Fall Fashion Try-On Haul

Greetings, friends! I’ve got a new try-on haul for you today, with a bunch of denim and tops for this transition season. Let’s dive right in!

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

Pistola Alice Denim Maxi Skirt

at Evereve and Nordstrom (29) // stripe tank (S) // similar slides

Details:

  • 34 1/2″ length (size 29)
  • 100% cotton
  • Machine wash, tumble dry

Long denim skirts are trending this fall, and this one caught my eye on the Evereve website, but it’s also at Nordstrom. It’s a rigid 100% cotton fabric without much give, but I like the subtle acid wash finish to the denim and the easy raw hem.

The front slit is quite high. It doesn’t bother me when I’m standing and walking, but it can be a bit of a liability when I sit down. Still, I really like the look, and I feel like the rear pocket size and placement is flattering too.

VERDICT: I’m definitely considering keeping this one. Keep reading . . .

KUT from the Kloth Brea Long Skirt

at Evereve and on sale at Nordstrom (29) // stripe tank (S) // Splendid mules (8) // similar slides

Details:

  • 36″ length (size 8)
  • 59% Cotton, 21% Hemp, 20% Ecovero Denim
  • Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Hang To Dry

This is a very similar skirt by KUT from the Kloth, also an Evereve find. In fact, I tried it on in-store a few weeks ago and left it there, but then I ended up ordering it.

It’s a thinner, softer denim than the Pistola Alice, and it might be a tad longer. The slit is not as high, which is nice, and it’s very comfortable to wear. The rear pockets are a little larger, and I’m not sure I like them as well, and the wash is a little more uniform, which may appeal to some more than others.

VERDICT: I’m conflicted! These are both great skirts and very similar.

Sizing Notes: The KUT from the Kloth Brea fits great in the size 6, but I may need to try a size up to a 30 in the Pistola Alice. It’s quite snug in the waist and didn’t loosen up much with wear. All that to say, size down if ordering the KUT Brea, and size up if ordering the Pistola Alice.

KUT from the Kloth Sienna Wide Cuff Jean

at Evereve and Zappos (29) // stripe tank (S) // Splendid mules (8) // black stripe tank (S) // red slingbacks (8)

Details:

  • 12″ Front Rise
  • 32″ Inseam Length (uncuffed)
  • 18 1/2″ Leg Opening
  • 82% Cotton, 12% Polyester, 5% Recycled Cotton, 1% Spandex Denim
  • Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Tumble Dry Low

Cuffed jeans are another spring 2024 trend that’s carrying over to fall, and I love this pair in a darker wash denim. They have a 5″ cuff, which brings them to a longer ankle length on me, and a pretty high front rise, at 12″.

STYLE TIP: I don’t mind higher rises; I just try to wear them with tops that are the right length and shape to wear without needing to tuck.

These jeans have a nice fit and feel, but I’m not crazy about that fading on the back of the thigh. The fit is pretty generous; I’m in my usual KUT from the Kloth size 6, and they’re pretty roomy.

VERDICT: I’m going to hold onto these for a bit and see if I reach for them, but I’m also going to keep my eye out for other options. I might prefer a full length version to offset the way the big cuff chops up the line of the leg.

Reese Stripe Tank

at Evereve (M) // straight ankle jeans (29) // Splendid mule (8)

Details:

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22″
  • Material: 51% Viscose, 28% PBT, 21% Nylon Knit
  • Care: Hand Wash, Wash Cold, Dry Flat

I love this little sweater vest with the taupe stripes; it’s such a nice soft fabric, and I feel like the stripe placement is flattering. I ordered the small and the medium, and I’m wearing the medium above.

The photos below show how it looks in the size small, with my Frank & Eileen gaucho jeans on the left and my PAIGE Anessa wide leg jeans* on the right.

* The 31″ PAIGE Anessa in a similar wash is currently on sale at Anthro!

VERDICT: I initially thought I liked the more relaxed fit of the medium, but when I tried on the small the other day with the wider leg jeans, I decided to keep that one. I can tell it will stretch some, if I want it to, and the medium was rather low-cut and gaped a bit in the neckline.

Kara Coated Tee

at Evereve (S) // KUT from the Kloth Meg 31″ (6) // Vince Pia (8)

Details:

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22 1/2″
  • Material: 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex Coated Knit
  • Care: Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Dry Flat

I’m loving the shiny tops I’m seeing out right now. Paired with jeans, they make such a fun, edgy date night look. This one is made of a coated knit fabric and has an on-trend seamed shoulder detail that’s great for balancing wider hips. My only caveat is I don’t love that split hem; it doesn’t front tuck quite as neatly as the one below.

VERDICT: I’m debating. Keep reading…

Porridge Shine Glam Tee

at Anthropologie (S) // KUT from the Kloth Meg 31″ (6) // Vince Pia (8)

Details:

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 21″
  • Material: Polyester, Spandex
  • Care: Hand Wash, Wash Cold, Dry Flat

This top is a similar idea to the one above, although it has a bit more shine to it and it has more of a traditional short sleeve. It’s also more sheer. I would definitely need a black bra underneath.

I like the slightly shorter length and the straight hem; it seems to front tuck more nicely. This top also comes in petite and plus sizes, and there are a bunch of other colors available.

VERDICT: I’m debating; I will definitely keep this one or the Kara Coated Tee.

KUT from the Kloth Meg 31″

at Evereve (S) // Porridge tee (S) // Vince Pia (8)

Details:

  • Front Rise: 10 1/4″
  • Inseam Length: 31 1/4″
  • 93% Cotton, 6% Polyester, 1% Spandex Denim
  • Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Hang To Dry

A full-length inseam updates these popular KUT from the Kloth Meg wide leg jeans. These have a medium blue wash and they’re made of a super soft and comfortable stretch denim with raw hems that make them easy to shorten, if you need to.

VERDICT: I like these a lot; but I have the PAIGE Anessa from the #NSale, which I’m wearing below with the animal print tee, and I don’t need both. Otherwise, I’d keep them, for sure.

LNA Zuri Ribbed Crew

at Evereve (S) // PAIGE Anessa 31″ (similar ON SALE) (29) // Vince Pia (8)

Details:

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22″
  • Material: 95% Rayon, 5% Spandex Rib Knit
  • Care: Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Delicate / Gentle Cycle, Tumble Dry Low

I thought this top would be super cute for transitioning my denim to fall, and would layer nicely under my new black Rails jacket, but it runs sooooo small. This is the size medium, and it’s skintight.

VERDICT: Going back; I guess I could order the large, but I’m not even sure that would fit.

LNA Joey Fleece Half Zip

at Evereve (S) // Pistola Monroe (39) // Vince Oasis (39)

Details:

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 21 3/4″
  • Material: 67% Polyester, 33% Cotton Fleece
  • Care: Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Delicate / Gentle Cycle, Tumble Dry Low

I’m always a sucker for a beyond-basic sweatshirt, and the red is really bold and fun for fall. It’s lined with a super soft fleece; and I love the cropped fit, reverse seam details, and adjustable bungee hem.

The only thing holding me back is how bulky the sleeves are, especially where that drop shoulder seam is, but I think I can get past that. It’s supposed to be big and boxy.

VERDICT: Keeping! I can definitely see myself getting a lot of wear out of this sweatshirt this fall.

Mack Zipper Sweatshirt

at Evereve (S) // Pistola Monroe (39) // Vince Oasis (39)

Details:

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 23″
  • Material: 85% Cotton, 15% Polyester Knit; Lining: 60% Cotton, 40% Polyester
  • Care: Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Dry Flat

This is another super cute beyond-basic sweatshirt, and of course I love that it’s black. The trim at the armholes and the zippers along the sides are fun details, and I love that it’s a little longer and straighter through the body than the red one.

My only issue is that bulky hood. It’s really rather cumbersome, but I might keep it and just wear it when I have my hair in a ponytail. I really need to learn to do more of a stylish ponytail, so I can have some variety in my hairstyles… but that’s a post for another day.

VERDICT: I’m still deciding on this one.

Roll Neck Sweater

50% off at Gap Factory (S) // wide leg jeans (29)

Details:

  • Straight, easy fit
  • 100% Cotton
  • Machine wash cold. Tumble dry low

This is Gap Factory’s version of a classic cotton roll neck sweater, and it’s really good. Plus, it’s 50% off right now. It has a classic fit, and I think these shades of red and pink are so pretty together.

VERDICT: Keeping! This will be fun to wear when the weather turns cooler.

Mid Rise ’90s Loose Jeans

60% off at Gap Factory (29) // stripe sweater (S) // Franco Sarto Booties (8)

Details:

  • Low-stretch denim
  • Mid rise
  • Inseam: 29.5″

These wide leg jeans have a vintage-inspired rigid look and feel, and they’re a nice medium indigo wash with some subtle fading and whiskering. They’re 60% off right now, and they come in regular, short, and tall sizes.

The regular size 29 fits me perfectly, although they’re slightly too long for flat sneakers, so I put them with a 2″ heeled bootie. These are a nice budget-friendly alternative for the MOTHER Hustler Roller Skimp… which happen to be on sale right now!

VERDICT: I don’t need these, but they’re a great option if you’re looking for this style of denim this fall.

Wit & Wisdom ‘Ab’Solution High Waist Wide Leg Jeans

at Nordstrom (6) // stripe sweater (S) // Franco Sarto Booties (8)

Details:

  • 28″ inseam; 22″ leg opening; 10 1/2″ front rise; 15 1/2″ back rise (size 8P)
  • Zip fly with button closure
  • Five-pocket style
  • 91% cotton, 8% polyester, 1% spandex
  • Machine wash, tumble dry

This is another good alternative to those MOTHER Rollers, from Wit & Wisdom. The fabric on these is softer and lighter than the Gap Factory pair, and I really like the trouser-style hems. Plus, they have the Wit & Wisdom ‘Ab’solution powermesh panels that are designed to mold and hold.

Sizing Notes: I believe their inseam measurement is incorrect. They must be more of a 30″ or 31″ inseam, because I paired them with those same 2″ heel booties, and they are almost on the ground even with those.

VERDICT: These are a solid option for a slim wide leg jean under $100. I’m not crazy about the amount of fading on the thighs, but it’s not a deal breaker. It just gives them a more casual vibe.

Wit & Wisdom Itty Bitty Bootcut Jeans

at Nordstrom (S) // stripe sweater (S) // Blondo boots (8.5)

Details:

  • 32″ inseam; 16 1/2″ leg opening; 9 3/4″ front rise; 14″ back rise (size 8)
  • 54% cotton, 27% rayon, 17% polyester, 2% spandex
  • Machine wash, tumble dry

Dark rinse washes are making a comeback this fall, and I ordered this pair to try. These are great if you want a dressier denim option.

The Wit & Wisdom Itty Bitty Bootcut is a slim bootcut style that has been around for years, and it’s one of their best selling and most loved styles. These have a classic appeal that might appeal to those ladies who aren’t crazy about the wider let and flare styles.

VERDICT: The fabric on these feels a little rough to me, and I’m going to keep an eye out for a pair in one of my favorite premium denim brands, and maybe more of a flare or slim wide leg style.

High Rise ’90s Original Straight Jean

50% off at Gap Factory (29) // stripe sweater (S) // Vince sneakers (39)

Details:

  • 30.5″ Inseam Length
  • 93% Cotton, 5% Recycled Cotton, 2% Elastane.
  • Machine wash warm. Tumble dry medium.

We’re back to Gap Factory here, and these are their 90s inspired straight leg jeans. The 30.5″ inseam is almost too long on me, even for a full length style. They get a little bunchy, but they could be shortened, or they also come in short sizes.

Here’s how they look with that 2″ heel bootie. It’s a little better. These are made of a nice stretchy, soft denim, and they come in lots of different washes.

I ordered these to show an off-black wash, and specifically to pair with this camel/black stripe sweater, but I might like them better in one of the blue denim washes.

VERDICT: These are worth a try if you like the silhouette. If you want to wear them with flats, and you’re my height or thereabouts, you may want to try the short length.

And that’s a wrap! Tomorrow I’ve got a post with Nordstrom, styling a bunch of my favorite fall trends, so stay tuned for that!

  1. I like the vest and the black tops. The shorter one you don’t need to front tuck which is a plus I think. The leopard one has too high a neck and looks uncomfortable. The cuff in the jeans is too high a contrast. They cut off the length of your legs like capris. I like the wide cuff jeans in a light wash better. I’m going to check out the wide leg Gap jeans. Next week it might look like fall here. Highs in the 80’s.

    1. Do the Wit and Wisdom wide leg jeans have a strong chemical smell? I was reading the reviews because I like them. One person couldn’t even try them on. I know the smell she’s talking about. It is hard to get rid of. The 28 inseam is for the petite style.

  2. HI!! That first striped vest is SO cute, I think you made the right call on keeping the small! Looks great! I think it’ll layer well under a jacket later on. BTW- the Vince cotton blend chore jacket that’s on sale at Nordstrom right now is a great little piece in Navy! These would look fabulous together! Did you try that jacket from NSale?
(I noticed you’ve got the measurements for an 8P on the denim that you disagreed with the length- that might be why)
I like the caramel and black (or navy?) stripe cotton sweater as well!
I’m interested in trying a denim maxi- MAYBE! LOL

    1. It’s funny how it’s called a chore jacket, as I would certainly not be doing chores in anything that nice (and expensive!)

  3. If you’re looking for a dark wash flare, try mother weekender in heirloom wash. Just got them and love them. Finished hem and mid rise.

    1. I will look for those! I’ve noticed some finished hem options in those and wondered if I want some. I have the Paige laurel canyon that usually serves that purpose but they need a heel.

  4. I got so excited to see your Try On Haul posts! I got myself a fresh cup of coffee and settled in. You found great things, but I want to know about the Splendid Mules you’re wearing. Mainly, do they stay on your feet when you walk? I love the look of them.

  5. I like the sweater vests on you. You look fabulous in the red sweatshirt! I have said that I was not going to order in clothes for the cooler months until I can inventory what is packed up in the attic, but you, Cyndi, and Tania keep sharing too any great items. Have a great day!

  6. I’m having trouble zooming the photos when viewing on my iPhone; it moves around so much and all over the screen. Would this be issue on your end or mine?
I wish you had kept the Wit n’ Wisdom Itty Bitty Boot cut. I have them, but have yet to wear them, as not use to the dark wash. I bought them early in the Spring. Looking for more outfit inspirations. 🙂 Great finds in this post.

    1. Ugh, I hate to hear that. It’s so hard to say; there are so many factors. Different phones, different browsers, some people have ad blocking software, etc. I just went on my iPhone in the Chrome browser and viewed today’s post. I scrolled around, zoomed in on pictures, and everything was working well for me.

      1. 90% of the time your photos can be zoomed in on my iPhone, but sometimes I think those pesky ads get in the way and then your photos act a little crazy. I know the ads are a necessary part of things, but maybe they can be part of Kathy and Cheryl’s issues. I usually read your blog on my laptop and there is no issue there. But then again I never need to zoom into your photos on a 17″ monitor! HA!!!

        1. Yeah it sounds like maybe the ads aren’t fully loaded and making things jump around? I thought my ad network fixed that by putting them all in “containers” that hold the places till the ads load. It’s so hard to troubleshoot user experience issues. I will try it again on another browser and see how it’s working. Also slower network connections can make my photos load more slowly – and that causes the jumping around too.

  7. I also appreciate and enjoy the fashion tips and try on haul!

Question – do you follow a color palette, such as a winter? I feel like this would describe you, but I see you in many colors other than this.
Thanks for your help. I’m a winter and sometimes I feel boxed in, but also knowing those colors do look better on me.

    1. I wear colors I like and most probably fall into the Winter category but not always. I feel like this is one of those “learn the rules so you know when to break them” situations. Much like I know my body type and what looks best but sometimes I choose to wear things that aren’t conventionally the most flattering because I like them and want to wear them. If you feel boxed in, maybe branch out a little and see how you feel.

    1. I just checked your email in my Flodesk account and it looks like you are active and there are no issues I can see on my end. Maybe check your spam and promotions folders and see if it got stuck somewhere like that?

  8. Oh man. I promised myself I would not clothes shop until my medical bills were paid off, but those striped sweaters from Gap Factory are calling to me! I doubt I *need* them, though. This is a great post. I LOVE and so appreciate your attention to detail!
