Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style 03.18.15

Welcome back to my weekly Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style post where I share what I wore this week and link up with other fabulous fashion bloggers around the web! I’m just a mom trying to stay fabulous after 40 and sharing how I translate the current trends to work for a typical suburban mom. I hope you find some fashion inspiration here.

Fashion for Women Over 40: Outfit Ideas

I wore this one mild day last week to run errands and work from home. I picked up the Ramones burnout tee at Kohl’s. It’s their Rock & Republic Brand, which I love.

I love the edgy vibe, and the relaxed styling is easy to wear. Plus, I enjoy a little punk rock every once in a while. I Wanna Be Sedated was on my running playlist for ages. I know, go figure.

I just wore it with my favorite skinnies and ballet flats. I felt like the outfit needed a statement earring, so I took the opportunity to wear these new Silpada Half Moon Earrings.

This is the first spring outfit I pulled out of my closet this year. I’ve been dying to wear these mint jeans again, and this white tee from White House Black Market has been hanging in my closet, just waiting for the first mild day. The shoes are from the Payless Dexflex comfort collection. I LOVE them.

Saturday was a dreary, rainy day, but I promised my girls I’d take them to the mall, so I dressed for the weather in my rain boots, light-wash Mavi skinnies, grey cashmere hoodie and lavender tank.

I love these perfect fit tanks from J.Crew. In fact, I just ordered FIVE of them. Yes, I did. They are on sale, and my tanks need to be freshened up.

On Sunday, I wore the black and white striped tunic I picked up at White House Black Market when I was shopping on Saturday with my ponte pants and black pointy-toe flats.

I decided it was time to dust off my favorite green handbag. I love this bright spring green.

I thought you might want to see a photo of the back of this outfit. I like that the sweater is plain black in back. The button detail on the sleeves is cute, and the asymmetrical styling is fun and flattering.

I accessorized with a long gold necklace, gold teardrop earrings, and a gold link bracelet, all from my Stella & Dot boutique.

Finally, yesterday I wore this outfit to meet Colleen for lunch. Yes, I got to have lunch with my fabulous food contributor. The irony is I wore green, and she’s didn’t, and she’s the one who is Irish. Go figure!

I got this jacket in my last Stitch Fix. It’s perfect for spring. I like the 3/4-length cuffed sleeves that show a hint of the polka-dot lining. I couldn’t decide if I preferred it buttoned or unbuttoned. I know unbuttoned is a more current look, but I sort of like this one buttoned. What do you think?

I accessorized with my orange Tory Burch Logo Bracelet and Alex and Ani bangles. Gotta get a hint of orange in there as a nod to my Protestant heritage. I also wore gold earrings and a gold necklace.

  1. i love the pops of colors in these outfits. I am going to look for colored jeans and I love the Ramones shirt.

  2. Please tell me what type of flats you wear. I have yet to find a pair that do not cause blisters or hurt unless they are sandels and it is too cold in early spring for sandels…thanks!

    1. Hey Kathy. In the post, I linked to the flats I’m wearing in these pictures. I have a lot of ballet flats, and some are more comfortable than others, but I don’t usually have a problem with blisters. The Taos Untold are very supportive, and I love my Cobb Hill Emma flats (not shown in this post: http://bit.ly/1DC9R5d). Hope that helps!

  3. Do you color your own hair or have it done and what is the color you use…it looks do pretty and natural.
thank you for all the encouragement you give! God bless!

    1. Hi Nancy, Thank you so much for the kind words! A while back, it was thinning terribly and I was afraid I’d never have hair again. I’m so thankful it has grown back in, and every time someone compliments me on it, it makes me so happy! 🙂 I do color it – just to cover the grey and keep it shiny. I always try to match my natural hair color, and I go to the salon because I’m scared to touch it myself, lol. Plus, at home hair coloring sounds messy. Ha!

  4. Hello,
I just wanted to say that you are never “just” anything!! Especially when referring to your status as work-at-home mom! Love the posts! Especially the weekly wrap up in case I missed something.

    1. LOL, thanks, Wendy. 🙂 I suppose that isn’t the best way to word that, huh? But seriously, when you see the stuff the “real” fashion bloggers put out – the high style, the perfect photos – it is hard not to feel like a wannabe sometimes. Not that I really want to do that, but you know what I mean. 🙂

  5. I just love how you put together your outfits and accessories. Do you go to ebay for purses a lot? If so, do you have any tips you would like to share. I am so afraid of not getting what I think I am buying. Thanks for all the work you do on your blog it is very inspiring.

    1. Hi Kathy, I have bought purses on ebay, but I usually get mine when they go on clearance sales – that is why the color I have is often no longer available in stores online when I feature them. So then I show the ebay option for people who might want them. You definitely have to be careful buying in ebay because there are a lot of fakes, but there are a lot of good deals to be had as well. I don’t think I’ve ever been burned on a purse, but I was burned on a Tiffany’s bracelet once, lol. It depends on the brand. I don’t think Rebecca Minkoff is popular enough to have fakes yet.
