5 Ways to Wear a Denim Skirt for Summer

Happy hump day, friends! I had quite a day yesterday shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and I’m putting my finishing touches on my pictures so I can share them with you along with my top picks.

While Early Access to the sale for all cardholders starts on Friday (7/12) at 12:30 PM EST both in store and online, I’ve learned that those with Icon/Level 4 and Ambassador/Level 3 statuses can shop online starting on Thursday (tomorrow) at 12:30 PM EST. That means if you don’t have a store nearby, you can still get in a little bit ahead of the rush on Friday.

So given that new bit of intel, I will be publishing my Guide to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale on Thursday at 12:30 PM EST. I also have a fun giveaway planned, so be sure to stay tuned for that!

If you want to be the first to receive my NSale Guide as soon as it’s published, be sure you’re signed up for my NSale Insiders email list or a member of my NSale Insiders Facebook Group. I’ll be sharing my post there first, or you can just be sure to check my blog at that time.

Despite all the hype over new fall styles, we still have a LOT of summer left, so I asked on my main FB page for some suggestions on a 5 ways to wear post.

I got some good ideas, but a lot of them were not ones I could do with what I have in my closet… or ideally in my photo archives, haha! So I decided to go with 5 Ways to Wear a Denim Skirt for Summer.

5 Ways to Wear a Denim Skirt for Summer

#1. Denim Skirt + Floral Blouse + Mules

This is a look from last summer, and this floral top was from LOFT, I believe. I know the skirt was from Target, and those mules were a Vince purchase I made during an end of season clearance sale. So basically, it’s all old, but this look can easily be recreated with items in your closet, or you can find similar styles at one of your favorite retailers.

#2. Denim Skirt + White Tee (or tank) + Slides

I wore this on vacation in Florida last spring, and I did a photo shoot with a local photographer so we captured this look. This is the Madewell whisper muscle tank, and I have it in the medium. The skirt is AG, and it is sooo comfortable. This one is similar and on sale at Off 5th. The slides are also from last year, but I like these even better.

#3. Denim Skirt + Tank + Sandals

Well, if this isn’t a blast from the past! Haha! I found this when I searched “denim skirt” on my blog, and I would still wear this three years later.

That bag… does anyone remember it? It was my first R Minkoff… in fact, it was the bag that introduced me to her brand. I stalked it until it went on sale and then sent the link to my husband, and lo and behold, I unwrapped it on my 40th birthday!

I carried that bag for years — until it was so yellowed I had to lay it to rest, but looking at that picture, I would still carry it today. I wish I could find it somewhere!

Anyway, I digress! This outfit… haha! It’s super simple, of course. Black tank and a denim skirt is certainly not ground breaking, but when they are good quality and fit well, all you need to do is add some fun accessories for a polished yet casual look that will take you almost anywhere in the summertime.

#4. Denim Skirt + Striped Tee + Neutral Booties

This is more of a transition look — in fact, I got that stripe tee, booties, and bag at the 2017 #NSale! Again, it’s simple — most my outfits are — but I think it’s another good example of how good fit and a few well-placed accessories are key to making an outfit look polished and stylish.

#5. Denim Skirt + Tie Front Tank + Sandals

This is an outfit many of you may remember, as I posted it just a few weeks ago. I love a tie front top for pairing with a skirt — it doesn’t require any tucking, and it keeps the look on trend since a denim skirt can look dated if you’re not careful.

FYI, this tank is finally on sale again — it’s marked down to $24.99 plus Madewell is running a promo for an extra 30% off sale styles with code VERYRARE.

  1. I love this post I have been wearing a lot of skirts this summer instead of shorts. These post are very helpful. I also learned from you this summer to wear more dresses what you called “one and done” and it has been the best advice. Thank you for all your help! The light weight summer accessories add so much to the outfit so we look put together… I look forward to your emails every day!

  2. That is a cute purse!  I would totally carry it too, wish they’d make it again!  Maybe we should take up a petition?  Lol
If you don’t mind a slightly used one, check Poshmark. I’ve often been able to find replacements for old faves that are out of production.  Sometimes the quality isn’t great but then sometimes you can find them in almost new condition,  or occasionally new with tags.   Check it out!

  3. For the ladies that own a denim skirt, your outfits should give them some ideas.  I hope the weather was nice for your photo shoot.  It is so humid here, that you’d be soaked in just a few minutes and if your hair is like mine, it would not look the way it did when you walked out the door.  😉

  4. Great jean skirt ideas!  You happened to mention your Rebecca Minkoff purse yellowed.  What do mean, and how did that happen?  I have higher end purses that are many years old, including a gorgeous, leather white one, and they still look great.

      1. That would explain it for sure.  I hope you can find a similar one to replace that one, as it is a really nice handbag!

  5. Can you tell how NOT to wear Jean skirts that make them look frumpy or dated? I love them, but worry about the proportions. Thx
