Everyday Winter Uniform

Believe it or not, I’ve had these pictures since before Christmas! The day we shot this look, I didn’t really have any brilliant post topic ideas. I just knew we wanted to take advantage of the snowy landscape, so I threw a bunch of my favorite winter wardrobe basics into the car along with about every coat I own, and drove over to one of our favorite spots in Valley Forge National Park — Washington’s Headquarters.

One thing I’d like to get better about in 2021 is having a list of topics at the ready, so when I get sponsored post offers or need a few more outfits to round out a photo shoot, I have a plan for the outfit.

In this case, there was no plan, so this outfit is just another version of my everyday winter uniform. Let’s start by talking about these boots.

As you may remember, they are the ones that inspired my Winter Boot Review.

Now that I’ve worn them a few times, I can speak more to their comfort and wearability. Suffice it to say, I’m really glad I decided to keep them! In fact, I even included them in my Best Purchases of 2020.

I love this shade of tan with the cozy white shearling accent and contrasting black lug sole and laces. For that reason, they work really well with lighter and darker tones, and I love that they’re weather proof.

They’re a bit heavier than some of my other boots, but they have a soft and supportive footbed. Sizes are getting depleted, but they are currently 25% off at Nordstrom, or if you wear a small size, they’re an additional 50% off that at Bloomies.

If you want something lighter and a little more sporty and don’t need the weather-proof aspect, these J/Slides are marked way down, and they are soooo warm and comfy with a faux fur lining.

They’re also at Nordstrom and Bloomies. (I wear them tall and zipped up, not folded over.) They’re true to size; I have the 8.

I did not size up in the Sorels; I have the 8, and I can wear thin socks with them comfortably. My favorites are the J.Crew cashmere trouser socks.

They’re a bit of a splurge, but I snagged a couple pairs when they were on sale before the holidays. I’m all for spoiling ourselves with little luxuries these days. In fact, they’re on sale again, so be sure to grab yourself a pair! (Use code SPRING for 30% off!)

Speaking of life’s little luxuries, these cashmere lined leather gloves are such a pleasure to wear.

They’re like 10 years old, so this color is long gone, and they aren’t touchscreen compatible either; but Nordstrom has some other colors that are, and they’re on sale too.

This coat is old, as well, but Barbour makes a similar style. It even has a plaid lining.

Underneath, I’m wearing my Naadam recycled cashmere crew in the oatmeal and my Liverpool Abby ankle skinny jeans.

I’ve been really impressed with this denim brand, and they have a good variety of styles and washes. Shipping and returns are free, and you can get 20% off your first order.

I snagged this sweater on a really good sale before the holidays, and I’ve been wearing it every chance I can get.

If you’d like a more budget-friendly alternative, Banana has a similar style for a lot less. It’s also a great option for those who are allergic to wool because it’s a cotton/poly blend. I styled the camel color in this post back in the fall.

Now that everything is back to full price, this outfit really starts to add up, but my cost pear wear for each wardrobe item will be very low. That’s why I push the sales so hard when they’re happening.

Buying quality basics when they go on sale is how I’ve built a wardrobe that I love with pieces that will last me a very long time. I hope I can help you do the same!

  1. I have a great topic for you, how about the retro sneaker trend ? I am seeing these everywhere and I have to say, I am loving them. From Tretorn, New Balance, Saucony, Nike and Reebok. Even Madewell has their own version….and they look so cute with the straighter/cropped jeans.

  2. I look forward to your review of Cariuma. One review sounded like roomy width and I have narrow foot. I really like the look.

  3. I was just telling my husband the other day how much I love my leather cashmere lined gloves. He bought them for me for Christmas a couple of years ago and they were a recommendation from you on one of your Christmas List posts. They are such a luxury & I absolutely love them. Three years in and they are still in fantastic condition and I wear them every day during the winter.

  4. I haven’t even finished reading your post yet, but two things before I forget—the JCrew socks…do you hand wash those?  I can’t see myself doing that, so I am wondering if it’s truly needed.
Also, I am interested in the cashmere lined leather gloves from Nordstrom, but your link goes to the National park. Just a heads up 😄

  5. Idea: Packing for a girls weekend. Flight outfits and such!!!
Variety of ways to style Khaki’s, denim/chambray top, etc!!!
Necklace options with a variety of necklines.
    Spring coat trends-options

  6. Cariuma’s look great! I need to replace some summer sneakers. Ecco used to be my go-to but lately they haven’t worked for me, so excited to try these.

BTW, thanks for sharing the prices in that scrolling thing. That is really helpful.

  7. I really enjoyed your post! I want to try the Liverpool jeans. Do they run true to size? Reading you reference about the Barbour jacket reminded me of a fun trip to London with my college girlfriend a few months before Covid changed our lives. We swooned over the jackets in the Barbour store and I purchased a scarf for my husband. What a great trip!

  8. I do appreciate when you let us know of sales, especially on costly items. I ended up ordering the gloves from Bloomingdales. Also, another heads up. Several items on my wishlist at Nordstrom were on sale. I bought the Zella puffer coat in silver and sapphire. It pays to check your wishlist every day, because they don’t always notify you!

  9. That is my kind of winter outfit! Perfect timing. We are actually getting snow today and may have more on the way the next few days.  Our first all season.  I am loving those Cariuma sneakers!  So cute and fun colors.   I’m very tempted!  I am anxious to see how you like them.

  10. This is a great casual, but put together outfit that can take you so many places.  If I lived in an area where with real winters, I would invest in those boots.  I bet y’all are loving the snow!  I have some of the windows open and a ceiling fan on because the temp is in the upper 60’s.  We are waiting on the thunderstorms to arrive.  I hope you have had a good day.
