DIY Football Piñata: Game Day Activity for Kids

It’s almost time for the Super Bowl, and while we are all planning parties and food for the big game, let’s not forget a little something to keep the kids entertained too because nobody wants to be watching the game and hearing those two little words “I’m bored.”

Hi, it’s Tonya again, and I’ve got a fun craft project with activities that the kids are going to love on game day.

DIY mini football piñata: a great Game Day activity for kids that is sure to keep them occupied while you cheer on your favorite team!

This DIY mini football piñata is quick and easy to make. It’s the perfect addition to your game day party and is bound to keep kids occupied. You can fill each with age appropriate items, and the kids can take them home at the end of the party.

What you need:

  • Cardboard – an old box is perfect
  • Duck Tape – brown and white
  • Packing tape
  • Scissors
  • String – or curling ribbon like I used
  • Assorted football themed trinkets – make sure they are small enough to fit inside the pinata and through a small opening.

Begin by cutting out two football shapes from the cardboard along with 2.5″ inch strip (or two depending on how long your box is).

Tape the strip(s) to one cardboard football using the packing tape, and then add the other cardboard football on top and tape that together too.

How to make a football pinata for game day

Using the brown Duck Tape cover the entire cardboard football. Start with a strip down the center, then work your way out, doing the sides last.

Cut thinner strips of white Duck Tape to create the stitching on the front side of the football.

Using a box cutter, but a flap on one of the side seams so you can place all of the football items inside. Tie a piece of ribbon to it that kids can pull on to release the goodies inside.
