It’s almost time for the Super Bowl, and while we are all planning parties and food for the big game, let’s not forget a little something to keep the kids entertained too because nobody wants to be watching the game and hearing those two little words “I’m bored.”
Hi, it’s Tonya again, and I’ve got a fun craft project with activities that the kids are going to love on game day.
This DIY mini football piñata is quick and easy to make. It’s the perfect addition to your game day party and is bound to keep kids occupied. You can fill each with age appropriate items, and the kids can take them home at the end of the party.
What you need:
- Cardboard – an old box is perfect
- Duck Tape – brown and white
- Packing tape
- Scissors
- String – or curling ribbon like I used
- Assorted football themed trinkets – make sure they are small enough to fit inside the pinata and through a small opening.
Begin by cutting out two football shapes from the cardboard along with 2.5″ inch strip (or two depending on how long your box is).
Tape the strip(s) to one cardboard football using the packing tape, and then add the other cardboard football on top and tape that together too.
Using the brown Duck Tape cover the entire cardboard football. Start with a strip down the center, then work your way out, doing the sides last.
Cut thinner strips of white Duck Tape to create the stitching on the front side of the football.
Using a box cutter, but a flap on one of the side seams so you can place all of the football items inside. Tie a piece of ribbon to it that kids can pull on to release the goodies inside.
Note: Here are the items I placed in my mini piñata.
pop top football pen | hand clapper | tattoos | football chocolates | football whistle | football bouncy ball | glitter putty
I purchased all of the items at Party City for about $6.
Happy game day!
I’m sharing this craft over at A Simple Pantry.
That is so cute! Since I live in a house full of football lovin’ boys, we will have to try this!
Yeah, it would make a great boy’s birthday party idea too!
What a fun idea! I love this – especially since the commercials and halftime show are not exactly kid-friendly most years!
I know… such a shame.
Very cute! My big kids have decided they like football and they would love this!
This is just adorable. I didn’t realize how easy pinatas were to make! I’m going to have to give this a try!
They really are so very easy. Normally I would purchase a roll of crepe paper streamers and glue them on like fringing, but because I wanted the white stitching, it was quicker and easier to do with duck tape.
SO CREATIVE and wayyyy less expensive than buying one of those typical pinatas you find! I LOVE IT 🙂 And I don’t even LOVE football! ha ah.
Haha, me either. But I do love Superbowl parties . . . apps and drinks are my faves. 🙂
I haven’t purchased a pinata in years, I make them for all the parties now, they are so quick and easy, and I love that you can customize with themes and colors.
Love this! A craft even those of us that are super craft challenged can do.
Exactly! Even I might be able to handle this, lol. Thank goodness my girls are old enough to do most of their own crafts. They got the gene. I guess it skipped a generation.
This is SO stinkin’ cute!!!
I love this idea because a pinata is a great way for kids to work out some of their energy during a time when the parents REALLY want to be inside because the big game is on. If you have a big enough space, you could totally do the pinata game inside, too!
