Fall/Winter Boot Refresh with DSW

Now that winter weather is finally settling in, I’m pretty much living in sweaters and jeans and boots, and I’m loving it! While I hate to be cold, I know I’d really miss dressing for winter if I lived in a warmer climate.

Today I’m teaming up with DSW to talk about the 3 types of boots to have in your winter wardrobe to complete your casual outfits.

Shopping at DSW is a great way to make your budget go a little further because they have great prices on designer shoes and boots for the whole family, as well as free shipping every day.

I also like how easy it is to search their site for what you need. You can use their filters to drill down by size, occasion, brand, type of shoe, color, price point, heel height, shaft width, and more! This is especially helpful when looking for specific items like, say, tall boots with a narrow calf.

Speaking of which, these Lucky Brand OTK boots have a 13″ calf circumference, so they’re perfect for those of us with smaller calves.

That said, the front of the boot is suede (or leather if you opt for the black) and the back is a synthetic material with lots of stretch, so that helps them mold to the shape of your leg, and it will stretch to accommodate those with larger calves as well.

I also really like the 16½”-18″ shaft height. (There’s a range because it varies a bit based on the size of the boot.) It’s nice because they don’t come up super high on the thigh, but they just cover the knee.

They have a walkable 1¾” stacked block heel and some good arch support — great for those of us with finicky feet!

These boots look great worn over skinny jeans with a chunky sweater.

I love a black boot, but I’m also a huge fan of this grey. You can’t go wrong with either, but grey is a little softer and pairs well with so many different colors and neutrals.

Booties are having a moment this season, and I find myself wearing them more than any other style of shoe so I like to have a few different options.

The hiker boot / combat boot trend is huge right now, and they’re perfect for your most casual looks.

C has finicky feet and has to be careful about the shoes she wears.

She was really excited when she tried on these combat boots and felt how comfortable they are, and I was excited about the price!

They’re made by Crown Vintage — one of the DSW Made brands — and we were both impressed with the comfort level as well as the styling.

I love both of these boots for casual looks, and the best part is, they’re warm! Both slide right on over your skinny jeans, no socks required.

While both of these boots are great with casual looks, I also like to have a leather bootie with a heel for my dressier looks — and for when the weather isn’t conducive to wearing suede.

These Franco Sarto booties are perfect for that!

The almond toe is flattering and also comfortable, and I love the asymmetrical topline for a modern edge.

These booties have a 2½” stacked block heel and a padded footbed, and the leather is really gorgeous. Check out their over 100 5-star reviews!

They’re also incredibly comfortable — perfect for the mall or other venues that requires a lot of walking. You can tell where I spend my time! Haha!

They run true to size, and they also come in a versatile shade of taupe.

  1. Love this post, especially since I have been a DSW shopper for years.  I totally agree with your comments about shopping their online!!  I am going to look into the combat boots Caroline is wearing since the one pair of chunky short boots I have are used in the woods.  I need to have a dedicated pair that aren’t worn when hunting.  I agree that the majority of us have a lot going on now, even if we don’t have parties, etc., in the mix.  Have an awesome day!  Thank goodness we survived the 3 1/2” of rain yesterday, and the cold has returned, along with the sun, until Saturday.

  2. Love those combat boots! Too cute! Wish I had more time that I was that casual to wear them. Those black booties with your ankles showing made me cold! 🙂

  3. One of my favorite pairs of booties are the Crown Vintage. DSW has such good sales and coupons too. I’ve bought two new pairs of boots/booties this season from them and love them. Y’all are so cute together. I love seeing you girls together. I wish my daughter lived near by so I could get her in on the “fun”. XO

  4. That picture of you and Caroline looking at each other is beautiful. I think it needs to be framed and displayed somewhere in your house.

  5. I love the picture of you and your daughter looking sideways at each other! She is definitely a blonde version of you! Love DSW too. It’s been so cold the last couple weeks in So CA. It’s only 62 today and I’ve been freezing all day. I’m currently eating a hot lunch trying to warm up! I only wore a thin blouse with cropped jeans and a long cardigan today and there’s not enough warmth. Makes me want to buy a cashmere sweater but it’d have to a really classic style that I could wear for years since I wouldn’t wear it much.

  6. its always nice to see the mother daughter duo…. I really need to make a visit to DSW although I really don’t need anymore boots after purchasing new ones already. I may start to look at shoes and plan ahead for the spring…
