All Black with a Pop of Color

snowscarf-8

Well, this is quite a shift from yesterday’s post, isn’t it!?! We took these pictures the day after our epic snowstorm last month. I got dressed to spend the day at home, so I wanted to be comfortable and warm.

I decided to wear leggings but then realized I didn’t really plan many tops to go with my leggings in my capsule wardrobe, so I tried them with this black split hem tunic. Turns out, I really like this look!

I played around with different boots, but I ended up wearing black boots as well. Incidentally, these UGG Classic Cardy Knit Boots are on sale 30% off at Nordstrom! They are like wearing slippers.

I wore the scarf to brighten up the look and also for warmth. It is super thick, but I actually wore it in the house because I was so chilly. It is BACK in stock, and on sale for $39 at J.Crew!!!

I held the bag just for fun because it matched so well. I didn’t go anywhere that day. Ha!

  1. Yet another stunning & practical outfit! Definitely comfy looking to run errands in or just go out & about! Hopefully you can see your sidewalk & some grass by now! We took a trip to Lancaster County last week for a few days & couldn’t believe how much snow! And the worst part was Rockvale & Tanger outlets are on winter hours……no shopping after 6:00! So we went & had a cocktail instead! What stores do you go to at those outlets?

  2. I love this outfit on you! You are glowing. The scarf’s colours really suit your complexion, and the scarf is what makes the outfit. Just black would be too sad and drab. I love the scarf so much I want to buy it but I’m based in the UK so not sure I can order it from J.Crew without expensive mailing costs. You look so classy, stylish but young! Oh, and I love the glasses. Super sophisticated. Just brilliant.

  3. Love, love, love all black outfits. I even have a Pinterest board just for all black outfits. There aren’t very many days in the year when I am not wearing black, if not all black, then at least black shoes and shirt/sweater. I gave up fighting it and worrying about what people think. I like black, grey, and occasionally reds, greens, and blues. No patterns, no florals, no tunics, just classic cut/fitted pieces. I finally cancelled my Stitch Fix subscription this week because I had a closet full of pieces that I should never have purchased but was trying something new. Turns out that I still like what I have always liked. I do buy lots of jeans, all styles. I love premium denim. Handbags, boots, and athletic clothes are also a weakness. 🙂 There is a blogger than did a You Tube about style. Her entire closet is black, grey, and white (maybe some off white as well). Her home is the same colors. She just learned to stick with what she loves. You look great in black. 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you and Cyndi wear for Spring. 🙂

  4. I say March also. I usually start think about spring about that time. I’m in the cold mid-west so we can have cold weather until May
:(. But to me Easter says it’s time for Spring. I love you look today!

  5. I’m ready for spring shopping, but, realistically we have another two months of winter here in Salem, Massachusetts. Guess I’ll stay with the winter capsule for awhile. I love the simplicity of your black outfit combined with the beautiful colors of your scarf! Between our facebook group and your post I’m ready to shop my closet and get dressed for the day!

      1. I love it Jo-Lynne! It’s mentally liberating for me. I’m trying to figure out if the change has come from paring back so thoroughly or from having limited but very workable choices, I’m not sure. I do know that I don’t miss a single item that I let go. I think my next step is to only replace items with updated versions of a similar purpose. I’m hoping that this will keep my space manageable and my style current.

  6. I love the mint pants and white top with accent sleeves on the front page! Deets on that spring outfit please!! I live in LA, it’s springlike weather already!! 🙂

    1. I think you’re talking about my email, right? That outfit is from last year. The sweater was from LOFT, and the mint skinnies are Paige. 🙂 But I’ll be scouting out new spring styles soon!

      1. Yes! That’s the outfit! I thought the sweater was Loft, I just bought it in black last week. Now I need white too!!! Thanks 🙂

  7. Love the all black, it looks great on you! I like to think ahead for the seasons. I am already pretty bored with Winter and thinking about pieces that can transition into Spring for anything new I buy so I would say start in March.

  8. Please start the spring blog in March! I need all new clothes from losing weight (yay!) And I have no clue where to start. Thanks!!!

  9. Love this outfit on you! I travel for work, and because I usually see different people every day, I almost always travel with all black pants, tops, shoes and boots, with a half dozen scarves to brighten the look! Add classic jewelry and a pop of color bag or two, and I’m on the road! And….March 1 for Spring….March 15 at the latest! You and Cyndi are the best!

  10. You look adorable as always! Your outfit looks comfy, and put together. I love the all black, very chic.
I hope you and Cyndi will start your spring series in March. It’s 28 degrees here in Indiana today, but I definitely have spring fever.
I look forward to your blog each day!

  11. Forgot to leave comment about starting your spring fashion! I’m voting for beginning of March. Already I’ve picked up a few spring active wear outfits. If I’d wait until end of March, chances are they’d be gone or my size picked over. Lands End & Talbot catalogs all have their early spring out so I’m ready to start looking ahead!

  12. Definitely one of my favorite looks from your capsule. Really love the scarf, and I’d be tempted if it weren’t so warm here. It’s really the perfect touch.
I’m all for an earlier Spring series. We’re sometimes warming up nicely by late February down here!

  13. Love the black with the plaid scarf. The pink bag is perfect with the outfit as well. I REALLY LOVE your glasses. Can you tell me the brand name of the glasses. They are exactly what I’m looking for.
