Greetings, friends! It’s a beautiful morning here in Maine. Yesterday was cloudy and muggy most of the day, but a storm came through last night and left us with the perfect Maine summer weather — low humidity, mild temperatures, blue skies, and brilliant sunshine.
I packed this early fall outfit and brought it with me so I could photograph it with our gorgeous lake in the background. (You can tell how humid it was yesterday by the condition of my hair in these pictures!)
Every piece I’m wearing is from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and all but the handbag are under $100.
The #NSale is still going strong, although many of the popular items are selling out and sizes are getting depleted. I expect most sold-out styles to be restocked this weekend when the Sale goes live to the public, so keep an eye on your favorites. There will only be limited quantities available, so definitely make a list of your must-haves, and shop early to be sure you get the sizes and colors you want.
This is a great outfit for early fall — you know, when the weather isn’t really feeling much like fall yet but you don’t want to be wearing sandals and linen tops anymore.
This Sleeveless Waffle Stitch Cowl Neck Sweater in Antique White was one of the first pieces I grabbed the night I went to Nordstrom to shop the Sale. I was immediately drawn to the chunky off-white knit, and I’ve always loved the juxtaposition of a sleeveless turtleneck. I don’t wear turtlenecks very often because they don’t flatter me, however, I LOVE a cowl neck sweater. It’s a borderline obsession. They’re warm, but they still give the neck some room to breathe, and they downplay a larger chest.
The design of this sweater is on point. The cowl drapes perfectly, the side slits are flattering, and it’s a great length for most figure types. I accessorized with these Crystal Marquise Drop Earrings, also from the Sale and just $17.90!
Don’t let the sleeveless style dissuade you from ordering this sweater. If it gets chilly, you can always wear it over a long-sleeve tee or throw on a cute jacket. I am waiting to see if this BP. Anorak is restocked in the olive green because I think it would be perfect with this outfit. I wish I’d ordered it when I’d had the chance. For $44, it’s a steal. It will be the first thing I order Friday morning! By the way, the sweater is on sale for $45.
The Abril Shoulder Bag is another popular item from the sale. I also got it in the leopard. It’s a great size for a going-out bag. I like that it’s large enough to hold your wallet and other essentials, but the shape and combination of textures is super chic.
The jeans I’m wearing are the Paige Verdugo. These retail for $178, and they are on sale for $99. That’s about as good as it gets!!! They are a nice dark wash that is flattering on everyone.
I went up a size in these. I am not sure if it’s because I’ve gained a few pounds (ooops!) or if they’re slightly smaller than my pink and mint ones — but those have always been comfortable. My best advice is to order your regular size and a size up in case they sell out. Right now they are stocked in all sizes.
Finally, let’s discuss these booties. These are the BP. Tandem Bootie, and they are on sale for $79. (They will be $119 after the sale, which is still a great price for suede booties, but I’d rather buy them on sale, wouldn’t you???) These are very comfortable, and I love the buckle detail. It says it has a 3 1/2 inch heel, but I’d have guessed 3. They don’t feel high to me at all.
They seem to run a tad small, although I am wearing my usual size 8.5. I couldn’t wear a thick sock with them, but I think my thin bamboo socks will be fine. I just wore them barefoot for this photo shoot, and honestly, I will probably do that this fall until it gets cold, but I’m lazy like that!
I also ordered the Vince Camuto Feina Bootie, which I love as much or more than the BP. Tandem. They are regularly $158 and marked down to $99, so both pairs of boots are under $100. I tried both on with this outfit and went with the BP. — mainly because the khaki color is slightly darker and looked better with the handbag. I actually think the Feina bootie is more versatile. It will be cute with skirts and even shorts, if you like that look. It also has a slightly lower heel at 3 1/4 inches.
Styling this outfit is getting me excited for fall! I’m not rushing summer, don’t get me wrong, but it’s nice to know I have some great fall basics already in my closet because cooler weather will be here before we know it!

Thanks to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!
Great outfit and scenery! Do you think they will restock your bag in that color? I can only find it in black and leopard/black.
I do expect they will restock. Definitely keep an eye out early Fri a.m.
Ok, I will, thanks 🙂
Absolutely love this! I hemmed and hawed over the price of that top too long, so when I went to order it, it was sold out. I’m currently stalking to check for restocks!
I expect them to restock on Fri a.m. 🙂 Good luck! It’s a keeper. 🙂
This top was my favorite thing you wore in your sneak preview post! Sooooo flattering and soft around the face.
Gonna have to put that on my look-out list!
Stunning as usual.
I like the jeans most and the look how you cropped the bottom ends to make the look more chic.
I own a pair of those boots and I totally agree with you, that are comfortable, and even I go sockless in them. They keep your feet quite warm.
Keep it up.
I would like to see more looks where you pair with sneaks and trainers. You look great in the previous looks when you paired shorts and sneaks.

I should do more looks with sneakers. The adidas superstars are on the #NSale too!
I love a sleeveless sweater!

Just wanted you to know that I haven’t gotten the regular e-mail from you today with the link to this post. I just typed in your name to go to it. Now after I post this, it will probably come, but I thought I should let you know!
Love this outfit! Can’t wait until those jeans arrive, crossing my fingers they fit. And we have similar tastes as I ordered those same tandem booties and the Feina ones in black and tan! ???? So many cute options.
Let me know how they all work out and what you decide to keep!
Do u mind telling me what size u wear in the Pleione High/Low V-Neck Mixed Media Top? Medium? I am 5’7″ 145 pounds. Love your blog!
Hey Cindy. I didn’t try it on, but I would probably order a medium. It looks narrow.
I’m also stalking that sweater! What size did you get? You look so cute.
It’s a medium. 🙂
Hi Jo-Lynne,
Just a quick question. I’ve purchased a couple great pairs of pants from the Nordstrom sale, and they are a little bit long. I got a pair of black jeans and burgundy colored jeans. Do you typically simply roll them up or do you get them altered? Thanks for your perspective.
Good question! You can roll them, it’s totally acceptable. However, if you plan to have them for a few years, I’d have them tailored to fit. I have had lots of jeans tailored over the years, and I’m always glad I did.
I enjoy receiving your daily posts and loved the recents ones with the Nordstrom anniversary sale. I ordered the BP Tandem booties & I absolutely love them. Hawaii doesn’t get too cold but I will pair them with jeans for casual dinners out. Thanks for providing all of the styling tips and I really enjoy the photographs. I know I must be doing something right when my teen daughter wants to “borrow” my clothes & shoes!
LOL! Love it!!! 🙂
