Spring Trend to Try: Ecru Jeans

Hi there! Happy First Day of Spring! The sun is out, I can hear birds chattering outside my office window, and it’s supposed to warm up today! I am very happy about that.

I still have some outfit pictures from Miami that I haven’t shared yet, and the jeans are part of the Saks Friends & Family Sale, where you can save 25% off new arrivals! I decided this was the perfect time to talk about styling one of the big denim trends for spring – ECRU!

RAILS Ellis button-up (25% off Cobalt) (S) (similar for less) // Paige Cindy in Tonal Ecru (25% off) (29) // Tory Burch T Monogram Espadrille Slide (8) // Top Handle Straw Clutch (Tan1) // Madewell earrings & similar necklace (25% off for Insiders) // Ray-Ban Wayfairer (42% off)

I love how ecru is a little softer than white, but it’s harder to style than I anticipated. I’m always drawn to the tone-on-tone neutral looks I’ve seen with ecru and other shades of white, but I haven’t successfully styled one yet. I usually end up wearing my ecru jeans with shades of blue.

This is the RAILS Ellis Gauze Button-Up Shirt I’ve featured a few times this spring. Mine is the Indigo, but Saks has a pretty Cobalt, as well as a lot of other great colors for 25% off in their F&F sale.

It’s definitely a splurge, but the material is luxuriously soft and thick, and it has such a nice drape. If you want a similar for less option, J.Crew Factory has one that’s 25% off with SHOP25.

I ordered the Paige Cindy in Tonal Ecru the second I saw them, and I like the fit and feel quite a lot, but they are on the thinner side.

I always wear the Wacoal Body Base Smoothing Shorts in the Sand under my white and light-colored denim, so I don’t feel like these jeans show all the lumps and bumps, but you can see the front pockets. That doesn’t bother me, but I thought I should mention it.

These jeans have a 10.5″ rise and a 28″ inseam, which is the perfect ankle length on my 5’5″ frame, and the raw hem makes them easy to cut if you want them a little shorter.

If you want a similar pair of ecru straight ankle jeans for less, check out the Madewell Perfect Vintage Straight in Canvas Wash or the Tile White, and they also have a Mid-Rise Version. They are 25% off today!

My Tory Burch espadrille slides keep this look casual and care-free. I love how the brown tones warm up the ecru and navy, and this top handle straw clutch coordinates perfectly. Best of all, it’s under $50 at Amazon! I have the Tan1.

I accessorized with chunky gold hoop earrings and a layer necklace (similar here). The delicate jewelry that has been trending for the past few seasons is giving way to chunkier styles, but I don’t usually wear bold statement jewelry, so I feel like this set is a nice way to talk that line.

I also styled these jeans with my navy stripe sweater from LOFT. I love a chunky cotton sweater for spring, and this one is perfect for this time of year, when it’s still too cold for short sleeves, but I’m ready to ditch my wool and cashmere.

LOFT Textured Cotton Sweater ($29 + up to 50% off) (S) // Paige Cindy in Tonal Ecru (25% off) (29) // Tory Burch Miller Sandals (8) // Ray-Ban Wayfairer (42% off) // YSL camera bag (similar for less)

The white in this sweater is more of a creamy white, so it works perfectly with these ecru jeans, and the slight balloon sleeve adds a nice modern touch.

It runs true to size, and it’s on sale for $29.99, plus you can get an additional 50% off when you order 3+ LOFT items.

Here’s a different angle of this outfit. You can see how well the jeans fit, and how easily the sweater pairs with them. Just throw it on, and go!

This time I wore my Tory Burch Miller Sandals in Makeup, but I’m not sure why I didn’t do loafers (the Soft Beige Leather would be perfect) or my Nordstrom brand ballet flats in Tan. They would be more appropriate for early spring weather and also balance out the chunky sweater.

If you prefer a bootcut style, I grabbed the MOTHER Weekender in Fog when it was on sale at Bloomies a while back, and they’re included in the Saks sale as well!

The MOTHER Weekender is my favorite bootcut style right now; I also have it in a blue denim wash, and I’m eyeing up the white pair, now that it’s on sale at Saks.

RAILS Ellis button-up (25% off Cobalt) (S) // MOTHER The Weekender in Fog (29) // Kork-Ease Darby Clogs (also at Zappos) (8) // old Tory Burch shoulder bag // YSL sunnies (similar for less) // Madewell necklace (25% off) // Victoria Emerson earrings, bracelet & ring c/o (60% off with 60Jo-Lynne)

They have a 10″ rise and a 31″ inseam, and like the PAIGE Cindy, the raw hem makes them easy to cut if you need to.

The fit and feel is fantastic, as with all MOTHER denim – definitely splurgy for a more trendy color, but I think the cost per wear will work itself out over time. I’m struggling to find similar for less options for these, so if you know of any, let me know!

I also happened to style these ecru jeans with the RAILS Ellis button-up… I told you I like ecru denim with blue tops! I think I forgot I styled this shirt with my other ecru jeans in Miami. I really love how it contrasts against the darker beige jeans.

I wore the same Madewell necklace, and this time I went with a pair of mixed metal earrings and gold stretch bracelet set from Victoria Emerson. My channel set gold & crystal ring is from her shop as well, and you can get 60% off all full price Victoria Emerson jewelry with code 60Jo-Lynne!

This time I wore my Kork-Ease clogs. They’re the perfect height with these 31″ jeans, and they’re also weather appropriate for our chilly Pennsylvania spring!

Unfortunately, my bag is old, but I love this pairing, and the way the gold hardware ties into my jewelry.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Are you a fan of ecru denim for spring?

  1. Hi JoLynne—may I ask what size you have in the smoothing shorts you wear under your light color pants/jeans?

  2. I have been wearing my ecru jeans this winter. So I was glad to see this post. I think it will be harder to style for spring. I have a floral blouse with ecru background. I like that combination. Also bright color t shirts and the always go to-black top.

  3. I love the Ecru jeans – I am ordering them! Where is your belt from that you’re wearing with the Paige jeans? I think the ecru jeans and blue button shirt are classic. You could have those for many years to come. Gorgeous!

  4. I’d love to see more options for styling the ecru jeans. I just bought a pair. I could do with less photos of the same outfit to get more outfits. 🙂

  5. Hi JoLynne. Love the outfit you’ve posted today! I too would like to know where your belt is from? I think it really brings the outfit together. I agree, pairing Ecru will darker blues is gorgeous!

  6. I have a pair of cropped Mother Dazzlers from last year that are called Cream Puff I think. They’re off white and I love them. I checked out the Saks Fifth Avenue sale but unfortunately the Weekender Fairest of Them All jeans are sold out in 27. I bought them at Nordstrom and tried to get a price adjustment through the chat feature but they wouldn’t do it because they said the Saks jeans are sold out. I said of course they are, they’re popular jeans and they’re on sale but they wouldn’t budge. Not sure what the point of a price adjustment is if they won’t discount when other retailers do. Mother jeans are just so good, I’m obsessed with them, unfortunately for my wallet, lol.

  7. I have a pair of ecru jeans from Kut from the Kluth from last year that I wore so much and they feel so good. Nevertheless, I wanted to check out the Mother Weekender in Ecru also, since it’s a flare and mine are straight. Alas, it’s sold out in my size already. That’s okay, because I probably didn’t need another pair of ecru jeans. I love the navy shirt with them.

  8. I just purchased a pair of ecru denim jeans and love the look you styled today. I have the Loft navy striped sweater, so will be wearing that with my pair. Would you do another post with other colored tops with ecru pants?

  9. Perfect timing, I have been wanting a pair of ecru jeans but needed a mid rise and Jo-Lynne to the rescue! Ordering the pair from Madewell.

Appreciate all the work you put into each post, thank you!

  10. What size of the Brielle midi dress from Evereve did you decide on? In a previous post you were waiting on the medium to come in as you said the small was a bit snug. I saw a vacation pic of the dress on shopstyle but not the size.

  11. You did a great job of styling the ecru but I know I’d have trouble doing it. You just look great in all the jean styles.

  12. Hi JoLynne,
FYI they have those Vince mules with the sculptural heel in a few colors at a great price over at TJMaxx.com. I can’t wear mules because they always slip off when I walk, but thought some of your readers might be interested!
Thanks for providing real life options for those of us who want to be current, but can’t pull off every new trendy look!

  13. I was thinking about your travel troubles, and feeling like you are having a harder time recuperating. I, too, struggle with that after traveling. (And sometimes WHILE traveling…) I’m not good at it, but often drinking lots of water and trying to stick to an eating and sleeping schedule that is close to my home routine helps. But I am a terrible traveler for this reason. I love the ecru jeans and the ways you styled them! I was just telling my husband how much I appreciate all the hard work you put into this blog! 😍
