Who’s Hating Life Right Now?

Whatever rabid bug attacked my legs last week has made yet another sneak attack.  I have no idea where I’m getting these bites or what they are, but tonight my right ankle is itchy and swollen and sore and that super duper steroid cream the doctor prescribed isn’t even helping much.  I still have scars from the last round of attacks.  My legs look like a war zone.

Add that to the fact that I’ve been fighting off some sort of cold or allergy, and I should be a barrel of laughs tomorrow at the amusement park.  With seven kids.  Yeah, you read that right.  My neighbor Kim and I are treating our cumulative seven kids to a day of fun in the sun and roller coasters and junk food — one last hurrah before school starts and we all settle down for our long winter’s nap.

I wish I could say that I’m looking forward to this excursion with unbridled excitement, but that might be a slight exaggeration.  I’m not exactly an amusement park person, but I do try to put on a good show for the kids.  I wouldn’t want them to miss out because their mom’s a stick-in-the-mud.  So I will go, and I will smile and have fun.  And take lots of pictures.  And try not to scratch my ankles until they bleed.  Don’t you wish you were going with me?

  1. Sorry about your ankles. I really wonder where you are coming across this hell bug. DON’T SCRATCH!

I also hate amusement parks. Think of the bright side…you could live in Texas where it is way to hot and school started on Monday! I would love one more chance to play all day. My winter’s nap is already underway.

  2. ooo yuck.. its not suppose to happen again! I hope it feels better soon! Have a blast at the park tomorrow 😉

  3. I think I’m excited enough for the both of us! I can’t wait to have a day off and just hang out and watch the kids laugh and giggle. There is a big assumption there that they will be good as gold and I won’t have to yell at all. Ha Ha Ha – like that’s gonna happen.
    It will be fun!!

  4. I missed about the bugs before too – but the first thing I thought of, when I read about them now, was bed bugs (or perhaps in some other piece of furniture). If I understand them correctly, they bite exposed skin, so if your legs are exposed while you sleep (but not other parts of your body), it would make sense that it would only be your legs getting bitten.

I’m sorry they’re itchy! And I’m sorry that you don’t know where they are coming from – that is so frustrating! I hope you figure it out really soon.

  5. While on vacation in Florida, Brayden got bit by a bug and his whole ankle swelled up and he was put on the steriod cream and an oral antibiotic…it was just celluitis but his pediatician said if she had seen him she would have tested him for MRSA, which is apparently very common and treatable and not the scary situation the press has made it.

  6. I am so sorry about your bug bites. I kinda feel you pain because the mosquitoes have been horrible this year in my neck’o the woods and well they just LURVE me and the baby.

Hope you have some fun with the kiddos tomorrow! : )

  7. That stinks about the rabid bugs. Hopefully they will leave you alone soon.

Have fun tomorrow. I love watching kids as they enjoy the amusement parks. The happiness is amazing.

  8. Yeah… I hate to say it but bed bugs were the first thing I thought of too! Ick… I had them in my mattress when I was little…i just remember all the itchy bites and my mother finally figured it out. Dont know how we got them…sick to even think about.

  9. You know, several years ago my ankles were a mess from bug bites and it turned out to be fleas in our house! Yuck! And the bites were much itchier and swollen than mosquito bites (which are also bad for me). My husband never showed any signs of bites.

Anyway, I have a friend right now that had a terrible infestation of fleas (and you can hardly even see the little ones – black specks) and she doesn’t have pets! She thought it had something to do with neighbors pulling out and redoing a fence that maybe disturbed a nest or something.

  10. I am SUCH a stick in the mud. My kids can go to an amusement park when they are old enough to DRIVE themselves! Ha! You are a good woman.

  11. I’m not big on the amusement park scene either. I fully intend to enlist aunts and uncles and godparents who like that kind of thing to take my kids. I’m sure you will at least come home with something for the blog.
