A Few Easy Ways to Style a Denim Jacket

Thanks to Gap Factory and Collective Voice for sponsoring this post!

Spring has officially arrived, and one of the workhorses in my spring wardrobe is a denim jacket. The Gap Factory Icon Denim Jacket is a good classic option at a wallet-friendly price point, so I styled up a few modern ways to wear it in this post.

In fact, if you need to refresh your wardrobe for the season, Gap Factory has a lot of really nice spring wardrobe pieces at great prices. Almost everything is 50% off through Tuesday the 4th, plus you can save an extra 15% off your order with my code JOLYNNE15! (Click here for exclusions & details.)

This denim jacket is 100% cotton, in a versatile mid-indigo wash with classic trucker jacket styling, and it runs true to size. It’s a nice way to add structure to these wide-leg pants in a subtle shade of off-white.

These pants are right on trend for spring 2023, and I’m really impressed with the fit and feel. They come in a wide range of sizes, as well as short and long options. Plus, the raw hem allows you to cut them to your desired length.

I topped them off with this ribbed henley t-shirt in a gorgeous shade of pink. I love how the henley style neckline adds interest to the simple look, and the fitted top helps to define the waist.

My next look features the same denim jacket with white flares and a navy linen dolman tee.

Every few years, I find the perfect linen tee that I wear on repeat all spring and summer for several years in a row. I’m always sad to retire it for fear I won’t find anything as good again.

I still have my black one from last year, but the one before that was navy, and I wore it until it was practically threadbare.

Well, I’m calling it now. This Relaxed Linen Dolman Tee is the 2023 version of that perfect linen tee. It has such an easy fit with the perfect drape, and it comes in a bunch of colors, but I went with navy because I know how much I wore my old one.

And as for these jeans, flares are a great option for those who don’t care for the wide-leg silhouette, but want to update their denim wardrobe for spring 2023. This pair has a classic fit, with front patch pockets for a little extra style value.

They have a 32″ inseam and just a hint of stretch, and they run true to size. I’m wearing the 28, but they were pretty snug. I probably will end up keeping the 29 instead. (I always order both sizes these days, because I never know which is going to work.)

I also love wearing a denim jacket with dresses this time of year, and Gap Factory has several casual dresses that caught my eye, like this 100% cotton pocket t-shirt dress.

I think the combination of this bright pink with the medium-wash blue denim is so pretty!

This dress also comes in black and olive, and it has a bit of a slub texture that’s really nice.

I’m wearing the medium here, but I also ordered the olive in small, and it fits me fine too… probably better than the medium, so I’d say this dress is true to size.

When I wear a denim jacket this time of year, I usually cuff the sleeves. It keeps me a little cooler, and 3/4-length sleeves are typically more flattering than full-length. Plus, it just looks a little more intentionally styled.

And I didn’t photograph this look with the denim jacket, but it would certainly look great over this black rayon v-neck shift dress.

I love the neckline on this one, and it’s super lightweight and cool and comfortable. I’m definitely packing this one for Italy!

It also comes in a pretty blue and white stripe, and it runs true to size. I’m wearing the regular size small, but it also comes in petite and tall sizes, if you need that.

Don’t forget to use my code JOLYNNE15 to save an extra 15% off your Gap Factory order, which is stackable with their 50% off sale from now until 4/4! (Click here for exclusions & details.)

  1. For your Italy trip you will not want a variety of bags. You will want one of those safety bags for you and your daughters. Theft is high during the summer months, and they are really good at it. Also comfortable shoes, and good socks is a must. You may want to look into a international phone plan if your going to post while in Italy. It will be hot so cool breathable clothing. Everyone dresses nice so ripped jeans, shorts will peg you as a tourist. The food is amazing!

  2. I’m looking at a pair of ecru denim that has a finished hem…….my question is, have you ever cut a hem that was finished to begin with???? Would it look the same as a hem that was unfinished before you cut them???

  3. I like those wide leg jeans but on their webiste I do not see the rise listed. Do you know what it is ? Anything above 11 is just too high for me — 10 is the sweet spot. Thank you 🙂

  4. You look great in all these pics… skin, hair, nails, outfit, everything! Thanks for your time and detail in all your posts.
    It’s very appreciated.

  5. Are darker wash denim jackets still on trend? I mainly see the lighter wash ones like you show in this article. I’m tempted to try bleaching mine with tips I found on Pinterest.

  6. Just a heads up—if at all possible, save room in your suitcase, or bring an extra along, as Italy has THE BEST shoes and handbags!!

  7. You look great in all of these looks! The one navy tee I have is not a true navy, so I am definitely going to check out the one you shared. I like that my ON card is good for GAP as well and GAP Factory. I have three denim jackets in my closet, so I am going to keep wearing them. I’m glad the weather is nice for you today. It was in the 40’s here this morning and only getting up into the 60’s, which I love so much better than the 80’s and 90’s.

  8. Fun outfits with the denim jacket! I have several of the pocket tee shirt dresses and love them! They are so comfy and pack well.

  9. Love all the outfits, can’t go wrong with a t-shirt dress and jean jacket. I love a jean jacket over a sweater, I have two, a lighter wash oversized and a medium wash which is a little more fitted; donated my dark wash one just never seemed to reach for it.

  10. I ordered the green dress and a white denim jacket! I’ve been looking to add a white one to my closet for a while.
