I was looking at my 22 Days of Spring Fashion posts, and I realized that I have a stripe problem. Haha! There’s also a lot of dark and light combinations going on there. It’s time for something different.
I love the light neutral color palette in this outfit, and the combination of textures keeps it from being too plain.
This is the type of dressed-up casual spring outfit I’ll wear to the mall or for a casual lunch with friends… once the snow melts and the temperatures start rising!
This knit cardigan was gifted to me by Social Threads. At first I wasn’t sure I liked the shape of it, but once I put it on, I appreciated the relaxed styling. I think the key is to wear pieces underneath that are more form-fitting and show your shape.
This lightweight sweater is has an open weave that’s nice for warmer spring days. It’s the perfect drapey cardigan to throw on over a simple t-shirt or tank top with jeans or shorts and sandals, and best of all, it’s just $48.
This U-neck t-shirt is from Everlane. I’ve been testing out white t-shirts for a post coming to the blog later this week, and this is one of the ones I kept.
Unfortunately it appears to have been discontinued, which is a bummer because I really like it. It has a a relaxed fit but still has some shape to it, the material is thin but not see-through, and the neckline is flattering.
You may be able to find some on ebay or poshmark, but I don’t see many right now.
I ordered these jeans from the Shopbop sale because I wanted a lighter wash cropped pair for spring. The price tag is steep, but I got 25% off. They’re really comfortable and flattering, and I can see myself getting A LOT of wear out of these this spring and summer.
They have a higher rise, which I’m a huge fan of right now, and the fit through the rear and legs is really nice. The rise is 10 1/4″, and they have a 26″ inseam with a 10 1/4″ leg opening. I’ve tried a bunch of cropped straight jeans because they’re trending this spring, but I really prefer a cropped skinny for my body type.
For size reference, these run small. I ordered a 29 and a 30, and I’m actually wearing the 30. They were snug when I put them on, but they did stretch out in a comfortable way after I had them on for 20 minutes. Before I decide which pair to send back, I’m planning to wear the 29 around the house for a bit and see how they feel because I don’t want to end up with jeans that are too big — especially at this price!
FIT TIP: One of my best tips for fighting the frump as we get older is to make sure you buy your jeans to fit. Wearing pants that are too big adds visual weight and definitely increases the frump factor.
If you like the look but not the price tag, Loft has a pair that looks quite similar for a fraction of the price, and they’re 40% off right now with code NEWNOW.
So let’s talk about these shoes. I discovered these when they first came out, immediately fell in love and ordered them, and then over the course of the next week, I think every fashion blogger I follow featured them. D’oh! I hate that!
I really do not set out to wear what everyone else wears, and I’m sure it sometimes looks like we’re all in cahoots, but it just so happens that we are often drawn to the same things!
These shoes are really SO good. They’re the perfect “nude color” to elongate the leg, the wedge isn’t crazy high so they’re very comfortable to walk in, but they do add a nice bit of height for those of us who want that. They have a similar look to the popular Marc Fisher ones, but the price is almost half. I also think they’re more flattering because the platform isn’t as high and chunky.
My only issue is they’re a little loose through the ankle. I may go in and have them poke one more hold in the strap for me. They aren’t difficult to walk in, I just think they’d look better if they weren’t so loose.
I meant to wear these big turquoise earrings with this outfit for a fun pop of color, but I totally forgot and left them at home. Oooops! I’m glad I thought to add this long pendant or this outfit would be really plain.
My watch was an #NSale purchase, and it’s no longer available, but this one is similar, just smaller. (Mine is 38mm.) I like wearing a watch with mixed metals, and then it doesn’t bother me as much if I have a mixture of metals in my jewelry and other accessories.
So yeah, basically this entire outfit is comprised of new pieces I just added to my spring wardrobe!
I’m thrilled with the new jeans and wedge sandals, and this sweater is a fun piece to throw on with my crop jeans and shorts outfits this season.

I’m finally catching your post with enough time to comment! I love this outfit on you. I’ve been having to talk myself out of those wedges for awhile since I don’t get the opportunity to wear the ones I have often enough. But…I think part of the reason is that mine are obnoxiously high, and I just don’t feel like me in them. Maybe I should try these and sell my mine, lol. Oh, love the jeans too! Super flattering on you and a great alternative to the wider leg crops out right now. Do those really flatter anyone?!
If you don’t wear the ones you have, that would probably be a good exchange. I wore my marc fisher ones a few times, but the last time I wore them, I twisted my ankle (I have weak ankles already) so I am wary of them now. I think these are more stable.
I love that outfit! I have ordered those wedges. 🙂
Haha! I’m not surprised!
Cute casual outfit! I love that white handbag. I like crossbody bags, but never wear them across the body; I wear them on the shoulder. That, and being short, means I need an adjustable strap – which this pretty bag has!
Yeah, I rarely wear mine across the body – especially this one is kind of clunky worn that way.
For those that are looking for T-shirts that are not too thin, try LL Bean. They make a Pima Cotton which is a thicker material than what’s being sold at department stores. They have a variety of styles and neck lines now. I’ve had some T’s from them years ago and I felt they were a little matronly looking. Their v-necks and crews neck were a little high on the collar but it looks like they’ve updated their style and offer boat neck and more of a scoop neck. They also have tanks that are wider on the shoulder for those that prefer that style.
Good to know!
Oh my, do I ever love those shoes?! I’m going to have to buy those asap!
They are so cute on!
Such a cute outfit. Looks like you are starting to feel the spring vibe and I know as soon as the winter weather finally moves on, it will help as well. You’ve given me some inspiration so I’m heading to DSW to buy some new wedges. Shoes are a “must try on” purchase for me because I have small feet 5.5 or 6 and small ankles so like you, I need to be sure the straps feel snug enough for walking.
What a great look on you! Those shoes may be in my cart soon and I’m thinking about that cardi. Do you mind sharing what size you are wearing in the cardi?
It’s just one size. 🙂
Love each of these pieces..the cardigan is adorable! If you don’t mind, what shade of nail polish are you wearing? I’m in need of a good Spring palette after the dark polishes of winter!
Oh, I meant to include that. It’s CND Cake Pop with Romantique on top. 🙂
I just ordered the linen tee! I love the quality of Sanctuary and I look for tops that might be more ‘forgiving’ to my mid-section. I’m also going to try to get cropped jeans for spring. I love that look. I like your beige sweater too but for gals like me with an extra 15, it tends to look frumpy. It’s great for a slim or average figure those. It looks beautiful on you!
I hear ya, it’s a tricky style to wear. I’m also a huge fan of Sanctuary tops.
I laughed at your comment about the stripes. I always say I need a stripe intervention – they are my go to pattern
Yeah, I don’t usually go for patterns, but I guess I’m making up for that this spring!
Jo-Lynne, i love this outfit and it is particularly flattering on you. You always look nice, but just thought these photos were pretty. I enjoy your blog and appreciate that you are close to my size. I just can’t relate to bloggers that are a size 2! Thank you for being an inspiration and always keeping it real.
Thanks, Kristin! Alison did a good job, and this spot has great light. 🙂
I LOVE neutrals — but I always feel pale. I wear them more when I have some color to me.
I purchased the Loft skinny crop and they bag A LOT .. I didn’t size down, maybe that would help.
Have a great day!
You can’t get more perfect than an outfit of well-blended neutrals. As much as i love pink. 💖
I love the slip on vans that you had in the email this morning. Even though they are sueded, you think you will use them all summer?
Yes, definitely! I can’t wait for them to get here. They should arrive today.
Thanks! I just ordered them…can’t wait to see how you style them.
Outfit looks great! You mentioned adding a hole to your shoe strap. Years ago, my husband bought a hole punch for leather. Best purchase ever! We have used it so many times over the years. It has an adjustable wheel for variable sized hole selection. We’ve used it on shoes, belts, purse straps, etc. It works just like a paper punch. Very inexpensive, too.
I love cream and white together…..one of my favorite combinations for some reason.
I’d love help finding some cute wedges like those but with a lower heel. At 5’9” I cant wear more than about a 2 1/2 inch heel. Let me know if you know of any that are cute (sometimes low heel wedges look a little frumpy)
Love the casual outfit,
Especially the sandals on you.
I just bought a dressy sandal wedge and
Was wondering if it was too high for me…
After seeing these on you …I’m convinced to keep
them!
I love this outfit on you! Great mix of neutrals and those jeans look amazing on you. I have the Loft ones but haven’t worn them long enough to say how the fit is over the course of a day.
We got just under a foot of snow yesterday and are expecting another 4-8” on Monday. I will just stare longingly at my spring clothes for awhile longer!
Really nice outfit Jo-Lynne! At some point, I want to go to Target and try on the new brand of jeans they are now selling. I am waiting on two pair of spring/summer shoes to arrive from DSW, and I’m praying that both fit and give the support I need. I’m glad the snow in your area wasn’t as bad.
