors and/or heavier winter fabrics.

I found this packable quilted puffer vest on Amazon, of all places. This vest is super lightweight, the material is nice and soft, and I love the chevron quilted design and the flattering vertical side panels. I’m wearing the “cold green” in a small.

Underneath, I’m wearing a camel turtleneck sweater. I think the combination of white, camel, and teal is so pretty.

This turtleneck is by Halogen at Nordstrom, and it’s 100% cashmere. It has a relaxed fit, and you can wear it untucked or front-tucked. I’ve worn it both ways, depending on what I’m wearing with it.

A crewneck sweater would also work well with this vest, and right now the Halogen cashmere crewneck is 33% off, and it comes in camel as well. It has more of a traditional fit, which is nice if you don’t like the relaxed styling of this turtleneck.

If you don’t have white jeans you love, I highly recommend these Paige Verdugo ankle skinny jeans, and they just happen to be 25% off at Nordstrom! Definitely size up in these, though; I have them in a 30.

For a more budget-friendly pair, I was impressed when I tried these Old Navy Rockstar skinnies, but sizes are limited. A lot of people also like the LOFT modern skinny jeans.

I was excited to break out my Brahmin satchel again for this outfit. I confess, I don’t carry it as much now as I did when I first got it. It seemed to go with more in my summer wardrobe, but I also tend to forget about it because I have it displayed in my office.

This particular bag was an #NSale purchase, but Nordstrom carries a similar one for fall that I also like a lot. The travertine color is the same as mine, I believe.

I was looking for my tan suede tall boots to wear with this outfit because the color is close to the color of this sweater, but I couldn’t find them and grabbed my riding boots instead. I think I actually like the riding boots better with this look because the casual styling works well with the vest.

I bought these Frye boots at the Nordstrom flagship store in Seattle on a blogging trip a few years ago. I still remember walking over (our hotel was just a block away… verrrry dangerous!) and trying them on, and debating. They were definitely a splurge, but I had been wanting a pair for a while, and I knew I’d have them for a very long time. I still get excited to pull them out of their box every year.

FYI, these are also at Zappo’s and Amazon. I believe mine are the Whiskey color.

This outfit is a bit unconventional because of the white jeans, but I think it’s fun to be different sometimes. I hope this post helps you feel more confident wearing white jeans for winter!

  1. I bought a pair of white jeans (from one of your earlier outfits since you were talking about wearing them past the summer. I am not a fan of turtleneck sweaters since they tend to make my top look larger, but I am so glad to see this post. I need to look through my closet and decide on a top to wear with my white jeans. Any other suggestions/ideas? Do you think white jeans would look okay with tall black riding boots? Thanks for the ideas.

  2. Jo-Lynne, that is a very pretty outfit! Those colors look awesome together. I’m still a little unsure about white jeans in winter for me but it looks fantastic on you so maybe I’ll give it a try. Thanks for encouraging many of us to step out of our comfort zone! Happy Birthday to your son!!

  3. I love the color combination of this outfit! And those Frye boots..swoon.. so fabulous. I think this is my favorite outfit so far in this series. I never wore white jeans in the winter before I started following your blog, but they are such a fun way to take an outfit up a notch. You’re so good at that. I love the way you
give an understated edgy vibe to your style!

  4. I love that this is different. The purse goes great with the outfit:) and I’d consider my white jeans. I usually wear them well into October. Pretty color combo. Happy birthday to your son.

  5. I LOVE this outfit!  The colors look so good together. I’m going to peruse my closet today and put something together like this!  Maybe it’s because im in California but I’m a fan of white jeans any time of year as long as they’re the right weight for the season. Happy birthday to your son!

  6. I always like seeing the little camel in your Wednesday posts!
I’m interested in a vest that is collar-less or very low collar if anyone knows of one. I have a short neck and I always end up with makeup all over the collar.
    I love this combination.

  7. I actually left my white jeans out when I packed away my summer things this fall. But so far I haven’t quite been brave enough to reach for them. I’ve thought about it a couple of times but then I think..”but they look so white!” 😀 Maybe I’ll try them tomorrow. BTW, I love the color combination in your outfit…gorgeous!

  8. I love this outfit!  The vest is a beautiful color, and I also like how it is made.  I keep repeating in my mind to pair heavier winter items with my white jeans.  I don’t have knee high boots, so I’m thinking my booties or winter high top brown athleisure type sneakers will work.  Happy Birthday to David!  It’s still wet and cold in GA, but at least it’s not sleet or snow.  Have a great day!

  9. Thanks for showing us that no color is automatically “off limits” at any time of year!  I have those same jeans, and I love them for cooler months (thanks to you).  I will confess that the beige sweater is not my favorite color on you (it’s fine, but you look better in others), but I like it with the blue vest.  I think I’d also like it with your leopard vest.  Unrelated to anything, but I thought you would be interested to know – I have seen a ton of Tory Burch shoes and boots at discount sites lately (lots at nordstrom rack and lots on sale at zappos).  I’ve decided they don’t really fit my feet, but I know you love them, and I thought you might want to check that out.  Because shoes!  🙂

  10. I love this outfit !!! Such pretty colors and different than all the other bloggers !  It’s a win in my book😜😜

  11. Jo-Lynne, what a pretty outfit and as always looks great on you! This color combo got me thinking about how I coordinate colors when I make handmade cards. I think I will check out my Pinterest for more color combos from cards and translate to fashion. This is a lovely palette. Happy Thanksgiving!

  12. H!  What a lovely day for a photo shoot!  Sunny and clear skies, hopefully no wind!!  Driving on 422 right now, trying to get to my grandson’s Thanksgiving program, I hate traffic tie-ups!   Anyway, I must admit I packed all my white jeans and pants away, but I have a great pair of ‘winter white’ corduroy jeans and Ralph Lauren trousers that I wear all winter long.  Works wonderful with pastels and holiday reds/blacks!!  Another option for those uncomfortable wearing stark white jeans.

  13. You postted a cashmere turtleneck sweater you purchased off of Amazon several weeks back. Can you send me the link to that sweater by chance? Thanks!

  14. I would also like to get the link to the cashmere turtleneck sweater you purchased off of Amazon several weeks back. Can you send me the link to that sweater by chance? Thanks!

  15. I just wore white jeans with a grey knitted sweater to work on Friday and got lots of complements! Thanks for your inspo!

  16. I love this combo of sweater, vest and tall boots, with the white jeans!  I’m trying to talk myself into wearing my white jeans this winter, although I even have a hard time wearing them in the warmer months!   I’m just so used to wearing blue denim.  Thanks for always inspiring me to get out of my rut!

  17. I love the color of your vest with the tan top. And, believe the darker riding boots are probably a better choice with white jeans ( more contrast). Love, love this outfit!

  18. Very cute outfit today! I’ve always been afraid of wearing my white jeans past Labor Day, but you style them so well! I went online to look at the vest and was able to score the dark gray one for $12.99 !!!!  What a deal!  I’m going to try it with my white jeans, white sweater, black suede boots and a red, white and dark gray plaid scarf. Curious to see if I get any comments! Lol!  Love your blog!

  19. Ha.. so I responded to your blog this morning before going into my women’s bible study.. Guess what? One of our leaders came in wearing white jeans a gorgeous olive green pullover sweater and beautiful green and brown combo scarf and brown leather booties… I thought wow there’s Jo-Lynne’s blog in action…

  20. What is the true color of the vest–what shows in your photos or what shows in the Amazon photos? When I went to the Amazon site, the “Cold Green” vest looks completely different than in your photos. Thanks.

    1. Yeah, it’s hard to say. I really think the real thing is somewhere in between. My pictures make it look brighter than it is, but it’s not as dull as it appears on the website.

  21. LOVE this color combo! So much that I just scored the vest on eBay since I’m pretty sure this post is the reason they’re sold out on Amazon LOL. Add the camel sweater I have from J.Crew and I will be as fashionable as you in my white jeans for winter! It’s cold and rainy here in Georgia so I’m looking forward to wearing that gorgeous pop of color vest. Happy Birthday to your son!!

  22. The color of your vest in photos vs. the Amazon photo is SO different. Would you say yours are true to color? Thanks!

    1. Hm, I’d say it’s somewhere in between. My pictures definitely make it look brighter than it is, but the Amazon pix make it look darker and more dull than it really is. Sorry if that isn’t terribly helpful, lol.

  23. Love your fashion style! I’m in my 70’s and still love to dress stylish. Thank you for your inspiration.
