A Stylish Black & White Outfit for Spring

* This post is sponsored by Nordstrom and Collective Voice.

There’s nothing quite as chic as a black and white outfit in the spring, and I was inspired to create this look when this raw edge linen jacket arrived from Nordstrom.

Tommy Bahama linen jacket (S) // Halogen raw-edge tank (S) // MOTHER Hustler (29) // Vince wedges (8) (similar for less) // YSL belt (similar for less) // similar handbag (similar for less)

I’ve been jonesing for a non-denim jacket for those times when I want to look casual but elevated – something not as tailored as a blazer but not as sporty as a utility or bomber jacket – and this jacket fits the bill perfectly!

It’s such a nice length, and the raw edge details and flattering seams give the boxy jacket just enough structure to be flattering without being too sweet.

It has adjustable button tabs at the waistband, and it’s 22 1/2″ long, so it works well with higher rise pants and jeans. This jacket also comes in white, and it runs true to size; I’m wearing the small.

For an elevated look that I might wear to church or out to lunch with a friend, I styled the black linen jacket over a black and white printed woven tank with white ankle bootcut jeans.

I also pushed up the sleeves on the jacket to give it a little extra style. (Style Tip: It’s more flattering when your sleeves end at the waist, rather than the hip.)

As an added bonus, this outfit can stand on its own if you get warm and want to remove the jacket.

I’ve had this woven tank for some time; I often wear it with black jeans, but I really like it with the white.

It’s a really nice base layer with an easy fit that skims the body without clinging, and it’s part of the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale!

A few sizes are already gone, but it comes in a lot of other color ways, including some other black and white prints. In fact, I also have the solid black.

The raw edge trim and v-neck in the back are nice details that set it apart from a basic woven tank, and it also hangs a little longer in the back for extra coverage when you bend over.

These jeans are the MOTHER Hustler High Waist Fray Hem Ankle Bootcut Jeans in Fairest Of Them All, a crisp white stretch denim that is easy to dress up or down.

The 27″ inseam is right at ankle-length on me, and the flared leg helps balance out my wider hips and shoulders. They’re true to size, as well.

I usually wear these jeans with a bit of a heel, and these luxe black leather wedge slides are the perfect bookend to this black and white outfit.

The 3 1/2″ stacked wedge heel is stable and walkable, and the cushioned footbed and soft leather upper make them a dream to wear. These run true to size, or size up if in between; I’m in my usual 8, but I sometimes size down in slides.

One of my favorite wardrobe experts is fond of saying, fashion is planned, and she is so right. When I go to get dressed for an event or date night, it’s nice to know I have an outfit already put together and ready to go.

I have a feeling this is one of those outfit formulas I’m going to fall back on time and time again this spring and summer.

  1. Such a cute jacket, love the frayed detailing as well as the linen fabric! Unfortunately the cut of the trucker style jackets doesn’t flatter me. I’m curious what alternative you’d recommend with this type outfit. Sweaters seem frumpy, blazers seem too professional. Any other ideas?

  2. Black and white outfits always look so crisp and neat, love the details of that jacket kind of “shabby chic”, so many options.

  3. This is a typical outfit for me. When I can’t decide what I want to wear, black and white are what I go to. I love vibrant yet, black and white always look chic.

  4. I bought the TB jacket in the khaki tan color last summer and love it. It’s a perfect spring/summer jacket. I even took it with me to Europe last summer (was a great jacket to wear on the plane). I bought mine at the Tommy Bahama store and was told it’s their best selling jacket.

  5. Love this outfit! I just looked through my closet and found two black jackets that look similar to yours. Ordered the top to complete the outfit.
