Who Knew A Free Trip Could Cost So Much?

I am back from yet ANOTHER day of shopping. This trip is adding up, and I haven’t even left yet!

After wearing them around for a couple days, I decided to take some of your sage advice and abandon the idea of the luxury flip-flop for something a bit more practical — a pair of sneakery mary janes.

My husband wanted to know what was wrong with my ordinary sneakers, and after I let out an enormous sigh, I explained that the goal is to be cute AND comfortable. And besides, I never wear sneakers. I actually do not find them comfortable. I find them confining. So then I asked him how he’s been married to me for 13 years and still doesn’t know this. He might have rolled his eyes, but I chose to ignore it for the sake of marital harmony.

In addition to the new shoes, yesterday we picked up a point-and-shoot camera at Costco because my beloved SLR doesn’t exactly fit in the…

NEW PURSE that I picked up today — it’s a small cross-over, just big enough for my phone, my new camera, a tube of lipstick, ID and some cash.  Cause it’s that or a fanny pack, and if I have to explain why I’m not wearing a fanny pack, you haven’t been reading my blog for very long.

My bank account is reeling from this “free trip” already!  Oh, and then there was that bathing suit…  Mercy.

I think I might actually be ready. I need to lay everything out and make sure I can fit it all in my unnecessarily large suitcase. Can we say high maintenance? Hey, I’m okay with that.

  1. I love THOSE shoes, too… way too cute. I think I suddenly need a pair myself.

Did you keep the luxury flip flop? Or do they need a new home? 😉

  2. I have those same shoes and I love them! But be warned…my SIL bought them also and she got MAJOR blisters on her heels! I didn’t have a problem but just wanted to warn you to carry a couple of bandaids in that cute new purse!

  3. LOVE those shoes – very cute and comfortable – perfect for your trip.

Fanny pack – just don’t mention them to any brits – fanny is used for a more private part of the female anatomy. Here they call them “Bum bags” – but they are still horrendous, by whatever name you call them.

  4. Can I get away with telling my husband YOUR free trip is costing ME money? I ran out to Marshall’s yesterday and found me some luxury flip flops. I have them on now. I heart them. I really do.

I’m drawing the line … I’m not getting that camera!!! 🙂

  5. The shoes ROCK! You are going to look awesome on your trip, and I hope you have a blast and come back all tan and wore out, but in a good way! 🙂

  6. Ok, I hate to be the wet blanket here, but I will tell you, I have the mesh sketchers like those mary janes, and they make your feet SWEAT. I’m talking “I’ve got to rip these shoes off my feet NOW and throw them as FAR from me as possible, I don’t care if I’m not home or not” shoes.

So. Maybe it’s just me, or maybe you could get some of those invisible sock thingys to wear inside of them, but be warned. Oh, and they rub on the top of your foot, near your big toe when you first get them.

    I’m such a grinch!! I’m sorry!

PS I have a little Coach wristlet, it’s perfect for each and every day, I highly recommend it!

  7. Mainline Mom — They were $35 at Kohls. They were more expensive at the Skechers outlet (I was at both today — don’t ask).

And the purse is going back. Sigh…

  8. I’m ready!

Well, I’m not ready. I put my swimsuit out on the guest room bed–aka the packing zone. I am wearing mine from last year for a lot of reasons, but it’s ready to go.

But I’m ready to go. Can’t wait.

    Very cute shoes.

  9. Love the sketchers…I’ve had my eye on a similar pair at the outlet for awhile but they still aren’t cheap enough. I wanna see the purse.

PS in case you haven’t heard…we’re movin’ to Texas!

  10. Love the shoes, love the suit, love it!
Do tell, what’s wrong with the purse?
Hey, the way I see it, at least you are bargain shopping. Nothing wrong with saving a little money, huh? Extra cash for the trip!

  11. Those shoes are so cute! Will there be a review on your other blog as to how wonderfully comfortable they are?

    Husbands just don’t get is sometimes… ; )

  12. THANK YOU for validating my sneaker mentality! I tried to explain the whole “I have to be comfortable and look uberchic while doing it” and he just did NOT get it.

    Hello!?

I look cute + I FEEL cute = a much happier wife to be around.

    🙂

  13. I have a pair of the Mary Jane sneakers (I got them at Target) and they are sooooo comfortable!
I also have a cool pix and I LOVE it. It’s so easy to use and it takes great pictures.

  14. Love the shoes! I’ll have to check those out – I may actually be able to wear them (I can only do things I can fit inserts into – makes for slim pickings in the shoe department) Also, I have to admit I still use my fanny pack when I go to amusement parks – otherwise I get a nasty headache from a backpack or purse. I realize this secret may exclude me from all further public gatherings with you now – LOL!

  15. Stephanie, lol, naw, I’m just anal. 🙂 And I go without socks. And my feet DO sweat in these. Which is a bummer. Pricier brands (Privo is a good one, Geox is another) make them with holes in the sole and also breathable leather or material uppers to prevent that, but I didn’t want to pay those prices. These will make better fall/spring shoes than summer shoes.

  16. I love those Skechers, but I do have a question. Do you wear them with socks or go without? If you go without, how do you prevent stinky/sweaty feet? This isn’t the most glamorous question, but I thought I’d throw it out there anyway.
